Holy Saturday: When God is Silent | Passion Week 2025
What do you do when God feels silent? On Holy Saturday, we sit in the in-between — after the cross but before the resurrection. It’s a day of silence, grief, and waiting. But silence doesn’t mean absence.
In today’s Passion Week devotional, Mike Stone shares a powerful message about trusting God in the waiting. When the miracle hasn’t come yet, and hope seems buried, Silent Saturday reminds us that God is still at work — even in the tomb. If you're feeling stuck between prayer and breakthrough, this message is for you.
🙌 Just because God is silent doesn’t mean He’s not working.

What do you do when God feels silent? What happens when the miracle hasn't come yet? Holy Saturday, the day between the cross and the resurrection, was a day of waiting. It's a day of grief and a day of silence. If friends, welcome to Behind the Mike Podcast, I'm Mike Stone, and today we're talking about a part of Holy Week that doesn't get much attention. We call it Holy Saturday, the day after Jesus died, but before he rose again. It's the in-between. It's the pause between promise and fulfillment. Imagine what the disciples were feeling. The one they had followed, loved and believed was the Messiah was dead. The sky turned black. The veil in the temple had torn. And now nothing. The tomb was sealed. The crowds had gone home. And the silence must have been deafening. The gospel writers say very little about this day. But we do know the disciples were hiding in fear.
Check out John 20:19. Holy Saturday reminds us of those seasons in our lives. When God feels absent, you pray and nothing. You wait and you wonder if he's listening. You thought the story was going one way and suddenly it fell apart. But here's the thing. Just because God is silent doesn't mean he's absent. Even in death. Even in the tomb. God was working. Jesus body may have been still, but God's redemptive plan was moving forward. As 1 Peter
3:18-19 suggests, Christ was proclaiming victory even in the unseen realms. Look, we all have Holy Saturday moments. Times when the pain is real and the outcome is uncertain. Maybe you've maybe you're between a diagnosis and a healing. Maybe you're between a prayer and an answer. Maybe you're between a heartbreak and restoration. Holy Sunday teaches us to hold on even when we can't see what God is doing. Because Sunday's coming resurrection is real. So if you're stuck in the waiting, don't give up. Jesus knows what it's like to be there, but he also knows how the story ends. And that leads us to tomorrow. The greatest day in history. Resurrection Sunday. Father, to anyone walking through the silence right now through uncertainty, grief or doubt. Remind them that you are still working in their lives, even when we don't see it. Even when we don't feel it. Give us hope in the waiting. Just like you did on that quiet Saturday. Knowing Sunday is on the way. In Jesus name, Amen. And thanks for spending time with me this Holy Week. And if today's message encouraged you, would you consider sharing it with someone who might need that same reminder? Don't miss our final episode tomorrow, Resurrection Sunday. You don't want to miss it. Thank you and God bless.
