SPEAKER_03This side of Country Live with Trav and Kiesta. Slam a coffee, then grab another cup, and tune in Monday mornings on 95.9.
SPEAKER_05You're tuned into this side of Country Live with Trav and Kiesta, powered by Fix It Forward Auto Care. I'm absolutely loving this morning because I am in a room full of amazing women right now. And we're continuing that chat with our next guest.
SPEAKER_04Hey, we love all things amazing. And that's why we invited Dr. Lauren in today to talk about Healing Touch Chiropractic. And fun fact, you just heard Dr. Tiff reference where she started in chiropractic. She also works there. She actually owns the business Healing Touch Chiropractic. Uh-huh. And she brought Lauren along to talk about what they do, why they're different, and um some cool special they have going on. So thanks for being here, Lauren. Yes. How would you say, and I know you as a chiropractor, right? We you we actually used to work together in that business. And so I know a lot about you as a chiropractor, as a mom, as a woman, and so the vibe, the feeling when you walk into Healing Touch is different than any other chiropractic office around. Can you describe that for you on the other side of the table? What does that feel like for you?
SPEAKER_02It's it's really such an honor to be able to create an environment where people like truly feel comfortable being vulnerable, especially if they're going through hard times in life. That is not a place that is often found for many people, sometimes even within their own homes. Right. So it's it's really quite the honor that we get to be that safe place for many people.
SPEAKER_05I feel like you and hairstylists in that sense are a lot alike. People come in and start telling you their personal story, all you gotta do is ask. Right. Yeah. And what a vulnerable time when you're getting your neck rearranged. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, and that and that's all of the that and that's a common misconception of chiropractic. That's all in your neck because it's your it's your whole body, it's your nervous system, it's it's at the facet of how you're feeling. And when you get adjusted and you're having a bad day, that adjustment might be the thing that triggers you to talk about the bad day, or your tears might start flowing, and then that's when she's looking at you like, whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on? How can we help? How can we talk about? And so just getting those things out of your body, either verbally or through a chiropractic adjustment, are two ways that you guys help and heal people at Healing Touch. What are some other ways that you start appointments so that way a patient knows we started here and here are our goals, and you help that person. How does that work?
SPEAKER_02Yes, so one of the biggest things that we hear often is oh, you guys aren't just asking about my low back pain or just about my neck pain. Like you want to truly know how work is and how home life is and how you're sleeping at night, and if that type of stress is something that's affecting the entire body, that then is therefore possibly leading right to the back pain that essentially brought somebody through the door.
SPEAKER_04So you're saying if my lower back hurts, it might not be because I was gardening all day yesterday. It could be, but usually it's not. Right. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_05I imagine there's gotta be a lot of people that walk through your doors in my situation. They get on the table and they're just like, ah, this is the one moment today I get to slow down. Yes. And you just get your hands on them and you're like, holy tension, my friend. Uh, you're carrying a lot there. You get a lot of those, I imagine. For sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes. And I mean it and it varies day to day, even for the same person, just depending on what they're dealing with in life.
SPEAKER_05And we do a lot of shrugging. I think a lot of people don't understand that we we do this a lot when we have tension. I imagine you're seeing a lot of people too with the old technec issue as well. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And welcome back to school with so many more kids. Kids are having those. Oh man, they're too young for that. I know. Wow.
SPEAKER_04What's some actually practical advice outside of obviously starting carrot healing touch chiropractic for parents in this back to school transition that they can help their child ease into it without suffering so bad that they feel the only answer is to come get an adjustment.
SPEAKER_02Which so I actually just did a whole workshop on this last week because as now first-time school mom, I'm learning firsthand what the entire transition actually entails. Yeah. And so really prioritizing the kids' sleep and the parents' sleep. Right. Even if it's totally gonna disrupt the evening schedule, like they they need that rest. Right. Even if they want to stay up and play, you just have to help them understand, like, no. Yeah. And then one of the other things that I touched on is how the morning tone is. Yeah. Like if you're gonna be rushing yourself and your kids out the door, then they are not gonna be set up for a very successful day to take on even more environmental chaos at school.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, if you're in a hurry, then your kids are also feeling that hurry. And then your short fuse, and you get your shoes on, get your shoes on. Exactly. Because you didn't prepare yourself. Okay, I love that. So basically you're saying parents, yep, prioritize yourself and then make sure you're prioritizing your kids.
