SPEAKER_04Uh man, so I'm from Jax originally. Oh, you really from Jax. Just the beaches. Oh, cool. Yeah, that's where my grandma lives. And uh so it's pretty tight. Were you raised by your grandma? Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, same here, same here. Yeah, so you know how it is. Yep. But um, so I moved to Callahan though, and when I was in like eighth grade. Hell yeah. You know Callahan? Yeah. Atlas sticks a little bit. Yeah, bro. Sometimes I tell people and they're like, what is that? I'm like, oh no, yeah. We we get around.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So I like grew up there. A lot of dirt roads and meth users.
SPEAKER_06Oh, bro, everywhere. Yeah, yeah. Freaking gnarly out there. So is that where you got into skateboarding out there? Yeah, yeah. How is that, man? Because I don't really see like much of a skate scene out there.
SPEAKER_04Bro, I was like the only skating kid. Yeah. I was skating around town trying to find spots and stuff. Yeah, I was gnarly out there.
SPEAKER_03They had little weird spots. Yeah, they had little weird spots. You can like make into them because like when I've been out there, I would like I'd I would like look, you know, like skater eye type shit. Yeah. And like I would look and then I would see something, I'd be like, that's kind of interesting, but like never got to touch it.
SPEAKER_04You really had to make up your own shit out there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you definitely did. Yeah, so for those that don't know, we'll paint a little picture. Callahan is kind of a stone's throw from Jacksonville, maybe a half hour or so, um, kind of to the northwest. And uh, yeah, it's just like a small, typical Florida town. Yeah, it's like very country and southern.
SPEAKER_03Dude, it's it's very, it's very southern roots. It's Donald Trump country.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it is, bro.
SPEAKER_03There's a lot of trader, uh, a lot of trailers and a lot of acres.

SPEAKER_06Okay, so what was your uh your first board and about what age? I mean, so you said you moved out there eighth grade, so about the same time, kind of got it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's funny, bro, because I used to be like uh playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and shit when I was younger. Oh, I was like not into skating at all. But um, my best friend's dad, uh Adam Ziggler. I don't know if you know Adam. I don't know if you guys ever heard of Adam. Adam Ziggler sounds really familiar. Like I know the name and I'm trying to put the face. I feel like I probably knew him. Yeah, so you probably met him for sure. And uh so his son. I know Adam. You know him probably. You definitely skated with him for sure. Okay.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, so he like taught me to skate and shit. So that's how I got into skating because I was like not into skating at all.
SPEAKER_03Because you're talking about Grant Ziggler as well, correct?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So it was pretty lit, bro. So I started skating when I was like eighth grade, but I just never skated tranny or street. It was just all street, I mean. It was like no tranny or nothing. Yeah, I mean because of Callahan.
SPEAKER_06I was about to say, you kind of area out there unless somebody was unless somebody was building a ramp, you know what I mean? Which I know talking with Timmy, you know, him being up in St. Mary's, that was one thing he talked about having a he's like, I really got into it because there was a backyard ramp. He was like, there was nowhere to skate where I l where I live. So I feel like it's probably one or the other. You either find that little little haven of a backyard ramp or you just gotta hit the streets.
SPEAKER_03Well, Tim Timmy has Timmy has a photo, like one of his first photos, it's him like going and it's like a curbed, like a gap curb, and there's a bush, like a big side, like a big size bush, that he like ollies over the curb over the bush, and then like in like over it, and that was like one of his first like actual like photos for a mag.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that's sick. That's tight. Yeah, it's tight.
SPEAKER_03Okay, but it was like create your own spot type of shit.
SPEAKER_06That's how it is. Yeah, so was your first board like a legit board or did you kind of go the path of all of us and have like a weird little nah?
SPEAKER_04It was a world industries. Oh, nice, yeah.

SPEAKER_04I don't know, I have no idea which one, but I know I used to only get them. Hell yeah. It was like all world industries. I don't know. I just love the graphics, you know. Oh, for sure. They were the best, man. For sure.

