A Mighty Eighth Air Force book is on the table, but we’re not doing a “click and win” giveaway. We want something that makes the show better for everyone: your best Shop Talk topic ideas and your sharpest questions for the Wheel of Accidental Wisdom.

Mike and Kentucky Dave start with a laid back Fourth of July catch up, from road weariness to the kind of heat that makes even a pool feel too warm. Then we get to the main point: a listener powered giveaway featuring The Mighty Eighth: A Glimpse Of The Men, Mission, And Machines Of The U.S. Eighth Air Force 1942 To 1945, a commemorative coffee table book filled with art, maps, and historical detail. It’s signed and tied to Mark Copeland from the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, which makes it a special piece for anyone into WWII aviation, military history, or building Eighth Air Force aircraft models.

We also explain exactly how to enter and why we’re asking. Shop Talk is most fun when it goes beyond our own bench habits and gets into what you’re working through right now: the techniques you’re curious about, the frustrations you want solved, and the hobby debates you want aired out. Send your suggestions by email to plasticmodelmojo@gmail.com or via Facebook DM. We’re running entries through July, shutting it down just before midnight on August 1, and drawing a winner in early August, possibly around the National Convention.

If you want more modeling community conversations like this, subscribe, share the show with a friend at the bench, and leave a quick review. Then send us one topic or one question to enter, what do you want us to tackle next?

Fourth Of July Catch Up

Mike

right, Kentucky Dave. How you doing? I'm good. How was your fourth? My fourth was excellent.

Kentucky Dave

How was your vacation?

Mike

Oh, vacation was good. We talked about that in the feature episode or the 12-minute model sphere, but my fourth was good too. Good. Good.

Kentucky Dave

I was uh I was disappointed you you and you and the kids couldn't get down. I had plenty of food. I was gonna once again try and actually fill them up, but that's all right. We had plenty of people.

Mike

After driving all over South Carolina for uh a good week, uh I was just not too enthused to jump in a car.

Kentucky Dave

I hear you. I don't I don't blame you or the lovely wife. We managed. It was a little hot. Yes, it was.

Pool Heat And Summer Survival

Kentucky Dave

If you're sitting by a pool or sitting in a pool, it's not bad.

Mike

You just need to turn the heater off, man.

Kentucky Dave

Yeah. Well, do you know what? My my wife actually, for the first time in history, said, David, the pool's too warm, turn the heater off. I've never done that before.

Mike

I would probably put different valves on the in and out and have a trickle in and a trickle out and just uh let the city water cool that sucker down.

Kentucky Dave

Yeah.

Mike

But I'm not made of money.

Kentucky Dave

Yeah, amen. Neither am I.

Mike

Well,

Signed Mighty Eighth Book Giveaway

Mike

Dave, it's time to give something away, man.

Kentucky Dave

Speaking, man, you say you're not made of money, but look at this. You're giving something away. Well, what are you giving away?

Mike

This is not me giving it away. All right. It is our guest from our last feature episode, Mark Copeland, the director of uh educational travel for the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. We want to give away a book.

Kentucky Dave

All right.

Mike

Well, Dave, this book is titled The Mighty Eighth: A Glimpse of the Men, Mission, and Machines of the U.S. Eighth Air Force, 1942 to 1945, commemorative collection from Military Gallery. Okay. Kind of a coffee table book about the Eighth Air Force. It's full of paintings and and maps and stuff like that. But there are some text involved with this in Military Gallery impressed on Mr. Copeland to uh provide that information for them to finish out this book. So he's got some direct hand in this book, and the winner of our giveaway is gonna get a a Mark Copeland signed edition of the Mighty Eighth a glimpse of the men, missions, and machines of the U.S. Eighth Air Force 1942 to 1945. So it's kind of cool. Yes, it is.

Kentucky Dave

Now, how would somebody win something like this?

How To Enter With Topic Ideas

Mike

Well, we're doing something a little different this time. We're not gonna lean on the current contributors and past contributors. We can give everybody a fair shake at this one. Because we need something, Dave. Okay, what do we need? We need topics for our shop talk episodes that are beyond the scope of our own uh rationale and thinking. Not that that's bad, but a little help never hurts. That's true. And we're trying to uh reconstitute the wheel of accidental wisdom, and right now we don't have a lot of questions banked for that. Well, sounds like we need the listeners to help. We do. So, folks, if you're interested in getting involved with this giveaway, you gotta do something. You gotta send us an email or a direct message via Facebook, and Dave, you gotta keep up on these. I will. Folks, send us uh topic suggestions for our shop talk episodes and or questions for the wheel of accidental wisdom. And everyone who does that will be entered into this drawing for the Mighty Eighth Air

July Deadline And Drawing Plans

Mike

Force book. And we're gonna run this through the entire month of July, so this will shut down just before midnight, August 1st, and then we'll have the drawing early August. We may even do it at the National Convention, Dave. You know, that would be cool. It would be cool. And we'll break out the prizonator and uh the prizonator and see who wins this thing. I love it.

Kentucky Dave

Well, that'd be great. And if they happen to be in attendance at the nationals, we could give it to them in person. That would be great.

Mike

We'll have to get Mark on the ball, but yeah, I think that might work out. So, folks, we've had a lot of topics, and you know, the shop talk stuff is not necessarily providing tips and techniques, though sometimes those come out of it, but it's all that tends to revolve around our experiences, Dave, and our in our time in the hobby. So folks have been enjoying them. So we don't provide an absolute answer to everything every time, but uh certainly some information for folks to chew on. And it's uh those are a lot of fun. And the wheel of accidental wisdom will get that thing populated again and we'll pick us uh a good guest to have on in the third chair and uh take care of that maybe in the fall.

Kentucky Dave

Yep, that would be great.

Mike

Well,

Final Reminder And Sign Off

Mike

man, the day after the fourth was busy for me. I had to cut the grass, I had to do a whole bunch of stuff. I'm kind of tired.

Kentucky Dave

Yeah, you and me both. I'm wiped out, and we both have to be at work bright and early Monday morning.

Mike

So uh that's right. So, folks, until the next feature episode, send us an email with shop talk or and or questions for the wheel of accidental wisdom. You can send those to plasticmodelmojo gmail.com or through the Facebook direct messaging system and get entered to win this book. It's a nice little book. So look forward to it, man. Look forward to some some stuff coming in that we can use to get some episodes out, man.

Kentucky Dave

Yep. I'm looking forward to it.

Mike

All right, man. Well, you better get to bed early for Monday morning, man.

Kentucky Dave

Yep. I am look I am looking forward to to a good night's sleep.
