And joining me on the line, I would probably say is the other resident idiot that usually is here with me. All the way up in Kansas City, Kansas, I have Matthew on the line. How are you, Matthew? Hello. Co-idiot here. Co-idiot. How are you? I'm the I'm the I'm the I'm the idiot. Like the host.
SPEAKER_01So nice to be back with a welcome like that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, absolutely. Well, you know, I mean, what what you know.
SPEAKER_01I was I was told to stay away for a week. This is what I come back to.
SPEAKER_05Hey, I'm happy to have you back.
SPEAKER_01It warms the cockles, it does.
SPEAKER_05The Mick cockles.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05The Macers, if you will.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, yeah, the big macers.
SPEAKER_05Oh, man. Well, we've had a um interesting week, I believe, of Iron Maiden news.
SPEAKER_01Oh, is that? Well, that tell me news to me that'll be interesting then because I didn't know anything about this. Whatever you're gonna tell me.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_01I'm I'm aware of nothing new.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_01A busy week for that.
SPEAKER_05Well, outside of Nico doing a video where he ranks the Iron Maiden albums.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I did see that somewhere. I didn't see the video. I saw a headline about it.
SPEAKER_05I haven't seen the video either.
SPEAKER_01Um, I I didn't realize it was something new. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05It's he was on a back before um Senjutsu came out. Yeah, there was somebody out there named Cap and Harris. I recall that name. Yeah, and they were information was coming from there that you're like, how are you getting this information kind of information?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And there's a channel or a podcast or something of Cap and Harris, and they had Nico on. And they did a big I don't know how I don't know how long the conversation was, or I've seen a lot of random clips of it, but he apparently ranked all the Iron Maiden albums on there.
SPEAKER_01So which I haven't seen did that Cap and Harris have anything to do with things that were being dropped around sin sinju time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's the same person.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I believe I believe it is. Yeah, I believe it is. That's how I know that. But the big news well bigger than that, okay. Way bigger than that, is that apparently Iron Maiden has sold half of the interest in their product to something called Pop House.
SPEAKER_01Apparently, I did know all these things, I just didn't realize. Yeah, I did hear that. Yeah, that was in interesting that we had just spoken about that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And supposedly it's half of you know, half, not all the way. So it's something that maybe gives the way I read it, or the way I've read some of the comments about it, is that now Pop House has an interest in um putting Iron Maiden out there and and you know, um I can't think of the one word I'm trying to like they're gonna want to push. Yes, yeah, that's that's the area I'm thinking of, is to um do that for maiden and yeah, because you're not making money just sitting on your laurels. Yeah. And Iron Maiden still supposedly has uh and they bought the rights to Eddie as well.
SPEAKER_01Eddie comes with that, so or well, outright, or 50% of Eddie.
SPEAKER_05Well, 50%, I assume. And you know existing Eddie? Only existing Eddie, like I don't know any of the facts about this. I just know that I read that and I saw some comments about coffins and toilet paper. I was gonna say that's a big thing to condoms, you know, the whole kiss route. And um you don't know. I mean, once you I you would think it sounds to me the way that Maiden did it is there's a that they had been working for months on an agreement. So that would mean that, you know, you think that they would outline things and say, you know, there's things that we're comfortable with and there's things we're not gonna, you know, that aren't gonna be allowed. And in the ownership, you know, I would think that. I would think that you know, maiden wouldn't be like, yeah, you're gonna be you could put out condoms and vibrators and you know, things like that.
SPEAKER_01Well, there'd be a limit, but I would imagine if people were concerned about the magnitude of things being put out before.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Hold on. Yeah, exactly. Sit down and get ready. Yeah. Pimple cream, if you will.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, but you you wonder it it made me the thing that made me think of as soon as I saw it, was what does that mean for the longevity of Iron Maiden at this point?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if it would change it much.
SPEAKER_05Well, it just made me think things have got to be a lot closer to the finish line. You know, which I think we they're closer. I think Max, we've talked about it enough, but I think you can't imagine much more than like, you know, five years, can you?
SPEAKER_01No, but you can do a lot in that five years. True. So I I would imagine in five years you're gonna get one album and that's it. I don't think you're gonna get an album because you're probably gonna get a legacy tour after that. And I think that's it. Otherwise, it means going back to another album.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think a legacy tour would be the uh close, you know, the final tour would be what that would be.
SPEAKER_01It'd be like the And I think uh I know I touched on the fact I'd be fine ending on that as long as it's following an album tour.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you don't want another legacy. I mean, we got the Senjutsu tour, tech you know, two the two parts of it. And uh oh, I don't know if you heard this too, but they were supposed to be recording some of the a show recently. Oh yeah, and and br and somehow Bruce was sick at this show or whatever, and I was like, maybe it's the music gods because they didn't put us any senjutsu live stuff out. You know, you had two different tours that featured you know, six of the songs from Senjutsu, and and Gen said it really well. Gen said, put out the Future Pass tour and then put in Senjutsu and Stratego as bonus, you know, from the that prior tour.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And and then you've got everything that came out then, and and I I because they're talking about, you know, I the new the next album that's gonna come out, the next live album. I'm like, I have zero interest in another live album. Not for what they're promoting, not the tour they're doing right now, you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's right. I was gonna say, because yeah, we could get hell on earth and whatever, but no, it's this tour, the yeah, um the supposedly everything from one through to one through nine or through the dark, yeah, which is not true at all.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_01So that tour doesn't count unless there's some no prayer.
SPEAKER_05There you go. I'm with you. I'm with you.
SPEAKER_01No love for that, apparently.
SPEAKER_05So so you don't have any big thoughts on the sale of their uh no, because we kind of touched on that in uh what was it, questions number 143?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like a one of those in the last episode. Somewhere in there, yeah. Uh because we talked about them and KISS doing it and all that sort of thing. And I don't mind it because it it could either be perceived as a cash grab or you know, someone buys it, but they want to get something for their money, and they're gonna push that music and make sure the music stays out there. It might even get further out than what it would in its current form because they're gonna be pushing it as an investment, so they're gonna want a return on that investment. So who knows? I don't know, maybe there's gonna be music in movies or adverts, or who knows?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. You never can tell.
SPEAKER_01So you don't know where it's gonna go. But the Eddie thing is interesting because you know, there's a lot of money in merchandise.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So and all the other peripheral things that come along with it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So uh maybe it's a win-win. Well, I'm not gonna be unhappy to see more Eddie down the street or anything like that. I think it'd be pretty cool.
SPEAKER_05It'll be interesting to see. You know, it I think it's gonna it doesn't matter what we think, really. I guess it's just a matter of are we bothered or annoyed by it, and it gives us something to talk about, I guess.
SPEAKER_01But there will be people that are annoyed and saying, Oh, they're worse than KISS now and stuff like that. But I don't I don't think they I know they put out a lot of stuff, but I don't think they do it in the same way as KISS. And maybe I'm just biased like that, and I probably really am.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think you really are. Probably. So so another question people have been clamoring to know, Matt.
SPEAKER_01Oh, let me guess. This is gonna be another we're gonna do an episode question. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Well, later, but not now. Um, so what music besides creator have you been listening to recently?
SPEAKER_01You did catch me, uh, a creator of drift today.
SPEAKER_05I did, didn't I?
SPEAKER_01What did I listen to? You know what? I was checking, I think so. Okay, the last thing I listened to, Creator kind of stuck in at the 11th hour. I don't think I listened to it earlier this week. And um, so I started listening to it. I was like, because I thought that I'd heard enough now. I was like, yeah, I'm pretty good.
SPEAKER_05Wow.
SPEAKER_01They're pretty close to six months that it's had with heavy, heavy rotation. Yeah, I tell you, I was thinking it has to be um what's gonna hit my number one Spotify ranking at the end of the year. It makes no sense. You never know.
SPEAKER_05You never know, because you got well, you got half the year left, I guess. So who knows? Well, I or the Alice Cooper that I listened to last year. I remember that.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. And I reckon I've listened to Creator more than Alice Cooper this year.
SPEAKER_05You think? Uh but it's one album compared to a bunch of Alice Cooper.
SPEAKER_01No, because I because I had been listening to parts of other albums as well. I just wasn't always listening to that whole album. Like I was always listening to uh Crushes, but I wasn't always getting through complete albums of the other ones. Gotcha. Because some of I don't really like the early Creator.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like the stuff that started coming out mid to late 90s.
SPEAKER_05Did they have a different singer or anything before?
SPEAKER_01No, it's still the same.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01It was just very, very raw and I could never get into it.
SPEAKER_05I remember hearing I remember hearing it years ago, and I don't really have any recollection.
SPEAKER_01So um, so yeah, so creator, crushes of the world, but I know it's it's coming to the end of the world, I think. I don't know how many more weeks I've got left. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. I'm just I really sure yeah, yeah. It's had a lot of play. I guess. But I was in the yeah, I was in the mood for some gamma ray this week. Uh just just out of the blue. I don't even know what made me think about it.
SPEAKER_05The gamma ray is somebody from Halloween.
SPEAKER_01Ty Hansen, who performed Halloween, and then he was there for a few albums and I Want Out. And he got out. He wanted out of the band, that's what his song was about. Then he went off and started gamma ray. Oh wow, I didn't know that. Yeah, I think that was maybe 1990, I think it was. I remember it was a big thing for me at the time. I remember the little cassette came out and Kai Hansen formally of Halloween with a little sticker on there. I was like, oh, okay, that's enough for me to buy that. I like Kai. And I think he's an awesome guitar player, too.
