Hey, everyone, welcome back to Behind the Mic. Today we are busting some of the biggest myths about the Bible. Things that people believe but they're not actually there. Some of these might surprise you, so stick around. All right, miss number one. It says God helps those who help themselves in the Bible. Now, this phrase sounds biblical, but it's actually from Benjamin Franklin. The truth is, the Bible teaches the exact opposite. God helps those who realize they need him. Psalm 46 one says, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Now, does that sound like we sit around and do nothing? Well, of course not. But it does mean that we're called to trust God and rely on his strength and not just our own abilities. Myth number two the forbidden fruit was an apple. The Bible never says what kind of fruit it was. Genesis three simply calls it the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The idea that it was an apple likely came from a Latin pun, and the Latin word malum can mean both apple and evil. So when artists started painting the scene in the Garden of Eden, they often used apples. But biblically, it could have been a fig, a pomegranate, or even something we've never seen. Myth number three there were three wise men at Jesus birth. Now, we've all seen those Christmas cards and all kinds of decorations, with three wise men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus in the manger. But Matthew two never actually says there were three wise men. It just says, wise men from the east brought three gifts gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Another fun fact they didn't show up at the manger. The wise men in Matthew 211 it says they found Jesus in a house. And based on the timeline, it was probably when he was a toddler. At the time, long after his birth. So while there could have been three, the Bible doesn't say for sure. Myth number four Satan rules hell. Oh, Hollywood loves the idea of Satan ruling over hell like some kind of evil king. But the Bible tells a different story. Revelation 2010 says Satan will be thrown into the lake of fire and tormented forever. That doesn't sound like a throne to me. Hell isn't his kingdom. It's his future prison. Right now the Bible says Satan is roaming the earth trying to deceive people. That comes out of first Peter five eight but one day God will bring an end to his rule. Myth number five money is the root of all evil. People love to quote this one, but they usually leave out a key word or two. First Timothy 610 actually says, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils. Money itself is neutral. It's a tool. It's how we use it and what place it has in our hearts that matters. Jesus talked a lot about money because he knew that it could easily become an idol for us. The issue isn't wealth. It's whether our wealth controls us instead of God. Myth number six Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Now, the Bible doesn't actually say Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Jonah 117 calls it a great fish. Now, could it have been a whale? Maybe some large whales can swallow things whole. But the real miracle about this story isn't the type of creature. It's the fact that Jonah survived inside for three days. Jesus even referenced this event as a sign of his own resurrection in Matthew 1240, showing that it was about way more than just a big fish. Myth number seven. Christians shouldn't judge others. Well, this is one of the most misunderstood verses when Jesus says, judge not that you be not judged in Matthew seven one. He wasn't saying never to judge. He was warning against hypocritical judgment, because in John 724, Jesus actually says, judge with righteous judgment. The Bible teaches that we should use discernment and call out sin when necessary, but always with love, humility, and fairness. Myth number eight. Eve alone is to blame for all of the fall. Poor Eve. She gets blamed for everything. But did you know that Adam was right there when she ate the fruit? Genesis three six says she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Unquote. Even more interesting. Romans 512 through 19 places the ultimate responsibility on Adam. He was, after all, the head of humanity, and his sin affected all of us. So it wasn't just Eve's mistake. It was both of them. Myth number nine Noah took only two of every animal. Now, most people think Noah took two of every animal onto the ark. But that's only half true. You see, Genesis 619 says two of every kind were brought. But then Genesis seven two through three adds another detail. Noah also took seven pairs of clean animals and birds. Why? Well, likely because after the flood, he would need them for sacrifices. Look up Genesis 820 and probably food. So while we imagine pairs of every animal walking onto the ark. Some of them actually had much larger families. And finally, myth number ten people become angels when they die. We've all heard heaven gained another angel. But biblically, that's not how it works. Angels and humans are separate creations. Hebrews 114 says, angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who inherit salvation. So when believers die, they go to be with the Lord. Check out second Corinthians five eight. But they don't become angels. Instead, they await the resurrection when they'll receive new glorified bodies. Check that out in First Corinthians 1542 through 44. While some of these might have surprised you, the Bible is full of incredible truth. But over time, myths and misunderstandings creep in. That's why it's so important to study scripture for yourself. Hey, if you found this helpful, hit like, subscribe and share this with someone who might need to hear it.
