Hello and welcome to the waffle zone. My name is Uncle Steve. And I gotta tell you, you are in for a treat this week. Uh first of all, I ditched Matt. I got rid of him, kicked him to the curb this week. I told him just shut your yapper, quit yammering on, waffling on. No one wants to hear you talk about creator and Thor and Anvil and And I had to get somebody in place that would bring some quality, someone with some experience. And uh the first person that popped into my head was obviously Bill, but you know, Bill wasn't available. So uh the next person that I thought of, well, I mean Kirsty, but you know, Kirsty, Kirsty, this is her off week anyway, so I mean, not seriously, the first person that popped into my head this week, and you might call it, he might have called it divine intervention. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. But the person I got on the line with me that you're gonna be thrilled to find out about is the official hopeless romantic of Uncle Steve's Mega Maiden Zone. I've got Jay on the line. How are you, sir?
SPEAKER_02Groovy! I love you all. I am the hopeless romantic, and I love you all. And I'm I'm sorry you had to settle for me because you were looking for someone with quality and experience. But I, you know, you went through your Rolodex, went through the black book, and uh, you know, my last name is William, so uh I was at I was at the bottom after everyone shined you on. And so I'm I I'm just happy to be here. I don't care how it happened, I'm just happy it did happen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, same here. Well, I'm glad for well, thank you for being here because I, you know, you did have to accept my request, and I thank you for that. Certainly. Shirley. One thing I one thing I knew about Jay, though, is other than being a hopeless romantic, I know that he knows how the waffle go. Like if I said, hey Jay, do you want to do a waffle? I don't gotta, I don't gotta send him the big booklet that I have to send Matt every single week because he forgets every single week. Jay learns when he listens and he pays attention and probably took some notes or whatever, and you know.
SPEAKER_02I did. My my trusty pen and paper. I have different colored pens too. I have I have blue, I have black, and I have red.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you don't have one of those pens where you had to push the four colors down or whatever?
SPEAKER_02Dude, you know what? I do have one of the oh, I gave it to my uh my granddaughter. Shit, where I mean, shoot, where is it? Oh, that's strike one already, dude. Where where's the counter? No, I can't. We don't want to have I don't want to have to use a counter. I had one of those. No, I'll I'll do better. I promise. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01But you remember when we were younger, we all had those little pins, you know? Yes. Those are the best. Bad butt. Bad I can say ass. You can say those are those are those are cool. They were. They were or or as Bill always likes to say, they were they're kick-ass.

SPEAKER_02Those are kick-ass, dude. I was always envious of my friends that had them. Yeah. You know, so I need them in the in the in the oh shit. I mean, shoot. See, oh, this is going bad already. I I I need them and uh took their pens. But anyway. The more you say that, the more editing I have to do. I'm I know. I'm I'm trying. I promised I would do better and and I will try. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay, let's get you away from curse words. Let's get you away from curse words. Okay. So how about this? Before we get going here, if there's anybody here who doesn't know who you are and that you host a podcast, why don't you tell them about the podcast you host?
SPEAKER_02I host the Judas Priestcast with my uh longtime co-host and good friend Doomy McDoombutt. Say his name. Say his name. Frenchie McFrybutt. Mr. Doomy McDoombutt. Yeah, we've been uh doing the uh Judas Priestcast for a little while now, about three years. We took it over from uh from our good friend George and and Hattie, and uh man, they started it, it was awesome. There was another iteration before that, then it evolved to uh George and Hattie, and then uh it has uh come to us, to uh Jay and and and Jeff. Mr. Doomy, Mac Doombutt, and and Jeff does about 37 other uh podcasts. Gosh, he does. He's a busy king.

SPEAKER_02He really is. Yeah, we're uh we're on a little hiatus right now. We're gonna get going again. We all have busy schedules and uh you know things that happen. So uh we're gonna get it going again. We're on season, we just uh concluded season five. Okay so we're just gonna start season six. And uh yeah, we have a heck of a lot of fun. Jeff knows everything about music. I don't know anything about music. You know how to you know how to edit. I know how to edit well, no. It's not getting crazy. I edit. I don't know how to. You know how to put clips at the start and end. Yep, that's that's about it.
SPEAKER_01That's that that's all my uh computer prowess. You get that guy. What was the guy you had on the one time where he had to record the call for you? It was like the guy, the author, or whatever. Martin Popoff. Yeah, hey Martin Popoff, can you be on our podcast? Yeah, can you record it for us too, by the way?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's funny stuff. He was our first big guest get. He's a good guest, too. Yeah, he's great. He was fantastic. So uh, yeah, we started recording and and everything uh hit the fan. The shite hit the fan. Yeah. See? There you go. There you go. The shite the shite hit the fan, so he just said, ah yeah, screw it, you screwballs. You losers, you amateurs. Let me just be the host. So I mean we don't all write books and have all those skills. Exactly. So uh he was he was very gracious, great guy, great, great author, and uh we thank him every every day uh or every uh episode at the end of the podcast because I use his books uh almost exclusively for research and stuff. Cool. But uh yeah, I like I like about ten bands that I'm really into, and uh I like you know other bands here and there. Um we're gonna find out tonight. Yeah, my music knowledge is is fairly limited. I I like what I like, I stick with what I like, and that's it. And uh but Jeff knows everything about everything. Yeah, he listens to every obscure band. Mr. Doomy McDoom Butt is an encyclopedia and he's awesome. So it works, it's a good dynamic, it works well.
SPEAKER_01That's how you're supposed to do it. You're supposed to get one person that knows a lot, and then one person that's really dumb or whatever, and like on that podcast.