SPEAKER_05Um He doesn't look like the Gripkeeper, though.
SPEAKER_01No, uh no, he doesn't. Uh so Alive 95, which was a live album. And I'll give you a tip. When do you think that came out? It was in the 90s.
SPEAKER_05I'm guessing midway.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So I don't have to tell you about the Master of Confusion, then that'll stay with me rather than you.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01Master of Confusion, yeah, as well. So I had a little taste of gamma ray because I haven't listened to them for a long time. Uh, but it was funny, so I didn't realize this until I was on my way back to the house not so long ago.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01Uh I've done the K-Run this week.
SPEAKER_05Uh-oh. Did you listen to some killers?
SPEAKER_01I did. I listened to Hot Fuss, the first Killers album, and I listened to Sam's Town again because that's just so good. I used to think the Hot Fuss was awesome. Yeah. I didn't like Sam's Town when it came out. And Sam's Town is one of my all-time favorite albums now. It's like a one-blank.
SPEAKER_05Let me ask you a question. Like, this is just a you're you'll you'll probably be like, What what kind of music is the are the killers? Are they because I know it's I've I know like what's their biggest hit song?
SPEAKER_01I I think I've no they had Mr. Bright side off the first album, and the very first song that I heard, oh, what is the name of it? I can't think of anything. Uh I had a boyfriend to look like a girlfriend that you had in Sis last year.
SPEAKER_05I had a boyfriend who looked like okay, yeah, okay. Okay, so at least I'm familiar with what their kind of music is. Okay, that's what I'm just gonna say.
SPEAKER_01So I thought it was a Euro band when I first heard them. I thought, oh, this is all like Euro music. Yeah and so I was surprised. I think they're from Vegas, I can't remember. Uh, but they're an American band either way. But then so when Sam's Town came out, I was like, oh, this is so different. This is nothing like the first album at all. Huh. And I just had no time for it. Yeah, it was like a year or so later. How would I describe them?
SPEAKER_05No, I mean, I I it's it's it's some kind of alternative.
SPEAKER_01No, not really. So imagine, you know, so Fex Band.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01A little, a little of that in there. Oh, now this is early stuff because I don't really care. The further they went, I I didn't really like it what they were putting out as much. What would I call that? Not it's not indie, but yeah, indie, indie is what I was thinking. Uh see, I wouldn't call it true. It's not like true. I used to think indie and alternative were the same thing.
SPEAKER_05Indy, I think indie was the start of alternative in a way.
SPEAKER_01Because like alternative to me was stuff like Jane's addiction. I used to think. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Like early REALLY REM was kind of indie, and then they kind of moved into Alternative, but they kind of influenced a lot of Alternative. I think indie influenced a lot of Alternative, kind of is what happened in a way.
SPEAKER_01Like it's not pop rock, but it's got there's a lot of hooks and a lot of melodies and what they do, but it's not heavy either. But it's still guitar rock, it's just not heavy rock.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Still rock and roll to me. If anyone likes the killers, I'll pick up on that reference, which means that no one will.
SPEAKER_05Um maybe another K will.
SPEAKER_01Special K.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Best K. Um, so yeah, and then Maiden.
SPEAKER_05Um wait, where's the where's the other K? You said yeah.
SPEAKER_01Crushers creators Crushers of the World.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_01The Killers with Hot Fuss and Sam's Town, and Maiden's Killers. Oh, Maiden's Killers. Yeah, Maiden's Killers is actually where I started. I was just in the mood for that. I think because I'd been thinking about Diano after watching the documentary and all, and I wanted to go back and hear that again. But the other thing I hadn't listened to this album for a long time, this is a maiden album. And it'd be one of your favorite albums, if not favorite. Matter of Life and Death. A Matter of Life and Death. I haven't listened to that for a long time. I was like, man, this is really this is really good. I tell you what, I love the fact that The Legacy is the last track on that album.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's so good.
SPEAKER_01I think that is so fitting. I don't know if another track would have closed it. Uh, maybe for greater good, perhaps.
SPEAKER_05I think The Legacy is the perfect closer on that album.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So I think that's because lyrically, it lyrically sums it, it's like a summation of a lot of it's like what we learned from all this stuff.
SPEAKER_01But it has that little it's it's almost creepy, that little intro to it, the way it starts off. That almost almost sounds like a children's lullaby, but if you listen to the words, it's anything but oh oh dun dun yeah.
SPEAKER_05Tell you a thing that you I don't know, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I didn't I didn't know what you were doing at first, but I just thought I'll let it run. I'll let you go with whatever you think of.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I was thinking of something else, I think.
SPEAKER_01But you come around. Come around. Yeah, yeah. Uh but that was I appreciate that by the way.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you're welcome. You just want to do let me wander aimlessly. It's not my pod. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01Uh but that was all I listened to for the week, because I listened to I didn't listen to to Creator Once, but I listened to Sam's Town multiple times throughout the week and Hot Fuss a couple of times as well.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01So that was me for the week. Some K's, a G, and oh sorry. I listened to Anvil as well.
SPEAKER_05And I know people are wondering what happened to um uh that other band. What's it called? Thor. Thor, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'll get back to Thor. It's like I think I burnt out on it, to be honest. Uh it was like when I listened to all that megadives, I got through everything.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I got to the last album, that's like I can't do it. I'm gonna have to put it off for a while.
SPEAKER_05Because I think there's uh one of the fans of our one of our biggest fans, Thory McThor, butt, is wondering when you're gonna get back to Thor back on back on the band?
SPEAKER_01I don't know, it'll come back, I'm sure. Yeah, but yeah, I I did watch so I know I told you I watched Ann Vol's documentary, I don't know, I think months ago. Uh-huh. But I didn't watch it again early this week. And that made me want to go. You shelled out the money? No, but I mean I get it for free on on Tubi, I think it was on.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay. I think I might have Tubi or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Tubi, Tubi.
SPEAKER_05That's where that one show that you made me watch that one time when I was at your house was on.
SPEAKER_01No, that was on Prime. Was it Prime? I don't remember. Netflix. Yeah. Louder Milk.
SPEAKER_05Louder Milk, yeah. Okay, so let me go into what I listen to, Matthew.
SPEAKER_01Alrighty.
SPEAKER_05I got a lot, a kind of a lot here, and I got a few albums here that I'd Order of the Black. No, I didn't listen to Order of the Black.
SPEAKER_01I listened to the oh, I should say. Yeah, I'll say that. I listened to what you listened to last week and I sighed. I sighed out loud.
SPEAKER_05You're talking about the band I talked about a lot? Oh boy. Well, get rid of then hold it in this week, okay?
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_05So uh I I did listen to Doom Crew Incorporated by Black Label Society. That's the only album I listened to by took by Black Label Society.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and I did I found my content again a few days ago from when I saw Black Label.
SPEAKER_05There you go. I'm sure it is. No, it's not.
SPEAKER_01I can't think it's gonna answer.
SPEAKER_05And I did listen to a lot of Pink Floyd again this week, and uh So I I I listened to I don't remember what I said last week, but I listened to A Momentary Lapse of Reason, which was um one of the one of their more recent it it was the tour I could have seen them on in '88.
SPEAKER_01You almost sold me on listening to them last week.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I wasn't really sure where to go, and I was like, I'll listen to something else.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's uh it's so big. It's it's big and there's a lot of variety. It's a lot of so I'll I'll tell you because I did well here. So I listened to a momentary lapse of reason and I listened to the concert tour of the of that, which was the delicate sound of thunder. Uh an album I think is really, really good. Um, but you gotta you gotta be in the mood for mellow music, you know? Because there's a lot sometimes I am. Uh I'd say the Wish You Were Here album would be a good one. It's like it's five songs and it's like 45 minutes long.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, the first song is like 15 minutes long.
SPEAKER_01Are they proggy? I didn't think they were.
SPEAKER_05Uh they're they're proggy, I think, and uh they're just I was telling Vanessa about them. They try like lots, they they there's lots of sounds that you hear on their albums and things, and I said, but all of the sounds you hear, it's you ever heard the story about Judas Priest, uh, Metal Gods, where there's a sound of like the Metal Gods marching or whatever on that song. And the way they got that sound was they were shutting a silverware drawer. They were they would like push it in and pull it, push, and pull like to get that sound. And I was like, so back, you know, in the early 70s, you had to be very creative to come up with sounds, you know, and so there's lots of little little sounds that some of their albums can have long pieces that just go on too long, you know, and and I'll just have it on listed and I'm okay, I'm just listening, you know, I'll get past this. And which is gonna leave me a couple things. So Wish You Were Here is a is a cool album. I think it's it Wish You Were Here is one of the top uh they have three albums, uh Wish You Were Here, The Wall, and Dark Side of the Moon, and those are all in the top 60, I think, best-selling albums of all time ever. Like, and so Wish You Were Here, I think, is amazing. It's really good. Um you you might would have heard the song Wish You Were Here on c on like radio, like old 70s radio, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've I've heard something, Floyd, and I haven't disliked anything, I just haven't really gone. I've only listened to one live album that someone like me. Yeah. I never I never I liked that. I just probably didn't chase it.
