SPEAKER_00

If you're new to our From the Pasture podcast, this is one of our special pre-sale episodes. Our regular shows feature ranch stories, breeder interviews, and cattle knowledge. But today we're focusing specifically on this weekend's Texas Longhorn sale.

SPEAKER_01

So if you're wanting to learn more about Texas Longhorn Cattle Markets or you're a registered Texas Longhorn breeder looking to expand your herd, you'll want to tune in to today's episode.

SPEAKER_00

I'm Jamie. And I'm Molly. We're the owners of Hired Hand Software and Hired Hand Live, and we're excited to bring you a closer look at this upcoming sale. In today's episode, we'll be talking with the sale host about consignments, sale details, and what to watch for in the ring. You can view consignments at hiredhandlive.com and in most cases, visit the consigners' hired hand powered websites to learn more. Now let's jump into this weekend's sale preview.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm here with Chase Fasut, one of the sale hosts for the upcoming Texas Longhorn Legacy sale, which is held in Greatvine, Texas. Chase and I will be talking about the sale details, the sponsors, the consigners, and of course the consignments. As we talk about the consignments, you can follow along on HiredHandLive.com and if you want to dig deeper, take a look at the consigners' Hired Hand websites. Let's get to it. Well, hey Chase.

SPEAKER_02

Hey Jamie, how are you today?

SPEAKER_01

I'm doing pretty good. How about yourself?

SPEAKER_02

Ready for legacy.

SPEAKER_01

Um so you've been working on the legacy sale for many, many months. Um when did you officially receive your first consignment for this year?

SPEAKER_03

Oh normally Dale Hunt does it the night of the sale. He held out and waited a few weeks this time. Um man, I I think it was probably the sale was in March, around April was when the first consignment started rolling in. Um and then, you know, we're already planning on 2027 consignments.

SPEAKER_01

So people have already committed to 2027.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, yeah. And there's calves that are I've I mean being born now that are in talks for it. So it's a lot of fun. Yeah, we do have our first 2027 consignment already committed.

SPEAKER_01

That's cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_01

So let's so let's talk about younger Chase. When you look back to when you started with the Legacy Group, which was then the TLMA, um, you were a much younger Chase. What did you think or feel when you were first asked to help with one of the biggest sales in the industry?

SPEAKER_03

I I was really excited. So my first legacy would have been in 2012, I think. So yeah, 20 or 14 years ago. Um and yeah, I was in the TLMA. I was selling ads at the time, and you know, Wes had called and said, We need some help up here. And uh my first legacy I helped at was the first one I ever went to. So it was a lot of fun. Um, you know, obviously a cow sale and a hotel and a ballroom and just seeing all the logistics behind what made it go off was was a lot of fun. So um had no idea then we'd be doing it 14 years later, but um, I was really excited and more excited each year after year.

SPEAKER_01

Did you have longhorns prior?

SPEAKER_03

I I did. I did. So for a few years, um, we raised them and kind of like anybody, we got in and you know, found a few events, and I heard about this sale in a ballroom and um you know, for the first year watched the legacy and heard about it, and then I think it was about three years in the Longhorns that I went to my first one.

SPEAKER_01

Did you fully understand what you were signing up for when you were said yes? Let's go.

SPEAKER_03

Not at all. Not at all. Looking back now, still had no idea that that would have led to this, but um, I'm thankful for it.

SPEAKER_01

I've been able to um make my living in the Longhorn industry, and it all started with I guess that first sale going to Well, this year is the legacy, it um officially enters its third decade, with this being the 21st year.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So when I was thinking about the sale, I thought, well, like the first decade of the legacy sale was about building and establishing the sale, you know, setting a good foundation for the sale. The second decade was maybe about showing consistency for the consigners and for the buyers and then setting a ton of records. Now that we've entered the third decade, what do you think are some of the new records that will be set?

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, um, I mean, you know, everybody's chasing the I mean, can$700,000 be beat? Um, you know, nobody thought 120 could be beat, then Danica came along, then Rosette. So I mean, that that's a big record that, you know, will it ever get passed? I honestly don't think. Um, you know, as far as legacy records, you know, attendance, consigners from different states, the amount of people that we bring in are the the ones I like to see. Um that always goes hand in hand with the great event. But yeah, it's third decade. Um it's it's been a fun run. And I there there's probably a few other consistent sales. I know that like the B and C it's I think that's the truly longest running Longhorn sale.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I want to say they're close to 50, if not at 50.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, it's it's it's amazing to see. But for something to is especially as up and down and all over the board with you know the turnover of members that our industry has for something to stick around this long. Um I I guess shows it's special. It's a lot of fun to work on with new breeders. And there's some guys that are gonna be here this weekend that it's their 21st legacy to be at. Um, and some it's their first. So it's gonna be it's a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_01

