Would you die for your faith?
It’s a question most Christians avoid—but one Jesus never softened.

In this episode of Truth Behind the Mike, Mike Stone challenges believers to confront the real cost of following Jesus.

We live in a culture where faith is often comfortable—but what happens when it isn’t?

What happens when following Christ costs you your reputation… your relationships… your career… or even your life?

Using both Scripture and real-world examples, this episode explores:

* The difference between cultural Christianity and true discipleship
* Where modern believers tend to “draw the line”
* Why Jesus called us to take up our cross—not just believe
* How recent events are forcing people to rethink what faith really means

This isn’t about fear.
It’s not about politics.

It’s about one question:

Is your faith real… if it only exists when it’s safe?

If this challenged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.

Subscribe to Truth Behind the Mike for more bold, biblical conversations that encourage, challenge, and point you to Jesus.

It's been a lot of things going on in our world lately and in our nation. And I was just thinking the other day about a question that we really need to be asking ourselves and preparing ourselves for every day. And it seems a little bit morbid, but the question that I came up with, I asked myself, and I ask you now, would you die for your faith? Not theoretically, not in a Bible study, not in a comment section. I mean, really, if it costs you everything, would you still follow Jesus? Because most of us have never actually had to answer that question. We live in a version of Christianity that costs very little. We can go to church, we can post a verse, we can say we believe in Jesus and still keep our reputation, our comfort, our careers and our relationships. But that's not the Christianity that Jesus described. Jesus never said, follow me in. Everything will stay safe. He said, take up your cross. And crosses are not comfortable. They're not symbolic, their instruments of death. Let me ask you something. What happens when following Jesus actually costs you something? Not just inconvenience, but real loss. We're starting to see glimpses of that tension in our world today. Not perfect. Not always clearly, but it's there. Just recently, at the White House Correspondents Dinner event in Washington, a shooting attempt to stopped and reports say the suspect had writings that included anti-Christian hostility. Now, listen, we don't know everything yet. Motives are still being investigated. But here's what we do know. There are people in this world who don't just disagree with Christianity. They hate what it represents. Not too long ago you have the situation like former NBA player Jaden Ivey. He was released after posting controversial comments tied to his religious views and sexuality. Some say, well, he was punished for his faith. Others say it was his conduct and how he expressed it. Look, here's the point. We are entering a time where belief, speech and consequence or colliding. And whether you agree with how someone says something or not, the reality is this. Following Jesus publicly is no longer neutral. So most of you know, if you've listened to the the show that I grew up in the church and as far back as I can remember throughout all my life we kept hearing, you know, persecutions coming, persecutions coming. Even as a child, I remember certain things would happen and someone would say, well, that's Christian persecution. And as I got older, I started reading stories about worldwide news where there truly were Christians in China and in Africa who were very much being persecuted unto death. And I thought, boy, you know, we really, in this country don't know what Christian persecution is, but I do believe we are really starting to see a continual progression of that happening. I don't think we've come to any really strong compared to China or Africa or all over the world, where Christians are truly being persecuted and killed. Some mass killings for for their faith. And I know that we've talked about Jade and Ivy and the white House correspondent shooting. Those kind of things hit the news every once in a while. But I think that we need to bring this closer to home and forget the headlines for a moment. So where is your line? Would you lose a friendship over your faith? Would you risk being labeled? What about standing when everybody else sits? Or would you speak when it costs you something? Or do we subtly adjust and tone it down, soften the truth so we don't lose anything? Because here's the truth most Christians won't say out loud, we want a Savior, but not a cross. So we have to go back to Scripture. And did you know that every disciple except for one was killed for their faith? Wasn't because they were violent, wasn't because they were political, but because they refused to deny Jesus. And Jesus said plainly, he said, if they persecute me, they will persecute you. Not might not, maybe they will. And up until now, we've not seen that a whole lot. So the real question isn't will following Jesus cost something? The real question is, are you prepared when it does? Now let's be honest, because this is where people mess up. This is not about acting tough for being combative or trying to win cultural wars. This is about something so much deeper surrender. Peter said he would die for Jesus and then he denied him three times. So before we say, yeah, I'd die for my faith. Maybe the better question is, am I even living for him right now? Let that sink in. Because most of us won't face death tomorrow. But we may face pressure, compromise, silence. Fear. And those are the moments where faith is actually tested. Not on a stage. Not in a comment section on social media. But in the quiet decisions. Do I speak the truth or stay silent? Do I honor God or protect myself? Do I follow Jesus or do I follow comfort? Here's the beauty of the gospel. This isn't about being strong enough because you're not many, there am I? This is about surrendering to the one who already gave everything. Jesus didn't ask you to carry a cross until he carried one first. He wasn't asked, would you die? He chose it. So now the question comes back to us. If he gave everything for you. What are you holding back from him? If it cost you everything, would you still follow him? It's a question I've been asking myself a lot. We love to say I'd die for Jesus, but most of us won't even live for him when it's uncomfortable. We won't speak when it cost us something. We won't stand when it isolates us. And we don't choose truth if it risks our image. So? So let's be honest. The question isn't would you die for your faith? The question is. Where have you already compromised it? Because the line that you draw today is the line that you'll keep tomorrow. And if your faith only survives when it's safe. Is it really faith at all? God, I want to pray for those who are watching and listening. I'm speaking to myself as we talk about this important question. And God, I know it's easy for us to say when things are comfortable. Yes, I'd die for Jesus. I die for my faith. But I think we all know deep down we're not quite sure what we would do. It's easy to say I would die for my family, die for my wife and my kids. But until that actually happens, we don't really know. So, God, I pray that you would prepare us even right now. God, we don't know if we'll ever face true Christian persecution in our lives, but we do know that we need to be prepared for it. We'd need to make up our minds now, and we need to live and serve you right now. Because if we're not even able to serve you now. We really have to question whether we would serve you under that pressure and that tension. So, God, I pray for those listening, those watching and and for all of our families. God help us to recognize that our country, our society is full of people who hate you and hate everything you stand for. God help us to be people who stand for truth, the truth of your word, the truth of your life, and of your death in Jesus name. Amen. You know, I think back to Columbine many years ago, and the story goes that the the one girl who was face to face with the person who was doing the shooting asked her to renounce her faith, and she wouldn't. I pray that we all would have that kind of faith. Because we never know when we're going to need it. So again, if our faith only survives when it's safe, is it really faith at all?