SPEAKER_05Uh so the next album I listened to was one called Medal, uh M-E-D-D-L-E. And I decided that I needed to, because you know, you if you listen to an album like well, listen like you're listening to that creator album over and over and over and over. And so I've been going through their category. catalog but it's like there's so much stuff and there's some that I really do like and some that uh I struggle with so Metal I listened to it once I thought man this is I kind of liked it it was interesting so I thought let me just and me and uh me and Vanessa traveled some this week so in a car and so we you know there's a lot of driving and so I just turned it on I'd let it just kind of play repeatedly and listen to it over and over just kind of get a feel for it and and I really enjoyed it it was interesting it had stuff on it that reminded me of the Beatles which I found was really odd for Pink Floyd to me. But I but I that was the album I really dug into a good bit this week it was called Medal.
SPEAKER_01So if you were going to tell me to try something that might yeah not something that you think is good but something you might think that I would like.
SPEAKER_05That's tough Matt you know again I'm going with Wish You Were Here if you if you can handle the mellow stuff there's probably two songs out of the five that you might recognize and they're good songs. So Wish You Were Here I mean the song Wish You Were Here's fantastic I like that song. Okay well there you go it's it's a good one uh I I like that album it's it's in the middle of it's they were past some of the real real real proggy stuff but there's one song like I said the opening track is 15 minutes long and it takes it takes like three minutes just to kind of it it there's a real vibe built of like a real build and the build is just very soft and slow and it's it's really it's if you listen to it's very relaxing you know I was just thinking some of these tracks shine on you crazy Diano and then there's another one that says have a cigar and then wish you were here that kind of sums it up wrong audience.
SPEAKER_01I just realized what I was saying in front of who I was saying it to and I'm not gonna get any niceties out of you regarding Mr.
SPEAKER_05Diano saying that shine on you crazy diamond is is the 15 minute track. Okay yep and then if you look at the last track Shine on You Crazy Diamond is it a reprise? It's kind of a reply yeah it kind of reprises and then there's more lyrics it's it's you know it's an interesting so which I'm gonna get into here in a second too yeah I'm I am normally never a greatest hits person. Like let me play a greatest hits album but I was listening to this album called Medal and the there's a song in there called Echoes and Echoes is basically one of those songs where it's like if it was on vinyl it's side two it's a 23 minute song that's impressive. It's a good dye it's really good in places but there's some of it that there's some of it that gets just too weird go just noisy and noises and not you know so I was reading something you know because when I get into the band I start reading history and getting and getting on Wikipedia just reading about the albums and it said there's a version of Echoes on this greatest hits album where they they cut seven minutes out of the song so they cut out a lot of the middle stuff that I really didn't like I was what I assumed they would have done. So I was like you know what I'm not normally a greatest hits album guy so I played this album it's called Echoes the best of Pink Floyd and I'll be honest man it's the best um greatest hits album I've ever heard because they make the songs you know how you listen to something and then one song has a different sound and it's it's like they made everything sound like it fit together.
SPEAKER_01Like a song when you already know the song?
SPEAKER_05Yeah like you would hear a song and the next song would almost have a musical little a little fadey part into the next one. It just made it all fit it sounded it fit really well together and there were some songs on there I'm like I don't know how when they call it the greatest of Pink Floyd or the best like some of those songs are just like I'm not a fan like their first album had a different lead singer named Sid Barrett which most of us have at least heard that name. Yeah I guess I heard the name I didn't know and it was just I couldn't stand it man I didn't like him at all really uh but there's like three or four of his songs are on there and and um but I Shine on You Crazy Diamond is on there as well but they have the the first part that's on Wish You Were Here and the second part all as one song. So if I and I'm I've only and I haven't listened to it enough to know if they it's I don't think there's anything cut out of it. But it's just like it's all together instead of you hear it at the beginning and then it comes back in at the end of the album, you know? Which I so I've but I found that to be a really you know just interesting best of album because it wasn't just like all the hits.
SPEAKER_01No but then best of it they serve a purpose. Yeah. It's to try and bring new people in.
SPEAKER_05Yeah yeah yeah yeah some of the some like I said some of the stuff on there like I listened to it the other day when I was working in the yard and uh there's just a lot of stuff that's you know there's a couple of goofy songs by Sid Barrett you know his version but uh then I listened to I listened to the wall multiple times during the week because I found the wall and I think I told you this uh a few weeks back when I before I really dove in on Pink Floyd again here was this I was having similar reaction to it that you talked about having when you listened to Lulu. Like there were just parts that were very moving. And it made and if you really read about Roger Waters you know it's like he sings his whole life about how his dad you know went to World War II and died and um and it I feel like that's what really shaped who he was as a person too because he got really political as a he's a very political person you know um but you hear that and I and I hear all these different songs and it'll talk about there's one on an album called um The Final Cut which came out after the wall and there's a song where he sings a line he says and that's how they took my daddy away and like you hear that you hear him sing that on the album it's it's a little gut wrenching when you hear it because you just here in a minute um on the wall you know it's just it's it's a it's a kid growing up you know his dad goes to war his dad dies his dad's gone so he's talking to his dad during the album and talks about him growing up as a kid and uh well I've got more I'll talk about there in more in a minute. And lastly I listened to Dark Side of the Moon which is in the top 10 selling albums of all time. So do you think deservedly so I think it's an interesting album I would say between Wish You Were Here and The Wall and Dark Side I'd say I like Dark Side the least but there's some there's some um there's some amazing songs on Dark Side. But there is a couple of parts that are just you know long noised and weird stuff too so but I mean it's it's obviously a you know it's a really cool album I think so it's hard to say deser I'll tell you one funny story I read um so there's a song where they didn't have any vocals for it or any lyrics or any they didn't know who what who was going to sing on it. It was just an instrumental piece but they wanted a woman to come in long story short they get a woman to come in and sing on it and she basically just improvises and um it's um and it's fantastic. It's amazing but she didn't get a writing credit on the song because she came in the studio they paid her a fee to come in the studio and they said here's what we want you to do. Yeah yeah yeah well you know Dark Side of the Moon is like you know sold you know between 50 and 100 million albums or whatever it has yeah somewhere well maybe less I'm not sure but it's you know in the top ten album cells of all time and so in 2008 I read this that she sued Pink Floyd and she's like that whole melody the vocal melody is a huge part of that song and she sued to get a writing credit for it. And she won.
SPEAKER_01Oh okay she won so every album that's been put out after that has so not not on everything up until only on post.
SPEAKER_05Well no no but her no so every album that they make after that has her name in the writing credits. But she did get you know a a a settlement check for for her credit for you know for that ride I guess because I don't know what what you would get for one song on one album you know one writing credit on one album that even though it sold 50 million I mean I don't know how that all works but they said she got a check for eight million pounds. Well you think about the am I evil uh look at doing that that made someone a millionaire or else bought them a house yeah yeah and yeah and that didn't sell as much as dark side would have sold that's right but it was it's you know I I don't know that they were neglecting her on purpose I think they just were like we hired her she came in we paid her 30 pounds how big were they at the time that they were recording that album um well they were they were moving up I mean they were obviously that album came out let me see here I believe that album came out in 74.
SPEAKER_01But where does that get placed into the discography like at what point?
SPEAKER_05That's what I'm that's what I'm looking at here.
SPEAKER_01If it's early on then I understand you don't even got big budgets on this that and the other it wasn't super early because she said she wasn't overly familiar with them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So yeah they had um yeah I don't they had they had they were making waves but Dark Side was the first huge album they had.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because she said I watched a little like a 10 minute interview with her and she said like she went into a shop and they were and she goes when she saw a sign for the Pink Floyd she goes oh I wonder if that's the album I'm on or that if that's that that's got to be the album I was on and so she bought it and went home and listened to it and but she said later someone came up to her and she was like man you know that album you sang on is doing really well and you know so but you know it was I mean that album came out I think it was seventy three so you know it was 30 what eighty three ninety three oh three thirty five years later when she took him to court and for her to get the actual settlement on it you know it's I remember I remember as a kid like I used to read the paper and I would see like the albums and you know what songs at this in the chart what albums this in the chart how long's it been in there I remember seeing that it'd be out there for some unfathomable amount of time it's incredible.
SPEAKER_05Yeah dark side was in the charts for seems like it was 20 or 30 years.
SPEAKER_01Yeah I don't remember I just thought it was ridiculous how long it did.
SPEAKER_05Yeah absolutely yeah but either way it's it's a cool album for sure. So um the next one I'll listen to Matthew is one that I'm glad you're here for me to say the title of this week.
SPEAKER_01Ah is this one of the tit I don't know why you keep dropping my name in these oddball titles that you keep coming up with.