Well, should we dive into the schedule of the events and talk about Thursday?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, absolutely. Um so this year again, uh, you know, we're at the Embassy Suites and Grapevine. Uh, we've been there a number of years. The hotel staff's great, they accommodate us well. Um, Thursday, the cattle start arriving. Um, 10 a.m. up till about 8 p.m. Um you can bring them there. Uh tentatively, right now, it looks like great weather. You know, March in North Texas, you never know. Um, so we're praying for sunny skies. Um, cattle arrive all day, and then this year, Thursday, we like to do something fun and special because everybody's got to be there. Um, Randy Murray at New Age Cattle Company and Mac and Andrea Siller at Solar Longhorns are sponsoring the welcome party. And we figured since it's the 21st anniversary, we should do a casino night for blackjack. So we're gonna have, I think it's eight or nine blackjack tables, roulette, craps, uh, digital slot machines for John Randolph. Um, you know, they'll have drinks, everybody's kind of hang out and do some fun little um gambling, some honey money. Um, it kind of gets everybody in the mood. Then Friday we dive into the actual sale starting at noon. We're gonna do our legacy futurity, uh, which is all the heifers in the entire heifer heifer sale are in one class. So we've got five judges coming to judge it. Uh who are those judges? So we have got Ashley Cook, Ron DePo, Ron Bacca, Ben Stone, and Sandy Barham. So a really, really good panel, guys who've shown, um just uh you know, active breeders in the futurity world. And so I think they know what a good cow looks like, um, the marketability of them. And so it'll be it'll be a fun competition there. Um, and then at 5 30 is the black tie, and we've got rancher Wade on TikTok. Last year he showed up, didn't know. Now he's going all out. So it is a black tie event. Um, we're not gonna kick you out if you don't, but wear your tuxedo. Like we say, our wives and girlfriends, and they go all around the country, and this is something fun for them. You know, you dress up, you get fancy, we're selling an awesome group of heifers. Um, so that'll be Friday night at 5:30. Um, Saturday, we're gonna move in. We move the sale up from 3 o'clock to 2, um, you know, with daylight savings coming, week of legacy that gives us a little bit more daylight for those that are a little closer and want to get home. Um, but 2 o'clock is the legacy cow sale. Uh, following the sale, we do the futurity presentation, and there's always a little informal social um at the hotel bar there. Um, and then Sunday we set to have cattle loaded out by 10 a.m.

SPEAKER_01

And uh the sale day contacts besides yourself. Is there somebody else people can contact?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes. So um you can obviously get a hold of Ann Gravit. Um, she's there to help with you. Jamie, I'll volunteer you as well if you have any uh questions about cattle or stuff like that. Um, but yeah, mostly me, Jamie, Donnie Taylor, if you have any cattle handling questions, going to be our crew, and then any sales questions you can direct to Dan Huntington, who's gonna be our auctioneer.

SPEAKER_01

And haulers, is there anybody that has said ahead of time that they're willing to haul?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yeah. We got haulers going all over. I know Dan Grove will be down going back towards the east. Um, we should have Dino down going towards the west, uh, Wes Clark, Ezra Long, um, as well as a lot of the consigners who are out there, they you know, they say, Hey, I've got no problem taking back my area, especially if you buy their cow, you can get a pretty good deal. Um, but yeah, so we'll have haulers going all over the country and can line them up to get to you.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I will um I'll get these up on Hired Hand Live so people have it ahead of time. Um but then of course I'll always message them out during the sale as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. And and I do ask people, it's like, hey, if you're we're not this isn't a commitment to buy an animal, but if you're interested and maybe it's your first sale, um, and we I've already had a few reach out, just you can get a hold of me with my cell and just say, hey, I'm thinking, is there obviously live in Alaska? It's gonna take a little time to figure that out, but just let us know ahead of time to where after the sale, we don't have cows with no ride that we got to figure out. So um, that'd be my only um request.

SPEAKER_01

And the legacy sale is put on by the legacy group. Tell us a little bit about each one of the um the uh members, I guess, of the legacy group.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. So in in the group, we have Ann Gravit, Lane Kraft, Debbie Bowman, and Mike Casey. So I don't want to show any age or anything, but I mean that's easily over a hundred years of longhorn breeding through all of them. You know, Ann Gravit just got awarded the lifetime of achievement at GNG. Um, but this group, when the TLMA um decided, hey, we're gonna move on, do other things, uh, the question was what's gonna happen with the legacy sale? Um, this group stepped up, said, hey, we'll we'll take it over, we want to run it. Uh, we all have a lot invested in our cattle and in this industry, and we think this sale needs to keep going forward. So they stepped in, took it up in 2019. Um we were geared to go, and then COVID happened. So um that was in March. So we wound up having an October and a March legacy in 2020 and 2021. Um, but a lot of staying power with them. Mike Casey at Faralay Longhorns um has bred a number of awesome animals. Debbie Bowman, obviously, with her husband Mike, and then uh Lane Kraft have all been um kind of icons in our industry and really helped move the breed forward.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and I think it really, I mean, the amount of sponsors that you have, you have two pages of sponsors this year. Um, I think that also shows that um, you know, they know that the sale is a good, solid sale, and they all want to participate and and sponsor and keep the sale going too.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely. And we without our sponsors, I mean, we just simply couldn't do it. It sounds cliche, but it's the truth. I mean, um, you see them all through there. We have sales sponsors that you know come with consignments, um, a little more promotion stuff there. And then we just have regular event sponsors, you know, uh Tom and Amy Buxton, George and Annie Wartzbaugh, uh, we had Travis and Shauna Johnson and the whole Brightman family. These they came and said, What you know, what else can we do? Um, so we have bar sponsors, hay sponsors, meal sponsors, and that that goes a long way when you're talking about you know putting on any event. Um, they they cost a lot to do, and these sponsors help step up for allowing us to do cool things. Uh Casino Night with Mac and Andrea and Randy. That's you know something very cool and unique, but it, you know, something that if they hadn't set up to do, it'd be it'd be really hard to uh make it happen.

