Rosten Callarman speaks about Habitat for Humanity and the Homeless
Who We AreMISSIONA world where everyone has a decent place to live.VISIONSeeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.INTERNATIONALFounded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 1,000,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 4 million people worldwide.ABILENEHabitat for Humanity Abilene, Inc is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. It was established in 1990 and has built or rehabbed over 162 homes, helping more than 200 adults and 400 children. How We WorkALL ARE WELCOMEHabitat for Humanity Abilene, Inc. has an open-door policy: in short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.HOW IT WORKSAbilene Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes, relying on community donations and volunteer support. Selected families are required to perform “sweat equity” as part of their commitment. They purchase Habitat houses at-cost with a 0% interest mortgage for 20 - 25 years. This saves our homeowners about $40,000 over the duration of their mortgage. With their monthly mortgage payments, our homeowners are “paying it forward.” Their principal payments help provide support to build additional Habitat houses in Abilene.NON-PROSELYTIZINGAs a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity Abilene, Inc. does not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
