Welcome to today’s episode, where we’re diving into a question that so many of us wrestle with—What is my purpose? What does God want for my life?
If you’ve ever felt like you’re just going through the motions—working a job that doesn’t excite you, wondering if you’re really where God wants you to be—you’re not alone. We all want to know that what we’re doing matters.
But here’s the good news: God has a plan for you. Your life isn’t random. Your gifts, passions, and experiences were all designed by Him for a purpose.
So today, we’re going to talk about:
• How to discover God’s calling for your life.
• How to align your career and purpose with faith.
• How to trust God’s timing, even when you feel uncertain.
Because when you step into the calling God has for you, you experience joy, fulfillment, and a deeper sense of meaning than you ever thought possible.
1. Does Everyone Have a Calling? (Yes, You Do!)
Some people think that only pastors, missionaries, or ministry leaders have a calling. But that’s not true.
Ephesians 2:10 says:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
This means that before you were even born, God had a purpose for you. Your calling isn’t just about a job title—it’s about how you use your gifts and passions to glorify God in whatever you do.
2. How to Discover God’s Calling for Your Life
1. Look at the Gifts & Talents God Has Given You
God doesn’t call us to something without equipping us. The gifts, talents, and skills you have are not accidents. They are clues to what He created you to do.
Romans 12:6 says:
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”
Ask yourself:
• What am I naturally good at?
• What brings me joy when I do it?
• What do people often ask for my help with?
Practical Step:
• Make a list of your strengths and passions and pray over them. Ask God to show you how He wants to use them.
2. Pay Attention to What Breaks Your Heart
Sometimes, our calling is connected to the problems in the world that deeply move us.
Nehemiah 1:4 says:
“When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.”
Nehemiah felt a deep burden for Jerusalem, and that burden led him to his calling—to rebuild the city’s walls.
Ask yourself:
• What problems in the world stir something inside me?
• Where do I feel a deep desire to make a difference?
Practical Step:
• Journal about what burdens your heart and ask God how He wants you to respond.
3. Seek God’s Guidance in Prayer
We can search for answers everywhere, but true clarity comes from seeking God.
James 1:5 says:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Sometimes, we’re so busy trying to figure things out on our own that we forget to ask the One who created us.
Practical Step:
• Spend time praying specifically about your purpose. Ask God to open doors and close the wrong ones.
4. Take a Step of Faith (Even If You Don’t Have It All Figured Out)
A lot of people stay stuck because they’re waiting for a perfect, clear answer. But God often reveals our purpose one step at a time.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
God’s direction often comes as we step out in faith. You may not have all the answers, but when you move forward with obedience, God will guide you.
Practical Step:
• Take a small step toward something that aligns with your gifts and passions. Try something new and see where God leads you.
3. Aligning Your Career & Purpose With Faith
Not everyone is called to full-time ministry. But every job—when done with excellence and a heart for God—can be a ministry.
Colossians 3:23 says:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
No matter what you do—whether you’re in business, healthcare, education, or any other field—you can:
• Honor God through your work ethic.
• Use your influence to show Christ’s love.
• Treat people with integrity and kindness.
Practical Step:
• Ask God, “How can I use my job to glorify You?” Whether it’s encouraging coworkers, leading with honesty, or serving others, your work has purpose.
4. What to Do When You Feel Stuck or Unsure
Maybe you’re in a job that doesn’t feel fulfilling. Maybe you feel stuck, lost, or unsure of what’s next. Here’s what you need to remember:
1. Your Current Season Has Purpose
Even if you’re not where you want to be, God is using this season to prepare you.
Galatians 6:9 says:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Trust that God is working behind the scenes.
2. Be Willing to Surrender Your Own Plans
Sometimes, we hold onto our own idea of success so tightly that we miss what God is leading us into.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.”
True fulfillment comes when we surrender our own agenda and trust God’s plan.
Practical Step:
• Ask God, “Am I holding onto something You’re asking me to release?” Be willing to follow where He leads.
5. Trusting God’s Timing
Finding your calling doesn’t always happen overnight. God’s timing is perfect.
Psalm 37:23 says:
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.”
If you’re feeling impatient, remember:
• Moses waited 40 years before leading Israel.
• Joseph endured years of hardship before stepping into his purpose.
• David was anointed king but waited years before he took the throne.
Waiting is not wasted time—God is preparing you.
Final Encouragement: God Has a Plan for You
You are not an accident. Your gifts, passions, and experiences were designed by God for a reason.
If you’ve been searching for your calling, start by:
1. Praying and asking God for guidance.
2. Recognizing your gifts and passions.
3. Taking small steps of faith.
4. Trusting that even in the waiting, God is working.
Because when you step into the calling God has for you, you will find purpose, joy, and a deeper connection with Him.
I hope today’s episode encouraged you to seek God’s plan for your life. If this message spoke to you, share it with someone who might need the same encouragement.
Until next time, keep seeking, keep trusting, and remember—God has a purpose for your life that is greater than anything you could imagine.