SPEAKER_02Which is a big shift I've made in the last three days since he started kindergarten.
SPEAKER_04And kindergarten. So how are you doing as a mom with that kindergarten? So many of my friends have had kind, and I remember that feeling, and it's like, it's good, but it's also like my baby's going to school without me there.
SPEAKER_02Every morning so far, he said, Remember, you can't walk in with me. Oh yes, I remember. Yep. Bye. Have fun.
SPEAKER_04So you're doing all right. Yes.
SPEAKER_02And he's doing great. He's so excited about it.
SPEAKER_04See, that's the thing, is like kids are so excited. As parents, we're like, oh, but no, no. No, give them the wings, let them fly. They are supposed to do this. They don't need us forever.
SPEAKER_05Celebrating 21. Right. Uh, what did you do to celebrate, first of all?
SPEAKER_01Oh. Well, not much this year. Right. We had a huge uh 21's like an epic birthday. Like in like a lot of people. Yeah. Somebody actually just mentioned that reference this week. Yep. Um last year we had our big 20th um party in the in the parking lot. And actually we whipped the live event a little bit um nearer. It was at the end of October last year. Oh, yep, yep. Um, we kind of forgot our last lot two weeks ago. I'm like, hey, what are we doing for our 21st this year? Oh, because it's tomorrow. Right. So we had um cookies in the office. And you know, back in the day, I used to do all the organic treats and nobody wanted them and nobody liked them. And I mean they might take them, but they're in the garbage pan on the way on top of it.
SPEAKER_05So what are we talking when we're saying organic treats?
SPEAKER_04Oh, raisins. Okay, I love raisins. I like those nasty like jelly fruit roll-up things, like all the bear fruits, these are organic.
SPEAKER_01Kids don't actually like that. So we're we're pretty casual this year, I feel like. We just had cookies and a giveaway to Plaza.
SPEAKER_05Lauren, how long have you been with Dr. Tiff over here?
SPEAKER_01Two and a half years.
SPEAKER_02Two and a half years.
SPEAKER_05What made you want to get into the whole chiropractic industry?
SPEAKER_02Sh man, it's not an it's not a great story. Okay. I was I initially started out in the PT program through NDSU. Sure. Then I went to Shadow PTs, and I was like, no, this is actually not a thing that I want to do. So then I just knew I wasn't gonna do that, but had actually no idea what I was gonna do until I had seen that one of my classmates got into chiropractic school. Okay. And I was like, oh, that's an avenue that I could go. Sure. And it just like, I applied, I got in, we toured the building, and I started a couple of months after. Yeah. That's the story. Yeah. I put no thought into it. I'm just kind of let it take me where it took me.
SPEAKER_05Well, 21 years. Obviously, the community loves uh loves you. We hear a lot of great things over there. In your words, as somebody that works with Dr. Tiff, being there at Healing Car uh Healing Touch for 21 years, uh what is it about the environment that is just different at your chiropractic office that other folks maybe are not seeing?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yeah. I mean, as you just heard with Dr. Tiff talking about the live event, yeah. I mean, she wants the best thing for people. Love that. And she doesn't just hope that you're gonna be a worker bee to help her be able to do more things for herself. Right. Now, are you saying that because she's sitting right next to you, or is that the honest to God's truth? That's so true.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, she like wants us all to be the best that we can. Absolutely. Versus like, hey, like you gotta work today and no one's gonna be there to support you. Right. You know? Right.