SPEAKER_01

And the the consigners, you have well over 50 consigners this year as well. And I think I recognize maybe a couple of new names as first-time consigners this year.

SPEAKER_03

There are, and that that's always the exciting part. And you know, I can kind of go through them. If I if I I'll preface this, if I miss anybody, I'm sorry. Um, but you know, we look, we have Diamond C Ranch. It's John Natalie Cheney, they're doing one. Um, they've been very active in the industry for a number of years, built up their herd to the point that they want to do a consignment. Uh, we move right along. Six CR Longhorns, Tim and Nicole Clark. They hadn't been back in a few years. Um, they've been busy doing things, you know, family kids, but we're excited to see them back. Uh big one, Lucky Mountain Ranch. Mike Davis. So it's it's coming up on 10 years of Danica. Um, it's taken us 10 years, and Mike is consigning the legacy. He's got one heck of a Danica embryo lot. Um, so it's good to see him there. Lloyd Esh of Dreamwood Farms up in PA. I mean, everybody knows Dreamwood Farms. He's had tremendous success in his breeding program. Uh, Glendora Farms up in Virginia is their first time as well. They brought two real nice animals. Uh, let's see, we've got uh Shining Penny Pastures, Kyle and Leah James from up in PA as well, um, bringing Mind Your Biscuits. Uh, then we move on, Loftus Longhorns. It's they've bought before, it's their first time. We have the Longhorn Brothers partnership. Um let's see here. We have Sky Ranch, uh, first time consigners anywhere. They brought a really good double K-bred cow. And let me make sure I think that is oh, and Hidden Springs, Carol Powell as well. Again, she's been and bought some really great foundation animals, but it's her first time consigning. Um, so very, very cool to see that amount of people um new to it and bringing awesome, awesome animals.

SPEAKER_01

With the um futurity, you explained earlier how all the all the um animals are in one class, and um then you have the five judges, and those awards are going to be given out after the sale on Saturday?

SPEAKER_03

Correct. So with the futurity, like I said it's just one big class, um, you know, and we've had years where a wienling has gotten second or third place, and so it's pretty fun to see, but we don't tell anybody the results until after. So Cold Copper Ranch and Commodities, Burnett, Marble Falls, Texas, um, were our futurity sponsors. And they we have these really cool custom crystal awards that are laser etched out. Um, so we don't we don't tell you who wins until after the sale, and then the consigner and buyer of the high point each get a trophy, um, as well as the animals consigned and get a payout from the futurity that goes back to the consigners. So um it's pretty cool, and it it kind of keeps you guessing as to who's gonna be the top um throughout the sale.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely. And then one other unique thing that you all do is you have a spotlight bull. Who is the bull this year?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. That is that is Marlborough Man LM. So he's a wildfire son going back to Danica right there. So it it worked out. He's owned by the Manning, Gilliland, Davis, and Cott partners. Um, he's our spotlight bull. So they purchased it last year. Um, that's gonna allow, you know, if you're interested this year, we sell it again. But Marlboro Man, it's it's kind of turned into the Danica show. Obviously, those genetics are, I mean, they're world famous. You Google 3S Danica, she's all over the place. Um, so you're lined up right here with Marlboro Man. We're gonna be selling semen on him um this weekend only. Up to this point, semen has been very, very limited. Um, the day the partners bought it last year, they said no more for sale until Legacy. So it's a great opportunity to um step your game up with these genetics. Uh, we we do have lot one in the heifer sale as a Marlboro Man daughter. And then one of the partners, Mark Gillilan, wound up putting in a hundred-inch 20-gauge daughter, who uh talking to him the other day has an ultrasound confirmed heifer Marlboro Man bun in the oven. So he'll be there. We bring him into the ring Friday and Saturday before the sale. He gets a big spotlight pin. I think the partners are bringing some of his young offspring to showcase. But um, you know, it it the cool part about it is it kind of puts these bulls further on the map where they are. Um, Cool Han Luke last year, we sold out uh it was a thousand dollars of straw, and everybody's like, oh no, that that's never gonna happen. And we sold out completely, um, never to be sold again. So Marlborough man's just the next step here, and I think he's an amazing bull that's that's really about to come into his own when some of his offspring starts hitting the market.

SPEAKER_01

And can they buy it all weekend or only on Saturday during the sale?

SPEAKER_03

It'll be all weekend. So we've got some e-blasts coming out um next week, announcing the semen, what we're pricing it at. Um, and then it's it's gonna be a limited quant quantity. So once once it's gone, it's gone. You know, it's starting Thursday. If you want to call me ahead of time and say, hey, I want to reserve 10 conventional straws or however it may be. Um, so I would say we'll stretch it all the way to Saturday, but we could sell out like Cool Hand Luke Friday night, and there'll be no more offered. So uh if you're interested in it, please get a hold of me. We'll get you a spot, and um the semen will be released the following week.

