Skateboarding has a way of turning random people into lifelong crew, and Episode 55 is basically proof. We’re at the table with Dave Libhart (True East Brand and True East Construction) and Travis and Devin Murtiff (Ride On Concrete) to talk about where we came from, what we’re building now, and what we refuse to let skateboarding become. We get into first boards, early sessions, Kona and Monument memories, and the local names and moments that still define what “core” feels like in real life.

Then we zoom in on the work: concrete, skate obstacles, and the new changes happening at Kona. Travis and Devin break down what it takes to pour features that actually skate well, while Dave explains how True East Brand grew from a construction logo into a skateboarding-focused apparel brand that gives back to DIY skateparks and community projects. If you’re searching for skatepark construction stories, DIY skateboarding culture, or brands that reinvest in the scene, this one hits home.

We also get honest about modern skateboarding: Instagram clips replacing full skate videos, the Olympics effect, and the rise of “skate coaches” for families who didn’t grow up around the culture. Plus, we do what we do and spiral into “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” before coming back around to travel, building abroad, and why Japan left such a mark. Subscribe, share this with your skate group chat, and leave a review, then tell us: is skateboarding a sport, a game, or something else entirely?

SPEAKER_08

A lot of a lot of their stuff gets uh donated to the DIY if you buy anything. There's certainly it goes to different DIY projects, there's certain stuff that people are doing. So real ones for that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, for sure. Um Dave is originally a Pennsylvania boy, like your boy, and uh you know for show and proud of it. No, no. SPEAKER_00

So shut the fuck up.

SPEAKER_02

Hey everybody, it's your boy Paul Lee wants your mama's sweet ass. You know it all day every day, and I got my brother with me, Dr. Jones.

SPEAKER_00

You call him Dr. Jones.

SPEAKER_08

I fucking lost a fingernail for this shit. Let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

But I was uh just saying, man, this is gonna be a little interesting because we've got uh a plethora of interesting people to talk to today.

First Boards And Early Sessions

SPEAKER_02

Um we've got Dave Suede uh from True East Brand here sitting at the table, and then we've got the the Murtoff brothers, right? Murtoff. Murtiff. Yes, sir. Brothers. Yeah, man, super stoked. Um kind of start off with uh skate questions, you know, with everybody, and get everybody kind of introduce themselves so everybody can kind of get to know you a little bit. So if you don't mind, we'll just go round table real quick. Uh introduce yourself. How old are you? When did you first start skating? Go ahead, Dave.

SPEAKER_04

Uh Dave Libhart started skating in '86, 49 years old. Uh Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It's where I was born and raised. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Shout out.

SPEAKER_07

All right, go ahead, bro. Travis Murtiff, um, 28 years old, soon to be 29 on the Monday, the 14th. Fuck yeah, we're starting. That's right.

SPEAKER_03

We're fine party.

SPEAKER_08

All right, same day school starts too.

SPEAKER_07

Exactly. Then uh start skating around like the end of third grade, target on the Kona.

SPEAKER_02

Hell yeah, hell yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Me and my brother.

SPEAKER_02

So I was about to say, probably similar. Did he get into skating because of you? We both kind of fell into it at the same time, I guess. Hell yeah, hell yeah. So uh, anybody here grow up surfing? We got a lot of you know, cross surf skate culture here. I never really had the patience to paddle out and wait for waves.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. Definitely needed. I'm a land creature dog.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. No, more recently got into it, but it takes effort to get out there and wake up early.

SPEAKER_02

So I've I've actually thought about sharks out there. Yeah, there's sharks out there. Right? And now there's cocaine sharks. I don't know if you've heard of it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah, cocaine sharks are litting up the space car right here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I just heard about that yesterday. Fucked up.

SPEAKER_08

They are out there and they're serious.

SPEAKER_02

Fentanyl. Yeah, fentanyl sharks. Yeah, they're numb to everything.

SPEAKER_08

You can't even poke them on the eye no more, punch them in the nose, dude. Yeah, I wonder if you can't feel a goddamn thing, dude.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that kid that jumped off that cruise in the Bahamas, they said that uh he was never seen again because they think he was taken by a shark. I wonder if it was one of those cocaine sharks. Oh, it's definitely a cocaine shark, dude. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

How do you take it back to its lair? Yeah, that's that's our story.

SPEAKER_04

We're speaking with it.

SPEAKER_02

So, Dave, let me ask you this. Um, first skateboard.

SPEAKER_04

First skateboard was a 10-inch wide, like 10 by 30 fat and flat? Yeah, roller derby was the uh manufacturer. It was like a fiberglass board. There were obviously a shit ton of wood boards being bought, but it was like, I think, the cheapest alternative that I had. And then uh worked that summer. My buddy um good buddy of mine. I just saw him two weeks ago up at the uh ranch camp. We grew up together, skateboarding together. He got a board, and then I was like, fuck, I gotta get a skateboard. Oh yeah. You know what I mean? Because we were doing paper routes and shit, so I wasn't gonna walk my paper route while he was fucking kicking around. Fuck no. And uh so yeah, gotta uh save my money up that summer. Uh went down to Ocean City, uh, Maryland. That's where we went in the summer times, and um went into a shop, got a board, and it was like this fiberglass, 10 inch wide, 30 inches long, flat as fuck, fiberglass, like, and it had some kind of weird, like did it have like a curved kicktail, like a real kicktail, too? Like some kind of weird fucking core in it. Uh really had a kicktail, die, die-cut grip tape on it, ACS 900 trucks, and uh roller derby 88A's were the wheels on it. Nice orange. And it it's uh the board was called the Firefly. You can you there people know about them.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. Typically I've I I bust out my laptop and I have it at one end, but I was like, man, we gotta make room for everybody at the table here today. What about what about what about you fellas? I mean, what was your uh your first board? So I'm assuming from the era it was a popsicle. Yeah, a popsicle.

SPEAKER_07

My first initial board, I think, was Walmart Margo. No, it was a mine was uh a meltdown board from Dick's Boarding Goods. God damn right it was. God damn right it was. That hard plastic bushing, fucking can't even first real core board that was probably the zero, three skulls blood dripping board. That's probably the first real board. 7-5.

SPEAKER_08

Mine was a zero, three stars.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. I think I had uh uh element fiber light or feather light, whatever it was. Yeah, feather light, yeah. Yeah, I had those, but that was definitely my first board. Was that like Chrome one? No, it was like blue. Yeah, that was a yellow. What year is this? When are we talking? This was probably 03 or 04. Early 2000s. Yeah, something like that. Okay. I'm Devin, by the way. We didn't get to introduce. Oh fuck.

SPEAKER_03

We didn't get there yet.

SPEAKER_07

I'm doing right though.

SPEAKER_03

And do goddamn time, son.

SPEAKER_02

That's why I said this is gonna be interesting. Hold on, listeners. Fuck.

SPEAKER_07

We're gonna sign it!

SPEAKER_02

All right, go ahead, Devin.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, sure, that's it. My name's Devin.

SPEAKER_08

What are you, my what are you, my mom? That's all you get.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so right around the time they came out with that featherlight board, uh, because they had the feather as like their emblem, um, they started doing the small for the groms and tweak boards. And then that yeah, termite company came out. Remember, termite was around making the little mini boards. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And now they got an array of I don't remember this. Gimmicky little boards.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah, the tweak boards for like the kids' boards.

SPEAKER_02

Early 2000s, it was right around the time that they really started skateboarding was really at its height of popularity in the sense that you know, it was Tony Hawk's gigantic skate park tours, the video games, it was all that going on. So there was m more families, you know, getting their kids younger and younger into it again, uh riding that wave. So they started making you know popsicle shapes, but small. Well, we used to call minis. Yeah, like oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

They were there the minis. Yeah. The Elements series of them was called Twix. Okay. And then um, what was it? Uh termite.

SPEAKER_07

Termite.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, there's termite boards.

SPEAKER_03

They're and all the termite boards were small, every single one of them got it.

SPEAKER_02

And they only sp they had a kid, uh team of kids. I think the oldest one was maybe 10.

SPEAKER_08

Colin Provost wrote for termite. I believe it. I didn't know that, but I believe it.

SPEAKER_02

Um so I mean you guys said you pretty much grew up skating Kona first, really. Yeah, yeah, we were definitely kind of kids. Um, if you had to pick street or park or both.

SPEAKER_07

Backyard.

SPEAKER_02

Backyard. I like it. What about you, Dave? Same. Same backyard. Same, for sure. Just uh doesn't matter, backyard pool, backyard ramp, whatever.

SPEAKER_04

Just yeah, hanging out, you know, just barbecue. Just seems like seems like you're hanging out and doing your thing and no rules.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. It's just the sessions always seem to get fired up a little bit harder.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and you're it's I don't know. For me, that's what it was when we started. You know, like if you weren't skating straight, you were in somebody's backyard. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm always in somebody's backyard, if you know what I mean.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway, sorry. Captain Inappropriate. No. We are all inappropriate here. Let me cover my mic.

SPEAKER_08

Don't worry, dude. If you're worried about age, you already got it, son. You walked in this house, you got it.

SPEAKER_02

I beat it before. You can live with it now, apparently. You know, just ask Magic Johnson. Oh shit. So uh regular or goofy? Regular? Regular. Regular, yeah. Fucking. You're outnumbered.

SPEAKER_08

Oh man, you want to fucking fight about it, boys? I'll arm wrestle every one of you right now.

SPEAKER_07

We got the upper hand. You can scare you can skate a switch pretty good, though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and you can do all the late flip shit.

SPEAKER_02

And I never even in my heyday, I could never do all that fancy shit.

SPEAKER_08

And I was like, No, I just smoked a lot of weed, boys.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I did too.

SPEAKER_08

Speaking of which. Not enough.

SPEAKER_02

Speaking of which, is it time to spark up again? Hey, smoke weed every day, yes, sir.

SPEAKER_08

Back in the goddamn game, baby.

SPEAKER_02

So I like to ask everybody this if you had to choose frontside or backside.

SPEAKER_08

Can I take a guess? Front side looks cool. Broadside. Broadside. That's what I was gonna guess for all three of yell too. Yeah, I knew it.

SPEAKER_04

Shout out to shout out to load. Backside don't count.

SPEAKER_02

Backside don't count. I like that. Um, switch or fakey.

SPEAKER_03

Fakey, faky, fakey. Hell yeah. Yeah, fakey.

SPEAKER_04

Just uh just don't have the talent for all the switch. I don't either. I mean, I'll be honest with you.

SPEAKER_02

Like on a small mini ramp, I'd be like switch back 50s and shit like that. You know what I mean? But that's about it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, switch carve, switch carve. That was about heyday.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, switch carve? Uh yeah, like I'll get a little uh switch snake bomb. That's always fun. That's scary. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So the switch, what exactly do you mean?

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Mine might not be true switch snake bomb. It might look a little backwards as fuck.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, he's he's riding faky the whole way. He's calling it switch, but we all know the truth, boys.

SPEAKER_02

All right, so uh kick flipper, heel flip. Doc is a uh a kick flipper, I'm a heel flipper. What we got sitting at the table. Oh, Ollie.

SPEAKER_08

Ollie. I like that.

SPEAKER_03

Some of the bitches truth flip. I've seen them, dude, and they mean. Just this morning.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I don't I don't uh have uh any flip tricks, even my heel flips that I used to be good at on lock anymore. Yeah, fucking everything escapes me these days.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, hey, bro, it counts.