SPEAKER_01That's that's not her come out as like fluffy and right and uh yeah, but that's calm and kind even. Well, kind, yes. Maybe not nice all the time. It's like hey, yes, to the point of what we just talked about. Yeah, I see I see people's potential really clearly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I'm not very sugar coated in how I deliver, like, hey, this isn't it. This is not your best. Right. So let's let let's button this up and like for the kind what has happened to you in the last two and a half years of um being in our space, and I like will not take credit for that. That is like our number one, our whole team, but we have the greatest patients on the planet, yeah. Um, that are family.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So naturally they they trust who I have. Right. Right. And we build that from the ground up, and we build the person, not just the technique and not just the chiropractor. So uh I think that's the biggest difference is like who we are on the side of the table, yeah, matters a lot. That we can hold people in their things and then also see a vision for where we want to take them. Right.
SPEAKER_04Well, there's a difference being adjusted by a chiropractor who is in it to have the best adjustment, and they're gonna save and solve every problem with this one adjustment. I'm sorry, Mr. Chiropractor, that's all about you. It has nothing to do with me at all. Right. And that is the environment that Lauren started out in, actually, Dr. Lauren. And it's like, you're gonna do you're gonna be the best thing that ever happened to these people. And while chiropractors are amazing people, they are not the best thing that's necessarily going to happen to that person in a day. Where I find that Dr. Lauren here is believing in herself more. She's believing in the kid. I've been adjusted by her for many, many years, and so is my family. My kids love her. And there's there's a difference when you walk in and you don't have to say anything. You don't have to be like, oh, my right shoulder really, and my like left hip. It's more like, hey, kind of feeling something. Yep. Then she's figuring out. She trusts herself enough to figure it out now versus listening to the patient. So that environment, uh that's the that's a chiropractic office environment. Exponentially put into the avalanche is that state true event. So it's really, it's they coincide with each other, they're very inter intertwined and integrated with each other because it's all it's doctor TIF.
SPEAKER_05So when I'm not doing radio, I work with Fix It Ford and I do media and marketing for the autocare, and there's a lot of technicians who are wrenching their necks, their shoulders, their back, their arms, their hips, all the things. All the things. But there's those conversations you have with people who have their pre m misconceived notions, whatever. My conceived notions. That one about going to a chiropractor. They either are in or they're going, oh, absolutely not. They're not touching me. What do you have to say to those folks that have never given it a shot? And maybe they should consider why they should.
SPEAKER_01Well, in fix it forward world, yes, um, in any blue collar, right? Like, I mean, that doesn't, it doesn't matter who it is and what we're doing. Without your body functioning, you cannot do your work, aka your mission. Right. So if we look at pain at a like a deeper perspective on what pain really does, it like truly takes away the thing that you're meant to bring to the world. So yes, there's always the mechanics. There's I I believe everybody has some pattern of pain, right? Whether that's physical, mental, or emotional. Right. Um, but there it is truly uh basing it on a good or bad experience. Right. And just not understanding enough. We're like, we had a gentleman in yesterday, 50 years old, never been to a chiropractor like this. Um, and he couldn't stop looking at what we call the merrick chart. I call the um like the nerve bible. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. I like that. Couldn't stop looking at that. Like C1 controls this, C2 controls this, sacrum controls this, and like, oh my gosh. Yeah, it actually goes together. So it's bringing and merging mechanics, right, which is our left brain, right? Our left brain to potential of mobility. A man is, I mean, as soon as a woman or man loses mobility, we're in we're in a world of hurt. Oh, yeah. But when a man starts losing mobility, you we're gonna start seeing more than just physical pain. We're gonna start seeing functional things not go that good.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01Now, for a man, men are very open. We have these conversations often of like, I know you don't feel good.