SPEAKER_06And then uh if you had to pick street, park, or both. Street for sure. Street's just more creative, man. It just really makes your mind start thinking. Yeah, man, and you know, once you kind of get into skating, you'll your your life will be changed forever because even if you don't skate very often or if you get injured, you will still go through towns and cities and you'll look at it with a spot and you'll be like, spot check. Yeah, spot check, spot check is like, damn.

Learning To Skate In Callahan
SPEAKER_06funny. So uh when did you when did you get into like wanting to start a brand? And how did you go about this? And how long have you been, you know, I mean, running with Upland? Because it's been a few years now that I've definitely been some years seeing you guys around. I mean, you know, Marcus Lismore was always repping y'all's shit. Oh, he was the first one. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04That was the day one right there. Hell yeah. Boy, dude.
SPEAKER_03That's that's my dog.
SPEAKER_04I would just give it he was always riding for me. But uh, I started in 2016. Cool. Yeah, so kind of a long time.
SPEAKER_02Oh shit, you're seven years deep.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's what's up. It's been a minute. Um, what was your first like getting into it? Were you just like running shirts? Did you like graphics? Straight up shirts. Um actually it's funny because I used to before Upland I had another clothing brand. So I've been doing clothes for a while, but I didn't take it serious until 2016. You know, I was like straight up fucking off, just having fun, printing shirts with the screen print. Oh yeah. Yeah, just stuff like that, you know.
SPEAKER_06So you do you you started off doing all your own merch?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, screen printing yourself.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. That's very cool.
SPEAKER_04I actually it was funny because at the time that was back in the day where pocket tees were hot. Yeah, you know, the little pockets. Yeah, the little pockets, man. So I would go to the fabric store, I would get fabric, I made a template, I would cut the fabric out, I would fold it into a pocket, and then I'll have a lady sew it on. So it'd be like gnarly, like it'd be like a black shirt with like oranges as the pocket or like flamingos or something, you know. Something tight, something to make it tight. Yeah, and then I got creative and I started printing the skyline of downtown on the pocket. So very cool. Yeah, so it was like pretty gnarly for the time.
SPEAKER_03I've seen Marcus Rock that shirt. Yeah. I asked him, I was like, yo, do you where the fuck did you get that? I know. It was like it was like Upland, and I was like, No, we're downland, dude.
SPEAKER_06That's what I was gonna ask is uh where did uh the name Upland, how'd you come about that?
SPEAKER_04Um well when I transitioned from the other brand was called Good Vibes, and um at the time that's when the phrase started getting popular. Okay, and people were like, yo, your stuff is in zoomies, and I'm like, nah, that ain't me, right? So I gotta change the name because it's getting too like popularized. Right, right. So I was just trying to find something that was different, and uh, there's no reason. It was just random. Upland, it works. I mean, yeah, when it clicks, it clicks. Yeah, it clicks. I was like, I was driving through North Carolina one time and I was like thinking of something, and I was just thinking of words and looking shit up, and then found that, and I was like, all right, that's cool.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's actually uh how I came up with Pauly on the pod. Was originally I had a homie when I first started kicking around the idea of doing it that was originally was an idea of being a co-host. Right. And I was like, we were always, you know, yeah, two peas. It was like the pod trying to do a play on word. I thought about a graphic of like both of our faces could be cartoon drawn in like a pea pod and it'd be like two peas on the pod, that kind of thing. Yeah, yeah. So that was my original idea, but he didn't want to get down with it. He had other things going on in his life, and I was like, So then it just evolved. Well, I'm P on the pod. It's Polly on the pod, that's it. Yeah, I really fuck with that though. It's sick, bro. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Yeah, I was fortunate.