SPEAKER_02

I'll count it.

SPEAKER_08

I'm not even pulling none of it, boys. You got it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, not now currently.

SPEAKER_08

Kick flip, heel flip, where are you going? Alright, kick flip. That's all I got.

SPEAKER_07

All right, there it is. You can golly flip. You heard it here first and pop on the pod. Oh, you know? Yeah. What are you technical about?

SPEAKER_03

Nolly flip?

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's impressive.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, we got a spot outside we're gonna find out in a little bit when we take our first break.

SPEAKER_07

So it's gonna be a minute.

SPEAKER_02

So let me ask you this, Dave.

Favorite Skaters And Local Heroes

SPEAKER_02

Uh growing up, who was your favorite skater? Favorite skater? I mean, you can you can name a couple, obviously. It's kind of hard to manage them.

SPEAKER_04

Man, name them all. Dude, like uh, you know, we had uh, I mean, there were so many guys. Um I mean, just watching video, I would say. My favorite skater was like, you know, the obvious Chris Miller, um just just power kind of like more style-oriented guys. Um was always into transition skating. Um, you know, but there were just like a handful of dudes. Uh you name it. I mean, we had we had, you know, I would run into Jim Murphy at like Magic Skate, Reading Skate Park, um all the DC guys would be in and out of you know, Lansdown. That was only like 45 minutes from us. So there were just uh I mean, you would I would see She I've seen a skate at Lansdown with Sean Sheffi. I mean, like just watching that fucking dude push and Ollie, like if you've ever been to Lansdown, there's like this mogul, and you I mean, he was uh just fucking badass, man.

SPEAKER_08

Dude, there's certain dudes, and Ollie looks like a completely different tree.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, from everybody else's like he he he fucking his Ollies were like effortless, like a like a fucking carve, but like hauling ass. You know, like and Grant Taylor-esque. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like, and I mean, look at dudes like him. I mean, he like there's fucking favorite skater as a kid, really, was like every other skateboarder. Right. You know, like I was just I was just stoked on skateboarding. Yeah, you know, like even if I wasn't, you know, when you're a kid, like I was a kid, like if my buddies were playing fucking a pickup game of football down the road, I'd be like, fuck skate, I'm gonna fucking play with these motherfuckers. You know, clack helmets real quick, boys. Skateboard home or whatever, whatever was going on, you know, like with fucking wait till it snowed and try to play soccer when when you pack down the snow and turn into ice.

SPEAKER_02

Fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Just everybody'd eat shit and like I don't know, man. Like just being at the park or being with our buddies street skating, just like be a part of it, man. They're all they're all my favorites.

SPEAKER_02

Being a uh, you know, a fellow Pennsylvania kid, um growing up every year when the buckeyes would fall, we'd fucking organize big neighborhood buckeye wars. Basically, it was like, imagine you know, a fucking water balloon fight, but they're just these hard ass fucking buckeyes. We'd store them for like weeks and make little forts and have stash spots and like we have our own territories, and then one weekend it would just commence and be going home every night with welts all over. But it was the most fun shit in the world.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. Is this how before paintball started, fellas?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Because I was like, what, 12 when I started skateboarding? So I was like, oh fuck. Yeah, I was doing all the shit the kids are doing. Like, we're partying, we're still partying, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Like, yeah, I got into skating when I moved down here in '98. So I was like, when I started skateboarding, I was 14. Um, but I mean I could definitely imagine. Who was y'all's first like favorite skaters growing up? Uh because y'all's era was when I was like graduating my my prime. I was graduating high school.

SPEAKER_07

Locally, it was like uh Buck obviously. Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah, for sure. Like Buck DBS crew, like Brad Cantro, Chris Jolly. Yeah, big shout out to all them boys.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Chris Jolly still sucks at skateboards. Yeah, Charles Porter. He's lingered a pop ship at eight times. That's it. Yeah. I'll start that war, Jolly, if you hear this.

SPEAKER_02

Charles Porter, man. Shout out to Chuck, dude. I miss that kid. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

He's up, he's up fishing, like up north.

SPEAKER_02

I think he lives in Indiana. He's doing good. Yeah, he's fishing out there. I'm happy for him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Mike Peterson, too. He was the best. Oh, yeah. The hometown people.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he's still he's still. Yeah, no, he's still the best.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, honestly, when you're talking about the Ollie, I was thinking, I was like, the way Peterson fucking pops him and then tweaks them, and he can do those one-footers so good, it's just like I learned those because of him, dude.

SPEAKER_08

Like those one-footers like that. Tim Johnson, too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we live through Johnson's Tim Johnson, too. Timmy. Oh, yeah, for sure. But it was it was good seeing everybody. Um, you know, rest in peace, Frank Bago. This is really like the first time sitting down with some guys that knew him.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That was that was a fucking tough one. And then, you know, just what, like a couple weeks after that, then Jimmy Plumer, uh another, you know, East Coast Florida legend.

SPEAKER_04

So leave my people low. We were just talking about Frankie's uh frontside grinds this morning at the park. Yeah. Like the last. Did you guys ever skate his bowl when it after it was concrete? No, I didn't skate after it was concrete. I did I hit a long, long toilet. Yeah, these guys skated it, but like there were like these little yeah, toilet bowls. Yeah, there were like these little the deep, there was actually a side of it that was deeper than the other by like a foot. I would hope that there were these like fucking extensions that came down, kind of just you know, elevated down. And Frankie would lap these fucking grinds on it, and that thing was like gnarly to skate. You know what I mean? It was not a give me at all. And he just his grinds in general were fucking textbook. Right there. Right there. On the on the shirt. Powerhouse to my dude. Yeah, fucking uh great guy. Um he was, you know, we when I moved up here from Daytona in '98, uh we spent a lot of the time over there. Like Big Jim lived on one side of the bowl, and and and Frank was, you know, on the other. His house was on, it was the bowl was built basically right in between their their houses. And uh we spent a lot of time over there, you know, and and Frankie was just always Frankie, just funny fucking good ball, fucking, just always, you know, looking for the next laugh, man.

SPEAKER_02

For sure. For sure, yeah. No, my fondest memories, because I I really knew him through growing up skating at Kona and just always being out there and fucking the heat of the day. Heat of the day, dude. The hottest point. Fucking shirt. Shirt off. Yep, sure. Yeah, dude, shirt off, fucking sweating. Tiny. I don't think I've ever seen him in a shirt.

SPEAKER_08

Have y'all ever seen him in a shirt? Dude, I don't think I ever have. Like always in a battery. Shirts I've seen him in were always cut off mostly. Yeah, he's got a crop.

SPEAKER_04

He wasn't trying to get much of a shirt off.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, for sure. Yeah. But every time, like he would do it, it'd like chase the kooks off, he'd be like, Well, I'm gonna go clear the kooks out. And you just fucking whiz by everybody in the concrete super fucking fast, and just next thing you know, you watch everybody just move the fuck out of his way.

SPEAKER_08

You don't want those problems, dog. That's a shoulder check that's gonna fuck up your collarbone for sure. You've been there. Yeah, I got yeah. No, I know that I know that actually uh from experience. Yeah, yeah. He took you out? No, Frank didn't, but uh Vinny did. Okay, yeah, Vinny. Vinny got yeah, his monument just opened. It was, dude, he got me good. Yeah, very vividly. And I'm fucked up on the ground, dude, and Vinny's over me about to punch me in the fucking face. Like I did something wrong.

SPEAKER_03

You did, you just play. You did. You pissed him off. Shit.

SPEAKER_08

I'm the one that's gonna go to the hospital. I'm more mad than he is, dude.

SPEAKER_07

I can still hear that collision.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, okay. That was a clock, that was a clacker. Son of a bitch. I felt that.

SPEAKER_07

He's down.

SPEAKER_08

He's gonna hit him, he's gonna hit him. You know he's gonna cry when he gets in the car, right?

SPEAKER_07

So you fellas uh grew up skating monument as well? Yeah, once it got open, we were there a lot. That's kind of yeah, we went Kona then Monument pretty much. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I was trying to make it out there this morning, I just didn't. That park's fun. I fucking love that. That's my favorite park in Jack Beach. Yeah, and it was like the best thing when Jack's Beach opened up because then Monument became skatable again. Because it used to get so crowded with so many fucking kids. And I mean a lot of them trying to skate, but then it was like all the scooters and everything. Basically, if there's no little little league going on, you're you're good. Yeah, there's no scooter kids. If the little league's going on, then the moms are over there with their other kids in the scooters. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Dude, you've seen dudes in mountain bikes try to fucking ride that shit. Oh, really? Mountain bikes? Mountain bikes, not like fucking BMX bikes, mountain bikes. Tall motherfuckers. Yeah, they're still dude, they're catching they're switching gears between banks to banks. Right, right, right. Like mid-air, you can see dude, like those dudes, because they're not getting up on the barricade and fucking putting pegs down or nothing. They're just going as fast as they can, trying to get as far as they can. And it's the grossest shit ever because like every time they fall, they skid about 15 minutes. Are they jumping shit or what are they doing? Yeah, are they carving through the balls or what? Carve through the balls. Then like they go and hit the fucking hip up right there in the middle, right in front of where the pocket is, and they'll try and launch it as far as they can, except they've never done that before. They don't know what they're doing. Right.

SPEAKER_02

They took their shit down to Hannah Park once, and they're like, Yeah, we're gonna take it out of the concrete this weekend, but look at this flip. Look at this place. It's like somebody uh take their nitro car out there. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's that guy. And that shit's kind of wild because like he'll literally launch from one of the banks and fucking go 45 feet through the air and fucking land and pump the corner, and I'm like, okay, I'll actually stop for a minute and watch this because it's kind of like 17 backflips, that's impeccable. Yeah, dude, so through the fucking air and lands. I'm like, is that thing indestructible or what?

SPEAKER_08

Travis, do y'all remember when that dude showed up and he was just flying his drone over top of the skate park? Yeah, but he stood in the parking lot the whole time.

SPEAKER_07

We were throwing rocks at it and shit. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I just remember we all like went down there and like talked to him. He's like, he was like, Yeah, I know. I'm just I'm I'm trying to catch you up from above for my YouTube channel and stuff. And we were like, why don't you just go up there and uh hang out? And he's like, Nah, I can't do that. I don't like the sound of any of that. I'm not exactly sure how 500 feet it works, but I don't think you're from two and front.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, where's the playground at? Not close enough.

SPEAKER_08

And the baseball field's right behind him, dude.

SPEAKER_02

So uh let me ask you guys this Murtiff Brothers, favorite uh skate park could be anywhere, and uh favorite skate spot, like street spot, it could

Parks Spots And Kona Changes

SPEAKER_02

be anywhere. Doesn't have to be local.

SPEAKER_07

Damn. Fuck, what was the one in uh we were working in uh Boston or whatever? It was like kind of like Kona, but had like crazy concrete, and it was all the DIY spot? Not DIY. Fuck. It'll come to me in a second. The California skate skate park? No. They make some good. Monument's my favorite skate park, I'd say. Fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Axe is definitely not a skate park.

SPEAKER_02

It's a backyard.

SPEAKER_08

You gotta walk 80,000 miles to get even through dirt just to even get there.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I mean, I could tell you that's technically a skate spot, so that could be your skate spot if you want to dig it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you know what? All in favor? The ramp house at lane is pretty fun.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, a lot of stuff. It's hard to say.

