Welcome to today’s episode, where we’re tackling a topic that so many parents struggle with—raising children with biblical values in a digital age.
Technology has changed the way we parent. Our kids are growing up in a world where screens are everywhere—TVs, tablets, phones, video games, social media. And while technology itself isn’t bad, the way we use it can either draw us closer to God or pull us further away.
As parents, our job isn’t just to protect our kids from harmful influences, but to equip them with the wisdom and discernment to navigate this world in a way that honors God.
So today, we’re going to talk about how to raise children with biblical values in a tech-driven world, how to set boundaries with digital distractions, and how to make sure that faith is the foundation of their lives.
1. Why Biblical Parenting Looks Different in a Digital Age
The world today does not reflect God’s values. Our kids are constantly being exposed to messages that contradict faith, purity, kindness, and biblical truth.
Social media, YouTube, and even kids’ shows are filled with:
• Messages that redefine morality.
• A culture that prioritizes self over God.
• Entertainment that numbs critical thinking.
Romans 12:2 reminds us:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
As parents, we are called to raise our children in God’s ways—not the world’s ways. This means intentionality in what we allow into their hearts and minds.
2. Setting Healthy Digital Boundaries for Your Family
Technology can be a great tool, but it can also become a distraction from what truly matters.
One thing we’ve been intentional about in our home is not letting TV become part of our daily life. Instead, we treat it as a luxury—a special time, like a family movie night on Fridays.
Why?
Because when TV becomes the default activity, it robs us of deeper thinking, creativity, and meaningful conversations.
Psalm 101:3 says:
“I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.”
We may not be able to shield our children from everything, but we can set healthy boundaries to protect their hearts and minds.
Practical Ways to Create Healthy Screen Habits:
1. Limit TV and screen time – Choose when and how screens are used in your home. (For example, no screens during meals, family time, or right before bed.)
2. Be intentional with content – Choose shows, movies, and apps that align with biblical values.
3. Model healthy screen use – Our kids are watching what we do. If we are always on our phones, they will be too.
4. Encourage critical thinking – Instead of just consuming content, teach your kids to question what they watch. Does this align with what God says?
3. Teaching Kids to Be Spiritually Discerning in a Digital World
One of the best things we can do as parents is teach our children to filter everything through a biblical lens.
The world will always try to shape their values. But if they learn to test everything against God’s truth, they will be able to stand firm in their faith.
1 John 4:1 says:
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
How to Teach Kids Spiritual Discernment:
• Talk about what they see and hear – Ask them, “What do you think about this? Does it align with God’s truth?”
• Equip them with Scripture – When they know God’s Word, they will recognize when something doesn’t line up.
• Teach them to pray for wisdom – Encourage them to ask God for discernment in everything they consume.
The goal is not just to shield them from everything but to prepare them to stand strong in their faith when they encounter worldly messages.
4. Prioritizing Faith Over Entertainment
Technology and entertainment should never take priority over time with God.
It’s easy to let TV, video games, and social media consume our time, but when we do, it slowly pulls us away from what matters most.
Matthew 6:33 says:
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
How to Keep Faith First in Your Home:
1. Create daily moments of connection with God – Whether it’s prayer before school, a family devotion, or listening to worship music, faith should be woven into everyday life.
2. Limit distractions during faith-based activities – No phones during family Bible study or prayer time. Make it a sacred moment.
3. Encourage a love for God’s Word – Make reading the Bible an exciting and normal part of life, not just something they have to do.
5. Leading By Example: What Our Kids See in Us
One of the most powerful ways to raise godly children is to model a life that reflects Christ.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says:
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Our kids will learn more from watching us than from anything we say. If we want them to:
• Value time with God → They need to see us praying and reading the Bible.
• Use technology wisely → They need to see us setting boundaries for ourselves.
• Prioritize faith over entertainment → They need to see that we do the same.
Parenting in a digital world isn’t just about telling our kids what’s right—it’s about living it out so they naturally follow.
Final Encouragement: Raising Kids Who Stand Strong
The world will try to shape our children. But when we build a foundation of faith, they will be able to stand strong no matter what comes their way.
We don’t have to be perfect parents. But when we commit to raising our kids with biblical values, prioritizing faith over distractions, and teaching them discernment, we are giving them a foundation that will last a lifetime.
So today, ask yourself:
• What small changes can I make to set healthier digital boundaries in my home?
• How can I model a stronger faith for my children?
• Am I seeking God first in the way I parent?
Because when we put God first in our parenting, everything else falls into place.
I hope today’s episode encouraged you to be intentional in raising your kids with biblical values in a digital world. If this message spoke to you, share it with a friend who might need the same encouragement.
Until next time, keep leading, keep praying, and keep pointing your children to Jesus—because that’s the greatest gift you can give them.
