Episode 152: Andy Burnell - Crab.e.cam

This week we are joined by Andy Burnell, the man behind the hugely popular Crab.e.cam social media account, where he documents heaps of amazing underwater footage from his GoPro mounted in his crab net. What started as a simple idea has grown to over 32k Facebook followers and over 175,000 youtube views. Andy talks us through how he sets up the go pro to get top quality video and photos, chats about Scuba and Free diving and talks us through what he has witnessed with the devastation of the algal bloom, but now luckily he is seeing some signs of improvement.

We have plenty of news to cover as well:

  • The bag limits of certain species in the different gulfs have returned to normal after a temporary reduction.
  • The 3rd prize in this round of the Lets Go Fishing Competition has been won in a tight race for the prize!
  • Goolwa Beach Cockles remain open for bait only.
  • A reminder about cleaning any diving gear and pots to stop the spread of the Abalone Viral Ganglioneutritis from the South East.
  • Murray Cod Season opens on January 1.
  • Algal Bloom numbers improving across much of the state, with KI the exception, including some footage of a sick looking Great White off Island Beach.

Our tackle item is the new Tenacity Power Pro braid from Shimano which we are putting on our Whiting rods, while our tackle item covers Tuna - both school and barrel size fish, plenty of crabs and crayfish and even a ‘lost’ Marlin swimming near the jetty at Moonta!

We also have a bit of a wrap of 2025 and wish our listeners a Happy Christmas and hope you all get in plenty of fishing over the Festive Season!