And then trying to get video stuff, which hopefully fingers crossed, we will be able to get up on YouTube. That'd be fire with this one. But um, so when did you are you I mean, when did you move back from Callahan? Did you kind of finish high school, everything out there?
SPEAKER_04I graduated high school, and then I was like immediately like, I gotta get back. So then I moved back in with my grandparents. Thankfully, they let me live with them, you know, after high school, so I can kind of and then I was working at Pizza Hut at the time. Right on. So I was like, and I didn't have a car, I just had like a moped, so it was like thugging it out. Hell yeah. Were you delivering on the moped?
SPEAKER_06No, I was just about to say that's some fucking cheese shit right there. Just riding on a moped with like six boxes like strapped to the back. That should be funny. People do it. Dumb and dumber shit right there. I feel like you'd see Jim Carrey doing that or something.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but I was just slinging those pizzas. I was making them, so I was a cook. Oh, hell yeah. Yeah, so it's pretty wild.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I've uh I've done a little pizza making in my time. I come from an Italian-American family. I've worked. It's kind of fun, though. Hella function. It's pretty fun, yeah. Yeah. I worked at a mellow mushroom in Atlanta when I was living up in Atlanta. I worked at Mellow Mushroom too. Worked at a carabas all around here for a while. You made the pizzas at Mellow? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, super fun. My dad actually uh was a pizza maker too. It's actually how he and my mom met. What? So the original the owners of the Mellow Mushroom franchise, uh, their first restaurant was a place called the Mill. Is it from Jackson? No, from Atlanta. Okay, okay. And so uh the the Mill was a place in Atlanta that was kind of like a bar and pizza place, and they ran that. That's where my mom and dad met. My dad was like a uh I think a bartender and a pizza maker, and my mom was a hostess and a waitress.
SPEAKER_03Your dad was a goddamn thug. That's cool. That's it, yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's a story. So if you go to the beaches, mellow mushroom, you know, all them old photos up around it? Yeah. Those are like all my parents' friends from like the early 80s and stuff and like late 70s when they're like living in Atlanta when they first met. Yeah, so when they opened up the original, when they opened up that one, the you know owners came down and had their little guest list of people for so we got to go to that. It was kind of that's dope. Yeah, what? Yeah, it's like so every time oh the another thing, a lot of people don't know. So you know the mushrooms held in the peace sign, yeah, tossing the pizza? Yeah, the original logo, the mushroom had a J in his fingers tossing a pizza. Really? Yeah, when they decided to go like corporate and franchise it out, is when they lost the joint and they just kept it like, oh, it looks like a peace sign. That's funny. Yeah, that's like old ass like vintage uh menus and stuff with it.

