Hey, my friends, today we are going to be talking about a topic that cuts straight to the core of how we see ourselves and the world around us. It's all about the stories that we tell ourselves. These stories can either build us up or tear us down, but here's the key these stories are often based on how we interpret our experiences, not necessarily the truth. So today we're going to unpack this idea and I'll show you how Scripture can help you rewrite the narrative of your life. Let's take a look at Romans 12.2. It says Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is His good, pleasing and perfect will. What this tells us is that our stories that we tell ourselves can change. How? By renewing our minds, by aligning our thoughts with God's truth. We have a choice we can listen to what the world tells us, maybe verbally, maybe through social norms or social expectations, or we can listen to what God's Word says about us. Sometimes it's simply what we're telling ourselves without even realizing it. So how do we renew our minds? Well, first of all, we need to identify the lies. Think about some of the negative stories that you've been repeating to yourself. Maybe it's something someone told you years ago, maybe it's the weight of your past mistakes. But here's the thing Lies will never hold up to truth. The truth will always prevail and the ultimate truth comes from God's Word. John 8 32 says then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. God's truth frees us from the lies that we tell ourselves and the lies that we hear from others. For example, if your story is I'm just not enough, god says in Psalm 139, 14, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. If your story is I've messed up too much, then God says in Isaiah 118, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. If your story is I'm alone in this, well, god promises in Deuteronomy 31.8,. The Lord himself goes before you and he will be with you. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Look, the more you read the Bible, the more you see how God tends to choose those you at least expect. That's what keeps me going. Remember, it's not how qualified you are. It's all about whether you believe what God says or you believe what the world says. Now, once you identify the lies.
Speaker 1:The next step is to rewrite your story with God's truth, and here's where it gets really practical. Every time you catch yourself falling into the old narrative, pause and ask yourself First of all, is this true, or is it just how I'm feeling right now? Two, what does God's word actually say about this situation? For example, let's say you're telling yourself I'll never succeed. Stop, recognize that this is a feeling, not a fact. Replace that thought with Philippians 4.13, which says I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Write that verse down, keep it somewhere where you can see it and repeat it every time doubt creeps in.
Speaker 1:Now, this isn't just about positive thinking. It's about anchoring your mind to the unchanging promises of God. Okay, here's what happens when you rewrite your story. Here's what happens when you rewrite your story. You begin to walk in the identity that God has given you, and that changes everything. 2 Corinthians 5.17 says If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here. Man, that's great. Your past mistakes Gone, your insecurities, they don't define you. Your future, well, it's in God's hands, and his plans are always good. When you embrace this truth, you'll find a new sense of freedom, a new sense of purpose, and you'll have a new sense of peace. So here's my challenge to you For today take one negative story that you've been telling yourself, just one.
Speaker 1:Write it down and then find a verse that speaks God's truth over that lie. Let that be the verse that becomes your anthem throughout this next week, and keep doing this until the lies that you hear are squashed by God's promises. Then move on to the next lie that you keep telling yourself. Write it down, find a promise from God's Word that defeats that lie and hit. Repeat. Keep doing that until the narrative changes. Hey, if this message resonates with you, share it with someone who might need it. Let's be a community that reminds one another of the truth when the lies get loud. Living in secret fear that is based on lies will only keep us immobilized, and God wants us to be free from fear and lies. Be determined to listen to God's good plan for you. Hey, thank you for tuning in to Behind the Mic podcast. Until next time, keep rewriting your story with God's truth. You are loved, you are enough and your story isn't over yet. Remember that.