SPEAKER_01See, I started it and I'm the dumb one thinking I'll get someone smart. But then I went and got Matt. And Matt's not very smart either. So eventually we figured out and we got Kirsty. Now Kirsty. So that's so being that you are Matt now. Go ahead. No, no, no. You're mentioning that you have ten bands that you like. So this is the part where I'm gonna let you tell us about the music you listened to and see how many of these bands you've listened to this week.
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, um, we're gonna start out with uh the old Judas Priest because, and it's not just because I'm a huge Judas Priest fan, and it's not because I do a Judas Priest podcast, but it's because the album Redeemer of Souls had its 12th anniversary. So I had to listen. Yeah, yeah. 2014, Redeemer of Souls. So um yeah, I've always liked this record, um, despite its horrible, horrible production. Uh Glenn Tipton produced it. And uh just he he's not a good producer. He thinks he is, and he keeps doing it. Yeah, uh, but he's not. Um, but yeah, it's uh the first record of Richie Faulkner back to straight up metal after Nostradamus, which people crap on, but I love Nostradamus. I think it's a top ten priest record. Okay. I will die on that hill. I will die on the Nostradamus hell.
SPEAKER_03So screw all y'all.
SPEAKER_02I'm from Idaho and I'm saying y'all. Anyway. There you go. Um yeah, it's a straight up metal. I I I love the record. I just wish they would like re uh remix it or something, but uh they they probably never will. But yeah, the first one is Richie Faulkner, it's it's badass, uh, love that record. Um just production issues, but the songs, the the song quality is strong on that album. Love that album. Uh and then a new album came out from Deep Purple, which is one of my ten bands I love. Okay. And uh what was the new album called? Splat. Splat. Yeah. 24th Studio Record, and this has a great friggin' lineup. It it's almost uh mock two lineup, minus Richie Blackmore. Oh wow. Um yeah, Ian Gillen, Roger Glovery and Pace has Don Airy instead of John Lord. Okay. Um but Simon McBride, this is his second album with him. Um couple years ago they released it's called One or Equal One or One Equal, or I don't know what the hell it's called. Anyway, yeah, it was a that was a really good strong record. And Ian Gillen is in my p in my probably well on my Mount Rushmore of singers. Probably in my top four. Love Ian Gillen. Um you could tell he is in his 70s on this record, but it's still badass. Love this record. I was really pleasantly surprised. I was surprised by the last one a couple years ago. I thought it was really tight, really great. This one is fan friggin' tastic. Love this record. Question Um, yeah.
SPEAKER_01When did when was their very first album? Like what year did their very first album come out?
SPEAKER_02Oh, good question. They formed in '68. Um, I want to say '72. So gosh. So they're 71, 72.
SPEAKER_01So they've been around for almost 60 years. Yes. Golly.
SPEAKER_02That's amazing. Yeah, it was crazy. And and that was and and then um mock two is where they really got the popularity and hit their stride. Okay. Um within rock and uh what was it, Fireball, um, the one with smoke on the water, machine head, you know, okay. But uh, yeah, this one I was blown away, dude. It has such a great groove. And the flow is perfect. It has a perfect flow, perfect groove. It just it it has this, it has this like like this comfortable pocket. It's like a a groovy rock and roll pocket. It just puts you in this pocket, this rock and roll pocket, it wraps you in this rock and roll blanket, makes you all warm, it feeds you chicken soup. I mean, it is such a good, comfortable, great flow pocket record, and it's a perfect driving record. You you drive trucks, so I mean, pop pop this sucker on, you won't even know it hit you. It's such a good record. It's really a fun listen. It's happy, it's warm, it's comfortable. Uh the songs are really strong. Um I think it's their best work since Perfect Strangers. Oh, wow. Uh which I love. I have heard that one. Yeah, I think Perfect Strangers was like 86. Yeah, something like that. Something like that. And that is a fantastic record. That's uh probably my second, third, it's a top three uh deep purple record for me, Perfect Strangers. It just and it came out of nowhere, and it's mock two's back, and it's just boom! And here it comes, and they're knocking at your back door, and they are the perfect strangers. Oh man, I just friggin' love that record. But this one is just fantastic. Like I said, the best one since Perfect Strangers. So, what I had to do after I heard this one, of course, is I had to listen to Perfect Strangers. Ah, there you go. And uh I mean it's a masterpiece. I I love perfect stranger. It's probably in my top 15 records of all time. Dang. It's just so friggin' good. It's so solid. That has Richie Blackmore in it. Um I I just I I love Perfect Strangers. If you haven't heard Perfect Strangers in a while, pop that sucker on. It's a 10 out of 10, no skip trip, perfect record. Um God, I I can't say enough about perfect strangers.
SPEAKER_01I heard that album at Kirsty's house in Australia. Oh, perfect. Yeah, she had a plan. Nice.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's how good it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it it it it it goes over continents. It does. It flies the continents, man. We must remain perfect strangers. Yeah, and I love uh the subtleness of knocking at your back door. I mean, who doesn't love a good butt play song? I mean, just a great record. I mean, Ian Gillen has such a great sense of humor in everything he writes. I I mean, uh even the even the Sabbath record he did, you know, with uh trash and all that. I mean, he has such a great sense of humor in his lyrics and uh knocking at your back door just it's just it's so amusing, makes me laugh every time. So That's funny. That's good. Um and then for some reason, I don't remember why. Okay, um, but I popped in Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Ah, there you go.
SPEAKER_01Just because I mean Is Black Sabbath another one of your ten bands?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Oh, of course, yeah. They're the top three. Gotta make sure. Make sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So uh pop them in. I mean, national acrobats, ab or cadaver, killing yourself to live. I mean, come on. Come on, man. Incredible. Spiral architect. Yeah. And I don't know what made me do that because I'm in my car all day, dude. So I'm I'm I'm watching YouTube, I'm watching reels, I'm I'm listening to podcasts, I'm listening to romance novels. I mean I I got I got it all going on. So I I don't know what made me think think of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. It was, I think, Monday or Tuesday, so but I did and I put it on because I love it. Um and then I was talking to my best friend and he was talking about uh he got some rare records. Um and he got a rare uh Rage for Order from Queens Reich. Okay. And uh I I like that record. Yeah. But it made me think of Queens Reich, which is one of my bands. Okay. Love Queens Reich. Um, but then I thought, oh man, if I'm gonna listen to some Queens Reich right now, not that Rage for Order sucks, it's a badass record. Um but I put on the warning because I love the warning. Yeah, the the warning's awesome, yeah. I agree. Oh god, such a good record, and it brings back such good memories because it came out when I was in high school and it was part of my like like uh trifecta or my forefecta or quad quadfectr quadrifecta quadrifinia or whatever. But when I was on your show last time, I was talking about um how I was listening to uh uh uh Power Slave like nonstop. It was one of one of the records that I always listened to. Yeah. Along with Warning. The Warning. Excellent. Yep, and Defenders of the Faith and uh Restless and Wild. Okay, accept Accept. And and those were which is another one of my bands. Okay. But uh you're seeing the 80s theme here. Yes, but uh yeah, so um, yeah, that's it has sentimental value to me and the warning, just another just amazing record. Yeah. Um 10 out of 10. No skip. Trip, baby, the warning.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think the warning is an amazing album.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, I love it so much. And Mind Crime is amazing. Love Mind Crime. I mean, probably their best record, but I always reach for the warning and I don't know why. Maybe I've I've had too much Mind Crime. Yeah. Um but yeah, I always reach for the warning. Uh and then just because I always listen to Zeppelin, which is probably my number one. Okay. I love Zeppelin. Zeppelin's my favorite band of all time. Okay. Um and Led Zeppelin 3 is my favorite record of all time. Okay. Because it has my favorite song of all time. Which is Since I've Been Loving You. Since I've been Loving You. Okay. I am the Hopeless Romantic Dude. So Since I've Been Loving You is a perfect song. It's my favorite song of all time. I listen to Zeppelin 3. Well, I listen to Zeppelin all the time, but I listen to Zeppelin 3 all the way through. Probably once a month. Just because I love it so much. I mean. I mean, one of the preeminent metal songs that started it all, man. Immigrant Song, Friends into Celebration Day, Since I've Been Loving You, Out on the Tiles, dude, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, That's the Way. Come on, man. Come on, let's go.

SPEAKER_02Oh, Zeppelin 3 is so badass. I love that record so much. Top five record of all time for me. Um you said it was your favorite. Yeah, top five of all time. Of all records. Okay. Of all time. Of all time. Yeah, it it's it's my favorite Zeppelin record. My favorite song of all time is what you're confusing. Yeah. Since I've been loving you, it's my favorite song of record. Favorite song of all time. Yes, come on, man. Zeppelin 3. I can't get enough of it. Never gets old. Love it. So, um, I listened to more podcasts and and books and all that than than music, but I knew I was coming on. So, in honor of this appearance, I listened to Ta-da! Matt, you're gonna want to hear this. Oh boy. I listened to Sinjutsu. Oh, hey, there you go. There you go, Matt. Yes. And uh I know I said some pretty cruel things when I was on your podcast about Sinjutsu. Yeah. And I've posted recently how it's unlistenable. Okay. And uh yeah, it it's unlistenable. God, I I hate that record. Oh man. Matt, you're you're not missing anything, dude. Uh is Iron Maiden one of your ten? Yes. Okay. Iron Ma I grew up with Maiden, dude. I mean, I know, I know.
SPEAKER_01I mean I grew up with some stuff that it's not in my tin, so I've I've told my story.
SPEAKER_02Maiden is is up there. Okay. I mean, I I love Maiden. I I I have Maiden Memorabilia. I've Maiden Merch. Maiden and me. We go we go back a long way. I was just getting into metal when Maiden came out. Um Yeah, it was one of my first records. One of my first loves was Maiden. But um, yeah, Sinjutsu. Oh my god, dude.
SPEAKER_01Oh, see, I I love that album. So why? I mean, but see, you don't like track is a good one. You like the shorter, you like shorter, punchier songs, and I like where they are now. I like what they're doing. You know, because it's either that or nothing right now. They're not gonna change. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And and they just keep getting progressively worse. I'm sorry to say, dude. But I mean the title track, which is the opening track with the war drums, and I hate war drums. Oh it's just it's just three minutes too long, man. That song can be cut down three minutes. It just it keeps going, and it's like the Energizer Bunny song, which is all of Modern Maiden. Just drives me up a friggin' tree. Uh Stratego is the only song I can kind of deal with.
SPEAKER_01Um What about Days of Future Pass? That's only a four-minute song or five-minute. It's the shortest one on the album.
SPEAKER_02Days of Future Pass! It's it's just boring. The album's boring. It it sounds like recycled Iron Maiden, like like Iron Maiden paint by numbers. Like, oh, what are we gonna do? Well, let's redo this song, but just change it a little bit. Let's redo this song from ten years ago. Well, we'll what we'll do is we'll put a long intro in the beginning that's unnecessary. Uh the intro's either. And then we'll do the same thing, and then we'll end it.
SPEAKER_03But but we'll add some acoustic this time. Yeah, that'll get 'em. Okay. But it's the same song. Yeah, let's just recycle this.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's so boring, dude. I'm sorry. I just there's nothing exciting on this record. It's just recycled, modern, maiden, and it's unlistenable, and I wanted to blow my brains out. But I but I did I did listen to it, dude. I did listen to it. Just just for you.
SPEAKER_01We'll agree to disagree on that, but uh, yeah, you know, we're all allowed to have our opinions, you know, so. Yep. Let me see how far I got.
SPEAKER_02Oh. I have it written down. Uh I got to Death of the Celts. Celts. I got to Death of the Celts.

SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I almost and I've heard the parchment paper one, and it's way too long and boring, and I've heard the Hell on Earth one, which is garbage. But Oh, Hell on Earth is awesome. I got halfway through the the the Celt song, and I was like, oh my god. Make it stop. Please make it stop. So So you made it stop. Sorry, all you Maiden fans, but and then uh this is the last the last album I listened to this week. I needed a palate cleanser on my way home. Sounds like Matt talking now. Yeah. So, of course, I needed to hear Remember Tomorrow, which is Maiden's best song ever. Performed by Maiden's best lineup ever. Paul Diano and Clive Burr. I mean, come on, man. Clive Jesus Christ. The wife beater and Clive, yeah. The drum beater. Well, he he beats the drums. I I don't care what he does, but he's Maiden's best drummer. That'll never change. I mean, even Nico, Nico, Nico said that Clive is the maiden's best drummer. Come on, man.
SPEAKER_01He is I've never heard Nico say that. Yes. He heard it. He's not gonna talk bad about Clive, obviously. We all love Clive. I mean, don't get me wrong, we all love Clive here, so he's amazing.
SPEAKER_02But uh, so I had to hear Remember Tomorrow, so but I you know I didn't skip Prowler, so I well, if I want to hear List uh Remember Tomorrow, I'm gonna listen to the whole damn record. Yeah. So I did. And uh you know, Iron Maiden's debut record is my favorite Iron Maiden record.
SPEAKER_01It's my favorite Iron Maiden record uh with Paul Diano on vocals.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and most people would say killers. Yeah. Most people like killers better me either. Um I mean Prowler, come on. Run and free I could do without. I like Running Free. That was a a hit single and and it serves purpose. I mean Phantom of the Opera, come on. Phantom of the Opera's amazing. Charlotte the Harlot, Iron Maiden, come on. That record is a masterpiece. It's a good album. Beautiful. It's beautiful. Um if if if they substituted something for Running Free, which uh it was a big hit when it first came out, and they were playing it at the carton horses and air guitar into it. Yeah, well, it was quick and punchy and fun.

SPEAKER_02Good sing along, you know. Punky-ish, I guess, a little bit, but yeah. Yeah. So so that was your last album? That was the last album I listened to this week. Yeah, I'm gonna do it. Alright, well Steve pregame said he has some doozies. So I want to hear it.

I'm gonna I'm gonna look right now before I before I tell you, I'm gonna do a little counting and I'm just gonna see how many albums here I've never listened to before. So I got one. Wow. SPEAKER_01I talked to I won't say that right now. I won't say that right now. I talked I talked to somebody once that was on that deep dive network and asked them what they did for them and got a big zilch out of that. So but you know, maybe they do something for people. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I I started my week off with it with an old faithful because I really I wasn't on the road yet. I was just driving locally. I think I was, you know, Sunday morning driving around. So you're in Yellowstone. Yellowstone. Yeah, old Faithful, man. Oh. I'll tell you what, uh, I have been I have been there once. Alright. And I thought Old Faithful was but the most overrated thing I've ever seen. We stood there and watched it and I was like, this is it? This is all with all the hypes about. Yeah. Overrated part. Dun dun dun dun dun. Oh, yeah, exactly. So but I started off with a with a black label society. Ooh, the new BLS? Yep, their newest album, Doom Crew Incorporated, which Oh no, no, no, I didn't. That's not the newest. The newest one is um Engines of Demolition. Yes. Uh but I listened to Doom Crew Incorporated, and I've really been digging that one. And I kind of thought, oh, you know, here I go again. I'm gonna be black label society in all week. All right. He's gonna get on a tangent. I thought I was. But then uh I went to work on Monday, and uh here it here it goes. Here's the band that I went on a that I listened to. Well, you'll hear what I listen to. Drumroll. This is a band that you will definitely know about when I say their name. At the very least, Radio Hits, whatever it is. It's it's a band that I've listened to for a long time, but I don't ever go, I've never gone on a deep dive.

SPEAKER_01I've got maybe I've got maybe three albums of theirs that when I play them, I'll play all three of them, and I love all three of them start to finish. Well, that's a good start. Yes. So the album, the band is they have a big catalog.