SPEAKER_05Well I listened to an album by the keyboard player of uh Pink Floyd okay uh his name is Richard Wright uh he's really got a cool voice Dickie Wright yeah okay and uh but uh last week when I had I talked to last week I had Jay on I don't know if you heard that or not yeah I did hear that you're probably gonna you're probably I have some comments on that okay I figured you have some comments here in a bit but it was an album his his only solo album that I believe he put out is called Wet Dream and I just thought Matt it's gonna be like a title Matt would like I'm not I I don't know what the correlation is there between the two between myself and that album well you where's where's the leap? You sweat a s you sweat a lot I think you told me so sometimes not over that though yeah yeah so now this is this next one is a band that I've never heard of listen to this Matt it's a band I never heard of until two days ago is it uh been around for a while or new band it's I I'm not really sure anything about them. I was I was kind of scrolling around on Facebook or sorry not Facebook Twitter and somewhere I had made a comment on something and someone else made the comment and and I saw a comment and so I you know every now and then I'll click on a person because they got an interesting name or something. And you know and that you scroll through and see what kind of person they are. And you know you do that do you okay occasionally I'm I'm not as I'm not as um um I'm not as big into that scene as as say a special K would be you know okay but um but I was just you know and and so there was an album he had he was talking about he said I've been listening to this album all day long or some whatever he said and he's and it and so I was like I went to uh YouTube just to play a clip just like a small clip just I wonder you know because I'll see these names of bands and be like oh god let me see what interest it's so interesting this is yeah no let me see I just think no it took one day for someone to mention something you've got to listen to it interesting what and you know no here's listen I had that point I had that point to bring up later but you go on keep going but I just thought all I thought was I wonder what this music sounds like after one day you thought this is something I've no it was literally within five minutes I just went on YouTube typed it in I played stuff that you've told me but when we're recording an episode I don't think about it later I was just in the moment and so I typed in and and I I swear to God when I say the name of this band next week and when Melissa hears this she's gonna go oh I love them I've seen them in concert I know it because as I was how many bands hasn't she seen because when I yeah because when I saw when I saw when I heard it I heard a clip and I thought that sounds interesting why not give it a listen why not I'm just gonna because I thought I've been listening to Pink Floyd like nonstop. Let me tr let me change it up. Is it metal or is it it's kinda oh yeah yeah I mean it wouldn't fall into the uh something else it it'd have to fall under some yeah I don't know what what the actual title of the category Stevie Dan adjacent or something like that. No no no no uh it's a band because when you hear the name of the band you're gonna be like oh they would be really heavy and the name of the band was Coffin Builders like and I thought haven't heard of that one. Exactly and I thought well that's an interesting name for a band right you you feel like hearing that name that it would sound like what? Really heavy right perhaps or it could be the exact opposite okay so I'm gonna play a clip just a quick clip here and funny enough this album literally came out the day I listened to it. So I listened to it on release day. Coffin Builders Yeah and so this is the song that was um that someone had put up or or the one he had he had had on his page or whatever so this is the one I ended up listening to so I'll play just a little bit of it to see and and and and as soon as you hear it you're like oh this sounds like something Melissa would listen to so this is a song called Skeleton Key.
SPEAKER_04I don't remember what I think I heard a little bit of it's kind of a cool vibe right is it is it like slide guitar?
SPEAKER_05Like slight just a little? I'm not sure I'm not sure I I have one earbud on and one earbud off trying to hear it so and when did this come out it's a couple of days ago came out j uh july 17th yeah like he sounds like a an early era singer or early early Jate really that when you said that but to me I feel like the vocals are kind of back in the mix when I listen. They do and so it makes it a little harder to tell but man as soon as I started listening I was like gosh I guarantee you Melissa will know this band.
SPEAKER_01But I think I'd rather that style of vocal be more in the background because I'm kind of past that now but I do like that music a lot.
SPEAKER_05Yeah the music is very because the guy made his comment said something about it being very melodic and I thought coffin okay that that that intrigued me.
SPEAKER_01The melodic I'm not looking at the wrong band coffin builder hunt so I said builders didn't I I wrote I wrote down it's sorry it's coffin hunters I looked up coffin shakers and it's got boodoo last night down by the you got you got coffin shakers I'm saying coffin builders and it's really coffin hunters.
SPEAKER_05Coffin hunters I was trying to find it so I could say that coffin hunters yeah and their their newest album just came out it's called Cosmic Dream and I think I saw that they had a couple of other albums out but I don't know how long they've been around Cosmic Dawn? Cosmic Dawn yes that's the name of the album sorry I never said that it's it's been hard to follow you on this one I know I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01Okay Coffin Hunters I was curious as to how old they are they the picture I saw a picture of them and they look they look like they would be in their 30s or 40s uh okay doesn't tell me yeah so I was looking on the on the file it doesn't tell me I formed formed in 2016 they're relatively new okay okay I I went the link that he had he had a link posted to Bandcamp so I went to Bandcamp and I was and like there's an album you you can order the vinyl of this album and there's only 250 copies of it made or something like the uh picture disc or something I don't know. So don't without looking I don't know if you if you know anything at all about where would you imagine a sound like that comes from where do you think that's I wouldn't have a clue. I mean I'd say California okay well there you I wouldn't have guessed that at all so I wonder maybe you should be able to see if they're touring well I'll close by I might look later.
SPEAKER_05Because it might be a bit of fun if that was see them in a small place kind of thing yeah uh I listened to another album today that I've never heard in my life in the world no and this is something that I feel like again Bruno Bruno McDonald who's whose book about Pink Floyd I found on uh eBay and perched purchased it of course as soon as I saw the Bruno McDonald name on eBay had to buy it so I I'm gonna get a copy of Bruno's book you know yeah I was wondering if uh Jim in uh in Alabama because he's a big reader of uh of uh Bruno he said his Bruno book collection is the first thing he would grab if his house was on fire that's good I know I was like well he said he said his wife is really happy about that but but yeah so I wondered if he had that book uh but okay so I listen to it this is one that I would expect Bruno to know about uh I was I was reading I watched something about Roger Waters today on a little interview a clip of a bunch of interviews with him and in the comments people were talking about his solo albums and one that was mentioned and called just just really great was called Amused to Death. And so it the comment you know when you sometimes you read a comment or hear something and you go man if they're that passionate about it like kind of like I almost got you to listen to Pink Floyd last week.
SPEAKER_01You're very close. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So I thought this guy's comments were good enough it wasn't just like oh it's awesome it was they were really good comment and I thought man I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna listen to that. I'm gonna try it amused to death I didn't really get a great listen on it I had it on and you know I was kind of listening to it on my phone walking around the house and then my wife kept trying to talk to me and stuff and so I feel like it needs another listen but it there was some very I heard some really cool stuff on it though that I liked so uh and then uh to close out my listening week Matt something completely the opposite of every other thing I've mentioned yeah and I mentioned this band a couple weeks ago and I was just looking on my phone for something that was just like almost I wouldn't call it a palate cleanser because is it PG Reagan or something what was it called? No uh uh Iron Reagan no um but it was just something that it's old and something I was into it was on one of the very first cassettes I ever got that my cousin made for me. Uh I I'd listened to some rat. Ah that's like a couple weeks in a row now isn't it I listened to it two weeks ago with you I think so but I listened to uh Out of the Cellar which is their debut and there's some killer songs on that album. Like I was going for that to be your first album I mean it sounds like I think I said it before too it sounds fully formed. Like they sound like they've got everything you know like you listen to the first Kiss album or the first Iron Maiden album and you know there's pieces like Phantom of the Opera or whatever or Black Diamond or uh uh what's the other one on um the first kiss album I'm sorry to have taken so long 100,000 years.
SPEAKER_01Oh I love that song.
SPEAKER_05Yeah those sound like you know but this album I mean like they were still finding their way a little bit too like this album sounds like everything they were gonna be all at once so and then I listened to the follow up to it Invasion of your privacy I was just I wanted something that was just you know like you know you listen into Roger Waters or Pink Floyd you you know that's it's it's the lyrics can get heavy at times, you know do you rate him as a vocalist?
SPEAKER_01It's Stephen Pearce isn't it yeah I mean I think
SPEAKER_05He's got a unique voice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I couldn't do his voice.
SPEAKER_05They I think the one thing I realized about them, and I read this somewhere maybe at some point too, was they're kind of in that in the glam-ish scene that was happening back then, but they're on the heavier side. They're more like Wasp was compared to like Motley Crue and Bon Jovi's and stuff like that. So I can appreciate, you know, there's a great guitar riffs on their albums, and and I don't like all of I don't like every song, but man, I'll listen to Invasion of Your Privacy today, and I was like, God, this is this is a killer album, man. This is good stuff. But it but after that, I never could get into much of what they did after that. It's like they they I don't know if they lightened up or they just went different direction or what, but were they lyrically like the rest of the glam bands?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's that's probably why I had no interest in. I didn't like his voice.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there was one song on the first album. I think it was Let me see what it was. Yeah, I can't imagine. Let me just uh let me look at these song titles here.
SPEAKER_01Unchain your back door.
SPEAKER_05If I'll be yeah, uh there's one called She Wants Money and I was like, it's one of the worst songs on the album. It's just so it sucked. But there's a song called Back for More. That's just here. I'll play listen to the intro of this song. It's just so cool.
SPEAKER_01It reminds me of uh white lion or something, maybe.
SPEAKER_05It could be, but that just sounds cool to me, man.
SPEAKER_01It just sounds of its time. Like I I can appreciate it, would have been rational, but it just sounds like a weapon of the band. I mean I've had I've got the luxury of history to judge that now, though.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. I mean, I remember liking that song way back in the day, too. And we funny enough, we went and saw LA Guns, you know. Well, I didn't see Tom Kiefer, but there was a part of the show where the guitar player started playing that riff. And I was like, what the hell is he playing? That I I know that, I know that. And then the band came in, b-ba-ba! And I was like, oh, this sounds awesome. Yeah, it's cool. It's really cool. So uh now we're gonna get into another part of the show, Matt. Um, with the two little parts I got here. You know, when I was off work, uh just two little parts, I like. Yeah, yeah. Well, one of them is what band did Steve go see in concert last night?