SPEAKER_01

And then you're also going to be selling the spot for this 2027 Spotlight Bull on Saturday.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. So we give we give Marlborough Man his time to shine. He gets all his promotion. We'll have the partners come up and talk, and then we start working on for 27. So uh if you have a bull that you're interested in, I mean, we've had lightning in a bottle, Teha Star, um, you know, Cool Hand Luke last year, Colluder, um, some great bulls, but it comes with a lot of cool stuff when you buy it. Um, you get the double pen, um, full page ads and all the sales that we do throughout the year, uh, e Blast. You get a legacy consignment as well as the center fold. And I think the cool part is you get the front cover of the legacy catalog to design however you want. This year turned out really cool. Um, you know, and credit to to Wayne Manning, he said, you know, Marlboro man, it looks like the the box of certain things. And uh the Surgeon General warning is he's good for your herd. Yeah, there's a lot of trademark stuff we got to be careful of.

SPEAKER_01

I get it, I get it. Well, should we talk about the consignments?

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so let's start with the choice lots. Um let's start with lot 3A and 3B.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. So that's going to Rock and RB Ranch. Um, awesome family. If you hadn't got the chance to talk to them, I know Megan's like our biggest hype man on Facebook or hype person on Facebook. Um, always liking stuff, sharing their enthusiasm is great. Well, last year we had a lot. Uh Cut and Royal gal that Mark Gillilin consigned. She topped the sale and was a daughter of TKR Royal Toughette, owned by Rockin' RB. So what they're wanting to do is a choice slot this year, and they've done two different bulls. Um, you have Iron Man HR, who was just off the horn showcase. He was the breed of voted ultimate bull. And you have Cut and Dried, who's a full sibling to Cut and Royal Gal who topped the legacy last year. Um, so you get to pick up the calf at Weening. Um, I think the Iron Man is due in the fall of 2026. Um, but yeah, they'll be available at Weaning. You can you know, obviously talk to Megan throughout the process, but you get choice, and that's a hard one to pick. Um, because she's just a phenomenal producer.

SPEAKER_01

Um, another one that I have on my list uh is an embryo lot, which you get the first choice of is lot one from Kraft Floyd Philip Henkler Partnership.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Um yeah, this is out of uh GLH Houdine Eats Rosemary. I think she measured 114 inches um this past year. She's on track, she could pass up to be the longest horn cow in the breed. Um, you know, we've got a heifer back at craft, she's got another heifer at Psy, but she's they've done really well with embryo work on this cow. So you're gonna have the opportunity out of the first choice of any of these embryos born. This is before the partners even get to pick. Um, they've got a great lineup of bulls, all some of them over 100 inches, but this is truly your first choice. So all the calves will be born, you get to get into weaning, um, then you get to go out, and they the partners invite invite you to come out and take a look. But yeah, it's a rare opportunity that you get something before the guys who actually own the cow do. Um, I thought it was pretty cool. And so we said, heck, let's kick it off with lot one that way.

SPEAKER_01

And then we also have another um choice embryo is uh lot 38 from Diamond C and Lonesome Pines.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Yeah, that's out of the great 50 grand BCC. Um, so they did a they did a few flush work jobs on her. Um, you know, like anything, embryos aren't a guaranteed. So we're down to the one choice is going to be cut and dried. Um, you know, a few of these embryos set, but making it to that 90-day mark is pretty tough. So as of today, we've got an opportunity at a 50 grand and a cut and dried embryo. Um, but you know, they want to stand behind what they sell. So they're talking to the embryologist. If they feel that that calf makes it past 90, has a good chance, um, they'll offer it for sale. If not, we're gonna scratch the lot um and they'll bring one back next year. But you know, she's the NLFR um high point heifer for 24, the for the inaugural year. So it's an amazing opportunity. But like I say, that embryo work can be tricky and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. But regardless, she's gonna be on site for everybody to see her because uh she's she's great to see.

SPEAKER_01

Another embryo lot is lot forty four from Diamond B?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Um, Diamond B, again, they've got one of the strongest herds we have in our breed, a bunch of hundred-inch animals, and they've got a really good embryo program um in the area. So what they're offering here is again a choice of BR Cracker Jack and the great Winona, that 50-50 daughter, with the real cool twist. Um, and again, you're getting choice of calf at weaning. So I think that's a that's a really cool step when you start talking about these embryos because who honestly knows what a day-old calf is gonna do. Um, so for the consigners to take that step and say, look, we're gonna grow them out to weaning, they're all gonna get on the same nutrition, they'll be healthy, and then you get to pick. I think you have a little better idea because the day-old calf, what are you gonna pick? The one with the most color. Um, but that's another opportunity to pick the um the calf at weaning from Diamond Bee out of a great cow, and then uh Cracker Jack who's been blowing it out of the park.

SPEAKER_01

And the last lot I have, I think I have, unless I missed any other ones, is lot six. All this Danica Heifer calf.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes. So this is very cool. Um you know, talking to Mike, he said, Hey, we're coming up on the 10-year anniversary of Danica selling at Legacy, and he has uh two embryo calves that are due any day. I think March 3rd, as we're doing this, it's you know the day before that. So um it's gonna be your choice at a Danica HL Heads Up. You know, he obviously made Head Over Heels, who sold for$380,000. Danica sold for$380,000. Um, I think he's one of the best producing bulls we have in our industry. So it's gonna be a lot of fun. Um Danica will not be on site. I don't blame Mike. Um, but you know, she's she's a legend, her mom's a legend, her daughters are legends. So this, I mean, it's a serious, serious opportunity to step up your game. Um, because I up to my knowledge, there's only been one Danica daughter let go of, and that was at the Glenn Denning sale last year with Danny, and she brought over a hundred thousand, I believe, or two years ago. Um, but pretty amazing opportunity, and we're real thankful to Mike for bringing it back to legacy. Pretty cool to see it go full circle.