SPEAKER_01Okay, uh, so okay, um, I said that I listened to 16 albums. Okay, so so this is a band, again, that this is as soon as I name their out the first album I listened to, it's it's well, it's one of the best selling albums in the world. Wow, Dark Side of the Moon. You got the right band. Dude, yeah, that was easy. Wrong album, right band, though.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah. Dark side is one of those two, yeah. The best selling of all time, yeah. Yeah. So beautiful. We're talking Pink Floyd. Oh, man, the early years, the the the with relics that put the first two records together with that dude. Why can't I think of his name or my god, those are such good records.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, we're gonna go.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, go ahead, go ahead. So sorry.
SPEAKER_01So I listened, I started out my week just listening to The Wall. Because I listened to The Wall a week or two ago, and you know, as an older guy now, and with kids that are adults, and and you hear that album, and it's it's a story, it's it's a it's about him losing his dad and just growing up and just a lot of things. I love that record so much. It's so, so when you think about when I think about it, how many different little pieces of music and just little things all over that album.
SPEAKER_05You know, look, mommy, there's an appling up in the sky.
SPEAKER_01And there's like, and then they do that thing that ooooh dun dun.
SPEAKER_02It's so good. Scary and it's so gloomy. Yes, and they go they go from happy to like fucking scary. And it's so well produced. I mean, for back then. I mean, it's so well produced. Well, it's it's Bob Esnery. 1979. I mean, it's just fantastic. It is. So anyway, go ahead. I'm sorry, I keep I keep I keep getting in the way.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, so I listened to that. Um I love it. And I and I just, you know, I listened to it a couple weeks ago, like literally it brought tears to my eyes a couple weeks ago because I just thought so many things were just hitting me in a different way than they, you know, what they hit me when I listened to it when I was in my early twenties or teens or whatever. Right. And so I started kind of thinking about Pink Floyd, and I thought, I was reading a little bit here and there, and I thought, so the last album they made before that, or I'm sorry, the last album they made with Roger Waters was called The Final Cut, which was pe pieces like leftovers of the wall and things like that, supposedly. Um David Gilmore was is not a fan of it at all. They didn't even really participate in any of the writing. Um, but they put the final cut out, and I thought, you know what? I've never ever played the final cut. So I was like, I wonder what that sounds like. It came out after the wall. And so I played it, and I was like, you know, there's some decent stuff here, it's alright. You know, it didn't nothing really stood out to where I was blown away. Yep. And so it's it's it's boring. Yeah. And I think, but but then I thought, now this is where I feel like we're gonna go a different direction here. But then I was reading more and I would read a bunch about the next album they made, which was gonna be the first album they ever made without Roger Waters. Um it was called A Momentary Lapse of Reason, came out in 87, and in 88 I got my first job. And I remember Pink Floyd was touring because a bunch of people that I worked with were gonna go see Pink Floyd, and at the time I really wasn't in on Pink Floyd at 16 years old, you know. I uh naturally you would have heard another brick in the wall or you know, money or whatever on the radio. Right. But I wasn't really in on them, and all these people, all these teenagers that I worked with were all talking about going to see Pink Floyd. Yep. And uh I never ever regretted it more in my life not going until this week. I listened to I turned on a momentary lapse of reason, which I'm counting that as an album I never heard before, but I recognized three or four songs on it. I recognized Dogs of War and uh No More Turning Away and um uh got a lot of radio play. And then the um bum bum bum boom now into the distance, liver of black. Into the point. Oh, learning to fly. Learning to fly. Yes. And uh, because I heard it and I was like, I was just I I put the album on and I really didn't know what to expect, and it started, and I just was like in a real chill, it's so chill. I was like, God, I'm really liking it. I'm like, I really was liking it. And so I thought, you know what I'm gonna do now? I'm gonna play the they recorded that tour on a live album. I was like, I'm gonna listen to the live album with with the with that thing on it, with uh, with that window, whatever they would have played. They play almost every song on a it's called Delicate Sound of Thunder. And that was when I really I was just like, this sounds like it would have been such a killer concert to be at. Right. Just incredible, just the vibe. The band never gets up there and says, ah, everyone is singing along. You know, it's just they just play. They just play, and every song's a hit, other than the new ones. They're all hits. And um at the very end, hey, we love you, thank you, good night. Like, wow, that's great. And that's it. But I I when I heard that, I just thought, oh, I could have gone and seen this show. And I'm not a guy that's like, I remember when I was in high school and like the Rolling Stones came, and all these people were like, oh, I'm gonna go see them because I uh that way I can say I saw the Rolling Stones. I'm not that kind of guy. I don't care if I ever saw uh I kind of would like to see the Rolling Stones maybe now. Like I'd appreciate them a little bit now, but like I'm never I'm not one of those kind of guys. Like, I'm not like the oh I gotta see them just so I can say I saw them. I'm not that.
SPEAKER_02But now they're like all nostalgic or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01But now, oh my gosh, I I I when I heard that how great that album was and just the the music and the interludes, and I was just like, it's an incredible live album. Delicate Sound of Thunder is an incredible live album. So it's very good. So then next I was like, okay, let's just continue here. So I went to the next album called The Division Bell, which was I guess their last uh their last real record, and then they had the the um one that came out later, um The River, or the I think it was called, um, which was just music stuff that they put out after after Richard Wright passed away. But I listened to Division Bell, and I don't remember anything really standing out too much. I've I only listened to it once. It's kind of boring. And so, yeah, I don't know. I I I after I'll tell you about all this, maybe I would go back and listen. Listen to it again. But after that, I was like, okay, well, they got a live album for this one too, called Pulse. So I was like, I'll listen to Pulse, which I thought that was a great live album as well. I uh it was really cool that they had uh Learning to Fly on it. Mm-hmm. But Delicate Sound of Thunder, I loved all the background vocals that he had on there. The the the I guess it's three ladies that were singing. Yes, you know, they do the one song. But all the their background vocals on all the new songs were real big, and I just thought they sounded fantastic.
SPEAKER_02Such a great live band. Oh that that album you're talking about uh doesn't really strike me like like the older stuff does. Um I love the older stuff a lot. Sure, sure. Yeah. But that live record, although it does have a lot of the newer stuff from that album, uh I mean they are so professional and so good, and musicianship is so great that it it it compensates for and everything's always better live, anyway. Oh, of course, yeah. So it more than compensates for it. But yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So so I got through that, so now I thought, okay, I've heard The Wall, The Final Cut, Momentary Laps of Reason, and Division Bill. So I've heard their last, you know, oddly enough, it's weird to think from 79 through 94 was four albums, you know? And one of them was just kind of a retread album that he but I will say on um I'm gonna go through all these multiple ways, but on the final cut, there were some pieces in there that I did find interesting because he was still talking about his dad. You know, there was some interesting lyrical stuff.
SPEAKER_02Um it's uh yeah, very war-based and and uh personnel. Personal based and emotion-based. Absolutely. There's a lot of that stuff and I don't maybe looking at it later in life. I I I remember uh listening to it and thinking, you know, musically, yeah, it's kind of boring. But I mean maybe looking at it uh emotionally and and as you get older and as you can relate to um the lyrics i in a in a you know a a deeper way. Maybe I should revisit that. But I remember thinking it's boring, but when you're coming at it with your age and you're about as old as me, yeah. Um I I I see how you can see it differently, and and I see how I could see it differently.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I know that Delicate Sound of Thunder would would have done nothing for me when I was sixteen. Yes. So I worked at this job, and I remember we had a it was a restaurant, and we had a manager, and he was really into Pink Floyd around that time. That you know, he was older than me, and he let me borrow um The Wall, um Wish You Were Here. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, those three. But I and the one that really struck maybe he didn't let me borrow Dark Side, but I definitely remember Wish You Were Here because I remember hearing it just being like blown away at how good it was.
SPEAKER_02Like from five songs such a good record, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love the way they opened Delicate Sound of Thunder and Division or Pulse with uh with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, you know. It just that big, long, long, long piece of you know, till it gets all the way up to Dow Down It's just ah so okay. It's so good. So next up, I went to another album I've never heard before, and it was the album before the wall. Because I was like, I've never heard this. It's called Animals. Oh, my favorite.
SPEAKER_02It's my favorite favorite Floyd album.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't remember uh loving it or hating it. I don't remember, I just kind of remember I was just listening because at this point I'm like, okay, I'm just I'm just now I'm digging around. So I listened to Animals, and there was some interesting stuff on there. Then I was like, then I just I think I started going backwards. So I went Wish You Were Here. Mm-hmm. And then I went Dark Side of the Moon. Amazing to think Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here were just back-to-back albums they made.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that's their groove. So then I I think then I just started picking random ones. So I I I wish I would have I I listened to Obscured by Clouds, which I think was their second album.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01And that was um different. Uh let's see when when that was Metal, you know, M-E-D-D-L-E. Yes, M-E-D-D-L-E. And that has um a piece of music on it. I think it's called Those Were the Days or One of Those Days, one of these days. And that was a really cool piece of music when I heard it. I was like, oh, I've heard this before. Really cool. Metal was before obscured by clouds. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02But they're back to back.
SPEAKER_01Was obscured by clouds before Dark Side of the Moon?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Okay, okay. Dark Side of the Moon's their next one. Goes Metal, Obscured by Clouds, Dark Side of the Moon.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I was still going in reverse order then. So Obscured by Clouds, Metal, uh, and then I went, okay, this was their second album, I believe. Uh The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Is their second album? That's their first. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_021967, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I went all the way back to the beginning there. Great record. And I know you're not going to like what I'm about to say now, especially being what you just said. I'm so glad that Sid Barrett was on drugs and disappeared because he was horrible. His his his maybe he wasn't horrible, but what he offered to the band made them sound just like a little psychedelic, but with the most generic kind of singer that a whole bunch of 60s bands would have had.
SPEAKER_02You know, it would have been great for uh uh oh, this would have been great if I remember the name of the movies. Oh, I got them written down. Groovy baby.
SPEAKER_04Oh, oh yeah, yeah, that guy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. That would have been perfect. But yeah, I mean, it it is kind of a caricature. Yeah. 60s. I mean, when you think of 60s music and with with the the high pants and and everything else, I mean, yeah, it's per it's the perfect soundtrack.
SPEAKER_01He just I I did not like his singing at all. I just thought it it doesn't like especially when you compare him to who he got replaced by. Like David Gilmore has a really nice voice. And so then the next album, I guess, would have been A Saucer uh A Saucer Full of Secrets. Yep. That's the second one, 1968. Which Sid Barrett sings the last song on that album, which is to me the absolute worst song on the album. And the rest of it's I don't I don't remember, like I said, this is a lot of listening during the week. Um then they did a Go ahead. Is that the one with Bicycle? I don't remember any of the songs. I wasn't looking at the song title, so uh then they did one called More, which I believe is a movie soundtrack. Yeah, the from the film More. Yeah. And then they did uh and these may not be in order, but and then they did one called uh uh Umago. Umago, you are going in order.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 1969. A beautiful year, the year I was born. I love 1969. And I love 69.
SPEAKER_01They should have named you Umago. They should have. Umago Williams.
SPEAKER_02Would have been weird, but whatever.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, I don't remember liking Umagouma. I think there was a lot of weird, a lot of weird on that album.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it's a psychedelic uh trip that means nothing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think wait, I think that's the first that was the one where the first four songs or so were live. And then the rest of the album was of something each band member did a different song or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Uh and it was really weird. Maybe I I'd have to I have to. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but but I I know um side one has like two songs. Okay, okay. Um yeah, and the first song is from the Piper Gates of Dawn, which is the first album.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so maybe that is what it was because it was it's a live recording. Yeah. Okay, you're probably right. So then I listened to another album I've never heard before, and I don't remember much from it at all. I don't remember once I get past it, well, you're gonna see in a minute where I went back to. Adam Heart Mother, I listened to that one. You're going in order, man. Perfect. Okay. And from there, I think I'd played everything, other than the very, very newest one called The River. I never that's the one I didn't play. So then after that, eventually, I went back um, and I may have skipped around because I was playing some other bands after that, but I'll I'll go into those next. Um, but I went back to the wall, listened to the wall again, and I don't know, let's see if I can find it while I'm on the while I'm here with you, because I'm gonna see how many times I I went back to a momentary lapse of reason and I played it over and over and over and so this week it looks Okay, wait a minute. I need uh I don't have it for this week. Okay, so well you know what? Let me see if I can let me find it real fast here. I can tell you how many times I listened to it this week because I only started listening to it this week. So it shouldn't be too hard to uh Yeah, to calculate. To calculate. Uh Okay. It appears that I listened to that out a momentary lapse of a reason ten times this week. Yeah, I just well That's awesome. And when you dri when you drive and you're just driving, driving, driving, driving, I would it would end, and I would just be like, I want more, and I'd start it over and play it again. And then when I would get done with that, I would put on delicate sound of thunder after after every after a couple, two or three listens, I'd be like, now I want to hear all these songs live, you know? Oh man, I I couldn't believe how much I loved momentary lacquer uh uh Momentary Lapse of Reason.

