John Forslund - Seattle Kraken - NHL Lead Announcer

Today, we sat down with John Forslund, the primary play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Kraken, but has also done national games for ESPN, NHL Versus, TNT, and NBC Sports. For over 30 years, John has been calling hockey games professionally, but his love of the game from the announcer's perspective started much younger. John grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, and decided early on that he wanted to be a hockey play-by-play announcer. “I started doing the games off the television from age 12 to 17,” he says. “My dad was my color man. He and his dad would turn the sound down, and they would do any game that came on. His father's friends would come over and watch the Bruins play at night, and little Johnny would sit on the floor and call the game.
Today, we learn about John, the dad who is the father to three young adults and the husband to Natalie who he loves dearly. We also will hear about how he lost his best friend, his father, in 1985 while giving him CPR. John's parents were alike but different; they were positive, but they pushed him.
John is the ultimate professional at his craft and puts a lot of onus on practice and being prepared, lessons that he will teach his own children. By working hard, he always learned that you will get something back. Additionally, he taught his kids the simplistic advice of always treating others how they want to be treated.
