Have you ever felt like your emotions were running the show? Maybe fear, anxiety, frustration, or even sadness seemed louder than your faith? Well, you’re not alone, and today we’re going to explore what the Bible says about navigating life with faith rather than being led by our feelings. So grab your Bible, your coffee, and let’s dive in!"
Segment 1: Understanding the Nature of Emotions
Host: "God created emotions, and they are a gift. They help us connect with others, experience joy, and even recognize when something isn’t right. But emotions were never meant to be our master. In Jeremiah 17:9, it says, ‘The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand it?’ Our emotions are ever-changing, but God is constant."
"Think about a time when your emotions led you to make a decision you later regretted. Maybe in a moment of anger, you spoke words that hurt someone. Or in fear, you avoided an opportunity God was calling you to. If we let our feelings dictate our choices, we risk moving outside of God’s will. But when we choose faith over feelings, we choose to trust that God’s truth is greater than our shifting emotions."
Segment 2: Biblical Examples of Choosing Faith Over Feelings
Host: "One of the most powerful examples of faith over feelings in the Bible is Jesus Himself. In the Garden of Gethsemane, as He faced the cross, Jesus felt deep anguish. Luke 22:44 tells us, ‘And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.’ Jesus experienced the full weight of human emotion, yet He surrendered to God’s will, saying, ‘Not my will, but Yours be done’ (Luke 22:42). He didn’t let feelings of fear or sorrow keep Him from fulfilling God’s plan."
"Another example is David. Throughout the Psalms, we see him wrestle with emotions—fear, sadness, loneliness—but he always returned to faith. In Psalm 56:3, he writes, ‘When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.’ David acknowledged his emotions but didn’t let them define his trust in God."
Segment 3: The Power of Faith Over Feelings in Our Daily Lives
Host: "We all have moments when emotions feel overwhelming. Maybe you’re in a season of waiting, and doubt is creeping in. Maybe life has thrown an unexpected challenge your way, and fear is screaming louder than faith. What do you do? You stand on God’s promises. You declare His truth over your feelings."
"Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.’ If we make decisions based on emotions, we’re leaning on our own understanding, which is limited. But when we trust in the Lord, we allow Him to guide us in truth, even when our emotions tell us otherwise."
Segment 4: Practical Steps to Live by Faith, Not Feelings
Host: "So, how do we train ourselves to live by faith rather than feelings? Let’s talk about some practical steps."
1. Anchor Yourself in God’s Word
"Feelings fluctuate, but God’s Word never changes. When emotions try to take control, go back to Scripture. Write down verses that remind you of God’s faithfulness. Romans 8:28 says, ‘And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.’ Meditate on these truths daily."
2. Pray Through Your Emotions
"Instead of reacting to emotions, bring them to God. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ Prayer shifts our focus from our feelings to God’s truth."
3. Surround Yourself with Godly Community
"When you’re struggling, don’t isolate yourself. Proverbs 27:17 says, ‘Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.’ Find people who will remind you of God’s truth when your feelings try to lead you astray."
4. Remember: ‘If it Doesn’t Matter in Five Years, It Doesn’t Matter Now’
"A great way to keep emotions in check is by asking yourself, ‘Will this matter in five years?’ Many times, the things that feel overwhelming in the moment won’t even be a thought in the future. But our faith—our trust in God—that matters eternally. When we choose faith over feelings, we set our eyes on things above rather than being caught up in temporary emotions."
Segment 5: Encouragement to Keep Trusting God
Host: "I want to leave you with this encouragement: God sees you. He knows what you’re feeling, but He is calling you to trust Him anyway. Isaiah 41:10 says, ‘Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’ That promise is for you. No matter what emotions rise up, no matter what uncertainties lie ahead, God is holding you."
"So today, let’s make a commitment together. Let’s choose faith over feelings. Let’s trust in God’s Word, seek Him in prayer, lean on godly community, and keep an eternal perspective. Because in the end, our feelings will fade, but our faith in God will stand firm."