SPEAKER_01I was like, and you know, I I read up, I was reading about how um, you know, uh oh um shoot, I can't think of his name.
SPEAKER_02Uh the the uh David Gilmore, uh the bass player guy that everyone hates.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, him.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you're killing me, man.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I can't believe I can't think um I can see his face. Yes. Let me let me go to Wikipedia. I was reading about him on Wikipedia earlier.
SPEAKER_02And apparently he's an asshole, and I should know this because I have pretty much all the Roger Waters. There you go. Roger Waters records. I just yeah, had a momentary lapse of reason, man.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And I'll say uh I'll just generically say about him. He does come across as a jerk at times, but what a musical genius.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Golly. When when I think when you think about the wall, and and you think at one point everything on that record was just something in his brain. Yes, that is incredible to get all that out and just have it be that good. It's just what a great story. All the great pieces of music and little small things, just oh, so good. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and and the production and put that airplane in there and put that little kid saying, Look, mommy, there's an airplane up in the sky.
SPEAKER_01I think that is the sweetest sounding voice of any person I've ever heard in my life. Yeah. It's the sweetest sounding kid ever. I mean, exactly. You know, and his dad was off at war.

SPEAKER_02You know, so but how it plays with your emotions just through the music. Yeah. For like a f a four-piece band, five-piece band, whatever. I mean, it goes from from uh melancholy or happy or happy into melancholy and then into dun dun dun.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. You know? I'm gonna have to listen to this entire episode just to edit you out. Oh, I I said it again.