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01And it's not just your low back, it's not just your shoulder, it's not just your headache that you have every day. Tell me, tell me what feels off in life, and that also will change the pain pattern. Interesting. So it's not therapy, because like I mean, yes, I've been called all those things, right? But it would be therapy without the adjustment. The adjustment is the magic. Like that is the sauce. Right. And when you have somebody like us that can see beyond the pain pattern, the people don't on the table don't even believe that it could actually happen. Yeah. So often. And if the parent doesn't believe, the kid doesn't believe. Right. Right? A kid has a sprained ankle in their sport and they're out. If the parent has been trained in a model of injured and out, and there's no hope, the kid is too. And demobilize and rest and don't do anything. Oh my gosh, put it in a boot. The worst thing you can do to it, uh, ankle sprain is put it in a boot. Ah, yeah. But true, truly mobility. Yes. Like we we restore mobility. Yeah. And that will restore the mobility in your brain, the mobility in your body.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna throw another one at you here because I feel like this plays into it as well. You're sore, something's out, but also what you feed feed your body. You know, what you feed your body also matters because I imagine if you're you're roughed up, there's some inflammatory issues also going there, but there's food that feeds inflammatory uh symptoms. I imagine that's gotta nutrition's gotta be a big part of of how you intergrade or incorporate everything. I don't know why I'm lost for words. I just look over at you and you give me the she's like a dictionary. She gives me the right word, she gives me the right word. Co-host. Yeah, it works. But I imagine nutrition is also a big part too. Yep. Yeah. What do you do you usually guide folks on things like that as well? Like maybe stay away from this right now while you're really, you know, feeling the pain.
SPEAKER_01It's um I mean, the world is really toxic and inflamed. Of course. So if we consistently chased food, yeah, we're in trouble. Right. Because most people don't follow food.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So my take from the beginning has been because everybody wants the like, well, tell just tell me what to do, tell me what to exercise, tell me what to eat. I'm like, you're not gonna do it anyway. Right. Let's make sure your body system works the best. What we find is when you start to feel better, you start to feel better. Right. And that becomes the like that becomes a snowball. Yeah. That we can't even say like this was all chiropractic, of course. Yep. Like the the the amount of miracles that I've seen are like uh mind blown. But it's the it's the personal responsibility that that person says, like, okay, I am I'm going to do something with my life because now I don't have this pain. I don't need to be medicated. Right. I believe that something else can be for me. Yeah. Right. And I can feel good. And I can feel good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Gosh, that fits with both your chiropractor and your live events. This is why I took it off the table. Right. I get that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I do want to hear from you, Lauren, about the new patient special um this month because that special includes so many things, and like the first appointments, you get a folder of all this fun information. I still reference that for like my children. Yeah. Because again, I'm a data person and I love proving people wrong. But that stuff is that, but and you knew that about me, right? You know, I'm I need to see something and I need to see a change in order to keep investing in this. And that's a lot of people are like that. The economy's hard, money's tight, and we're gonna pay for something that we want to see actual things happen. How do you prove to us? And I'm gonna say that boldly, like, how do you prove to me that you're helping me?
SPEAKER_02So we have neurological scans and we do a neurological exam at every first patient appointment, and it's actually something that we do ongoing. It's not something that we just do one time and we're like, hey, this is where you're at now, and well, we'll see where it takes us. Yep. It's actually things that we do every, I don't know, every so often, depending on how the uh like a visit counts to come in. Right. Okay. Um, and that is taking the person's feelings out of it. Okay. So we communicate directly with the body with the scans to see how things are actually functioning and what's supporting, maybe what's not supporting the person. Sure. And then we put them to a test with the neurological exam. Right. And it's something as easy as standing on one foot.
SPEAKER_04Easy is in quotation, but there's yes. Trap, you should do it. Yeah, just stand on one foot. I I gotta do this on the um, but like the highly competitive part of me was like I was counting the entire time of like, eight, don't follow that again. Oh none of that actually mattered. Like I can't trick my body into doing these things, and then so she told me that, and I was like, fine. Disheartening a little bit, but data shows that it is working, and those things. And so, say visit one and then visit 16, you have a new scan, and ooh, baby, but my second scan looks so much worse than my first one.