SPEAKER_01

Well, let's continue to test those pedigree reading skills and play around of a catalog roulette.

SPEAKER_03

I'm in.

SPEAKER_01

All right. We'll start with the very first lot of the sale, H1. BCR Danny True Hart from Bull Creek.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. That is uh Bull Creek consignment, as you said. Uh, what's pretty fun to do is uh, especially with the spotlight bull, he's gonna come in all the light, smoke, cool pyrotechnics. If we're allowed to do that, I gotta check with the hotel. But um, we like to sell a daughter, and this is an own daughter, Marlboro Man. So you got Wildfire in the pedigree right there. Um, and then M7 Danny Van Horn. So you're going back to BCR True Heart. She's a really nice little heifer, well built. And to my knowledge, not in utero. This is the first Marlboro Man daughter to be offered at public auction. So you'll see him come in, her come in, beautiful young calf, and um built really well. I think it's gonna be cool.

SPEAKER_01

Next one, let's do lot H7. She's got a fun name, Mind Your Biscuits from Shine and Penny.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, yep. Uh that's Shine and Kyle and Leah James. It's their first legacy consignment. Um, I love their names. They got Mind Your Biscuits, they had double Y Diva, little black dress, but this heifer is one that uh she's just unbelievable in person. That cool Grulia coloring, uh, her horn set as far back as it goes. She's won futurities. Um and she's really well known on the East Coast. So it's cool to see them come down from PA, bring her. Um, you know, this is one we've been working on. You know, we tried to get her to sell last year and they wanted to wait, and we finally got her. So um an amazing heifer that's gonna really uh turn people's heads when they see her in the pen.

SPEAKER_01

Rolling here, uh let's stop on H14 from Gillaland Ranch, GLR 20 Jungles Gow.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yeah. Uh Mark and Charlene, um longtime legacy supporters. I mean, they don't they don't miss one, but they gave us a daughter, BR Jungle Jim. He just hit 100 inches not long ago that takes you back to Jam and Jenny, TCC Houdini. Um, and you're going back to Hubble's 20 gauge. You know, he passed away this year. I mean, the bull's gonna go down as one of the greatest in history. Um, real nice, well-built heifer, and gonna have a ton of horn. Um, and the top it off she's been in with Sheridan. So that bull, Kansas have rough winters. We're not used to that down here, but he had some horn damage on one side, so his horn kind of drooped. But if you go from his good horn to the middle, he'd be well over a hundred at a young age. So a hundred-inch genetics there, who she's bred to, and uh real flashy young calf.

SPEAKER_01

Next up is Lot H17, R.R. Banking on Sundog from Twin Canyons Ranch.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes. Kim and Matt Bays, um, great people. Um, it's really been fun getting to work with them, talk with them, do a lot of philanthropic work. It's it's real fun to see. But um, this is a daughter of two bar two Sundog. I think she was named a Legends at the Legends sale, phenomenal producer. You got Casanova's Magnum, um, and then Bankroll BC BCR that gives you 5050 and HL Royal Rose. So Royal Reputation, Drag Iron, all in the pedigree. And we've got a new photo of this heifer too. And um, man, she's flat horned, flashy, um, pretty. So yeah, they brought a great one to town.

SPEAKER_01

Next up is lot H22 from um Dana Christie Grove. Her name is Two Dozen Black Roses.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. And Dan, shout out to him. He has done a phenomenal job um promoting this heifer. His Facebook post of um just the timeless black rose. If your husband loves you, he'll buy you this cow. He does a really good job. She's she's a phenomenal, solid black heifer. Um, she has a sister selling that roses are red. It's a real strong maternal line. Um, 20 roses is gonna be selling Saturday. So you got black mark, it gives you real safari son, and that strong roses are red. Uh, he just posted a new photo where she looks phenomenal. Um, and somebody's gonna need a really nice heifer in her.

SPEAKER_01

Next up is Lot H 26, RC Don't Stop Believing from Bob and Carmen Larson.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, yep. Bob and Carmen, again, big legacy supporters over the years, and they always bring good ones to town. Um, she's a hanging tough daughter, he's over 100 inches, out of suite. It's called caramel, Jamie, not caramel, by the way. Um, one of the prettiest 20-gauge daughters in the breed. Um, real big horn measurement. So this heifer's got loud color. And if you know, talking to Bob, you look at her horns the way they're gonna roll. Um, we've seen with these tough genetics, that's what they do. They start up and then roll out, and they're gorgeous. So he brought us a real pretty one, and she's confirmed bred to Iron Man, who was the uh breeder voted ultimate bull at the horn showcase. And um getting to go up to land to see what he's producing. It's this is gonna be a pretty cool cross. And she is a flashy, loud-colored heifer.

SPEAKER_01

And we'll stop on um for the heifers, we'll stop on the very last slide, which is H30 from Mr. Dale Hunt.