SPEAKER_01Oh, that'll be nice to hear. I did try to flush that out a little bit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, I don't think you're gonna be happy, but uh I won't. I went and saw a tribute band last night.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. With Mrs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Mrs. was with me. Uh she she rode with me all week in the car, so she was a little primed for it. It was a it's a band called Brit Floyd.
SPEAKER_01And Did you hang on? Did you say I'd be disappointed?
SPEAKER_05I I just didn't know if I'd get a sigh out of you or what. Who did you sigh about when I was talking last week?
SPEAKER_01Oh, you uh all the black label stuff.
SPEAKER_05Oh jeez.
SPEAKER_01I said it out loud. I was just listening, then I caught what I'd actually said. I got a bit of a chuckle.
SPEAKER_05I was like, you don't even have to be talking live for me to be dismayed by you just it you just open up your mouth, yeah. It just falls out. But this band is like they've been going uh since um uh 2008 or so, and he used to be in a different uh Pink the guy who started this band used to be in a different band called Australian Pink Floyd or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, to say they've been through here through PC before.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, I'd been listening to Pink Floyd like three weeks straight, like a lot. And we we came home a day early from our trip, and uh we were home, and I was trying to look up something on on the internet about Pink Floyd, and then it said Britt Floyd, and I went, Oh, what's this? And it said July 18th in Grand Prairie, which is basically next to Arlington, and I went, say what? You know, and I've so I went and I watched a clip of them on YouTube real quick just to see if they were good. Yeah, and it was incredible. I was like, oh my god, like this is this couldn't have come in a more perfect time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's cool when things work out like that.
SPEAKER_05Like I was like, I've been just going crazy listening to all this stuff, and you know, and so we went last. I mean, it was it was pricey. They aren't they're not a cheap, they're not like you're going to see uh my friend Chris's Iron Maiden band for 20 bucks. You know, it's a little pricier than that, but I mean they have a light show that would I would imagine would it's incredible.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna ask, do they include that as well? Like the big ones doing it.
SPEAKER_05It was fantastic. I mean, the band they had they had three female backup singers, they had a keyboard player girl that also played saxophone and something else. They had two lead guitar player guys, they had another, they had a bass player, they had a drummer, a percussionist. I mean, this is a huge, huge thing.
SPEAKER_01It's a production.
SPEAKER_05It is a huge production. And I mean, like, they started uh their tour, I think it was called The Wall, Dark Side, and Beyond. And so they came out and they played about a little more than half of the wall in its entirety. And the way they started out is what's one of those instruments? I hate to say it this way, where somebody holds it and they push little knobs on it, but they squeeze it in and out. What do they call that?
SPEAKER_01Like it goes from like a piano accordion.
SPEAKER_05Accordion, yeah. Like the the the wall album starts with an accordion. And when they started their show, I thought they would just have a sound effect if they were gonna do that part. Someone's up there playing a damn accordion. And I mean, I was like, I'm talking, you want to talk about getting goosebumps, Matt, through that show. God, just you hear it was just things were done so well.
SPEAKER_01Is this what it's like to be mad? Did you think that?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I did there was one point where I thought, I thought, am I having all these goosebumps because I'm partially sick and I'm getting chills? But there was one part um on one song, uh which song was it, where I literally had tears streaming down my face just because there's it's to get pressed. Yeah, yeah, uh, yeah. It was um, but it's a part where it talks about uh little girl and little boy or something. I can't remember the line in my in my head now, but it it makes me think of Sarah every time I hear it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And it and it just, you know, and and with her growing up and uh, you know, she started her first full-time job ever a couple days ago. And when she left, I just stood outside and waved at her. Like I I watched her drive away the whole way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's what's that song I'm trying to uh dad? Oh, never mind. You wouldn't know that song anyway. That was a Nirvana song.
SPEAKER_01That used to be I'm only 17.
SPEAKER_05No, there's a Nirvana has a song, Daddy's Little Girl Ain't a Girl No More. Okay, I wouldn't have gone there. No, no, no, but it's just, you know, but that is, you know, my little girl ain't a girl no more. She's you know and um I I can't think I can't think of what the line uh I'm trying to think if I can see it in here. Um I can't.
SPEAKER_01What was the ticket for that worth?
SPEAKER_05It depends. I I could have got ticket for 30 bucks. I paid a little more than that to sit a little lower because it was in a real it was in a really nice theater.
SPEAKER_01What was the like the ticket range or like top top price? I always wondered that because the production is so big.
SPEAKER_05Well, I don't know because I don't I don't know if I was looking at them secondhand or not, but I mean I saw tickets for you know probably uh uh 200 bucks. Like you're talking sitting front row, second row, things like that, maybe more. I can't remember.
SPEAKER_01That's a big pull. You know, you're not even the original, it's original bands that don't charge that.
SPEAKER_05But then that's the well, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I mean they're you know they're they're well known. They and and really like I what I thought when I saw that, because I've heard of those guys before, and what I thought was because after this past week, I was like, I had the chance to see him in 88. I probably could have seen him in 94. Yeah, and I was like, I'm never going to see Pink Floyd live, ever. It's you know, there's just zero chance. So this is probably the closest I'm ever gonna get. You know, and one of their guitar players uh used to play with I mean he's played with a lot of people. He's played with uh with with Bron with Queen. He's played with uh I guess you know, like a band like Queen maybe now probably has extra pl people on stage with him, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So uh, you know, but it was just it was a fantastic production. It was it was worth it, you know. It was I just wasn't in the greatest of shape last night when I was at the show. Yeah. I just I I I wanted to be there, and know it, if I would have known what was gonna happen to me about two and a half hours after that show ended, I'm I would be shocked I it would shock me to know that I was at that show, you know. But um the volcanic eruption that happened. Um But um yeah, but we went and saw a Brit Floyd. They played the entire Dark Side of the Moon album, which was, you know, I was happy to hear that, but I was much happier to hit the wall. They did a couple of songs off Momentary Lapse of Reason, which I was really excited about. They played um, they played a Shine on You Crazy Diamond, uh, which we discussed a little earlier. Um it was just but it was really cool. And and dude, they they had a 25-minute intermission because they started at 8 p.m. and they got done at 11. So they were all they they played over two and they played about two and a half hours.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And it's just a it's a you know, a long set of just, and it was just fantastic. Everybody just did a great job. And uh I mean all you could ask for is more songs, you know. That's like you know, you could any band you go see, you're gonna say, Well, I wish they would have played this or that. And there's always this one song here or there you would like to have heard, but you still I had no expectations for I didn't know what the tour was called, anything. I just bought the tickets, and when we got there and I saw a wall, dark side, and I thought, okay, so they'll probably play all of Dark Side because it's about a 40-minute album. And then the wall is like an hour and 20 minutes, and they played a good chunk of that. So but yeah, it was a good time. But we left and Vanessa said, Man, those guys were awesome. Vanessa got a t-shirt.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05Well, she got a shirt before the show, but after I mean, she she was posting videos on Facebook of them. She goes, That because you know that the the stuff that's really nice and mellow and stuff, like she that's more her alley, you know. It's more like she can like she's not like, oh my god, I'm trying to I'm sitting here trying to listen to Iron Maiden, you know. Yeah. It was just there's mellow and there's real pretty, pretty musical parts and stuff. So the second part of my thing that I used to discuss a lot, uh you remember when I had uh I was out of work for a while, and I uh uh we used to say, What did Steve listen to this week? Or watch, what did Steve watch this week? So me and Vanessa went out of town uh for a few days. I was on vacation this past week, and one night we were in our uh room and we were trying to find something to watch, and we found something called Untold, and it was called Chessmates, because it was just something random, and I read it to her, and she goes, Yeah, that sounds interesting enough. And it was about the world of chess, like the uh I guess you would call it the um board game. The board game, but the uh like people playing chess against one another and like chess championship level games and all these kind of things, which I don't even know that world exists, you know, until now. But it was just there was a chess.com or some kind of website, and all these people that play, and it it basically was about a couple of people. One guy who's the best chess player in the world, supposedly, for the last eight, nine years.
SPEAKER_03Like a Russian guy?
SPEAKER_05Uh something like that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And then there was an American guy who got really good and beat him, but then they kind of discovered at times he was cheating and Bobby Fisher or someone? No, no, Bobby Fisher was like a long, long time ago.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I was because I know that name.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I'd never heard of it. I can't even remember either of these guys' names. But I found it to be a pretty interesting documentary. And it was just, you know, it was a chess. Imagine a modern day kid being a chess player, you know, with all their, you know, screaming and yelling and acting crazy as opposed to winning winning with dignity, you know? Yeah. Yeah. So it's kind of one guy's winning winning with dignity, the other guy's screaming and yelling like, if yeah, I'll kick you, you know, just going crazy and all that. And and in the chess world, there's always going to be people drawn to the outlandish people, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And so like it's like it's a new style in chess or whatever. But Vanessa absolutely hated it. Uh, but I enjoyed it. I thought I was like, that's interesting enough. She goes, that could have been a 15-minute mus uh thing, which I'm thinking, yeah, that's what people say about Iron Maiden songs nowadays. That could have been a five-minute song. And then uh I watched another uh documentary while we were out of town, because it came up on my uh Netflix, and I I watched it would it would automatically play the intros for something. And so you start watching the intro and you go, oh, that sounds interesting. And this one was called Michael Jackson The Verdict, and it's all about a trial that he went under uh went on in um 2008.