SPEAKER_04

We're talking favorite all time. All time, favorite all time.

SPEAKER_08

Oh shit.

SPEAKER_04

He's got a roller decks, he's got a big skate spot would have been uh my house in Atlantic Beach, the pool we built there. That was like we were skating a lot then, and um fuck, just spending a lot of time there. That was definitely my favorite all time.

SPEAKER_07

What was the banks in Oakland in Pennsylvania? Those banks at the schoolyard? I've been there once. You said you've been there.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you're not in Oakland, the uh the uh Crofton banks.

SPEAKER_07

Crofton banks, right? That's where the school, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a pretty good spot. That's a great spot. Yeah, that's a good spot.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, hell yeah. Still there.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, it is, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I was actually last time I was up there was like a year and a half ago for my birthday. So, like, not this past March, one before that. And uh it was fun. It was my first time taking my daughters up there, and so we did the whole memory lane thing. But me and uh my oldest, we went and skated the Polish Hill Bowl. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Mike Mike Myers, patient 37, man, good friend of mine.

SPEAKER_02

Man, he's got a good record collection. Big old expansion cracks.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you're talking about the Polish Hill Park.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the park.

SPEAKER_04

So there's an indoor bowl there. Yeah, no, I have not skated that one.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man. Yeah. I'm talking about the one that was made by uh, I think I heard it was a driveway company that the uh city commissioned a long time ago. So it's been there for a long for a long time, but it's got massive expansion expansion joints. Clack clack, click, clack, and they put them right at the bottom of the tranny. So you're talking like it's like the flat bottom's about three and a half, four feet too long. So you're just like to get five walls is a fucking trophy. Yeah. Because you're just everything you're just pumping so hard.

SPEAKER_04

Did you did they have the uh new quarter pipe on the deck when you were there? Like the good new concrete quarter pipe? Yes, it's it's a pocket.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, they had that, and they had a couple of janky things that somebody did on the deck that they tried as well.

SPEAKER_04

The guys that built that pocket are um good friends of ours that live in Polish Hill. Greg Russo, uh just just a bunch of guys got together.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I could see. I was like, all right, well, clearly the community is like taking this over and about to put something that's actually worth a damn around here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they've they've got some ideas to like pour an entire park inside of that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean they could fucking I heard they could re-pour the bowl, they just use it, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_07

Just fucking Groton, Connecticut? Yes. That part. Yeah, Groton. Groton or Groton? Groton. Groton. That's probably what I'm like. Out of Florida was the funnest one. Oh yeah, never been in there. Never heard of Kona. Yeah, kinda not really, but just the concrete is like it's fun.

SPEAKER_08

We talk about old Kona concrete or the new shit they got going on.

SPEAKER_02

Old. Yes. Yeah, well let's talk a little bit about the new shit that they got going on.

SPEAKER_08

Oh wait, don't we know a couple guys that are proaching tits on with that?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I thought we met them last time. I don't fucking know.

SPEAKER_02

No, I I know I know Marty.

SPEAKER_08

Pretty sure they're still gay though. I mean, it was word on the block. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

No, I know Marty's had uh plans for a low impact street plaza out there for a while, and I guess y'all are do have done the first phase or whatever, that redoing that whole little two-flat two area.

SPEAKER_08

What do y'all call that? Phase one or fucking phase it or phase done?

SPEAKER_07

Yes, please. I call it phase one. I don't know. All right. Yeah. I think he wants to do some more stuff there, so we'll see how it goes.

SPEAKER_02

Hell yeah, no, it turned out really nice. Yeah, dude, that shit's brutal, dude. I'm good.

SPEAKER_08

Somebody, I'll take one. Somebody, dude, right there, like where that double set is in the hover, they all built in that wall that just goes up like that. Yeah, somebody's gonna get broke hard. Yeah. Oh, the wall? The wall. Dude, I can't wait. Sorry, dude. I know it sounds like an asshole to say like that. But just because I want to just be there to see it. What do you think?

SPEAKER_02

Somebody should try to like wall ride it? Nah, maybe.

SPEAKER_08

Probably.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, that looks like Francisc. If anybody's gonna do anything on that, it'd be different.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but as a go as a goofy footer dog, I mean, I'm just saying I'm I'm not looking at the world front side like you dudes. All right. So I'm just I'm just pretty sure somebody's gonna try to fucking try to get that trying to sweep out.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, something about goofy footing and uh sweating in the air conditioning. Yeah, I don't know what's going on right now.

SPEAKER_08

Don't act like you're not impressed.

SPEAKER_02

A couple shots of fireball at noon and uh my dude is uh He's heating up!

SPEAKER_08

I had to I had to bring the heat today, boys. Uh I got I got I got the booze with us, dude.

SPEAKER_02

No doubt. So uh do you guys have any firm plans on like what what's the next phase?

SPEAKER_08

I mean, y'all you can't you can't say that.

SPEAKER_07

Come on, did they just give us a yes or a no? It's kind of molding itself into something. I don't know what it changes a lot, so yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I understand.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but hopefully, I mean, more flowy course, probably I think he's really shooting for, but I mean, kind of whatever he wants to do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that uh that hub is similar. They used to there used to be a wooden one there with like angle on it. Yeah, little B was there too. Remember little B? Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

The little rapper? That thing was a rapper?

SPEAKER_08

Little B the rapper was there? No. Oh boy can dream, damn it. Yeah, I know who you're talking about.

SPEAKER_02

So how many days did it take y'all to pour that? It was a process.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we were doing other jobs in between, so yeah, it was maybe like two months, two and a half months. Is that y'all do concrete work full-time?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Do they?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Wait, don't y'all own a company?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. What's the company? Right on concrete. Hell yeah. Where can they find you at?

SPEAKER_07

As of right now, right here, but give it to them.

SPEAKER_03

It's a whole fucking show's right here. This is what you get. This is what you fucking get.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, there's no dot-coms. No dot coms yet. I mean, mainly like what?

SPEAKER_02

Instagram driveways, patios kind of stuff.

SPEAKER_07

Skate obstacles. I've been working for Dave. Dave's been getting his job as through true east construction. We've been doing pool stuff like footers and stuff like that. Hell yeah. Fine job been doing. I appreciate that. I appreciate that. But yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I expect nothing less from the boys. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Try to do a little bit of everything, really.

SPEAKER_02

Boy. Fuck yeah.

Why True East Gives Back

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's what I was gonna, you know, talk to you about, um, Dave is man, true East brand, dude. Um, especially really appreciated what you posted the other day about like kind of skateboarding and the scene and everything. Yeah. So I was like, true words may not have been spoken. Um, what I mean inspired you to kind of create a brand to give back completely to the fucking community. There's so many people trying to utilize social media for clout and fucking insta fame and shit. And this is like about as selfless as it can come.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I was off uh social media for a couple of years before we started doing it. And um, you know, I think if it's it's like I don't know. If you use that shit for the right reasons, cool, but like, you know, dudes that are out there posting sh pictures of themselves and clips of themselves, that's I don't know. I think that's kind of beat. Uh I gotta give the followers what they want. Well, you know, I mean, I I'm here for my fans as well.

SPEAKER_05

You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_04

No, but uh, so so it started out as really my construction company logo, true's construction, and um just buddies from all around locally, up and down the east coast, were hitting me up, like, man, where can I get one of those shirts at? You know what I mean? Like with the logo sick, whatever. And uh then my wife Lindsay and I just were like, fuck it, let's start making some shirts. And then for a year shout out to the wife Lindsay.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, yeah. Not a lot of wives.

SPEAKER_04

She's got she's got uh she's got her own thing, you know. So she has she has a company called True East Design, and she does, you know, imaging, uh design work, logos, um, like just a lot of badass shit. You should just check her out, hit her, whatever. Yeah, she's an early, she does some cool stuff, and um so she kind of did all the you know the digital everything that needed to be done that I have no fucking clue what she does. You know what I mean? I'm I'm I build swimming pools. You know what I mean? All right, this is your gig. But uh no, we started we started making t-shirts, stickers, uh koozies, um, pretty much, you know. You within our fucking skateboard community, which I've got contacts up and down the east coast, just being where I'm from and being here so long and whatever, like it's like, well, okay, how long am I gonna like make t-shirts to give to my fucking buddies? Like, as much as I like doing that, well, now my buddies can buy a t-shirt and they're giving into something, you know what I mean? Like, otherwise, it's just like, okay, well, cool, my business is doing good right now. I'm building swimming pools and I'm building, you know, making t-shirts for my buddies. T-shirt. Well, you know, like fuck, which is it's cool to do, but at the end of the day, it's like, well, we can do something with this that benefits us as skateboarders. Hell yeah. Um kids that aren't skateboarders yet, that might live in a shit bag, you know, or have a shit bag family, and they that's I mean, that's why, you know, for whatever reasons like whatever kind of reason, whatever kind of reasons like that. I mean, that's probably why we're all doing this shit sitting at this table. Yeah, for real. Yeah, the whole camaraderie of it, you know. So, like, it's uh it's just uh it's an opportunity to do something cool while like giving back the skateboarding.

SPEAKER_02

For sure. Yeah, that's that's fucking super rap.

SPEAKER_04

Pretty fucking easy math, man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, have y'all been down to Flossy, the DIY spot down in uh Springfield?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we uh we we all of us together and a few other. Oh, that's not skatable? Nice, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like when when when Cameron uh McKeachin first started putting shit out there, I was running my own little small carpentry business, and I was doing like a lot of fences for one summer, and I just kept saving all my extra concrete shit, and I was like, help giving it to him to fucking um take down there. Yeah, no, that's why I think that whole I remember taking a bunch of rubble down there and just being like, anybody. But the block, the first like go skate day that Flossy was around, they took a bunch of skateboards out on go skate day, just gave to local kids. And man, I you see those kids from the there's like a fucking half dozen of them that got those boards. Yeah, and they just go there, they live in the neighborhood right there and they skate flossy every day. It's like they're better than us. If you build it, they will come.

SPEAKER_04

The block's rad, man. We do a lot of shops with True East Brand. I do a lot of stuff with Pete, you know, the guys down there. They the shop's just fucking awesome anyway. Oh, yeah, you know what I mean? Like the fact that they're like so down with doing shit and giving back to the community, you know. Like, what the fuck are you gonna do? Like, take take this dream with you.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, fuck, they're just like us as like older, like older dudes now, like it's not about us anymore. We gotta support the youth and bring the youth up. Like you know, so like that's like the the difference in it because like you know, you can still be an old greedy bastard and it's like get the fuck out of my way, squirt. But also, you can still be the same dude, just like, here man, take a board, dude. You need he needed more than I do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, for sure. And I remember looking up to you know some of the old heads that were you know regulars around Kona. I mean, before the big street course was ever built when there was still a tiny janky one on top of the snake and they had the mini ramp, and it was like Wild Man and Bobby Shepard. Yeah, and um yeah, I mean, just a bunch of you know, guys. Jamie's awesome. Wild man, y'all.

SPEAKER_08

Shout out to Wild Man, dude. I know, I know he's noodling right now, dude.