SPEAKER_05Ooh. I'm on my or what am I missing? I'm on my foot, even though I'm going like this.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Well, that's fine. Yep. Yeah. You got just gotta do it for 30 seconds. It's just that we're we have you do it for 30 seconds with your eyes open, and then we have you do it with your eyes closed. Oh, that makes a big difference.
SPEAKER_04If you can still do it.
SPEAKER_05Are you catching me if I do that?
SPEAKER_04Uh I could bar my son almost fell over. I could barely catch him. So it's just, it's fun. Because it really does take all the emotion. I don't like to use that word emotion out of it. But I I want to feel good, and if you're not helping me feel good, then I'm gonna blame you. Right. And I'm gonna say that it's your fault I'm not feeling good. And then you're actually gonna look at those pieces of paper and be like, ooh, this is actually what we want to see. Yep. Why do you want to see that second scan look worse than the first one?
SPEAKER_02Because I'm still confused. The the patterns that someone comes in with at that first visit are probably not doing them any good. Sure. Like they came in with pain or they came in with something not functioning the way that it should that leads to, you know, stomach pains or whatever it could be. So we want to break those patterns down. And when we break patterns down, it does throw a little bit of extra chaos into the nervous system as it tries to find new pathways for things to function more efficiently. Sure. And probably 98% of the time, the second set of scans looks looks worse. But we we fully want it to look worse. And because you're better at some physics. You feel better though. Right.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Because we're we're breaking neurological pathways. Okay, yes.
SPEAKER_04And they explain all of this, but they also explain it alongside the goals that you set in that first appointment. So it isn't just here's your data, it's I see that you wanted to sleep better. Are you sleeping better? And when I say no, they look at me and say, Well, that makes sense because here's the patterns that we're readjusting, and you're probably gonna blah blah blah. Like, go see them, they'll tell you all of this fun stuff. But if you heard they're gonna change your patterns, throw you into chaos in order for you to feel better. Again, stay true event, healing touch chiropractic. Same, same. You get thrown into chaos in order to find a better aligned way of life. Yep.
SPEAKER_05Love this. Where can we find you online so we can send the folks there?
SPEAKER_02Oh boy. Let's see. We've got our website, htkiro.com. We've got our Facebook page, Healing Touch Chiropractic West Fargo, North Dakota. It's our new page. Our one had to go away. Oh, sure. Um, Instagram. I don't actually know what the handle is on Instagram. I think it's HTCro. Yeah. We're we're there too.
SPEAKER_05And are you doing TikToks?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_05You're not doing that. I feel like there's content. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Can you do it for us? Yes. Happily. You got like literally create content creation and fun videos that crazy things are.
SPEAKER_05I've got one for her here when we're done, too. So she's gonna hate me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Usually they're they're uh edgy. I love it. Yes. Um, so just one last thing for our listeners. Why should they come and take advantage of this new patient special in September?
SPEAKER_02Yep. So, I mean, as I was already discussing, it's back to school, and it's just fall brings so many transitions for people. The fun summer activities kind of have to stop, and then we have to get back into routines, and sometimes that's not always the easiest case. Plus, we're losing the sun. And really, people really struggle when the sun starts to kind of dwindle down. Yeah. And so with only $99, we're taking some of those maybe barricades that people are using as an excuse to not come see us away. Yeah. I love it. And we just let me know. You have no excuse.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there is no excuse to not come see us now. Well, $99, you get all that diagnostic information. Does that include your first adjustment? Sure does. So you guys, what? That's the gold right there. Includes your adjustment. Um, one really last thing. You mentioned you teach workshops. Where can they find workshops if they did sign up for an email sequence or something?
SPEAKER_02They are all free for the public. They're on our YouTube page. We also have a YouTube page all current past workshops. And then they're also an event on Facebook. So you can just go to our past events and you'll see lots and lots of.
SPEAKER_04We'll get those linked, especially that back to school when she just did last week, because you know, information is power, and we're happy to pass that along. So thank you both for being here today.
SPEAKER_02Yes, thank you. Good to see you both again.
