A single line from Scripture can stop you in your tracks: “Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.” That love isn’t sentimental or distant. It’s the kind of divine friendship that sits at a real table, listens to real worries, and even weeps at a real graveside. We walk into Bethany to see what happens when Christ is welcomed not as a stranger, but as the beloved guest.

We reflect on Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus as three faces of Catholic discipleship. Martha shows the holiness of hospitality and the dignity of service when it’s rooted in faith rather than anxiety. Mary reminds us that the “better part” is still available: quiet prayer, Scripture, and Eucharistic adoration where we learn to receive Jesus before we try to do everything for him. Together, they teach a balance that so many of us crave in daily life: action that stays recollected, and contemplation that bears fruit in charity.

Then Bethany turns toward grief and hope. At Lazarus’ tomb, Jesus enters human sorrow with compassion, and his command to “come forth” becomes a sign of resurrection for every believer. We talk about what this means for suffering, for trust when prayers feel delayed, and for living with Eucharistic hope when life feels heavy.