So um, yeah, but so momentary lapse of reason, like I I was so excited because you know, when you hear an album, for the I might have heard it once back in the day because I seem to recognize some of it. But when you hear it and you go, wow, I love this. Yes. I just and you know, Roger Waters was very critical of the lyrics and things like that. So when I was listening, there was one time where I listened where I tried to pay attention to all the lyrics, like read them. There was one song that I thought lyrically was kind of a one slip, you know, where it's just talking about a romantic encounter with a woman. And I thought, well, you know, that's a little bit, but it, but, but it was done classy. He didn't do it like, you know, in a way like the way Motley Crue would have done it or something like that, you know.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. So, you know, um, but yeah, I so for so I listened to everything, and I, you know, I kind of as I listened, I kind of thought, here's one I don't want to go back to. I pro I'll probably never ever go back to the first two albums ever again. Um, I would. Yeah, um a lot of them I probably wouldn't go back to. But you know, I might because I but there were good pieces throughout a lot of them. Like you'd I'd hear little things where I'd go, oh, I really like this. Right.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So just if you want uh amalgamation of of the uh Sid Barrett stuff, just get an album called Relics. It puts all those together in a precise way, and it has all the best stuff, and uh yeah, just go with that. Anyway, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01So as I was listening uh to um Dark Side of the Moon. No, no, no. Wish you were here. You got the song Have a Cigar. You're gonna go far. You can go hi. So do you know who sings lead vocals on that? Uh who? Nobody in Pink Floyd sings that.
SPEAKER_02Uh they got someone, I know the story. Um, they were in a studio and they were good friends with whoever else was recording.
SPEAKER_01He was signed to their management, yeah, the guy.
SPEAKER_02And he was recording next door. Right. He was recording next door, and I can't think of the name right now. I'm about to tell you. Um yeah, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Because it's at the edge of my tongue. But yeah, Roger Waters either couldn't sing it. He either couldn't or whatever, and then David Gilmore didn't want to. He was like, I'm not singing that song. Which seems really weird. Yeah. Because they're the two singers, and like Richard uh Richard Wright, it wouldn't have fit him. You know, so so they got a guy named Roy Harper. Oh, right. He's supposedly this really influential, kind of acoustick-y, kind of folky guy, at least based on the album that I listened to. Because as I when I heard it, I was like, I was just reading about it, and it's and I was like Well, who is this guy? I thought it was I thought it was uh David Gilmore.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01And then I looked and it was like Roy Harper.
SPEAKER_02Roy Harper.
SPEAKER_01Who's that? Read about it, yeah. Yeah. So I I I was reading and he had a bunch of albums, but there was one that if you go on Apple Music, it said this is his best album to listen to. And I know that uh fortunately Matt's not here to hear the name of this album in person because I know he would like it. The name of the album by Roy Harper was called Stormcock.
SPEAKER_02Oh dear.
SPEAKER_01It's one word, and um, you know, I listened to one word makes it longer. Yeah. I uh but I listened to it and it was just bulky and it was all acoustic. I don't remember if there was drums at all on the album. Five songs um and it was okay. Like I would never because I wanted to hear, I thought, oh, it meant maybe he's got a really cool he doesn't sound I I couldn't even recognize I would have never if I heard that, I never would have gone, oh that's the guy that sings have a cigar.
SPEAKER_02I never would have picked it up. Never would. Yeah, and and forever I thought it it it was, you know, internal. Uh-huh. But uh and I heard that story, I don't know where I heard it or read it or whatever. Yeah. But yeah, that's that's amazing. It's such a good record. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01So I listened to another um I I I went and listened to David Gilmore's first solo album called David Gilmore. Came out in 1978. So while while uh Roger Waters would have been riding The Wall, David Gilmore was working on what I thought was a pretty average solo album. Just didn't think anything spectacular about it.
SPEAKER_02Never heard it. The second album I ever owned in the world was The Wall.
SPEAKER_01Okay. By the way, just side note. Then uh I decided, you know, I'm I'm going through all these different members of Pink Floyd and just trying or different avenues, you know, and kind of deep diving off the cliff here. I was like, you know what? I was reading about um Richard Wright. No, no, no, I was reading about the drummer, uh Nick Um Mason, and how he worked he worked on uh Sid Barrett's solo album with him. And so I thought, you know what? I haven't heard that either. I'm gonna try to listen to a Sid Barrett album, and I thought that's gonna be a stretch because Yeah, you're not you're already not a fan. I'm already not liking this so I turn I turned on his uh debut album called The Mad Cap Laughs, Sid Barrett. Never heard it. I made it through about a minute and a half of the first song before I just was like, I'm not gonna waste my time because I'm not gonna like this. It's like an hour-long album, and I'm not gonna want to listen to an hour of him. I already listened to the first album by Pink Floyd. That was enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So then I listened to this is the last album I uh not the last one I listened to of the week, but it's the last one on my list. Because I the last one I was listening to, I was listening to The Wall right before we started talking. And um Perfect. Great driving record, too.
SPEAKER_02I believe this is Children are our future.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, go. I believe that this is the only solo album by Richard Wright. And it's another one that I'm you know, Matt, you know, would be disappointed to not hear in person, the title of it. Uh Richard Wright, for anyone who doesn't know, he is the keyboard player and noisemaker in uh Pink Floyd, came up with lots of sounds and things. But the album was called Wet Dream by Richard Wright.
SPEAKER_02He's he's having a wet dream about it.
SPEAKER_01And I gotta say, it was a And his name is Richard, so go ahead. Yeah. It was a pretty enjoyable album because you listen to that and you can hear a lot of Pink Floyd sound. Because when he passed away, they all said you take away his sound from Pink Floyd and you take away kind of the thing that kind of held it all together. And there's a lot of music on there. It's not the greatest album in the world, but I enjoyed it. Like I enjoyed a lot of the songs, and I just thought, oh, this is nice. Because you know, he has a very, you know, when he sings like uh in that one song when he's like, Every year is getting shorter. You know, when he kind of his voice, there's something very war, very warm about his voice that's just very pleasing to hear. It just fits very well, you know. Yes. And so yeah, and I like I really I did like his voice, and I didn't get to a Nick Mason solo album. I kind of ran out of time. Uh because I listened to uh 500 minutes worth of a momentary lapse of reasons, but um kind of overindulged. Yeah, a little bit, but you know, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so well.
SPEAKER_02That's good, that's all that matters.
SPEAKER_01So uh that's all that counts, man. I know you said you have a lot of podcasts.
SPEAKER_02I do. I I love the uh Pink Floyd tangent, though. Yeah, we could do a whole podcast on that. Oh man. I'm I'm I'm heading that direction, so. Alright. Uh yeah, I do have a crap load of podcasts. See, I didn't say shite. A crap load of podcasts. I'm just gonna say uh before I get to my podcast. I spent the per the the first part of the week watching the videos of all the like the Europeans coming over for the soccer tournament. Saying how much they love America. A lot of 'em, I don't know if you've ever i if you've seen any of those. But a lot of Europeans who've been told that uh America's dangerous, uh, the United States you're you're gonna get shot, people are rude, uh, they're all racists and Nazis and whatever, and they they come to experience the uh the World Cup soccer match, and they just fall in love with the country and and the people and the generosity, um, and and they just love it. And there's so many videos out on YouTube just with with all these foreigners coming to our beautiful country and falling in love with it, and saying how they were lied to by their their media, and saying how how much they they enjoy the hospitality, and the people are so nice and and and and uh you know the food, the people, the hospitality, everything else. And there are a bunch of videos that that just uh enhance this, and uh I could not be prouder, uh, especially this week, this week. That's awesome. Uh being an American, and I I just I got hooked into all those videos being a proud American, having uh kids in the armed forces, and uh loving my country and and being a great patriot, and and I I got locked into those for a while.
SPEAKER_01Well that's let me I'll add this since you said all that. That's first of all, that's great to hear. You know, I I I kind of find when there's a lot of you hear a lot of negative stuff, it's usually like turn off the TV, turn off the computer, go out and just talk to people, you know.

SPEAKER_01People are a lot there's obviously bad, but there's a lot of good too. There's mostly good. That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_02Your state of Texas is highlighted in a lot of these videos. Oh, that's true, because they were having the games here, I guess, right? Yes, with the southern hospitality and everything else, and uh the Texas barbecue, especially. There there are a ton of uh Texas barbecue videos.
SPEAKER_01Good thing they didn't meet me, then they would have thought we were all jerks.

