Have you ever heard someone in church say, God will never give you more than you can handle? Or maybe good people go to heaven. These are phrases we've all heard, maybe even repeated ourselves. They may sound nice, they sound Christian. But here's the problem. They're not true. And when we build our faith on half truths, we end up with a very shaky foundation. Well, today on Behind the Mike Podcast, we're going to tackle five of the most common myths that Christians believe. Plus, a bonus one at the end and we'll discover together what God's Word really says. You might be surprised which ones you've believed and how freeing it is to replace them with truth. Myth number one God will never give you more than you can handle. Sounds nice, encouraging, but it's not in the Bible. People usually quote first

Corinthians 10:

13, but that verse is about temptation, not suffering. In reality, God often allows things in our lives that feel overwhelming. Paul himself wrote in 2

Corinthians 1:

8-9 that he was burdened beyond strength, so that we would rely not on ourselves, but on God. Let me illustrate. Think of Jobe or Gideon facing the Midianites with only 300 men. Way more than they could handle. Unless God showed up the truth. God may allow more than you can handle on your own, but never more than he can handle through you. Myth number two good people go to heaven. This is probably the most common cultural belief. The problem the Bible says

in Romans 3:

10, there is no one righteous, not even one. If heaven was about good people, how good would you have to be? What's the cutoff? 51% good. Truth is, heaven isn't about being good. It's about being forgiven. Picture a courtroom. You've broken the law. Being nice in other areas doesn't erase the crime. Someone has to pay. Well, Jesus paid it on the cross. And the truth is, good people don't go to heaven. Forgiven people do. None of us are worthy. It's only through Jesus Christ. Myth number three God wants everyone healthy. This one hurts because it gets used against people who are already hurting. Yes, God can heal. Yes he does heal. But no, the Bible never says he will heal everyone on this side of heaven. An example is Paul had a thorn in the flesh. Don't know what it is, but he prayed three times for it to be removed. And God said, my grace is sufficient for you. Look that up in

2 Corinthians 12:

9. Timothy had stomach problems. Elisha died of an illness. The truth is, God does heal, but sometimes his plan is to use our weakness to display his strength. Now also remember, ultimate healing comes not in this life, but in the resurrection. Myth number four name it. Claim it. The idea that if you speak something with enough faith, God is obligated to give it. This makes God a vending machine, not a sovereign king of the universe.

James 4:

3 says, you ask and you do not receive because you ask with the wrong motives. Look, Jesus in Gethsemane, he prayed, not my will, Lord, but yours be done.

Luke 22:

42. Real prayer aligns our hearts with God's will. It doesn't twist his arm. We don't create reality with our words. God does. Our role is to surrender, not control. Myth number five faith means no doubts. Many believers feel crushed by guilt because they wrestle with doubts. Think of Thomas, the disciple. He doubted. But Jesus didn't reject him. He invited him to see and believe. John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus, later asked, are you the one? Or should we expect another?

That's in Luke 7:

19. Look, God is not intimidated by our questions. Faith isn't the absence of doubt. It's trusting God in the presence of doubt. Strong faith is not perfect faith. Strong faith keeps clinging to Jesus even when it doesn't have all the answers. And our bonus myth. Everyone should speak in tongues. Some teach that this is the sign that you're truly saved or spirit filled. But Paul wrote clearly in 1 Corinthians

12:

29-30 do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret the obvious answers? No. Tongues are a spiritual gift, not a universal requirement. The real evidence of the spirit is the fruit of the spirit.

In Galatians 5:

22-23, every believer is given gifts as the spirit wills. We shouldn't compare or force a uniform experience. All right, here's the takeaway. Test everything you hear by the Word of God, even if it comes from a pastor, a book, or a catchy church saying. Paul told the Bereans in Acts 17 that they were noble because they searched the scriptures to see if what Paul preached was true. So let's be Bereans. Let's filter everything. Even the things that we've always assumed through the Word of God. That's our standard. We can't let society or fads, or regardless of who it comes from, establish the truth. For us, it's got to come from the Word of God because the truth sets us free. But lies? Even nice sounding ones will keep us stuck. And worse, could very easily turn you off of the path that God has for us. Hey, thanks for joining me today on Behind the Mike Podcast.