SPEAKER_01This is when he came out and jumped up on the limo or something like that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was in there too. And I mean, I'll be honest, I found it very, very interesting. You know, it was because you're seeing the real Michael like Sarah is is my daughter is she loves Michael Jackson's music. And and of the top 60 best-selling albums of all time, Michael Jackson has about five of them, you know, so he he has the number one of all time, you know. So, I mean, that's pretty damn impressive. But, you know, you she goes and sees the movie that's in the theaters, and I'm like, there there's no Michael Jackson in that movie. It's just someone, you know, dressed like Michael Jackson. You watch this documentary, and there's lots of interviews with him, and a lot of him talking and a lot of things that you know going on, and it's it's an interesting show, you know, and you're seeing because he was a you know, you don't I don't ever I don't I live through it. I don't I don't I never realized what an pop culture icon he r he truly was, you know.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, he was huge.
SPEAKER_05Well, because that's everyone he would would know.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Many people on the planet don't know who Michael Jackson is.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, exactly. And so the trial happens, you know, and it is like mass pandemonium every day at the trial.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, every day on the I used to see that on the news at home.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, see, I never I guess I just wasn't paying any attention. Um, but you know, there was 60 different countries had news people there for the entire trial. There was fans lining the fences and they're screaming and yelling, and you know, just it was it was just it was insane. And um, I mean, it was interesting because in the end of the trial, you know, he got you know declared innocent, and one of these guys that was a friend of Michael Jackson's, he just goes, Well, good, now Michael Jackson can go back to living his regular life or whatever. And one of the people that was also, you know, kind of a Michael Jackson um person said to him, His he'll never, he said, Michael Jackson will never recover from this trial. Because of it because even though he got declared innocent, there was so much evidence in there. I I walked away thinking he's guilty he was guilty.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've seen a documentary.
SPEAKER_05So how old was this one that you watched? Is it recent? It came out very recently. Yeah, it came out it came out in the last few months, I believe.
SPEAKER_01Uh, okay. Now I'd watched one before where it they talked to a couple of the kids. Well, they were kids and now they're adult.
SPEAKER_05They might those same kids might have been in this one because they were maybe. You know, they were kids, they were talking to different people. You know, it's it's funny because you watched like not funny, but on the trial, like Macaulay Colkin got called to stand in the trial. And um it it was three, it was basically three 50-minute shows, and it was interesting, you know. I mean, and there's honestly, I told Sarah, I go, because Sarah was like, I will never watch that, you know, because she just doesn't want to believe anything. And um I said she's got no skin in that game.
SPEAKER_01He was over and done with people.
SPEAKER_05Well, I know, but she loves his music now, and you know, she finds out he's a pedophile, which you know, he wasn't legally declared one, so he's you know, but if she if she sees enough evidence to that you'll name drop anyway, yeah, gone. I'm not saying he was, or or I mean just did. I said if she finds out he's a pedophile.
SPEAKER_01Implying that he is or was.
SPEAKER_05He he wasn't, and I uh but then I followed that with he was not he was declared innocent.
SPEAKER_01He wasn't so I mean Well he's not walking through an airport walking past someone who's standing at the telephone booth. That's not gonna happen.
SPEAKER_05That's I'm glad to see Matt's joined team team uh I don't think Matt's joined anything on the team. Team shooter here. Um but yeah, I mean it was it was an interesting documentary. There's a lot of things on both sides of the fence, you know, where you kind of could see where you thought, okay, that does seem a little bit hokey what those people are trying to present against him. And you know, but it it I found it interesting, but I walked there was you you walked away because they did a they did a poll at some point, you know, and more than half the people in the United States were like, Yeah, he's guilty. And they were like, it doesn't matter what we prove in court, yeah, public perception is public perception.
SPEAKER_01So then people forget while they move on.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and then they said I think there was a point where one of his helpers said that he that's probably when he got on drugs, like really like the prescription stuff that he ended up dying on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And um of course Sarah said he was murdered, that they killed him on purpose because of the drugs or something, but um oh, what was it? Uh there was a thing where he had to go to the hospital for some reason, and they said they were giving him drugs to put him to sleep, but it wouldn't put him to sleep. So they were calling the doctor, like, hey, we need more. And they gave him more. Call the doctor, it wouldn't put him to sleep, gave him more. Michael Jackson tells his guy, you gotta get me more. I can't I'm I'm not I'm not sleeping. He goes to the doctor, the doctor says, I can't give him any more. I've given him enough to tranquilize an elephant. So and his his guy said that he could see a shift in Michael Jackson through that period of going through that trial, you know. So So it's probably it probably has a lot to do with his demise that was only a couple years later.
SPEAKER_01So I wonder, like the movie's out at the moment still. That's been running for a while, at least at the Cineman MA, whatever it is. And you've got that documentary that you're talking about, then I'm sure does it paint him favorably? I'm guessing it does.
SPEAKER_05The movie, yeah, the movie is very favorable.
SPEAKER_01And I wonder if that's like revisionist history.
SPEAKER_05The documentary doesn't paint him in a uh in a in a in a positive light for the most part. Oh, it doesn't. No, it's you definitely walk away from that with more of a sense of you know, that justice wasn't really served. But, you know, ultimately, I mean it it did ruin his career, you know. I mean, which I'm not saying is was was served or not, but you know, it's it's just there's too I heard too many things in there where I was just like, and and Vanessa was just like she didn't watch it with me. She was just like, I don't I don't want you to tell me about it. I don't I don't you know if he is that I don't want to know and I was just yeah okay so a couple nights ago I watched a movie that I've seen once before and I didn't understand it the first time I saw it mostly, but having been listening to Pink Floyd straight for about three weeks straight, I I decided I wanted to watch The Wall. And I'm really glad I did. But that I watched it the night before I went and saw that uh tribute act, and you know, there were things in the in their uh show that that directly referenced the movie, and so it made it it made it make more sense, but having read so much about Roger Waters and and everything, I felt like the movie made a lot of sense. Like I didn't feel like you'd have to be used to they said you had to be high, you know, to watch it to get it. But I felt like it it made a lot of sense and it was you know it's it's I thought it was really well done for the most part. Like even the uh graph uh not the graphics, but the um the cartoony um well yeah, I guess it would be the graphics, the cartoon drawing graphic things that were done in the movie. So well done, you know. And it's an early 80s movie.
SPEAKER_01I remember seeing I've I don't know if I watched the whole thing. I do remember it being on TV and seeing little bits of it. Um I couldn't even tell what it's about.
SPEAKER_05It's it's just about the album. It's just it's just the album. Now they wouldn't have shown it all on TV unless they were unless you were watching it on HBO or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but what we see at home is very different to what's shown on like public TV.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then uh so and I watched it, I literally found it on YouTube. I I was gonna I was gonna rent it, you know. I mean, I was willing to pay the 99 cents to rent.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_05But I but I see but I went, I couldn't find it. I couldn't find it. So I just went on YouTube and I typed in Pink Floyd the Wall, and bam, it just came up and started right away. I was like, okay. Well, when it ended, I watched one more thing that that came on right after it ended. It was Kiss on Tom Snyder. You know, the famous, the very famous interview they did. Is it on with Ace? Yes. Lava. And and I've I've seen it talked about for a long time, so long, you know, about Gene and Paul and how they're just you know, at the very start of it, you know, Gene does look very uncomfortable, like trying to steer it away from Ace. And I watching the entire thing, I noticed that early on Paul looks Very uncomfortable at times when Ace starts going on or Ace and Peter start talking. You can just see him darting his eyes over, like almost like, God, what's happening here? But you can also hear earlier, a lot earlier on than Gene, that Paul's trying to crack jokes too. He's trying to have a little fun on there. And by the end of the thing, I feel like that everybody was loosened up and having a good time. Even Gene. Gene, Gene, the least of everybody else, because you I think Gene wanted all the attention, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Because he's Gene. I know. But I I found that it I just found it to be a oh, it was just it's so much fun to watch that whole thing. It's like it's a whole 30-minute thing or whatever. But I feel like the representation of Gene and Paul is a little mis misconstrued. You know, it's uh and and the way they introduced Kiss on there, they're playing I Was Made for Loving You, and I'm like, why don't you play a song that represents more of what KISS was has been about, you know, like Detroit Rock City or something.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But I mean, yeah, that's if anyone's never seen that, uh, even my even my my friend, the big Kiss fan himself, Kissy McKiss butt, if he's never seen that, you really should, it's worth a watch just because Ace is just oh man. I mean, I hate to say Ace is just on another planet, but he's so he is so he's so great in that interview. He's just so funny and just out of this world. I mean, to use an ace Fairly song title as well. So but uh that's yeah, that's my watching and uh concert going for the week, Matt. Uh did you listen to any uh did you go to any concerts or watch anything or any any podcast, maybe?
SPEAKER_01No, there was no Brit Floyd or anything to that effect for me, concert-wise. No concerts here. Uh, but I listened to some Uncle Steve's Mega Maiden zone.