Starting Upland And DIY Merch
SPEAKER_06Well, um, I know you uh you've been traveling a lot, man. Um I I see you up in New York and stuff. Like, yeah, is that all for kind of promoting the uh what's that like the brand?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, bro. New York is crazy. I've actually uh never been anywhere outside of like Florida pretty much until like last year. Sweet. Yeah, so besides like North Carolina and stuff, but nowhere like real like city. So I actually opened a store in New York.
SPEAKER_03You already hear first. North Carolina is not a real place.
SPEAKER_06Um cutting them. Cutting them. But uh Yeah, I've never been to New York City. I've I've spent time in New York State. It's nuts, bro. It's fucking crazy. It definitely looks like it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so opened a store there for a pop-up uh for a week long like store. Sweet. Yeah, drove everything up there, opened it up, promoted it. That's right as fuck, did my own thing. Fuck it. Did you sell out? Yeah, it was no I didn't sell out, but it was crazy.
SPEAKER_06Don't dude me. You know, that is for real skateboarder mentality right there, dude. Like, make it fucking happen.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's how I was like, bro, I gotta get out. Because I started noticing um a lot of traffic from New York, and I was like, damn, okay, people were you know fucking with it from there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like liking it and getting with it.
SPEAKER_04Because I'm not really honestly, man, I don't really make the uh style of Jacksonville.
SPEAKER_03No, you go and that's what like that's what's right about your clothing, is that like you don't like dignify it as just being like a Florida or a Jacksonville event.
SPEAKER_06A localized thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_03You definitely you're just it's you got windows open.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah. Your style definitely, like when I first started, you know, you first started coming on my radar and I started seeing all the threads people were rocking and everything and following you on the gram, is like, oh, this is actually something that could catch on big time, for real. You know what I mean? It's like not because a lot of times you have like these little pop-up people wanting to do their thing, and it kind of stays very localized. You might get a little traction locally, but and then I saw you up there for Ghost Skate Day in New York, and I was like, Oh, this dude is doing it. Yeah, like we gotta get him on the podcast.
SPEAKER_04Like, really out here, you know, getting it, getting after it out of Florida in Hawks, man.
SPEAKER_06How did you make that connection to like did you just look up like space for rent for a week in New York? Like, how did that come about?
SPEAKER_04So um the first time I went to New York was actually to meet up with a a buddy I met on social media. Cool. And I was like, yo, I'll come up there and meet you, and we can just chill and you can show me around, right? Because he has a clothing brand too. And he told me how he rented out a spot when I was there and he showed me the spot, and he was like, You should do it. I was like, That's a thing. All right, bet. So then I went home and started researching it, and I was like, Oh shit, you can really do that. Hell yeah, yeah. So it's really just about like fucking meeting people and they know something you don't know and networking and networking, bro. Straight up. Networking, yeah. So I was like, and he was like, bro, you're the only person I ever met that came to New York three times in the same month to like make shit happen. I was like, bro, I'm serious. I'm not playing with somebody. I'm hungry.
SPEAKER_03I'm hungry, I'm trying to make it, yeah. I know that's something I've always noticed about you, is you've always like you anything you've ever tried to do, you've always done. Yeah. And that's like a big difference between like these other people. Like, uh, I mean, like I've had cloth like back in the day, I had clothing sponsors and shit. Like uh I had I had a clothing sponsor uh called Zias, which was like a tattoo dude. But like granted, he would pay for me to like get into contests and all that shit. Uh huh. And but it it didn't fade into anything. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you just didn't have any drive to take it to that next level.
SPEAKER_03I mean, granted, he gave me a tattoo, but you know, there you go.
SPEAKER_04Perks. But uh No, I've definitely noticed that with a lot of people too. Um a lot of my dad used to say this, a lot of people talk about it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Not everybody is hard.
SPEAKER_04It's hard. I mean, because you really you're battling emotions. It's hard, it's scary, you're facing the unknown, it's financially scary, and uh, you know, it goes.
SPEAKER_03That's like Pauly and I like doing this podcast. It's like it's hard, granted, because of what I've been going through the last two and a half years with the hip.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_03But thank God it's finally done.
SPEAKER_06But like, you know, we've had battles to where it's like we're supposed to record for somebody and I can't do it because of or yeah, not even that, but even like me just being dad and husband, and I've got a very demanding full-time job. Real life, really. Yeah, real life. And then, like, you know, obviously everybody knows I'm you know close friends with Martin Ramos, so like I still help out at the skate park whenever I can. You know, it's like damn, and then you know, the stomach issue comes up, kids get sick, and so it's like then I start my emotions because I'm like, well, why am I even doing this if I can't consistently doing it? I'm failing myself, you know. And then I'm like, I you just gotta push that down and squash that negative because negative negativity breeds negativity and positivity breeds positivity.
SPEAKER_03But that's why you have a strong will. Yes, a strong will. It's about who you're around, too, man. Like the people you're around, too. I mean, like Paul and I motivate like motivate each other like hardcore, like because like he said, there's days he's not feeling it, there's days I'm not feeling it.

I started drinking real young and then same with smoking. I smoke and everything, but it was like I kind of went so long that I didn't know how to like cope with life. Yes, and then I I see it all the time. Then I hit like 30 years old and uh realized it was like I've been unhealthy coping with everything. It was like when it was something good happened, it was like, oh, we gotta go to the bar and get wasted because we gotta celebrate. And then it was like something bad happened. It was like, oh, I gotta go to the bar and get wasted because my life sucks. And it was just this perpetual cycle of and it I I I I got sober. You never get ahead. Yeah, and I got sober for three years and it allowed me to process a lot of shit that I never processed, and everything. And now I've Which is honestly beautiful.