SPEAKER_02

I talked to him the other day. Yeah, oh yeah. No, and those were the same guys that honestly got me into construction because it was like they would let me in on the session with them, and then I'd talk a bunch of shit being a young kid. You know what I mean? Oh, you think you're so tough, come scrap out the job site after school tomorrow. I remember go finally doing that. Suck up.

SPEAKER_03

But then finally roll this shit up. Let's get the fuck on out of here. You get there, probably scrapping this motherfucker.

SPEAKER_08

For sure. You get there, they're leaving.

SPEAKER_02

No, I no, I got there and they were lighting up. I would pull up in my little 93 Asuzu fucking pickup truck, and then all of a sudden they'd be like, fucking, oh damn, it's that time already. Their blood, their bags were off, and I'm fucking back and forth to the dumpster hauling shit, and they're just fucking, I smell weed and all they're like, you missed one, come back and run the master.

SPEAKER_07

We got something to get out there for you to get don't forget the sawdust.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah, we're gonna how many eggs do you think it's gonna take to make all that sawdust?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but hey, you know. Hey, I fucking loved the hazing, man, because when you fucking, you know, once once you fucking dealt with it and you could dish it back.

SPEAKER_04

I did that with these guys, man. And like now they're fucking hazing me.

SPEAKER_02

That's the thing about it. Like, that's why you do it. Yeah, yeah, right? There's nothing like busting some balls.

SPEAKER_08

You're up next, man. I remember fucking Bago when I was a Grom, dude. Used to fucking get me so bad. Like scaring me, like fucking rolling clothes. What are you doing right there?

SPEAKER_02

The fucking way?

SPEAKER_08

That's not your spot.

SPEAKER_02

That's not your fucking spot.

SPEAKER_07

The heckle is real. At the time, it's heartbreaking.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, dude, I could I I had a lot, dude. Oh, but it made so dude, hiding under a ramp crying for about 10 minutes, dude, so nobody can see you. Never gonna be anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but when you finally hear that in the distance from the guy that's been heckling you, you're like, it was all fucking worth it. Finally earned his respect.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I knew he thought I was cool.

SPEAKER_03

No, he didn't. All I had to do was bring this case of beer. Cold. Luke, lukewarm.

SPEAKER_08

I still ask for my grandpa in the garage. You fellas want this?

SPEAKER_02

So what are uh Murdoff Brothers? What are y'all's thoughts on the state of skateboarding now? I mean, it's with social media, you know, everybody like trying to be insta-famous, kind of like Dave alluded to earlier, like just posting, you know, doing it for the gram, and then the contest series and the Olympics and it completely changed.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Growing up skate, we like skate videos. Now it's Instagram. Right? Like when's the last time you escape video actually came out on DVD or something?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Never.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, for real. We'll we'll get like a 13-minute part maybe on Thrasher, but that'd be like about the you know?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, like the Peacone Beer Series or whatever you called them. That was like the highlight of shit. Yeah, no, that shit was right as fuck. Fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Fuck all the time. Fuck you at a peace. That's that dude, man.

SPEAKER_07

All around coolest dude. Yeah. Yeah. It changed when he left.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, like fucking I mean, countless nights watching and re-watching videos over and over again. Just you know what I mean, just to get fucking inspired to wake up early and fucking try to go rip. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Try to load those videos overnight so you can watch them in the morning.

SPEAKER_08

Oh you gotta make sure you're one to take back before you fall asleep and shit.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. No, I I I I can't lie though. I do appreciate scrolling through Instagram and getting to see a bunch of rat ass clips from all around the world. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I'm so desensitized now. Yeah, yeah. I'm so desensitized.

SPEAKER_04

It's cool being able to see what's going on and just keeping it that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Like getting involved and like, dude, I don't I'm not using this as a form of fucking communication. Like, probably if I want to talk to you, you got my fucking number.

SPEAKER_02

Right? I feel you.

SPEAKER_04

Right? Or vice versa. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_08

It took me three months to get his phone number, but you know what we got there.

SPEAKER_04

No, you know what I mean, though? It's just like some fucking random dude on the other side of the country. Yeah, that's rad seeing what he's doing, but like I'm not trying to like fucking be his friend. Oh, hell no. You know, if I if I run across them, cool, yeah. Yeah, I'm not gonna follow you. I'm not gonna follow you, but I will like this one because probably be friends, but right now I don't know you. I don't really give a fuck.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, I definitely feel what you're saying, doc, kind of being desensitized. Yeah. Because man, now it's like the kids are getting younger and younger, and I'm like, okay, I've I've seen a fucking nine-year-old do 900. And like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04

It's like it's just like one 13-year-old boy did 1260 like some goddamn snowboard. Bitch, I'm trying to go to the park and do fucking frontside grind. You know what I mean? Like, like, like, well, yeah, this ain't even it.

SPEAKER_08

Fuck, I just want to push one more time, goddamn it. That's all I want.

SPEAKER_04

You're getting there. Yeah. Fucking rolling in's a fucking big trick. Yeah. Oh man.

SPEAKER_08

Now it's cool to skate. We gotta make fun of when we skate.

SPEAKER_04

We got murked on so hard, dude. Yeah. Gotta go to the park at sunrise so you can skate. Look what we created.

SPEAKER_02

Fucking dumb. We just want to be accepted. And then we are, and we're like, we don't want to be accepted. Make it illegal again. Take it back. Yeah, it's like uh the Olympics, man. I I can't remember. Who's who's someone we had on here said it. I can't remember who it was, but they were like, uh, the Olympics definitely needed skateboarding and surfing more than uh we needed them.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, it was um uh goddamn it, dude. Jake Come on. Come on, it was Jake.

SPEAKER_07

Jeff Grosso. Strickland. Yeah, Jake Strickland. Yep, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it was Jake Strickland up in uh Montana.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so what's Graham? Nice grab.

SPEAKER_08

It was lost. Yeah, no, no, no. I was I was looking at Paul, but I was like, No wonder you're fucking sweat. I can't remember our goddamn name. T shirt give a t shirt. I wrote seven poems since we've been sitting here, boys. All right. All right, let's hear him. What's the doc? Let's go. No. All right, see. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We've been talking

Break And Reset

SPEAKER_02

for about 40 minutes. We're gonna take a uh quick break and then we're gonna come back with you. Might uh play a couple games or something.

SPEAKER_08

Go call shirts get some blouses.

SPEAKER_06

It's another lonely evening. In another lonely town. But I'm too young to worry, and I'm too to cry when a woman gets me down. Got another empty bottle and another empty bed. Ain't too young to admit it. Nah, I'm not too old to lie. I'm just another empty head. That's why I'm low there. I'm so lonely.

SPEAKER_05

But I know what I'm gonna do.

SPEAKER_06

I'm gonna stand it on the edge of the road. I'm in the air. One of these days I'm gonna change my evil ways. So now just keep running out. Broken of the promise. Now broke another heart. But I injurially realize that I need you to try try to get back to the stud. And it's another red light nightmare. And I'm too old to hurry. Cause I'm too old to die, but uh sure I'm heartbeat. But I'm lonely. Going the wrong way. One of these days. One of these days.

Play Stupid Games Win Prizes

SPEAKER_02

You know, I got the doctor with me, and we're still sitting here with uh Dave from True East and the Murtiff Brothers. We uh Yes, sir.

SPEAKER_08

Salutations, my friends. Hi. Hi, how are you? Good morning. Good morning. Hello there, Sunshine.

SPEAKER_02

We like to uh play a couple games and we like to review a few things. Uh one little segment we do is called uh play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Um normally I set up my my computer, but since we don't really have space, uh we're just gonna kind of watch the videos off my phone and get a good laugh. But uh we'll run this real quick and uh It's time for everyone's favorite new segment, play stupid games, and you'll win stupid prizes, where we review videos and stories of people throwing caution to the wind and common sense out the window, resulting in pain, embarrassment, and tragedy. That's right. It's play stupid games, win stupid prizes, where fuck around meets find out. And uh I got a couple of good videos, um, in my opinion. Um this first one is Fuck Around Find Out. Yeah, where fuck around meets find out. Um so this first one, um, we can see here we got uh we got a cowboy in the beach. Sport. Okay. Sport, no, right? Yeah, he's from he's not from there, that's for sure. Rattlesnake. Oh no. So he's going in, he's trying to impress. I'll show y'all one second. And I got him. So where are we at? Here you go. So he's he's clearly trying to impress. He's like, I got my cowboy hat on. I know what I'm doing for people. My father raised a man. My father raised a man, this snake ain't shit.

SPEAKER_08

Well, to get the hook out of the back of the truck, that's too far of a damn walk, all right?

SPEAKER_02

Impressively, he did get him by the tail. Um and then he hesitated going in and got got. Yeah. So let me ask you this, fellas, are you the type of people that uh when you find a critter, you're gonna you're gonna joink it?

SPEAKER_03

I've been known to. Yeah. Um I dabble.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I dabble a little bit. Um I'm right there with you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll I'll fuck around with a snake. Yeah, for sure. I'd like this, this any day, this could be me, only I've just never been known to go in, touch it behind its neck, and not fucking grab it. Yeah, it's cool.

SPEAKER_04

You gotta you gotta you gotta commit on that one.

SPEAKER_08

It's fucking, you know, didn't y'all rope up a fucking uh a deer or some shit with a like an anchor?

SPEAKER_04

We did. We were we were we were deer rigging. Deer rigging? Deer rigging, yeah. Uh we were out at my place on the Suwanee River, and uh who was it? I think it was me and Mike Smith. Oh, it was Mike Smith. Tommy? That's a fucking good time. Tommy Jones. And uh and uh I Damon, we were on his boat and um there was a dead deer floating down the river and it got like caught up in a in a fall tree and it was just starting to stink, so we were like, and it was right at a spring hole that we hang out in. We were like, alright, we gotta get this thing out of here. So you know that thing had been pinned up in there for quite some time. So like initially, when we anchored, we our hook was our anchor, so we fucking we rigged it around the deer and like pulled the fucking skin off of it pretty much, and then like for the other half? My oldest daughter Emily, like jumped in the fucking river and like swam over to it and pretty much snatched up the fucking deer carcass and pushed it down the river. It's a lot.

SPEAKER_02

Fuck yeah. Some bitches want to be zombies raising them right. Yeah, yeah. Hell yeah. She's like, fucking back up, boys. I got this. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

All right, ladies. Y'all sit down for a little bit. You guys got enough on your hands. You gotta get you gotta operate this boat wasted.

SPEAKER_02

Um there's a good actual account that I follow called Bad Idea Boating, and you see a lot of uh people wasted boating accidents, especially coming in out of inlets when they're choppy, and some like chick is just on the front, like still like trying to get the sun, and she just gets flopped right off the deck. Yeah. Yeah. If you were not following, it's a good follow up.

SPEAKER_04

I just went uh scalabin't over in the golf two, three weeks ago with my buddy Dwayne Black from here, and uh yeah, it's just free fucking entertainment like that time of year. Just watching fucking waves. Amateur hour. Uh it's fucking awesome. Just the shit you see at the marina and uh on the dock is just like fuck, we should have just sat here. Why do we go swimming in a hundred degree water?

SPEAKER_08

Set maker.

SPEAKER_03

We'll see them before they get here to hit us. I'm just here for the fucking show, man.