SPEAKER_05Oh wait, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I got I got it right, didn't I?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Mega. Well, the waffle, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I had to stop and think. No, well, it wasn't the waffle that I listened to initially. Oh, okay. Because I saw the behind the scenes. I was like, ah, you know what? I want to listen to the behind the scenes first. Oh, you should never do that. No, that's what I wanted to do. It's always supposed to be after. Yeah, I know, but then this way But I'm mad. I would segue into Okay, the parts.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, okay, I got you.
SPEAKER_01Into the waffle, yeah, and then come back and listen to the rest of it.
SPEAKER_05Okay, fair. That's fair enough, then, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, I thank you for treating that as uh fairly as you did. Uh so it was only because there was going to be a guest. So I wanted to hear the bit behind the scenes. Okay. I wanted to hear the start of the call with whoever this guest was going to be. And long story short, on the behind the scenes, I I was very amused. You kept okay, so it was Jay. We all know that. He did a pretty good job there on Jay. Um, that you were telling him that you had to leave because you were traveling the next day, and I've got to leave in seven hours. Yeah. I was like, hang on, but there's still 40 minutes left on this on this episode. I know, I know. I was like, what happened for 40 minutes? Well, then you ended up leaving six hours, I guess.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we six hours later.
SPEAKER_01You talked for almost another hour again.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. Well, you heard the conversation. I did, it was one story. Was it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You just wanted to tell him one more story 40 minutes later. Trying to remember what story I told him. I I don't remember now. I I just was amused at the time. Um Yeah, I've got to go, I've got to go. I've got to go somewhere in seven hours and I gotta do this, gotta do this.
SPEAKER_05Well, you know, you get on you start talking and then you just you you enjoy in the conversation.
SPEAKER_01And it it was a waffle.
SPEAKER_05You know what it reminds me of, you saying that? It reminds me of the very first time I ever spoke to you on the phone doing your uh Iron Maiden story. And I remember I kept telling you that I had to get off the phone because I didn't know.
SPEAKER_01I do recall that. And you just were like, just one more thing, one more thing. Well, yeah, I feel like ah, this is my this is my 15 minutes of fame here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'll never speak to you. I'll never talk to him again.
SPEAKER_01I'll never hear from him again.
SPEAKER_05Except every night of the week when I was driving to Houston on your couch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a couple of days later, what's he called me for? And um, what's he called me for again?
SPEAKER_05I just remember the one time I was on the phone with you and and I remember saying something like, Yeah, well, something so godly it's already two o'clock. You go, it's two o'clock in the morning. I can still remember where I exactly where I was driving by in Houston. And you and you were like, I gotta go, I gotta get up and I gotta be up in four hours. I gotta go to bed. Yeah, I gotta go to bed.
SPEAKER_01I gotta and I've got to unwind before I go to the bed.
SPEAKER_05I gotta go watch TV for 45 minutes first. They do unwind. As you do, as you do.
SPEAKER_01But I but I listened to the waffle uh last well it was last week when you did it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you had you said you had some takeaways.
SPEAKER_01I did, and so there was a couple of funny little things. So I was working when I was listening to it, and so I heard Jay mention my name and he sucked me in when he did that. Of course. Not because he was talking about me, but I thought he was I don't know if he was trying to allude to something that he had listened to, and I thought, ah, I because I actually turned it up when I heard him say something else.
SPEAKER_05As soon as you heard your name mentioned, I heard my name.
SPEAKER_01Uh yes, I turned it up so I could listen to it even better, make sure I get everything that I need to hear.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because I thought he was gonna mention creator. He's gonna tell me he went and listened to creator. This is cool, and then he sprung some jutsu on me.
SPEAKER_05That was pretty of course that was funny until he started giving all his opinions.
SPEAKER_01I was like, uh he did well on that. He he played the same little trick that you did with, and I fell for it again.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But it was interesting. One thing that really was genuinely interesting was to hear like a real podcaster lead the waffle. I wasn't used to that, it's been a while since that's happened. And I I did think you had met your match in Jay. I think that Jay pretty much owned you last week. Until that last 40 minutes of the call, which is the behind the scenes, yeah. He pretty much he owned you last week.
SPEAKER_05So I want you to describe what you uh what owned means when you say it.
SPEAKER_01Hey, he had everything for you. He had gold. I I thought he'd run rings around you last week.
SPEAKER_05Well, good. He was he was the perfect guest though, given the Pink Floyd thing, you know. Yeah. The only only better one possibly might would have been Bruno. You know, because Bruno's written a book about it, so he's gonna know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, so I was having a bit of a laugh there and I was enjoying it all, I thought it was good. And then uh you got to your black label society, and I realized that this still makes me sigh. Because I'd sighed and heard myself audibly do it, and then realized what just happened.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, just so I talked about oh, you it's funny, you mentioned it that someone had listened to, or mentioned that someone posted a note on whatever it was, and five minutes later you've come to check it out. I had a note here. One thing I find really strange and odd is to hear support for what the other person listens to. I was like, I wonder what that feels like. What did he listen to that I supported? Whatever he mentioned, you were very favorable to everything.
SPEAKER_05He didn't know how to take it. He talked about deep purple. I didn't really say much about that.
SPEAKER_01No, but you didn't trash talk it either.
SPEAKER_05Well, Jake, you gotta be nicer to your guests, you know. Oh, is that what it was? You know how they say it's the people you love the most that you treat the worst.
SPEAKER_01Oh, is that what it was? Okay, I was I see I wasn't picking up that.
SPEAKER_05I was putting it down, you know.
SPEAKER_01And then it was nice to hear even Gen had a mention of creator. I was like, Oh, here we go. Here we go.
SPEAKER_05And then I was like, oh, again, hey, he said he listened to 20 songs.
SPEAKER_01I know. All he had to do was listen to one album. Although he didn't he did name some good songs in there, but I I can see if it's not your thing, it's not your thing. And he was very nice with what he said.
SPEAKER_05Well, I said the music was really good when I played it that one time. I just said that once the vocal started, it wasn't for me.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean that's fair, right?
SPEAKER_01But it's fair enough, I guess. But yeah, it was just very fun to hear all these compliments and everyone just there's so much love last week. Um, but no, it was good. Good listen there with Jay. He knows how to run a how to run a show there. We take some pointers from him, we should.
SPEAKER_05Especially the Well Maybe he'll write a book. Anything else? Any other podcasts?
SPEAKER_01Uh the only other thing I listened to was Bill. So Bill. Yeah, or Billy. He had uh well, as it turns out it was Bill and Ted during the week. Bill and Ted's bogus journey. Oh, okay. I was like, hmm. I'd imagine that you were probably a fan of this sort of thing, weren't you?
SPEAKER_05The movie or the soundtrack?
SPEAKER_01Uh probably well, the movie.
SPEAKER_05Well, I will say the soundtrack has one of my absolute favorite Megadeth songs of all time on it.
SPEAKER_01What was it again?
SPEAKER_05Go to Hell.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_05I love it. I've done that at karaoke, and that's a lot of fun to do.
SPEAKER_01So I think that was all I listened to. I had to listen to that. Bill just running through all the tracks there. But Bill and Ted, yeah, that was huge when it came out, but it was just not really that sort of thing. That was a bit Wayne's world y. I don't know what to do. No, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_05Bill and Ted seemed a little more authentic as far as being just rock and roll guys, whereas Wayne's World felt like they were just just too they were just acting really, really stupid. Like they didn't like they were trying really hard to be stupid. Whereas Bill and Ted, maybe I'll say it this way, those guys must be really good actors because they played kind of dumb. You mean Keanu Reeves? Yeah, yeah. But they believe you they were believable good act, they were believable in their roles a bit. Whereas Wayne's world, they were just I'm trying to stra restrain from saying a word, but go on say it.
SPEAKER_01It's not like you've never just cut a word.
SPEAKER_05They were just like a couple of total retards, you know. They can't say that. Okay. They were just they were just as stupid as you could be. And I hated like just, you know, like just I I mean, I appreciated a tiny bit of it, but it was just so dumbly done, you know.
SPEAKER_01I didn't care for either of them. I thought they were all. I did like the Bill and Ted.
SPEAKER_05I've seen all three Bill and Ted's with Sarah, so because they put a third. Anyway. Yeah. Okay. So I w I did want to add one thing. The song that made me cry by Pink Floyd is called The Thin Ice. And it starts out the lyrics that says, Mama loves her baby and Daddy loves you too. And man, when he as soon as he sang that last night, I I just I mean, I was trying not to let my wife see me. But I I mean I could you can't control when it's just pouring down your face. But I don't know if you've ever heard it, but I'll just let you hear how the song starts here. Huh?
SPEAKER_01I don't think I've heard it. I don't think I've even heard it.
SPEAKER_05It's just if it would be if if you listen to the wall, it's just one of the small song and pieces in there. So, but this is how it starts. So nice. Uh David Gilmore has just he's got like a real like soothing voice when he sings like that. But yeah, whenever he says that mama loves your baby and mama loves her baby and daddy loves you, when he you know, because it I it just made me you know, I've been listening to that and it was something that's hit me for a week, but you know, the other day watching Sarah drive away, you know, because normally uh I saw a thing and it said, if your parents ever, you know, waved goodbye as you drove out the driveway all the way down the street until you couldn't see him anymore, then you know, some kind of thing that my mom sent me like that. And so the other day when she was leaving, uh I just was, you know, just kind of stood out there and was talking to her, talking to her about going to work, and then she was leaving, and I just kind of waved, I just thought I waved at her as far as she could see me.