SPEAKER_03

Bam! So I gotta pull up my phone. I know it's not proper um uh podcast etiquette, but Dale just texts me on the server. He's normally the first one that can sign. He's getting a little slow. Um took him about three weeks after legacy. But talking to him, he said, Chase, you know, we BS a lot. He taught me everything I know about pedigree reading, been a great mentor and friend, but we get serious. He said, Chase, on a serious note, this is the best animal I've ever raised. So a higher ground daughter, going back to eight seconds checks, you got that Miss Dixie Classic who had that modeled face like she does, um, real well built. So she, what, she's gonna be three on March 13th. Yesterday on March 1st, she measured 81 inches tip to tip. She's eight months bred to the undefeated DH hired handy, won every futurity you ever even thought about going to. Um, and again, she's still a two-year-old, not three, already over 80 inches, the horn set cranking back. Um, you know, the hardest part when lotting is the first slot and the last slot. Um, Suzanne and Bill were really great. Say, hey, we want to do a Marlboro man daughter first, right after him. They said, Okay. And I said, Well, who can we put last? And I called good old Dale. I said, We want to end it with a bang. And he said, Well, Dale, yeah. So in it on lot 30 with the best rock and H bred two-year-old on the planet.

SPEAKER_01

So 80 before she's even three, I remember when 80 used to be like the number to hit.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, and not long ago. I mean, so yeah, before third birthday, I mean, you're looking at an animal could be you know over the 90-inch mark at four, be challenging 100 before five. I mean, it's it is impressive to see. And the and I told Dale on the phone, hats off to him, this is a homegrown heifer. You look back in the genetics, this DH hurt he bred her mom, all that. So it's it's really cool to see um the success he's having with this program and the fact that we're lucky enough to let him share it with us and sell him a heifer or sell a heifer of his and Jennifer's.

SPEAKER_01

Well, let's move on to the cow sale, and we will go to lot four um from Miss Alex D's, H L O My Darling.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Beautiful Vindicator daughter brought to us by Alex. And we know if they're coming from Oregon, they're gonna be in great shape, they're gonna be big cows, um, good mamas. You know, Alex always steps up and brings us her good stuff.$100,000 daddy. Um, going back to JP Grand Ann. Um, you know, in the in the catalog, it's hard to tell. Um, they're all all the cows are the same size, but her body, she's she's almost 90 inches. Um, if she's not gonna be 90 at the sales, she's close. And we got her, Alex has her bred to be our jungle gym. He's 100 inches going back to Jam and Jenny, uh TCC Houdini. So it's gonna be a big time cow, big body with a lot of horn and um the genetics to produce it.

SPEAKER_01

Well, next let's just scoot on over to um Indiana from uh Hudson Longhorn slot eight, SDR verdicts lioness.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, yep. Bill and Elizabeth Hudson and Mike, again, longtime legacy supporters. They ran the legacy for a number of years. So, um, and obviously with the stockyard sale, they know what it takes to put in a good one. And I mean, this Lioness family doesn't miss. Um, they hit time and time again. We've seen cash cows here, cash cows there. Um now she's a verdict BCB daughter, um, and she's gonna come bred to Discovery. Um and Mike, again, I'm gonna pull it up because we're getting this is a live action, Jamie. We're getting updates daily. Um, let's see. So she measured, she's gonna be four in June, and a few days ago she measured 89.375 inches tip to tip. So it's pretty safe to say she's gonna hit 90 before her fourth birthday, and we've got her six months read to HL Discovery, um, who's that next line of just great Hudson Bulls. So big big time measurement. I mean, I'd feel confident saying if she keeps growing like she is, she'll she'll hit the 100-inch mark.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and I was talking to Nathan Jones earlier today, actually, about his lots and the legacy sale, and he told me the correct way to pronounce lot 12, which is Indian Summer.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. I mean, you didn't know that?

SPEAKER_01

I didn't know.

SPEAKER_03

They they get creative up there, didn't you? I don't know, long matters, a lot of time to sit and think, but like native legends, I thought it was so cool. That out, but yeah, Indian Summer. Um, Nathan, it's good to have him. And when you get that whole Hoosier crew together, you never know what's gonna happen. Um, but he's got his own program and built awesome animals. You got 5050 and the great showtime Mona Lisa. Um, I think they actually had to buy a trailer to move all the bronzes that Mona Lisa won in her day. So um Indian Summers had full siblings ring it as cash cows as embryo lot. So it's gonna be really exciting to see her and then Bred to Apparition, who's uh Nathan's big bully has out there. Um really cool genetic and a 50-50 daughter who have done really well in the past at Legacy and throughout the industry.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you talk about how you never know what's gonna come from any of the Hoosier boys. Uh so when people are walking around the um sale animals at the Legacy sale, they'll have to be sure to check out Nathan's pen signs. He's doing us something um a little bit unique for his pen signs. So you have to take a look.

SPEAKER_03

I'm interested to see. He uh they're always fun to talk. That's so great about this sale is we don't just get a bunch of consignments in the mail and say, okay, you're in. Every every one of these animals, we talk to consigners. If they're new, we build relationships. If they're old, we become better friends or you know, we butt heads even more. But it's so fun to see everybody's excitement about this breed and you know, help them put this sale together because they they step up year after year, and this year is is just a phenomenal lineup. And but Nathan's always one. I if you can call me at one o'clock in the morning, I'll answer because you never know what he's gonna say.