And it was one thing I'd wanted to do for so long, but it took me kind of getting sober to get confidence and just like the want, yeah, the clear mind to be like, this is something I've wanted to do, I'm gonna try it. Right. And uh yeah, kinda, kinda since then it I've been able to reflect on idolizing the piss drunks as a teenager really kind of I mean junior year, bro. I was in an alcohol-induced coma. Damn. I went to prom. No way. And uh prom in fucking freshman year? Junior. Oh my god. Oh man, it's the pain meds. They're chicken in.

I took the little bucket that everything came in.

SPEAKER_06I woke up three days later, like intubated, like they told my mom they didn't know if I'd ever wake up again. They didn't know how long. So at some point, I backed myself into a bathroom, shut the door, and I passed out and I started throwing up on my back. And this chick who was there to pick up her younger sister, who graduated a year earlier with my sister, Carolyn Nath. Love you, Carolyn. Shout out, shout out, yeah.

So these guys essentially every year um around February, they they flood this property, they build all sorts of janky obstacles. Like one of them they have, I'm trying to find it where the it's so it's BMX, though. It's BMX, but they're starting to incorporate skateboard. Oh, okay. Like starting last year. And even if there was no skateboarding, it just kind of seems like a good fucking Florida touch. Like, you know what I mean? They got like four-wheelers out there, bikes, there's like mud, fireworks, you know what I mean? It's just like a gnarly event.
SPEAKER_03I dude, I asked uh Lauren Hoffman to if she because we it's kind of like the same thing. Like every time we try to get her on the episode, like uh she's sick, we're sick, you know. But like I asked her, I asked her if she was gonna do this weekend um but before Paul hit you up and not saying that you weren't in mind. You were in mind, actually. We've kind of been a little bit in the lane of skateboarding, but honestly, it took a little while. Several people when I first started doing it, and then after he even came along, we reached out to them, we're like, hey man, come sit down, chat with us, it'll be a good time. And everybody's kind of a little nervous. They're like, For sure, I don't know what are we gonna talk about, and I don't want to look like an idiot. And so it kind of took us putting out a little bit of content over a period of time and people checking it out for them to listen and be like, I think that I think that these losers don't take themselves seriously. You know, 90% of the time they're not gonna bother you, right? Right. But every once in a while you got an incident like this where they're big and the neighborhood knew about it. They had a name for the gator, and she was just standing there playing stupid games uh at the edge of the water with her back turned, and a little teacup sized dog uh gator swam across, went for the dog, and uh got her leg. Got grandma drug her right in the water. Right in the water, death rolled till she drowned. So once again I wonder what the statistics are on that in Florida. Uh they can't be high, right? Oh they're not high. They're not super high, but I don't know if you you know it's the problem is is people coming here, not realizing whether they move here and they've only been here a couple years, is that every whether it's your neighborhood pond, a man. Every pond's got a gator in it.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's true. Well, and and the city won't do anything. It a gator is not considered to be a nuisance or a threat until it reaches at least six feet of length. So you could have like a little four-foot, five foot one that will be killing raccoons and your cats and dogs. Yeah, but they're not gonna really go after anything other than a maybe a small child. Yeah. So they don't do anything for that. So that one was big, wasn't it? Yeah, it's like a 12-footer.

He was a known presence there, and that's where I, you know, I just had to use that video for play stupid games, win stupid prizes, because I know she's 85, but I feel like she probably might not have lived in Florida very long.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, so a couple years ago, down at Disney, there was a family visiting. I don't know if y'all remember this. I do remember that one. A two-year-old got snatched and killed and taken by a gator. I do remember that one. And there were signs posted around, but the family just was like, oh, you know, put some their baby down by the water for pictures and playtime. And that shit's gnarly, dude. Yeah. That's why I tell everybody. I was like, we're like the Australia of the United States. Seriously, bro. We got a lot of things that want to eat you down here. Because some some of the those gators are big. Yeah, they get real big. They get real big. And uh the more that our population grows and the more that we develop, uh, the more they're getting used to human presence. Yeah. So they're not afraid. That's sick. Um, yeah, I've seen the buffalo, the horses, the the the wild feral cattle out there.
SPEAKER_03Um can I ask like a question? Because I'm kind of curious. Do buffalo get like hoofs like horse, like horseshoes? So they have buffalo shoes? No, they don't get like shoes.