SPEAKER_02Exactly. No, and it it was it was heartwarming. Nice, that's good to hear. Yeah, I love my country, and uh I I just love seeing those. Awesome. So, all right, getting to uh my pods, um, I gotta go with Locked on Zags, which is a podcast uh hosted by Andy Patton, and it's about Mike Gonzaga Bulldogs, man. My favorite college basketball team. Oh, okay. And there's a podcast every day, even though the college basketball season is very short. There's a podcast every day, always talking about recruiting, uh, transfer portal scheduling, um, you know, former players in the NBA, former players abroad. Yes. Um just keeps me in contact. I first moved up here in the early nineties, probably ninety-two, I think. Um and I started uh following Gonzaga basketball and uh they sucked. And then they started getting better and better, and then they, you know, eventually have become a blue blood and the icon that they are now. Um and I I lived all of it. You know, I've been I've been to games where you could just walk in, you know, uh in an empty arena, yeah, up to now I I can't get or afford a ticket. Yeah, I gotcha. You know, so I've I've grown up with them um and I love them. And uh Andy Patton does locked on zags and and I listen every day religiously, and it's fantastic. Okay, so music from a lifetime. Ah, Bill. King Bill. Yes, King Bill. Love King Bill, such a beautiful human. He is. Um he's doing the Scotch of the Month, 31 Days of Scotch. So everybody check in and see what Bill's drinking. Can you smell what the Bill is drinking? Uh he had two of them this week. Um, Crowded House Woodface with the lovely Helen as co-host. And I had never heard this record, and I don't need to hear it again, but I got I got to hear Bill and Helen, and she's she's passionate about it and has some really good insight about it, and I love Helen. That's good. That's good. Love Bill. Um, David Lee Roth, he did Eat Em and Smile. And I saw that tour with Steve Vai. Oh, really? Uh yes, fantastic record. Uh that was one of the first concerts I've ever been to, actually. That would have been around 86. Yeah, 86, 87. Um, I had been to very few shows. Uh that was one of the the first, well, maybe not. You know, maybe I'd uh You saw the Power Slave show, I know that. Yeah, I saw the Power Slave, I saw Priest and whatnot. But anyway, it was one of the first big arena shows I'd seen, and it was fantastic, and Steve Vai was basically unknown back then. Um just fantastic. I remember that distinctly. Um I stumbled upon this uh podcast, and there are millions of podcasts, believe me. Uh well you probably know. I stumbled upon, and it was just a a recommendation from Spotify. I recommend this, and it's called Rat Salad Review. And I I stumbled upon it, so I clicked on it, and um they did a series of um priest vs. Maiden. And it started in 2002, and they've they covered every record, um, sometimes two records versus one um record because just because the numbers and the way the guys did it is and there's three guys and they're super knowledgeable, and some are um musicians, and they're just super knowledgeable. Um, but they did it by kind of by where they were uh in their careers. Um they put like um Iron Maiden's debut against like uh Sad Wings of Destiny and Sin After Sin. Okay. So it would have been Sad Wings and Sin After Sin versus uh Iron Maiden Iron Maid. Okay type thing, because that's where they were in their careers. You know, Iron Maiden just started out, and Sad Wings was really pre-first real record because rock and roll of there still finding their way, blah blah blah. Sure. So they do that a lot. Um but it was really interesting, uh a lot of fun. But um they have they've been around since like I don't know, geez, 2020, 2019. I don't know, but these this particular series, and there's a bunch in between, so it's a prolonged series. Yeah this uh particular one started in 2022, but it was really interesting. Um there's one guy who's a huge maiden fan, there's one guy who's a moderate priest fan, and there's one guy that is a wild card. Yeah, so you never know, and uh it it's just the it's a fun dynamic. Um and it came out it in the end, it came out pretty even. Okay. Uh so that was interesting. Uh Metal Nerdery Podcast, which is a podcast that I listen to quite a bit. There's musicians, there's a comic, he's a musician. Basically, they sit around and drink beer and talk metal. Cool. Um sophomoric fart jokes, penis jokes, I mean boobs. I mean, they're just they're just dudes sitting around, drinking beer, talking metal, um, but it's a fantastic listen. Uh this week was uh episode 359, uh 1989 metal and thrash albums. Okay. Basically, the first part they just sit around and talk about the the beer they're drinking and and you know, fart and boobs, and then they go into the substance, which is real fun. I just I I like the guys. Um it comes out of Atlanta, uh, and they're just southern dudes, and yeah, they're just fun. It's just it's it's a fun listen. Cool. Um I listen to Metal Life Crisis. Oh, that's your boys' show. Doomy, Mick, Doom Butt, and Matt, all American headbanger. It's such a great podcast because they're so smart. Matt's been in the business, um, and Doomy just knows everything about everything. So put them together, and they know everything about everything, and it's fun. Um, it always starts with the Trump bashing, which is hilarious. They just sit there and get on a uh a Trump tangent and call everyone a Nazi, which is always fun. So um uh but yeah, the music knowledge is great. Um He's not gonna be very happy about the Pink Floyd section of this. No, he's not. He hates Pink Floyd. I know. I think he hates Trump more than Pink Floyd. I don't know, it's close though. Um should like Wager Waters, though. Nazis. Um but I know about five percent of the bands they're talking about. Oh, yeah, I bet, yeah. So I have I have no clue. I I like my bands and they talk about every band under the sun. Yeah. Uh this episode was called 34.788 Complete, which is a first quarter review. What they're gonna do is uh get each quarter of the year and pick their f top five album releases from that quarter, and uh then accumulate a top 20 by the end of the year, and that may change depending on what comes and what slips you know some down and blah blah blah, which is a great idea, and I I I believe Matt came up with that idea. Um, so that's gonna be fantastic. Um so I'm looking forward to to seeing what all the releases, although I've never heard of any of these fans, I've heard of very few, but it's still interesting, their knowledge and and everything, and it's fun. Uh, so I love that. Um Pecology. Ah, yeah. Surfect's a lot. Uh yes, congrats to Fergal and Elaine. Yeah, that's fantastic, it's beautiful. I love everything about it. You know, I'm the hopeless romantic. Oh, yeah. I love everything about that. Um, I listened to the weddings ones. I've been putting them out. I finally got to them this week. Yeah. Uh the wedding episodes, part one and two. Um, Ferg and the big mouse, fantastic. I mean, they're beautiful humans. Uh all the shenanigans that go about getting a wedding together. Oh man. I mean, what a pain in the ass. Jesus. And all the all the stuff they had to go through and their memories of their first weddings and best men and and everything else, and tasting this and and and catering that, and just I mean, wow. Alright. Uh I listened to Pure Rock Hidden Treasures with DJ Hollywood. Okay. Our good friend Dim, uh Vin. I just called him Dim. He's very he's not Dim. But Hollywood's a great dude, beautiful human. He's been on the show many times. Um he has a show on the legendary radio station KNAC. Nice which was the first all-metal station that came out of LA um in the mid-80s into the early 90s, and they played pure metal and pure rock, KAC, and it's a classic station. You'd see you'll see every metal band that was around in those days have K and A C T shirts on. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Uh just a legendary station, then it went away, and it's come back. Yeah. Um, and Vin has a show every Sunday night at uh 5 p.m. Pacific. It's called uh Pure Rocket and Treasures. And uh it's a must-listen. He plays deep cuts, uh stuff you'd never think of playing. He plays local bands. Um you can hear it on terrestrial radio in the high geysers of California, Victorville, Apple Apple Valley. Uh you can hear it in Baker, um a lot of these places I've lived. Uh, and you can hear it in Vegas for sure. And um and he was kind enough to uh record a a liner for uh the Judas Priest cast, so on play, he'll play us and and Doomy um on KNAC. That's cool. So you can stream KNAC on uh K N A C F M dot FM. And uh yeah, it's a great station. If you like to listen to Ozzy's Boneyard, you'd like uh KNAC dot FM stream that uh they have everything from Ozzy's Boneyard up until you know like uh modern stuff and new stuff, so it's it's it's all encompassing. Alright, um Adam Carolla. I've heard of him Dr. Drew. Yeah, he cuts through all the all the shite uh and he has common sense and I think he's hilarious, he gives no shit, um, breaks down you know everything so an idiot like me can understand it. Sure. Um you know he kind of leans one way politically, but I understand him. Um I think he's funny and I think he r presents it in a way that I can understand. Um that I can get on with. Um he calls out all the all the hypocrisy and he uses humor. Um he doesn't play into everyone's, you know, everyone's a racist and a Nazi and a misogynist and a homophobe, you know, all that crap. Yeah, yeah. He just cuts he just cuts through it with common sense. Sure, sure. Um and all that stuff is so stupid and old and tired. That it it's I just I it's it's so tired. I mean, it's basically rendered all those words meaningless when you overuse them. Oh, absolutely, yeah. And and use them as a crutch or as something, you know.

It's ridiculous. Um so I really like that show. Um there's a show called Markley Van Camp and Robbins. Okay. Uh which is a radio show. They put the show out on podcast every day. Um I don't listen every day, but their bumper music is hard rock and metal. Cool. Which is really cool. Um two dudes are former music DJs and and one's like a newsman, but he knows music. Um, but all their bumpy music is is is metal, basically. They play like old accept, old rush, old Van Halen, um ACDC, I mean Metallica, everything for the bumper music, the you know, the music that comes in and out. Oh yeah. Which which is really cool. And they're fun. Um but I particularly listen every Friday because they have the Friday 5, which is the top five songs related to a category that is relevant to whatever's going on. Um, a lot of fun. Um this particular week, um, it's tomorrow is like National Proud to Be Bald Day or something. So they have uh the greatest bald musicians of all time. Huh. Have any ideas? And it's all rock and roll. Oh well. Have any ideas, have any guesses?