SPEAKER_01

He's always fun. Well, the next lot we'll do is lot 17 from Mr. Randy Murray, BR Nova Scotia.

SPEAKER_03

She's sweet. Um I'm not allowed to say I have favorite cows on the sale. They're all my favorite. Um, but I mean, man, she she is so unique. Um, 50 Shades Darker, she's over 100 inches. Uh Randy texted me the other day, she's confirmed Bred to Rattler. So that brings in Hydro and TCC Danny throwing in Danica. Um, you know, Randy's not too far, so we get to go out to his place and just seeing her 100 inches rolling. She's in great shape. Um, you got the great awesome Nova. So I think she's the third. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. I know there's two, she might be the third 100-inch Nova daughter in our breed. Um, so you get consistent as it comes and you throw in the 50-50 and Danica with the calf that's going to be in her. Um very cool lot um that that Randy's bringing us us here.

SPEAKER_01

Let's talk about um Dave Pace's lot 24, DC Francie.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Um you know, just a phenomenal producer. Um you know, Dave has built pretty much his whole herd around this line. He's got a really cool ad in there. You can see the daughters. Um, you got Miss Franchie Z, um, HBR Franchi checks, Ricky McLeod. I think the worst thing he ever did was let go of one of these. Um, but she is Dave's honest. Um when he can sign her, he says she's not 100 inches yet, but she will be by the sale. And I think two days ago I saw on Facebook she just hit 100 inches as well. Um, to top it all off, she's read to PCC dark dust. So he was the youngest true black bull to hit 90. I think his last measurement was 95, but he's challenging 100 pretty soon. So, and you know, Austin Roars, one of the partners, I was up at his and seeing what dark dust does on these red-colored cows, uh, you're gonna get a flashy calf. But yeah, Dave Dave put in probably his best cow he's ever owned here and just a phenomenal producer. But being a good producer, he's got offspring at home to replace her. So somebody's gonna get a really good opportunity um with DC Franchie.

SPEAKER_01

All right, next up is Lot 27, M. Arrow, the Queen from Glen Denning Farms.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. Rex and Sharice, again, long time industry supporters. Um, they've got the Fiesta sale, which one of my favorite sales to go to. I can't wait. Um, but Sharice again, she texts, we want to put in a hundred-inch cow. And uh, a, you don't say no to Sharice. And a B, especially when she says she wants to do a hundred-inch cow, and uh, she's majestic. I think she's I've been looking, and again, you can fact check me, but uh, she's one of the bigger horn, happy nine daughters in the breed. Uh, hit 100 inches, that's cowboy tough. You got Imero Cha Ching, who um you just recently passed away, so there'll be no more. And uh Sharice and Rex, they've sent me videos of her standing in the pasture, and the the queen is aptly named. Um, she knows she's special, she stands and poses. Um, and to top it all off, she's bred to Buckwyn. And that's, I mean, for those of you, I highly encourage you to get to the Fiesta sale. They do their bulls on spotlight there, and Buck Wynn is a sight to behold. He's huge, big horn, puppy dog gentle. Um, so that calf's gonna be special, but a beautiful hundred-inch uh Glendading Farms consignment.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I've heard you say a few times almost a hundred inches, or they are a hundred inches. Do you know how many almost or a hundred inch cows you have in the sale?

SPEAKER_03

Uh no.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

No. Uh I think, I mean, I could go through it. I know we've Are we counting the donors?

SPEAKER_01

Sure. You count whatever you want.

SPEAKER_03

Well, let's just say all of them. All of them could be 100 inches if they never That is true. So let's see. I'll just go with the actual consigned ones. Um, you know, Danick obviously there. Uh we're moving on lot 10, 20 Roses, consigned by Bill and Suzanne Torkelson. She's gonna be right there. She was 99, and I've learned there's a lot of honest people because they'll say 99 and 7.8. Uh 20 Whippoorwill Gal consigned by Mark Gillilan. Um, right at the 100-inch mark. Nova Scotia's over 100, consigned by New Age. Uh Native Dreams consigned by Hoosiers is over 100 inches. Uh DC Franchie, we just talked about, she's over 100 inches. Uh Emero the Queen is 100, lot 27. Uh we have lot 32, Stars in Motion, just hit 100 inch mark. Uh consigned by Diamond B. Longhorns. I think that's gonna be it on our hundreds. But I mean, so many of these animals. Five, six, seven. I think I counted seven. Seven. But then like we, you know, you look at Dale Hunt's and some of these that Chris Clark put in, they're 90-inch four-year-olds. So will they make it? Can't definitively say, but there's there's gonna be some hundred-inch animals bought this year that just haven't measured it yet. Um, pretty cool.

SPEAKER_01

Right on. Okay, let's talk about lap 31 from Bentwood. RJF, always awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. Richard and Jeannie, um, bringing us a great one. Pacific Cowboy 40 daughter. Um, he just hit 100 inches, and then awesome Trixie, uh, who sold for$165,000 at Legacy. So uh rolling out just like her mom. Um, she got a great measurement rocking and going, um, but 100-inch genetics, top and bottom. And uh, she's been out with Kid Rock in the pasture, who's the longest horn bull in the breed at over 108. So uh really well built and just straight from the heart of the Bentwood program. So 100-inch mama, 100-inch daddy, and read to 100-inch bull.