SPEAKER_02

Well, uh, speaking of boating, this one doesn't have to do with the boat, but has to do with a marina dock. Um, we just got a guy out here, clearly looks like some tarpon, maybe. Oh no. And uh he's trying to catch him with uh hand line. I got it and he got yoinked the fuck in there and they busted in the face. Oh wow. Watch this, ready? And uh up for air and boom, eat this. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Out there, dude, out there in Swania, your place, dude, there was tarpon jumping through uh sturgeon through the room. All right, dude, I can't read or write. Don't do that to me, boys. Right things are scary looking. They're scary as shit, dude. They're fucking fucking prehistoric looking.

SPEAKER_02

Like medieval armored fish.

SPEAKER_08

I'm seeing them hopping in Julian Devons, like get in the water. No.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they I mean, how big do they get down here? I know like up north, like they get like six feet up there. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Didn't some sure didn't one hop out of the river when someone's on a boat and hit them and kill them down there?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, it it happens every couple years. Um they're that big, Paul. Five years ago, yeah. One one jumped, and you know, girl like eight years old, I think, was like just on the boat with her parents, and that you know, just the the right speed of the boat, and they just ran right.

SPEAKER_02

They're a bony, pretty bony fish, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, like full armor.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. It's like it's like it's like turtle shells, man. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, that's what I thought. They're pretty gnarly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. We were just down in the keys, and I was at that place Robbie's on Isla Murata, and I was hand feeding the tarpon off the uh the dock. They almost got my watch, though. Well, I misjudged that one a little bit. I was a couple of drinks deep, you know what I mean? I was getting a little grave out there. A couple of dackers.

SPEAKER_08

So a bitch tried to assassinate me because so this next one is uh pretty comical, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, what? So a guy trying to come for a fancy mount. Yeah, he was trying to rodeo mount that track. Trying to rodeo mount a horse and uh got bucked that's not how that's done. That's not the mule cat. Yeah. Surprisingly, this one didn't have a cowboy hat on. That's just a uh baby blue ball cap.

SPEAKER_08

Oh no, he shouldn't have done that. He was just a boy then.

SPEAKER_02

That's why the horse kicked him.

SPEAKER_08

You gotta get a bucket hat first, then you get the cowboy hat. We all know the rules. We all know the rules. And you all grew up riding horses?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, never had a sir. No, rode a couple as a kid, man, and just fucking, I think I was like just too much of a dumbass, like watching movies, like trying to kick them and shit. Fucking. Yeah, yeah, just getting wasted on, like kicked off of them, and yeah, they they actually scare the shit out of me. Did you ride?

SPEAKER_02

I had I had the opportunity like a couple of times to ride when I was younger, not like regularly, but I did live in Charlotte, North Carolina, well, just outside for like a year in between here and Pittsburgh, and I lived in the sticks. It was like Waxhaw, North Carolina. Okay. Um we lived on like 20 acres and that we were renting from this church that was next door. It used to be the pastor's house. That sounds creepy. One neighbor gross bred horses. One uh another like property had like cattle, and then another one was like a fucking chicken farm that depending on which way the wind was going, it smelled awful. But um smelled like home. Yeah. Had had friends uh that had horses, like you know, so I had the opportunity there. Nice. Yeah, had a buddy, Danny Dawkins, stayed night out at his granddad's house, and we went out fucking in the middle of the night or wandered up on these cows and shit like that, and that is a very intimidating thing. Like in the dark, you know they're like they're they're not gonna hurt you. Right, but it's just like they're still 1200 pounds, bro. Yeah, and it was just nighttime of something. He was walking around all country boy, like fucking, what are you doing, City Slick? Come out.

SPEAKER_04

You're out here shrooming.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man, no, this was before, but yeah, I've been out there. I was still a little too young for that.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I've been out there shrooming and fucking found a bull in front of me one time. Gross.

SPEAKER_02

Manderson, South Dakota.

SPEAKER_08

I think I know he was there, dude. You can't even see the horns.

SPEAKER_07

That's how they got around was horseback. Yeah. We got challenged to ride horses in Manderson, South Dakota. We were doing a park, and uh all the locals are like, yeah, ride a horse. No, sir. Yeah, just ride it. Yeah, ride a horse, I'm good on the reservation. So they're like, Yeah, that's what they do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so one of my favorite George W. Bush quotes of all time is Boy, you get on that horse, you better be ready to ride it.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_08

I never I never rode a horse, but I did ride a donkey once. Uh-oh. You jackass now. No. I was like seven, dude. It was all been adding to. I knew I knew nothing.

SPEAKER_02

So this one is uh clearly, you know, you fuck around, you're gonna find out. This is a scorned lover, I believe, trying to blow up her uh boyfriend's car. So she pours a bunch of gasoline in it. You might have seen this one. Uh but people forget that the liquid of gas is flammable, the vapor of gas is combustible.

SPEAKER_08

Boom! Wow. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

So there you go, fellas. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Look at that snap of the neck, dude. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, bro. We pissed off was that guy next to him.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Go. What's up with that?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, for the dating's about to leave in the back of her goddamn truck, dude.

SPEAKER_07

Got her.

SPEAKER_04

What's the insurance claim on that? It's called the Yo Fo. You call them up, like, yeah, this bitch uh fucking turned her car into a fucking cannon and blew her fucking neck back into my car. She's still. You're gonna have to come out here and scrape this shit off, man.

SPEAKER_08

There's a lot of brain matter.

SPEAKER_02

I got a funny story. Uh before I moved to Crafton, when we were first living up in Pittsburgh when I was really young, I lived in uh Manacca, which is a little bit more rural, not as suburban. And we had like right outside our basement was kind of like this little area that was held back by a concrete retaining wall, and these concrete steps went up. And that's where my dad's grill was, and we were cooking out this night, and he didn't have any lighter fluid, and so he was struggling to get the charcoal going. And so I saw him, he just took like a tiny cap of gas and he put it on the charcoal and he got the thing lit. But I was a little kid, I remember this very, very vividly. I was I was I was like kindergarten, maybe preschool age, wandering around down there, and I just wanted to help my dad out. I was like, fucking, we're grilling and chilling, dude. Let me light something up. So I was like, let me help him out. He only took a cap full of this, he might need more. So I took the cap off the tank, and this is the old like metal gas tanks, and I've and I've like move it about six or seven feet away from the charcoal, and we're just chilling, and my dad's like fucking back turned, and like he turns around, and I just remember watching the flame fly across the air and connect with the gas can and do exactly that. Go boom! And we're in this like small confined area. My mom's up the concrete steps with my little brother and my sister. She was pissed. Bro, she she thought we died. She knows I remember coming up to the top of the steps and my mom is screaming, running, oh my god!

SPEAKER_08

With the I gotta start our new family, I gotta start our new family.

SPEAKER_02

Bro, my dad had you know historically has had a mustache for most of his life, adult life, and that shit was burnt the fuck off. Like he had like no eyebrows, coiling his shirt, like I literally almost blew me and my pops up. And at that point, my parents should have known I was gonna be a problem.

SPEAKER_07

Were we all cooking?

SPEAKER_02

I don't remember that part.

SPEAKER_08

How many eggs did it take to make that dish?

SPEAKER_02

And then uh finally for our last video for uh play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

SPEAKER_08

Um god, dude, that was too good.

SPEAKER_02

This is a good one of uh someone tempting fate, I think in South America. Oh, yeah. That's a crocodile, not an alligator. Yeah, this guy gets lucky.

SPEAKER_08

Oh shit!

SPEAKER_02

Very lucky. Wow.

SPEAKER_08

So that's Taiwan, dude. That's gotta be Taiwan.

SPEAKER_02

Let you see this one. No, I think this is like brother. This is Taiwan, dude. Brother, they do. Brother, that's Taiwan. Oh, Costa Rica and stuff like that a lot.

SPEAKER_08

I know what Taiwan is and I know what they look like. That's a Yuli. Look at him, look at him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, that's a guy with a quick silver shirt.

SPEAKER_08

That's definitely Yuli. He's got a quick silver shirt on. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, man. They they they'll do that, you know, because it's like in Australia, they've got actually like regulated croc tours, like in the Northern Territory, where they'll take you on a fucking pontoon with like cage at least up the side. Somewhat regulated. Down in South America, they'll be like, oh no, my friend, my friend, I take you, we see, and then you get on this tiny little boat and shit like that.

SPEAKER_08

Hey, man, I didn't know I was getting on a canoe to ride this ride.

SPEAKER_02

It's like Pedro, you need to drive the boat back. Get back in the boat.

SPEAKER_08

Hey, I don't think that science says I'm regulation sized to be on this boat right now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

You ever been to Okie Fidoki?

Florida Wildlife And Transplant Mistakes

SPEAKER_07

Uh the swamp?

SPEAKER_08

I never I never went in the swamp.

SPEAKER_07

There's an alligator farm up there. My girlfriend and I were talking about it the other night. Like, they let you like alligators roam free, like huge ass alligators. Oh, you just get to go collect trips and stuff. Like thinking about it now, I was like, man, really? Don't stand close to the water, please. Yeah, it's like it's an architect.

SPEAKER_08

Alligator farm.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it's like if uh used to be able to go out to Payne's Prairie, the dike's been washed out now, so you can't really go as far in the dike. Okay. We've talked about this, Chris. I'm not talking about your mother. I'm talking about an elevator.

SPEAKER_08

Don't be a man tooth is a goddamn saint.

SPEAKER_02

He said the dike was washed out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Specifically, I just want to make sure I heard him correctly, dog.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you used to be able to walk like really far out into the prairie, and like you would just be a few feet from like some 10-foot gator, like a lot of them. Yeah. You know what I mean? But now it's washed out, you can't really walk as far. Hey there, fellas. There's people, you know, they'll they'll walk and they'll put their kid down and they'll be like, Oh, take a picture. Oh, that's fucking hard.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. And you know what? You better run zigzag, dog. Don't do it like that. You know what I want to know, man? Because they say the amount of like alligators kill here in Florida and shit. I want to know how many of those alligator kills are people that are not from Florida. Oh, a lot of them. I feel like that's the number we should all really be looking at. You're probably right.

SPEAKER_02

A lot of them. I mean, I I'm because of my job, I'm in a lot of people's houses that have recently transplanted, or this is a secondary home for me. Right. Yeah. And so I get into a lot of conversations with people and I just find out how ignorant they just are. And one, I mean, a lot of these they move down here and they think they know what bugs are. I don't know. You have no idea what bugs are.

SPEAKER_03

I mean we got something for you.

SPEAKER_04

You're gonna learn today. They make noises down here. So, bitch, we ain't even told the other ones to come out yet.

SPEAKER_08

We still got the swine flu happening down here.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. And that's what a lot of people, I'm like, man, we live in Florida. If if it's a fresh body of water, a brackish body of water, there's there's an alligator in there. Is it gonna mess with you right now, or is it necessarily exactly where you're you're on or on the bank? Right, yeah. Yeah, but there's there's one or more living in there.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah, they're in there. When I used to clean pools and shit, now I was out in Ponta Vidra all the time, and all like the neighborhoods of the golf courses and shit. Every one of them had about like fucking 16 gators just differently. You see them on all different sides. And then one day I saw this old lady walking her dog through the golf course, letting it go, bathroom all over like the golf course. Yeah, which I thought that was really weird and rude, but you know, dementia is a hell of a drug. Right. So I just I just see this gator start hightailing it her way, like from across, like where I was at, like on the water, uh cleaning the pool. Gator starts hightailing it that way, and she's got like a little chihuahua, which is just a snack at I mean I don't I don't know how what you feel about chihuahua, it might be dinner to you fellas, but it's a snack to others, and fucking dude. This fucking thing comes running out, dude, and scares the shit out of this old lady. And luckily, these golfers on a cart pulled up and started fucking throwing their golf clubs in the fucking with the cow. One's got one in his mouth trying to stop it, and the other one, I've seen that in Happy Gilmore too.