SPEAKER_03Well, that's why I'm asking is do buffalo get like buffalo shoes? No. No. Okay.

SPEAKER_04Is Pain's Prairie that big? Pain's prairie's huge. It's that big that there's enough room for all that. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_06It's like a couple thousand acres. Damn. Yeah, um, the bad thing is that a few years ago, the main dike that I'm sorry, what was that? A dike is an elevated area of land in a marshy area so that you can travel like a drive. So those that don't know, yeah, just yeah, like if you're driving on a highway and you see like marsh on one side and marsh on the other side, and this highway's just on this elevated area, that's technically a dike. Yeah. Okay. So the main dike path that would you used to be able to go out and like really see all the gators has been washed out. Oh, damn. So they're talking about rebuilding it, but they're gonna build it like an actually elevated boardwalk for safety.
SPEAKER_03Now, was it washed out because they were killing the horses and the buffalo?
SPEAKER_06No, this was washed out a couple years ago because of a really wet couple of summers that we had in a row. Um and such, because that is actually and the hurricanes and flooding? Yeah, well probably. And there's a sinkhole right near the what is it, the Alachua sinkhole or something. Um that when that aquifer starts to fill up with water, the floodplains of the prairie will flood. Dude, how brutal and so that whenever the aquifer gets lower in water, that's when the prairie is less flooded. Damn, if you will.
SPEAKER_03How brutal would it be to see like a horse or a buffalo going down the sinkhole? Can't do nothing about it. Like it'd be crazy to see a buffalo period, man, in the wild. What the hell? Wild. They're big, huge, huge, they're massive.
SPEAKER_06Huge. And and this was the crazy like, so me and my my wife, this was like our second time. She was the one that took me out there for the first time. And this was my second time out there, and we were kind of bummed, it was all washed out, but I'm like, I like going out in the woods, I'm like not fucking scared, grow camping and shit. Yeah, so it's like flooded, and I'm like, well, it's not that deep. I take off my shoes, and I like have my knife on me, and I got my backpack and stuff. I'm like, we're good. Like, we'll just go wait out. Let's see if it gets dry again. You know what I mean? A little further. Let's see if it raises back up. And so we start going out, and we've seen a bunch of little baby gators like all around, like, and we're walking through water, like shin deep water. Yeah. Starts getting a little bit deeper, and I see this kind of area up ahead, and I'm like, babe, I think it's actually gonna get drier up there. I was like, I think that's like land. And all of a sudden, it like turns around and almost like moves and then like swims. It was a fucking massive alligator just down the trail that we're like what you know, waiting in like shin deep water. And I'm like, no, baby. I was like, I was like, look, it's a it's like you can see it's gonna raise up, we'll be able to walk out of the water. Fuck no. And it was like once he I said that, he like moved and looked at us. He's like, Oh yeah, keep coming down here, guys. Come on, come on. So she looked at me and I looked at her and I was like, we need to go back. Yeah, we gotta get back. We're we're already like a quarter mile in to uh their territory. We don't need to be here anymore.