SPEAKER_01

All right, next we'll go back to Oregon and we'll do lot 36 from Tim and Nicole Clark. Daisy SS.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Um, a beauty, a sharpshooter daughter right here. Um, you got LL Tough Butterfly that gives you tough and the good butterfly bull. So tremendous success on her maternal line. Um, you know, she was 87 and a quarter inches. I mean, just right after her fourth birthday. Um, so you know, another big time measurement right there. And they've got her bred to tombstone. Um, so tombstone, you know, again, black and white son of J H rule safari son, but a really well-built cow. Um, one of those that's she's got a lot more horn than the photos show, but I think she'll challenge the 90-inch mark and you know, could cruise to the hundred inches at a very young age with the way her horn's going.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, next up is uh from Glen or sorry, Glendora Farms, lot 42, um, drag contest.

SPEAKER_03

Yep. I I mean Darren and Denise, um, again, not a lot of people might not know the name down here, but out in the East Coast, they do a lot. They raise beautiful animals. And Darren had just posted a photo of drag contests on Facebook like two days ago. There, you always hear photos can't do just like the color of this cow, I think it changes daily. Just that deep mulberry purple roan. Um, you know, she had a sister self over$100,000, but just a beautiful, I mean, really a testament to what drag iron did. Um, top caliber there, so there's no Rio in the pedigree. And they got her bred to TT Grand Design, who they're partners with the tallies, who raise phenomenal stock. So um it's a good chance to get a really colorful up, pretty cow bred to a great bull. But first-time legacy consigners, and they they brought the house.

SPEAKER_01

The last one we'll do is the last lot in the sale, which is lot 47 RC Everclear.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, ma'am. Um, brought to us by the Walkner, Grove, and Huntington Partnership. Uh, you know, these genetics have been big. She sold it yet, Legacy as a calf. Um, last year the partner sold an unborn embryo out of Everclear for what,$12,000? Um, this year they decided, hey, let's sell the cow. They've got her confirmed bread to jam box. He's over 100 inches. And we all know Uncle Jay. Um he likes see, you know, he likes value, we'll put it that way. And he said, well, what if we put in a confirmed recip as well with Everclear carrying an everclear cool hand luke embryo calf? And we said, heck yeah. Um, you know, Everclear is the last slot last year, so said, let's do it again. But this is going to be a four-in-one. Um, so Everclear bread to jam box with a recip carrying an EverClear Cool Hand Luke embryo. Um, so the recip will be on site. You get to take her home, but 94-inch um Cal, she had a full sister clears, they sell it legacy for$135,000. So um like to start in in the cell with a bang, and I think um everclear is a good way to wrap up the 2026 sale.

SPEAKER_01

Sounds like uh Jay might be giving Bob Larson a run for his money with their four and five in ones.

SPEAKER_03

That going back to what records will we see, and that you'll probably incite some thought, but could we have a six and one?

SPEAKER_01

I think somebody should try it.

SPEAKER_03

We need twins and then like a two-year-old wienling, and I think it can be done. But um hey, we're here to make it happen. So if you want to do it, give me a call and we can plan for 2027.

SPEAKER_01

Well, are there any lots that we did not talk about that you've gotten an update on that you want to share with everyone?

SPEAKER_03

Um, I do. We do have a sub lot, it'll be hitting hired hand live soon. Um, we're so thankful to have y'all and y'all's quick updates and just keeping everybody tuned in. Um Facebook does, but she's gonna be on our heifer sale and Kurt Twining, I think she is lot 13, but let me not lie. She's lot 12. Oh, there's that number again. Angrab it. 12.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_03

Um so yeah, she just she was with the Young Bull, came up open. Um, you know, Kurt said, hey, I'm standing behind my stuff. I want to bring something bread. So he is subbing Silver Streak out for a heifer name Outspoken, uh really cool new age female, black and white, um, real pretty, but she'll be our sub. And then Bob Larson, not to be outdone by the Walker Grove Huntington Partnership on his lot 14, RC Painted Lady, um, she is selling, and he's also including a recip with an embryo. So we have two four and ones um here at Legacy. Um, you know, a week out, that's all the updates I have as far as scratches or subs or anything like that. But um I recommend everybody stay tuned to Hired Hand Live because that's the the quickest way to get updates, other than listen to us at the sale on the auction block.

SPEAKER_01

Is there anything else that I've maybe have forgotten to mention that's going to happen the weekend of the legacy?

SPEAKER_03

I think that's it. You know, um, you know, a great sale, great lineup of cattle. You know, Anne's only rule, and the legacy group has adopted it, is if you're not going to have fun, just stay home. Um, we're here to celebrate. It's an awesome breed, an awesome group of people. Um, and we we've worked with the consigners, and the consigners stepped up to give you, I think one of the strongest lineups we'll see. Um something for everybody and you know, the for the first timers, come and enjoy it. Um, and if you see somebody new, be sure to welcome them. We were all the new guy at one point, and some of us were just a dumb little 20-year-old kid walking around a sale, not knowing what was going to happen for the next you know 15 years of his life. So um just yeah, come have fun, reach out to us if you have any questions, and we'll be we'll be ready to kick off for the 2026 Legacy Sale.

SPEAKER_01

Well, thanks for joining us. We can't wait to see you and everyone else at the Legacy Sale. Make sure to check out the consignments ahead of sale day and follow us for more updates. Until next time.