SPEAKER_04

That was right.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, no, no, no, no, no. I didn't say the eyeball got pulled out. The price is right out there. No, no, yeah, no, nobody's nobody's hands got took it, all right. I'm all worried about yellow flies. Oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, that sounds about right. They pissed me off.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've just got that. I'm like to the point too. I mean, I just like let them fucking go ahead and land on me because I'm gonna fucking kill you. Yeah. That's why I try to explain to my daughters because they'll just be like you can have a little blood, but I'm taking your life. Yep, exactly.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, if you let's go.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_08

One last move for the rest of forever. I'm going down with you, you little bastard. Those things hurt, dude. They hurt so bad when they bite you.

SPEAKER_02

So you got property out on the Swan,

Suwannee River Bowl And Rapids

SPEAKER_02

you said?

SPEAKER_04

I do. Um small town um south of Live Oak called Loraville, L-U-R-A. Um I don't even know if it's a big thing. I think there's like sixty residents there. But um, yeah, just back on the river.

SPEAKER_08

There's fucking high.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we built a bowl out there um in two different pores.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I can't remember. I think the first I think we built the first part, what, six years ago? I think the new I think the deep end's like four years old, right? Yeah. Yeah, it is, because it uh Frenchie Frenchie and Spiller for the decks when I was in Iceland.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah, 2019.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah, yeah, so we've had a bowl out there. Bought the property seven years ago. I think started building the first part of the bowl like a year in, and um we added on to it like four years ago, and I we're talking about um adding another section to it, probably this fall, start building it. Oh yeah, yeah. It's fun out there, man. Uh a lot of springs, a lot of spring. Yeah, you got your uh shit. Jones has been out there. Um but yeah, springs all around us.

SPEAKER_08

Um I about got swept away in the river behind the house when I was there last time. Yeah. Lindsay looked at me, she's like, I'm not gonna save you. Like, I don't know. Damn it, dude. I better not let go of this deck, dude, because I'm going.

SPEAKER_02

I actually uh I'm I'm on a mission too. I want to kayak the rapids at Big Shoals. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Gotta kayak. My wife's not down. Think I'm gonna try to get Joey in on it. Shit, dude. I'm like, no, he's gotta come with me. Somebody just filmed from the bank. No, I just put a dude.

SPEAKER_07

No, you make you demand.

SPEAKER_08

No, you make Joey sit in the front, dude, just in case. Yeah. And you gotta get a helmet with a fucking Go Coper or go or GoPro. Come on, man.

SPEAKER_07

I gotta speak to Benny Man, dude. God damn. Sound like me.

SPEAKER_02

So I'm like, man, if you did you wear a life jacket, you get tipped out, you float past, and then you fucking get back back in your boat.

SPEAKER_08

You sure you write poetry and do stand-up comedy? No, no, I'm not.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I heard uh uh Jonesy uh apparently is gonna get back to doing some uh comedy here.

SPEAKER_08

I've been hearing. Yeah, I got the phone call. I got I got the phone call from my dude Dean. He hit me up. Is this the black comedy club?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They want the white boy back.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, everybody's favorite comic's gotta come back, dude. Yeah. It fucking uh he was just like, hey man, what you been up to? And I was like, oh dude, well, I got a bone disease and like sat in a wheelchair for like the last three years and then finally got our kill the vibe. Well, no, that's just what it was. I mean, he never knew he was too busy, he was too busy doing the black clubs, dog. I mean, how is he supposed to know? And then he just goes, All right, man, you're coming back, right? I was like, Yeah, I'm coming back. He's like, just remember, I can't save you.

SPEAKER_02

Fair enough.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I know, I know the rules. I know the rules.

SPEAKER_02

Right? Better come correct.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. We'll leave my wallet at the house, dude. I can't buy a goddamn thing there. Bring some extra shirts. Chicken wings for fire, though.

SPEAKER_02

So earlier you guys were saying you were up uh somewhere building a park where is it, you're on a reservation?

Building Skateparks With Grindline

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, for Grindline in uh South Dakota. You were working for Grindline for a little bit? Yeah, we worked there for like three and a half, four years. Cool.

SPEAKER_02

Like anybody, any like real notable trips, stories, locations? They all were pretty.

SPEAKER_07

Like what I remember is very memorable. Yeah, it was a good time. Oh little Eddie. Little Eddie, Dave got. I was working with Dave at the time when he hooked it up and got us a job up there with Little Eddie, and that and we went, yeah, we definitely did skate park fence jumping for a while, worked with Team Payne, Pivot, some people, but yeah, good times. Hell yeah. We uh nice to be home now. Remember the trip we went to Mount Rushmore? Oh yeah, we uh oh sick. We we barely made it into it. We didn't even make it into it. We got pulled over by the cops. God damn right you did. Eddie was driving.

SPEAKER_04

It was 4th of July. He's normally good with that shit, though. Like he's got that dumb luck, like just pulls right through.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, the bad side on the left with that dash. Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. All got open containers. This is a good story. I could be wrong, but I think this might be the time to tell that story.

SPEAKER_02

I was about to say, yeah, elaborate.

SPEAKER_07

That was pretty much it.

SPEAKER_03

We started the day off. I mean, we were open containers, no dewy.

SPEAKER_07

But the containers were open for uh at seven in the morning. We probably got put over around five, so we were pretty lit up. Okay. Yeah, I was most definitely 21.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm gonna have to question that one.

SPEAKER_07

To be honest, I'm not your father, so I won't judge you.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, there's some good uh skate park building stories for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man, come on, boys, drop some drop some drop some knowledge. So what's the hold, what's the age difference between y'all? Three years. Three years. Okay, that's like my me and my brother. We're like three and a half. You the oldest? Uh I'm the middle but the older of the boys, yeah. Yeah. My my sister is the oldest.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we've been together. We're a package deal. Yeah. Okay. You don't get one without the other. Yeah, yeah, we're starting to break up now since we get older, but it's been tough. No, because you both have girlfriends and stuff, dude. Yeah. Trying to live life.

SPEAKER_08

Like, shit, nigga, I'm trying to get my swerve on too. Damn.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, my brother and I were kind of like that for a long time, but then we ended up kind of going our separate ways. He's a professional bodybuilder. Nice. And he's very, very successful at what he does. But if you would have told me when I was 16 and he was 13 that my brother would be fucking 250 pounds, solid as a motherfucker, not an ounce of fat on him, scary as a motherfucker doesn't have to be spray tanned in a speedo. Oh wow. I would have been like, what the fuck? But hey, big props to him, man. He uh yeah, he he's he does his thing. Yeah, for sure, man. He wakes up, he he trains clients, he trains pros that compete, and so that's his whole life.

SPEAKER_08

But my little brother works in health insurance.

SPEAKER_02

Really? That's it. I was wondering.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I know. That's it.

SPEAKER_04

You got these siblings, Dave? I do. I got an older brother. He's uh two and a half years older.

SPEAKER_02

He had did he uh grow up skating and stuff too?

SPEAKER_04

He no, he didn't skate. He got his first skateboard and I took it over. Like this is pre-like actually buying a you know, like a super 70s narrow fucking little sidewalk surfer style, you know, whatever board, fucking like the pro lines that were made here. If you've ever seen those, like that shape, like uh you know, just like got one at a department store, um got it for his birthday one year and fucking uh started riding down the hill in front of our house eating shit, and I just took it over and then I you know it was kind of like a toy for a while, and then we like started skateboarding. Oh yeah. But uh yeah, my brother uh he he got me into punk rock and um uh he's he's pretty fucking successful. He does like um the county we grew up in in Pennsylvania is called Dauphin County, and he does like uh all the safety fucking dispatch to you know fire police. Oh yeah, yeah, like the non-camera shit. Yeah, like uh the whole safety deal. They can't, you know, the the street cameras, fucking all that type of thing.

SPEAKER_02

A vital job in our current world. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

He he he's he's definitely got his shit together, way more than so he's snitching, is what you're saying.

SPEAKER_02

All right, all right. Yeah, it's like Dr. Jones was crossing the intersection at 509, man. That's not a bitch was jaywalking.

SPEAKER_04

No, he just dude's down, he'd be like, oh, that's one of Dave's book.

SPEAKER_08

Just riding by the camera. Ah, that shit's gone.

SPEAKER_03

That shit's gone.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I I had a skateboard living up in Pittsburgh, but it was one that my cousin, who lived in South Florida, gave to me. My dad's originally from South Florida. And uh, so my cousin grew up surfing and stuff and skating. So had one from him, but we lived in a our borough had cobblestone streets, man. There really was nowhere for us to skate. We had this funeral home that we would bomb the hill on, but that was literally the extent of my skating until I moved to Florida. Um but we were always doing crazy fucking shit. Like we were building, like I said, we had the Buckeye Wars when snow days, we were making our own bobsled tracks. Yeah, I even made my own homemade parachute.

SPEAKER_08

And uh what the fuck were you jumping off of?

SPEAKER_02

Do you like me, bro? And I convinced my brother that he was smaller than all of us, so he should be the one to jump off the balcony.

SPEAKER_04

Oh god, dude, dude. See, we were doing a game. We were doing awesome shit.

SPEAKER_02

Like fucking, it was awesome at the time. Well, we were like, we were like until he hit the ground. Six compound fructures later.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and then I was in trouble. We were like running into the bar like stealing pool balls off the table and shit, and like packing them in snowballs and throwing them through the city bus windows and shit.

SPEAKER_02

Like, like really doing fucking uh that was more my vibe when I moved it to Jacksonville. I was fucking shit up once I moved.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, my older brother was the one that got me into skateboarding, and fucking one night we went to the post office and like hopped over the fence to skate the back of it, and he broke both of his fucking ankles at the same time. Oh, yeah. So we had to get him back over that 12-foot fence and all the way back home. Both of them at the same time, same goddamn time, dude. I'm like 12, like, I got you, bud, I got you. He's 15, just fucking like dude, I stood no chance.

SPEAKER_04

I was trying to be a good little brother though. We used to uh Pittsburgh was great. You know, the hill situation there, uh fucking old tires and shit. We would take those and go carbowling and shit. You know, carbowling. It was a good way to time the lights out, man. So we would time lights out and fucking push, you know, roll a tire down there, and we'd figure out the lights for fucking bombing hills. Fuck yes. Yeah, yeah. I like it. And then at the same time, you could carbowl. You know, like uh y'all, dude, a tire hitting the just fucking T-bone in a car door is like fucking beautiful. Dude, it's fucking awesome.

SPEAKER_08

Oh dude, over a monument in Hidden Hills and shit, over the golf course and the tennis court, we'll go get golf balls and tennis courts all throughout the fucking thing. And we just used to huck them over the fence at cars and shit driving by.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, god damn, dude. Oh, god damn. Them dude, they're so fucking everybody would always get chased by the cops eventually, but like it would always like you get at least seven in. You got a solid seven in before it really became a problem.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, we used to drive around throwing firecrackers out the car windows. Got shot at once.