When I listen to the show and I listen to the uh the uh whatever it's called, the the five. So that's really fun. Um as far as podcasts, that's it. No romance novels this week. I did listen to I know. That's the whole reason you were here. I uh I only do free novels. Uh I've uh yeah, because I I don't want to pay for any I don't want to pay for Audible, I don't want to pay for uh uh Spotify. Okay. I don't want to pay for anything because I'm cheap and I'm poor. And uh you know, I live in a trailer, so um nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with that. Yeah. So uh I just get what's free. And it you know, sometimes I get what's what's hacked or whatever it's called. So I could listen to some free romance novels before they get taken down. Um so what I could find free this week was uh some Jack Mars novels. So, and they're just unbelievable, you know, fantastic, unrealistic, over-the-top spy novels that you're just like that could never happen. Yeah, of course. Right. But it's fun to listen to. And those are the ones I listen to when I go to bed. I just you know, if I and if I fall asleep within the first five minutes of the of the four-hour book, I'm good. I don't need to listen to the end. There you go. But uh but I I listen to uh absolute damage, double asset, and absolute vengeance. Man, uh enjoy 'em Yeah, I enjoy 'em. It's mindless. That stuff can never happen. Sure. It never would happen. They're fantastical, but they're you know mindless. Okay. Whatever, listen. Uh of course I listen to a lot of gunsmoke. The old American cowboy radio show from the fifties. Okay. You know, Marshall Dylan, Chester, Doc, Miss Kitty. Um, I love that show. I've uh I've listened to every uh gun smoke episode ever made. Oh wow. There are a lot. Um was made from the late forties you know through the fifties. And there are a lot of episodes, and I've listened to every single one of them probably two or three times. How long are they? How long is each episode? Half hour, uh less than a half hour. Okay. You know, original fifties radio. You know, cool. Before television. Yeah. When you just had a radio to listen to and you gathered around the radio and listened to a half hour episode. Yeah, you have to factor in commercials and whatever.
SPEAKER_01So Do they have the old commercials included, like when you listen? Some do. That's cool.
SPEAKER_02It depends on the podcast. Okay. Uh there are a lot of different gunsmoke podcasts. Um the particular one I listen to has the best uh audio quality. So they have modern commercials. Yeah. But if there are, like I said, five or six different uh gunsmoke podcasts where you can get the original commercials.
SPEAKER_01It's cool to hear those, just to hear how different commercials were back then.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes. And how uh you know, they have cigarette commercials. Um they just assume that that uh every wife is barefoot and pregnant. Yeah. I mean, they advertise towards that. Yeah. Very misogynistic, but that's the way it was back then. It's just you know, I mean, just a different time. In the fifties it was a different time. And you know, that's that's the way it was, and that's what they advertised to, and it's just fantastic. Uh love that show so much, and all the old radio shows. I listened to all the old radio shows, and uh uh the commercials are just spectacular. I mean, it's just so nostalgic. I mean, we weren't alive in the fifties, obviously. Yeah, but it just takes you back and you remember, well, that's how society was back then. Uh you know, just coming out of out of World War II. Yeah, absolutely, yeah. Rebuilding, uh you know, the just everyone's pregnant, everyone has kids. It's all new. It was all new, you know. It was all new. You get uh, you know, a car for two thousand dollars, a brand new car, advertisements for all these car car companies that are no longer in existence. Yeah, it's crazy. You know, you take your car to the Chevrolet deer dealer to get your oil changed, uh you know Kellogg's frosted flakes. Chesterfield, cigarettes. You know, I mean, just fantastic. Absolutely. Really good stuff. I I love that old nostalgic stuff, the old uh Americana. Oh yeah, absolutely. Uh the old uh patriotic stuff. I mean, everything's patriotic, everything's love, everything's inclusive, and uh it's just a a simpler time.
SPEAKER_01A much simpler time, I agree. Yeah. Love it. Well, the last thing we have to do here, and this won't take very long because when I only put a waffle zone out in the end of a week, you know, a lot of people don't share it and uh do quiet quotes on it. So we go. But I'll read it from last week. It says this week on the waffle zone, the with a K, the cre cre uh I'm trying I was trying to do a creator, but creation of Matt, the creation, if you will, of Matt, because he's just obsessed with that band.
SPEAKER_03It's a creator, he-man.
SPEAKER_01Then it says two, the kill switch for Matt, because he listened to kill switch. And then lastly, three, the killers for Matt. He listened to those three bands that all started with the letter K, which I kind of thought, what's he trying to do here? We don't we don't want to get into that. Yeah, yeah. We like to joke around with Matt. Uh then it says uh for the love of God is Steve's music varied this week. The opposite of the opposite of this week, huh? This week it wasn't so varied. I guess there was a lot of there was a lot of variation if you look through Pink Floyd's whole entire catalog.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, a lot of variation. And a lot of growth and a lot of differences, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01That's why I was trying to go backwards and then forwards and just trying to see what I heard differently. But after a while you hear so much new stuff and you're just kind of like waiting for something that's really gonna grab you. The early stuff wasn't I I probably will go through it all again at some point, you know. But I'll definitely be playing, you know, the new the newer one for that I like.
SPEAKER_02So give animals another another spin.
SPEAKER_01I definitely will because that was an album with you know songs. When it's some of those soundtracks where it was like just a lot of weird stuff. When it's just a bunch of weird psychedelic going on, I just I'm like, okay, hearing it once is enough. Like next time I I probably just start liking starring things and going, Right, right, you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_02But okay, uh Animals is basically three songs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because one of them is like part one, two, three, four, and five or something.
SPEAKER_02Isn't that one of the part uh the first song and the last song are just uh kind of bumpers. Okay, the first and last. And then the middle three songs are animals. Yeah. Uh sheep, pigs, and dogs. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So yeah, it's just a fantastic record. I I I always bag on Iron Maiden for having bumpers at the beginning and the end, huh? Well for having long songs. Oh, okay. Yeah, th this is an album with basically three songs, but it's so fantastic.

SPEAKER_01But anyway. I remember reading that that David Gilmore only had one song on the album, but it was a really incredibly long song. So I think it was Dogs. I think Dogs was his.

SPEAKER_01So it says five, a special word for Villa, which I found some some random video he sent me with a with a weird word and finish that and I and when I watched it that day, I was gonna record that night, and I just thought, I'm gonna save it and try to say this word about Villa. And he did send me a private message about it. He's like like laughing hysterically. Um, I know he is. You've had him on. We've both had him on, actually.
SPEAKER_02So yes, we've both had him on. Yeah, he's a great guy. I love his peppers, man. I gotta it's it's pepper time. What am I doing? I gotta get with Villa.

The problem I have with many thrash bands, not all of them, is that, at least for me, the vocals are difficult to differentiate from death metal, but their music, especially the guitars, isn't as melodic as melodic death metal bands from Arch Enemy or Early in Flames.

SPEAKER_01Yeah. I can definitely appreciate guitar riffs, and some of them were really good, but it's really difficult for me to get through. I need some great melody in it. Even though I was struggling to listen to many of them, I could appreciate songs like Golden Age, Strongest of the Strong, and 666. They had some great guitar riffs and melodies. Okay, so there you go, Matt. Gen does not like Creator. I I played one, I don't know if you remember this, I played part of one song that Outback had told me to play. And it sounded incredible. I remember going, oh my gosh, I'm about to get into this band because this sounds awesome. Did you? No, then he started singing. Oh no. And when he started singing, I just I just if the vocals aren't there for me, I just can't do it. It just wasn't you know, and I was like, dude, this music is really fantastic. I'll give you that. But I couldn't, you know. Couldn't do it. No, I'm the same way as far as vocals. So the last one we got here from one of my favorite people that to talk to, uh, a a person that's a great guest for a podcast, um, Bruno McDonald, down in South Africa. Oh. Yes. Hello, mate. SPEAKER_01So are you a fan of that album? No. Because I like that song. You know that out you know that was the idea. I know you know this. That's the other idea. He brought the wall and the pros and cons of hitchhiking to be the next Pink Floyd album. Exactly. So they chose correctly. Yes, exactly. Bob Bob Ezron was there, and he was they all like the uh yeah. So but I wanted to hear it because I thought when I read that it was gonna be the wall or that, and I thought, well, and regardless of if I like anybody, you know, as especially someone like when I read about him, he was involved in politics when he was in like grade school. Like he was in clubs and stuff, and I was going like, oh my, oh my god, he was really early into this stuff, and so he and he's very, very I don't care what someone's I don't have I don't judge my friends by their political beliefs at all.

And and and so I tried that album just to see, you know, because I was I was starting my branching out, and you know, this week I like I said, I tried Sid Barrett and uh Richard uh Wright and uh you know um David Gilmore and everything, and and then that other guy, uh Hawkins or whatever that did the have a cigar.

SPEAKER_01So this is what Bruno said, because I I think when I talked about that album, I said this sounds like something Bruno would like because it's kind of avant-garde and weird. But I remember overall when I listened to that album, I just couldn't shake how creepy it felt. You know? And so this is what Bruno says. Uh, the pros and cons of hitchhiking definitely isn't on my list of 666 albums. It's interesting and has a couple of great songs, but Steve's verdict of creepy is pretty accurate. It's a creeper. So if Bruno agrees with me, then we know that I'm right. Okay. So that's a pretty I felt like that was a big compliment. Like because Bruno, like, he's a professional author. You know, he's not like he's not like some just hey, I'll hit the record button and do a podcast like we are.