Yeah, and so then you could essentially have a walk path if you wanted to walk from Riverside down the riverwalk to downtown. Oh my god. It essentially is gonna be I didn't know all that. SPEAKER_06I've talked with a couple of people and I've had a few people. I know like some people say that they, oh, I can help you do this. I know there's some companies that's like, oh, register here at com and we make it real easy to do it all for you. How'd you go about it?
SPEAKER_04I just did it all myself. Yeah? Yeah. Through Shopify. Okay. Yeah, and I just honestly, bro, everything in my life I've learned on YouTube. That's what's anything I've ever learned is I just typed it in.
SPEAKER_06And so Shopify that kind of helped, yeah. I mean, like, so their sales link, I mean, yeah, everything links up.
SPEAKER_04It's like really easy to use. It's a little bit more expensive to pay for the month because it depends on how many products you want to sell on there. Right. But it's a little bit more pricey than the other ones. But I mean, it does everything for you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, my I'm plotting on trying to get, you know, because I know you've got like Patreon and all this stuff. I want to get a website where I can sell my like little bit of merch. Yeah. I can still put out my free podcast, but I can put out exclusive content behind my own paywall. Yeah, you need to. You know what I'm saying? Where I'm not having to divvy out money to somebody else to put it behind their paywall where they're taking a cut. I'm like, I'd rather just pay to get my website designed where I can just do that. You basically upload it, you can add all of your information to it, and then once you publish it, it publishes it to all the audio podcast platforms. Like Apple and stuff, Apple, Spotify, Google, the Amazon Podcast platform. I can't I don't know what it's called, but there's a couple of smaller ones. There's a lot. Yeah, but it's mainly like I mean, most of my users are or uh or listeners are from um Spotify or Apple. Right. And then there seems like Google and Amazon are like the next up. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06But it's cool because it also gives you this. Statistics, like you can see who's listening and where. So I mean it's like some episodes, like I've had people listening in Japan and Denmark. Some episodes I have, it's like it's crazy who finds it. Yeah, it's like oh, it's like how the fuck did a hundred people in California find this episode? You know what I mean? It's like it's wild. Yeah. But uh, but it is, you know, kind of playing in the algorithm. I do find that the more consistently we we put out content, the more those platforms suggest it to people. 100%. So it's like when we our lives get in our way, that's when we really start hurting ourselves. You know what I mean? It's like, damn it. I'm 57. I don't even want to look at the stats for this month. SPEAKER_03Exactly. Like, and and that was like the thing. Like, um, I had a lot of doctors tell me no because I was so young, and it's uh honestly, uh within 15 to 20 years, like probably when I'm like 50, 45, I'm probably gonna have to get a hip replacement again.

And like luckily, like I have shout out to Rick Morgan and his entire family, straight up, because they come and visit me now every Sunday, and his wife Melissa like hooks me up with with like a massage to like crank crank this shit out. Yeah. And it's like, well, when I do come back skateboarding, I'll be more good than 100%. Yeah, but like it it's they didn't want to do it because I was so young, and then I finally found like a doctor that took my insurance and was like, I'll take the risk. Yeah. And it turned out good then. I I can't complain. Yeah. It's uh it's everything that I needed and wanted. And Paul and I talked about for the last two and a half years bringing it up, and like honestly, I want this to be the last time it gets brought up until like I'm skateboarding again.

Yeah, so when people and I think that we do uh huge disservice of all this campaigning about trying to force people and almost guilt treat people into voting because I'm personally an independent. Yeah. I don't agree with the Democrats and I don't agree with the Republicans. I've you know, I'm kind of middle of the road. Yeah what I mean. I I I take it topic and issue at hand rather than what color you know your party is.

It's a little south of St. Augustine, and uh coming up A1A, there's this massive RV, dude, and it was literally covered with Trump stickers, flags, anti-Biden.

It was like and I and I saw it, and the first thing I thought about was that person must have like I don't know, I've just never worshipped or idolized anybody like that. Yeah, it's a problem. You get over the problem and you, you know, it's not who you are, it's not your whole identity. Yeah, yeah. I I feel like it's almost its own mental health disorder, the way that so many people just like completely that becomes their whole identity and they like worship it. From out of nowhere. The way that you're worshiping these politicians and and and and the the agendas they're pushing is kind of blasphemous to your own religious beliefs.