SPEAKER_08

Not lying. That was just a firecracker. That was just a firecracker, dog.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we were we were in uh in a in a buddy's car and uh they continued to chase us, and then there was a bullet hole in the back of his fucking truck, and we were like, This shit just really real. It's like we're playing around, sir. Dems were jokes. He was like, We were kidding, sir.

SPEAKER_08

They're black bottle rockets. Dims was jokes, motherfucking goddamn.

SPEAKER_02

Oh man, but then you become an adult and then you like own shit, and then you kind of understand. You're like, yeah, I was a shithead. That was probably warranted.

SPEAKER_08

Better not get in my goddamn yard, dude.

SPEAKER_04

Hey, when you were when you were little growing up, did they like collect the leaves? Back spurves? Yeah. So like where where I grew up, you just like we would rake them all onto tarps, and then we'd drag them out to this to the street.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And like, whatever, during the fall, like every Tuesday, the the the fucking leaf collector would come around and suck your leaves up, and that's how they got rid of all the leaves. Well, the cool thing to do is just fucking burn through all the leaf piles, you know. It's like you're 16, you're like, yeah, I'm dusting these fucking leaf piles. So, like, so like we would do it to everybody else's house but ours. Like, of course. And we would always I had some big ass maple trees and shit. My dad kept the yard pretty tight, so he would fucking pile these motherfuckers up like six foot tall, like you couldn't even park in front of like as long as your yard is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You know, width wise, you couldn't park cars. It was just straight leaf. So he would put evil can you put cinder blocks in them bitches. Oh yes. Because he was like, you know, you guys can go dust everybody else's shit. Let's just not dust ours. Because then you're re-ranking them back up, whatever. Dude, this motherfucker came and tried to sell our leaf pile and fucking straight up cased his dad's car on it and like got so scared from the noise. You just heard it. We were sitting in there watching TV. It was just like, it sounded like a car going about 20 miles an hour, fucking dusting a fucking leaf box. You know, maybe 30 miles an hour. And so the kid fucking stopped, and while he was sitting there, he sat there too long and his engine was hot, and like he his fucking the leaves caught on fire underneath his fucking car. Oh, it was fucking great. That's fucking hilarious. Yeah, it was great. God damn, that's an A man. Didn't really ignite, you know, but his whole shit was smoking. He was like, What the fuck's going on? We were just sitting in there watching them, dude.

SPEAKER_02

Bro, you don't get stories like these anymore because all the kids are too glued to fucking a screen. Yeah, yeah. No, everybody's too busy. I send somebody this message.

SPEAKER_04

I was yeah, we were always outside, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Like, I love your fucking dad putting the cinder blocks in there because that would definitely be some shit that I would do. Oh, yeah, I I I've done what y'all are gonna do. So fucking do everything.

SPEAKER_03

Don't go dusting Dave's leaf piles, man.

SPEAKER_08

Some bitch just tried to deliberate her junior or shit, Dodd.

SPEAKER_02

That's fucking great. Yeah, fun times. Hell

Is It A Sport Or Not

SPEAKER_02

yeah. So uh I think we're gonna uh play a little game that we like to play called Is It a Sport essentially.

SPEAKER_08

Um shit on now.

SPEAKER_02

Oh put the co-ho shit on heist. Um so my dad growing up, he played all the team sports. I did too. Um, but he was like baseball, basketball, football, all that kind of stuff. And all his friends that golfed, he basically called them pussies. He was like, it's not a real sport. If, you know, so it's all if you don't break a sweat a sweat, like if your cardio is not up, if you can't pull a muscle and you can't break a bone, then it's not a sport. He's like, it's a game. So with that in mind, I kind of used that uh criteria to to make a a little segment called Is It a Sport?

SPEAKER_01

Is it a sport? Or is it a game?

SPEAKER_00

You break the flight, and you break a bow, a bone.

SPEAKER_01

Is it a sport? Is it a game? Is it a game?

SPEAKER_08

Well, well, well, we have everybody's new favorite game out here. It's called Is It a Sport? Fellas, we got three beautiful young contestants here with us today. We have uh what's your name? You know it. Anyways, uh Travis. All right. And we got Devin. You know it. You know it, motherfucker. That looks so intimidating. I'm pretty sure he's about to punch me when we walk out of the front door and dude, right in the hip bone. Could be wrong. You know it. Yeah, he's charging extra on the next job I ask him about. I can feel it right now. And then we also have Dave Livhart with us. All right, and I am your fabulous host that you all love to learn to respect. Dr. Jones. All right, now here's what it is. I am here always with my lovely co-host here. His name is Polly. Hello. All right, that's all we're gonna get. All right, now, boys, here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna play Is It a Sport, and we will start with a first.

SPEAKER_02

The criteria has been explained. Yes, the criteria has been explained. So we're gonna. However, this is open to your own interpretation.

SPEAKER_08

Beer pong, boys. No.

SPEAKER_02

No. No. It's not a sport, Jonesy. No, it's a great game. It's a great game. It's a great fucking game. It's a wonderful game, especially if you're, you know, anywhere from like 17 to 24. Yes. It's a wonderful social game. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

The low dive.

SPEAKER_02

The low dive. No.

SPEAKER_08

We're not doing high dive, we're going low. Come on, fellas.

SPEAKER_07

You gotta work your way up somehow, right? You can't triple lend it, so no. No, if Tommy James can't do a gainer, I'll love it. It's not a sport. Oh, he can low dive it. He can low dive it. Yeah, you know what?

SPEAKER_04

Country can do some work on a low dive. Uh he's a fucking athlete. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So uh yeah, we just talk ourselves into it being a sport. Uh money.

SPEAKER_08

Women's water aerobics.

SPEAKER_03

Uh gotta love his creativity.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely not. No. What are you kidding me? Women competing in a sport, not happening. No, I I don't.

SPEAKER_08

All right, okay, okay, all right, boys. Hey, I'm just an idea man.

SPEAKER_02

Isn't that more of an exercise?

SPEAKER_04

It's more of a sport to watch.

SPEAKER_02

It's a sport to watch, depending on the shape of the women, but I like that.

SPEAKER_08

They put it in the Olympics, boys. Well, that's a whole nother discussion. What is it? I missed it. The water aerobics. Women's water aerobics. All right, the special Olympics 40 yard meter dash. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

100% like a 10-4. Absolutely. Special Olympics. It's a sport.

SPEAKER_08

Time's coming up, boys, so we better be ready. What you got next? Hang gliding. No, no, no. Hang gliding is Travis. Hold on, hold on. Travis. You're not going hand gliding? No. Have you ever been hang gliding? The fuck I look like I'm a land creature, dude.

SPEAKER_02

We explained this earlier about surfing. I haven't, but I would totally fucking go. Would you? Given the opportunity, fuck yes. Yeah, I would try it. I've been skydiving once. I've done bungee jumping once. I'm fucking hang gliding. Let's go.

SPEAKER_07

I'm a tad bit afraid of heights. I am too, dude. Yeah. No hand gliding for you.

SPEAKER_04

I think I'd probably give it a run. Yeah. Like get some good photos, you know, for the fans. Yeah, I would tell you. If you can get a photo hang gliding with a cigarette in my shit.

SPEAKER_08

What about the squirrel suits?

SPEAKER_02

The squirrel suits.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, dude.

SPEAKER_02

I would have to get uh plenty more uh skydiving in under my belly.

SPEAKER_08

I promised myself I'd never go skydiving unless I'm tripping on acid. That's the only way I'm going.

SPEAKER_02

No, dude, it's I recommend it to aside from watching my kids come. Into this world. It's one of the single most greatest experiences of my life.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but I think with the with the acid, I think with the acid, though, it would taught my kids.

SPEAKER_02

I could be wrong. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Take it to that next level. I could be wrong. Alright, fellas, we are down to our very last one, and it is now time for everybody's favorite one. I am once again your host on this lovely Saturday morning, Dr. Jones, in our last Is It A Sport? Skateboarding.

SPEAKER_07

No. No. No. Hard now.

SPEAKER_08

And you get to hear first, people. Skateboarding is not a sport.

SPEAKER_07

Olympics.

SPEAKER_08

All you skate coaches can eat a dick. What's your thoughts, Chris? My thoughts? No, it's not a sport, dude. You hesitate. It's not well, no, I don't because I don't think it's a game either.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's an athletic activity. It definitely you have to be able to get a lot of people. I think it's the most athletic activity. Athlete to, you know, in some form fashion. I mean, I'm a prime example of a hand. You know, you know what I mean? Oh yeah. So it's like these are all attributes that, you know, ESPN talks about they're coveted in professional athletes. So to say it's not a physical sport or you're not athletic if you skate would be ignorant in my personal idea.

SPEAKER_08

I am the definition of athletics because look at my fat to m muscle bone ratio.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, just I but I think it's kind of like one of those things. I mean, if you personally want to say that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_02

I know, dude. That's why I had to get the the because I'm long and skinny, man. I can't have a belly shirt.

SPEAKER_08

I'm just walking around tubbing it, dude.

SPEAKER_02

Don't put it in the dryer.

SPEAKER_08

Like, dude, I'm just yeah. What do you think I'm gonna have to put it in, dude? Just a washer and hang out in my backyard like it's still 1923 or some shit.

SPEAKER_02

I literally have to do that with all my t-shirts, otherwise, they won't fucking fit. I had to give this to my daughters once I'm done.

SPEAKER_08

This isn't even my shirt anymore. I can tell you.

SPEAKER_02

Tall and skinny sucks.

SPEAKER_04

No, yeah, to me, it's just not as I don't think everybody's opinion is different on that. To me, it's never been about the competitive side of it, which I think is like really what defines a sport as we know. Right. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Like most of the most of the contests you see, all of the competitors up there are hyping each other up, hugging each other, dapping each other up, whatever. You don't see that in baseball, any other like actual competitive sport. You literally are like, once the clock's running, you're the enemy. Right. Right.

SPEAKER_08

China's not high five in Michael Phelps. Yeah. China is not high five in Michael Phelps after a race. I guarantee that. But I think the main thing with skateboard. I said I'm pretty sure China's not high five in Michael Phelps after a race. But I think with like skateboarding, it's like there is

Skate Coaches Social Media Olympics

SPEAKER_08

no coaches. If you want to get good at it, it that comes from the United States.

SPEAKER_02

Now that it's in the Olympics, there's a lot of skate coaches. And that's actually what they got to ask y'all about. I mean, have you have you noticed the uh plethora of social media? Yeah. Bro. Well, okay, so I haven't logged on to Facebook. I haven't logged on to Facebook in a long time, and I just did for the first time in like seven or eight years. And I went in my inbox and there's all these fucking messages from random people that I don't know. And I don't even know why they're messaging me because they're from all over the fucking world. You know, last time I was on, I was managing Kona, running the skate camp, blah, blah, blah. A lot of my content was skateboarding me, helping kids. So all these people, are you a skate coach? Are you a skate coach? I'm looking for a skate coach. And I'm like, I'm in Irvine, California. My name's Millie. I'm like, what the fuck? Like, no. Right, but right. Yeah. But but there are people out there this day and age that are marketing themselves as a skate coach because the now that it's in the Olympics, the families that the dads or the moms didn't grow up skating or know nothing about it, they're like we can make money off this. Well, and that's gonna get us out of this poverty. I think some of it is innocent, just like, oh, my kid's showing interest, I want to be a good parent and support them in it. I think a lot of it is that, and then being ignorant and like, what do I do? We need to get them approached.

SPEAKER_04

Like, well, you we're looking at it as skateboarders. So for me, it's like my kids were around skateboarding, so they started skateboarding. Me too. They didn't, it was just like no pressure, no pressure. Hey, you know, oh wow, she just fucking dropped in. You know what I mean? Like, okay, that's what she grew up watching people do. So from that point of view, I'm like, yeah, man, like my kids would have been bummed if I was like, yo, you're going to fucking skate coach now. They would have been like, what? We're not hanging out with fucking Uncle Devin and Travis, you know what I mean? Like, those dudes, those dudes can fucking drink 12 beers and skateboards, you know? Like or whatever. Like, they they weren't like, yes, but I understand too, like, there's the people that aren't from uh like you know, part of what we're part of, and if their kids showed interest and the parent was cool, they would try to find them a hand to fucking boost them along, which really to me, like okay. If you want to be a skate coach, I get it. You gotta you got your clientele are the people that we're talking about, but for me to like get it, it's like no like drop them off and have them hang out with the fucking thing.

SPEAKER_02

There's no ethic target like that. Well, yeah, no pads. When I was teaching lessons and doing the skate camps, like some of the kids would come there, oh coach Paul. I'm like, no, you call me Paul. No, they call you. You call me Paulie.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you shouldn't have worn those goddamn basketball shorts from the 70s if you didn't want them to call you that. So the coach's shorts.

SPEAKER_02

That's right. Don't make me get my whistle. You know?

SPEAKER_04

Um some fucking tight ass OPs or whatever.

SPEAKER_02

But just growing up, like skateboarding, I always approached it more as like, I'm not uh your fucking coach, I'm not even your teacher, I'm just kind of like your mentor and skateboarding. I want I want you to get comfortable being at the skate park so then you can then move on and get as much out of it as well.

SPEAKER_04

That's what it was for me, like for my kids or with any of my friends' kids, hey, let's go skate. Yeah, you know what I mean? And they they start, I mean, they start skating the shit they want to skate, they start doing the tricks they want to do. If you you know, and by not having I I mean, look how broad skateboarding is. How can how can if you're really coaching a kid how to do it, how could you just be like, yeah, this one dude's gonna fucking show you how to do it. Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_08

Which brings me to my next point, boys. For $45.99 a month. Uh I will be your skate coach extraordinaire. Dr. Jones, I will teach you everything you want to know. Take a question, ask it, tell me about a trick. Say, you guys say any trick. I got you. I don't get paid enough for this, but I do this for y'all. Anyways, boys, continue. My bad. That's why that's our first sponsor for probably on the pod.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. Dr. Jones, skate coach.

SPEAKER_08

I will not teach impossibles.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, but will you teach pressure flips? No. Well, yeah, the dolphin flip, too.

SPEAKER_08

Dolphin flip. No. Word. You that's that's a level of Benny Hannes?

SPEAKER_02

Benny Hannes? No. Oh, man.

SPEAKER_08

You do have the Benny. You learn one foot of tail grabs. I can do Benny Hannes.

SPEAKER_02

I'll teach you one foot of tail grabs. I will not teach you the Hannah But like Wild Man would fucking had a mean Benny Hanna.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_08

He's sprawled out. He's not a part of this company. It was a three-track.

SPEAKER_02

Two or three. Broke. Uh I think maybe two. I remember Carl Landon. Shout out to him. Did you know Carl? Oh, yeah. I did. Yeah, man. He fucking ripped uh fucking going from the bowl into the freestyle, that gap. Gameway gap. Yeah. I think I like I've never seen another skateboarder do it. I've seen inline guys do it. I've never seen another skateboarder do it. But he would do backside melon threes over two fucking trash cans, melons out over three trash cans. Like, yeah. That was back in the launch pad. The flyout days, yeah. When the gazebo was there. Yeah. And it was literally, it was like the janky little street course up on top of the snake, and then everybody would be in line. Bull, bull next, roctor, and just fly outs all fucking day. Holy shit. Every time I hear uh Jane's addiction, Jane said it reminds me of that era because the CD was always like in there and it would come on, and I'm like, didn't we just fucking hear this? I hated it when I was younger, but now when I hear it, it's like fucking nostalgia. I'm like, this reminds me of 1998 doing flyouts out of the fucking.

SPEAKER_04

See, I'm gonna I'm gonna play reverse card on that. I'll just start being like, yeah, fucking that I hate that fucking song, so I can't go there.

SPEAKER_08

You know what? You know what? I'm gonna I'm going down with this one, dude. I heard fucking Smashmouth's All-Star the other day at his store. Dude, I was damn near pushing denim, dude. I was fucking, I was so happy.

SPEAKER_02

Where's my Jenkos? That guy, that he's one of them uh that's had some pretty famous on-stage uh fiascos. The guy from Smashmouth. He's like apparently crazy, like raging alcoholic, and there's been a couple times to do this.

SPEAKER_08

Sounds like a good hang, dude.

SPEAKER_02

I've seen several videos over the years of like him performing at like some fucking county festival. You know what I mean? They went from stadiums to like now county festivals, and someone would be like, boo, play Trek, you suck! And then he's like, Oh, fuck you, and like throwing his beer at him in the crowd and getting off the stage of Chillo's like, damn, goddamn, my dad's killing it, dude.

SPEAKER_08

That's I'm so proud to hear that. Pops is doing all right. That's your dad. I don't know, man. It might be wishful. It's a good possibility, dog. That's just still up in the wind. We're still trying to find out. But a boy can dream, right? All right. And a boy's dream. And a boy's dream.

SPEAKER_02

All right. Well, shit. We've been uh talking for like another 45 minutes. Jones, do you got anything else you want to chat with the boys? Um actually, hold on, I had a

Building Overseas And Loving Japan

SPEAKER_02

question real quick.

SPEAKER_08

You know what?

SPEAKER_02

By all means. Before I forget.

SPEAKER_08

By all means.

SPEAKER_02

I heard you talk about going to Iceland. Yeah. Where else have you all ever been out overseas anywhere international?

SPEAKER_07

Uh no, not I went to Puerto Rico, but that's never have. I mean, that's a kind of. Yeah. No, not overseas like that. No. Yeah. Never out of the stuff. I've been all over.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I mean, what are you what are your thoughts? Because the hell is that? Obviously, I don't know. What are your thoughts on like life abroad versus life here? I've been a couple places where I've been like, yeah, it would be an adjustment, but I'm like, I could fucking live here. It's beautiful here. Yeah. But then I've been to other places where I'm like, it's beautiful here. I really like visiting. You couldn't fucking pay me to live here.

SPEAKER_04

Right. No, yeah. I I think we're uh I mean, I wouldn't want to not live here. Yeah, you know, comparatively to the places I've been, which I've been fucking Iceland, Japan, all over Central America, fucking West Indies, all you know, a lot of islands.

SPEAKER_02

And was this all for like building shit? Or skating?

SPEAKER_04

Um almost all of it was for building shit. Hell yeah. Yeah. Japan, um, I designed this guy, a swimmer skater. He was an English guy, married a Japanese girl, and uh that's a dream. Yeah, yeah. He was he he like uh dude like uh made apps and then sold them to big companies. And uh yeah, he got a hold of me and um I designed him a swimmer skater, and he ended up just saying, No, I'm not doing a swimmer skater now because I bought the property beside mine and I'm just doing a swimming pool in the yard and a skateboard bowl in the other yard, which there's availability, you know, there's skate parkers in Japan and there's you know pool builders in Japan, there's just not people with the experience to combine them both.

SPEAKER_02

And um, I heard like there's a whole like Japan, like they really kind of like the whole skate, like motorcycle fucking culture, like oh for yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it's a killer place, man. And if you snowboard, really good snowboard in there. Um yeah, just just clean fucking, you know, everybody seemed really cool. I watch a lot of cartoons, so I'll fit in overseas. That's probably my favorite place. That's what I was about to say. Like overseas, um, like whatever. Central America just doesn't do it for me. Like, that's like going to fucking hotter Florida.

SPEAKER_08

Like, yeah, fuck this. It's I get it, they built the pyramids. I'm out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no. Um Yeah, my wife went to uh Nicaragua like two years ago, like did a little retreat, and uh that's what she was like, yeah, it was really similar weather to here, it's just hot and muggy, and just other there's monkeys in the trees instead of squirrels. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's how you know, and it it's I was in Japan, I think, in June, and it was hot, it was humid as fuck. But like there's also you know, mountains that you can get to like within a hundred miles and like change elevation drastically, yeah, yeah. Like like big time and just being cooler weather, you know. Like, what do we gotta do? We gotta drive to North Carolina, yeah. You know, like yeah, for real. So yeah, that that part of it was cool, the culture's cool. Um, you know, not nearly as much as now. I think that was 2016 I was there, but like skateboarding wasn't as big there as it is now. You know, like it's like fucking crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Well, now that it's in the Olympics, all the foreign countries are like fucking investing hugely.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, like I mean, you know, there were I I found some parks, like I was I was staying in Osaka, but there was shit around just like okay, there's there's a killer, you know, half-ass indoor fucking Masonite Park or whatever. You know, like I'm in Japan, dude. Like, I'm not gonna go skate that bullshit. I'm gonna go see I'm gonna go see where like fucking, you know, like this killer Buddhist monk, like crazy architecture, just badass shit. That you're not, you know, I can go see a shitty skate park like anytime I want to, dude.

SPEAKER_08

I'll go to Dolphin Cove if I want to see a shitty skate park.

SPEAKER_02

Are you are you the uh type of traveler to really like kind of immerse in the culture and try to like all the food and kind of that stuff or fucking the food up?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, like yeah, like yeah, whatever you're throwing at me, I'm gonna try it. Um because why I don't know, sure.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like I'm like on that Anthony Bourdain shit. Like if you don't fucking why are you traveling there if you're not gonna like immerse yourself in the shit that they like lit how they live and like what they do and yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Go into like yeah, and and like I don't understand like probably the the language most of the time when I'm in those places, but like it's just funny. Like I I was I was I was traveling a lot just like going and checking out shit by myself, and um it's just funny. Like I would purposely just like walk through neighborhoods and shit and just like check shit out, just see like these dudes like with these wood craft shops just making shit and like little old ladies fucking sweeping the street, everything's immaculately clean, you know what I mean? It's fucking crazy, and like the music they're listening to, you're like, man, I I definitely can't understand the words they're saying, but gotta be the no, but this shit still really sucks, you know what I mean? Like whatever they're saying, if they were saying it in like something I could understand, it would still suck. Cause like whatever, like the you know, it just and then and then you go into other neighborhoods and they're listening to the same shit we're listening to. It's it's just funny, man. Checking shit out. They're dancing, they're dancing to that other bullshit music kind of thing. In decorative fucking clothing and shit. You're like, oh shit, I just walked into something. So bitch, that's a real dragon on the street right now. Oh shit.

SPEAKER_08

Is it is it Chinese New Year? I'm worried about fucking alligators.

SPEAKER_04

This motherfucker's got dragons, King Kong and shit.

SPEAKER_08

Godzilla.

SPEAKER_02

Oh,

Where To Find Everyone