You know what I mean? Like people forget that you know this whole woke movement loves Joe Biden. Joe Biden authored the crime bill in 1991, which helped disproportionately incarcerate minorities and nonviolent drug offenders. Yeah. Okay. So now it's like 20 something years later, you want or 30 years later, you want to act like this man is a savior, like, no, let's, you know, call it what it is. Yeah, this guy is a manipulator and an actor. Well, a lot of people just like the rest of them are, you know. They're all the same. So I've I personally think that we as a people need to put them back in put them back in check where uh every every politician has a term. And then when you are finished with that public service seat, you don't have a six-figure salary and benefits for life. Yeah. You go right back into our society as a working person. Facts, yeah. Because instead we have like AOC, you know, um uh Alexandria Osario-Cortez from New York. I mean, she started off as just like some chick that lived in New York and that was like getting politically active in her party. Cool. Now she's turned into this like democratic elitist and like she's almost like a celebrity. And I mean, it's like why do we treat these people this way when their whole position is supposed to be public service? It's something with like Rachel Doza.
SPEAKER_03But uh like it turns into a point to where like it the the corruption and the like the politics is like they're trying to tell you how to live your life, and it's like this is this is how you're supposed to live your life, and then people are like, well, no, that's not possible because of the money that I'm bringing in. And the thing is, like, no, not none of us are like getting to the point of where we like are established to make that mean eventually, possibly, but at the same time, like we're like all of us that came from nothing, we're so humble that we would give it back. And and you know what really, really, really, really, really pisses me off is because these people that came from everything, they've always had money, they've always they've always had opportunity, they come, they come in as politics, and then they speak like they know what we're all going through from a lesser a lesson mean. Yeah, like well, you know what? Uh well, you know, people have no means. The problem is, is uh they don't have any means, and they'll never get there unless I tell them how to do it. And it's like, eh, fuck you, dude. That's not how that shit works.
SPEAKER_06Well, no, I mean, I think, yeah, the main the main thing is I don't know if you guys know, like, this is one of the problems. We've had that crash in East Palestine, Ohio. Yeah. The train derailment, right? That's that's put plumes of vinyl chloride, like, I mean, animals, people are trapped, there's people fleeing for their lives right now. So it's crazy. And the government lied about it, and they said that, oh, just shelter in place, there's no harmful effect. And then not only that, they've spent the the media has spent the last two weeks not covering it and instead covering every stupid fucking balloon that is seen in an atmosphere about because of the whole Chinese. It's like Chinese fire balloons, yeah. And people still don't understand the you know, this distraction. But anyway, man, I just you know, being that you're like a young uh business owner, you know, kind of coming up. You're better than us. Exactly. SPEAKER_06Never I never thought it would be true, but I remember being younger and them telling me that we're gonna be the future, and I was like, what the fuck are you? Y'all want want us to be the future, and now we are.

It's been uh maybe like a year or something, not too long. But yeah, he went up to New York with you this past year, right? SPEAKER_06When it hit the video game, I was definitely like, holy shit, this is some uncharted territory. But yeah, even since then, it's you know, the fact that we have like millionaire professional skateboarders is crazy.

I'm like, all right, this shit is possible because the Rob Deardex and the Paul Rodriguez's and stuff, you know, like doing legit business. Yeah, you know, I'm like, oh shit, you can really make if you do it the right way, you can make some money and live.

Oh yeah. But um, we went to Stratosphere and everything, and Stratosphere is one of the dopest skate shops I've ever been at. That was fire.

SPEAKER_03And then like Thomas showed up because Fink was there, and like Thomas like went up to Fink and like it was just mad love. And like Thomas is like, who's this guy? A lot of people, especially, I mean, because to to try, I mean, it's the Jacksonville, people love the Jaguars, so it's like, oh, what's one way to generate a little uh appeal and income? Everybody's gonna love something with teal or the jag print on it. And I don't even think you would ever have to, I mean, you could do that, but like I I think that regardless, because like I mean, dude, your shit's fucking popping. Yeah, yeah. And I you could see rappers wearing it. You could see fucking punk kids wearing it. That's what I thought. You could kind of see a skater wearing it. There's like PC for everywhere. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's like it's not very, it's not a brand or a style in your that I've seen from you, your products so far that is like niche.