SPEAKER_01So I just come back.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, she's she has already.
SPEAKER_01She'll she needs guest money.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. So it's and according to my phone, she's just left work right now. So but um, so let's get into the real quickly, the people that shared the podcast last week.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'd imagine it's a plethora.
SPEAKER_05Plethera because of the guest, huh?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So let's find out. So uh what's that?
SPEAKER_01Annual seriousness, I think Jay did a very good job.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it had a good job.
SPEAKER_01But doesn't have.
SPEAKER_05Other than other than the fact that he just couldn't control his mouth, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Did you hear the first incarnation of the podcast or the second one?
SPEAKER_01Uh what happened.
SPEAKER_05The second one didn't have a conversation with me and Sarah in it. I would assume that's the one.
SPEAKER_01I did hear the first of it. You put it right in the end though, didn't you?
SPEAKER_05No, I'm talking about I it was originally on the waffle. I forgot to edit it out because I heard I heard parts.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure I heard parts of it.
SPEAKER_05That was on behind the scenes. I put that I put it on behind the screen. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01That's what I heard because Jay was singing on to something.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he was I could hear him in one ear and I was trying to talk to Sarah.
SPEAKER_01And he was giving sage advice on what to do with going to uh Sarah's friend's house and the parents.
SPEAKER_05Oh gosh, yeah. So here we go. Okay, so it said um the okay, well, the episode that came out last week. Matt didn't ask for it, nor did you. But here it is. This weekly the Baker's dozen of Iron Maiden questions has arrived. They come from a less intelligent member of the community, so be ready. Rapid fire, fast and furious, they come and go. Cheers and enjoy. And so that one wasn't shared a lot, you know, because people are you know sick of it.
SPEAKER_03Because they because they heard it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Uh yeah. His royal dude Niss Dave in the USA. Uh the happiest man in podcast land, Genmar Utani in Chiba, Japan. Um Finnish friend who uh who apparently is a fan of pedophiles getting shot in airports, Matt.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't think apparently.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01From what I remember, it was yeah, pretty much. Pretty much on the ball there, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Um, yeah, okay. It's a villa in Vega Killa. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely, yeah. Uh the Rock and Rolla, the uh Ayatollah of Rock and Roller, yeah. The uh the official um hopeless romantic.
SPEAKER_01Oh, do you know? I was a bit disappointed actually. You spoke to him for how long, plus an extra 40 minutes, and didn't ask him once what he's been cooking or what happened.
SPEAKER_05He was always saying what he was cooking. I know, I don't know. So I I don't know. Uh Outback Mark in uh Alice Springs. Uh you're the official biographer of Matthew, Simeon in France. Although we haven't heard any juicy details or stories lately, Simeon.
SPEAKER_01I've gone I've gone to Grand, he can't get anything.
SPEAKER_05He's underground. All right. Well, Simeon, just ask me and I'll let you know what I can tell you. If you want to know about you know getting picked up at the airport or anything like that. Uh the next up, uh, the scouse chatbot 1.0, David Laird, Liverpool, England.
SPEAKER_00Silent Gav in Alice Springs. He says mad as whack. He's right.
SPEAKER_05And lastly, Ron Cougar Kramer camp in Washington State. Cougs. We had a waffle zone last week. We did. A lot of interesting discussions on there, too. I will I got I got a a text message from somebody, a couple of people about it. Um this week on the waffle zone, one, some political talk. Oh, yeah, that was that was very interesting. That was a shocker for me. I was just like, uh I I turned into you during pedophile talk almost. Uh two, some Pink Floyd talk. Three, a new perspective on things. I don't remember what that is meaning. A whole waffle.
SPEAKER_01James perspective.
SPEAKER_05Okay, yeah, that's true. Four, the love of Roger Waters. Five, a hopeless romantic, six, six, six, seven ways to win, eight, questions for Bruno McDonald, and nine hashtag Francis McFrybutt. And as you said, this one got a few more retweets and quit quotes. The reposts first were done by Troll Dudenist, Dave in the USA, Jesse the Riffweiser in Illinois, Ken Mario Tani, the uh the most uh skilled question answerer there is uh Villy Wally Werta in Finland Matt. Uh the Hopeless Romantic, Rock and Rola, Kirsty Prince in Perth, Australia, Randy in Cincinnati, Ohio, uh Sparky in Alice Springs, uh David Lair, the Scouts Chatbot 1.0 Silent Alice Springs. And lastly, Ron the Cougar Kramer can. Now the Quick Choice, Matt. Got a lot of Quick Choits this week. Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise. First off, we'll uh actually I'll I'll think I'll read that one last. First off, we're gonna start with our Finnish friend. Special uh special K, one of the special Ks. Special K, yeah. Special K? Mega friend. Yes, Mega, yeah. He says, What's been cooking in the waffleverse this week? Is it a nasty surprise? Perhaps a devil in disguise. Listen in and find out. He was giving it away without giving it away, Matt. Now, yeah. Kirsty, speaking of K's, Kirsty Prince. And she says, You're in for surprise. You're in for a shock. Without warning, something's dawning. Listen. There's a surprise special guest star this week, and it was great to hear him give some love for Led Zeppelin 3 and perfect strangers. I swear though, Matt, every Led Zeppelin song he named, I didn't know how it went.
SPEAKER_03I believe that.
SPEAKER_05I was waiting for I was just waiting for one. I was like, I hope this one song that I really like is on there, and then he says it on the other side. Let's see here. Um, so I did a quiet short as well, and I said, if you heard the original version of this episode, you heard a conversation with Sarah and I, plus some unedited profanity. If you didn't hear it yet, then you'll only hear that on Patreon as it's now been edited out. Thank you, Kirsty Prince. Because I woke up and she said, You it you missed one profanity and there's a conversation with you and Sarah. And as soon as she said that, man, I was like, oh no, you know.
SPEAKER_01You got one past the keeper.
SPEAKER_05Well, I I just I just didn't I forgot to edit it. I was too busy editing all the profanity out.
SPEAKER_01Well, I I don't know. You're not used to having to do all that.
SPEAKER_05I know, I didn't editing. I know, I told her I know. We we don't do that anymore. We don't what is that? Okay, so next off, we actually got one from your uh one of your one of your mates, one of your not mates, sorry, one of your one of your favorite people, uh, someone I'll just refer to as potlay. Uh, potlay. Mr. Chip Ross in California, and he says, Jay, the co-host, hated on Senjutsu, but defends Nostradamus. Make that make sense. That's a big deal if you're getting Chip to do a quick trope, you know?
SPEAKER_01He must have been listening.
SPEAKER_05Uh yeah. He said, uh, Matt's not there this week. I guess uh here's what I can do.
SPEAKER_01Here's what I can listen to.
SPEAKER_05So the next one goes like this, Matt. Well, who could this be?
SPEAKER_01Who could it be now?
SPEAKER_05Right country. You got the right country. What a surprise it was to hear the wisdom and humor from Steve's waffle guest this week. A 10-man band lover, a lover of Judas Priest, a lover of Pink Floyd, a lover of Deep Purple, and a lover of his podcasting co-host, Doomie McDoombutt. Yes, the Mighty Jay was on board along with Steve, and together they did some deep dives that probably broke maritime records. There were some cracking one-liners, some very funny perspectives, and a lot of car horn sounds over his talking. I'm making my eyes water up. I gotta keep reading.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, how could you follow up and act like that last week?
SPEAKER_05I know, I know. Uh let's see, uh a lot of car horn sounds over his talking, just like me.
SPEAKER_01Are you missing them? The car horns?
SPEAKER_05No, not at all. No.
SPEAKER_01What time is it? Take the time.
SPEAKER_05I'll just have to hope AI catches that. Okay. Go on. There was rub the the water out of my eyes here.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad you clarified on that too, by the way.
SPEAKER_05There.
SPEAKER_01But it was water in your eyes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Um. Where am I? Just like me, I'm sure a lot of people straight away listen to Perfect Strangers by Deep Purple after the hilarious analogy Dave gave the album. And I bet if I don't edit that out, you'll be very upset. Oh, it's for Jay. Because nobody has ever heard you say that on a on an episode.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I bet they haven't.
SPEAKER_05I uh quote, This album has a groov this album have a groovy rock and roll pocket. It wraps you in a rock and roll blanket. It keeps you all warm. It feeds you like chicken soup. That's what just one of the weirdest sentences I've ever read or heard.
SPEAKER_01I was like, you're kind of struggling for stuff.
SPEAKER_05Or uttered in my life. Um just gold. And what he said about knocking at your back door. Who doesn't like a good butt place? When he said that, I just kind of thought, oh feel like I had Kirsty and you back on here talking about that Bruce Dickinson song that you already referenced earlier. Bloody hilarious. We can uh we can it was a maiden song.
SPEAKER_01That's what we're supposed to do.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. We can even almost forgive him for what he said about senjutsu, which was pretty brutal. But the way Jay built Steve up to believe he was going to like it, which I knew Jay didn't like it. I just forgot. I forgot he didn't like it. Very well played. Anyway, Steve was on a massive Pink Floyd deep dive, and why the hell not? Such an influential band. Anyway, great episode, guys, and very amusing. Well done. Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. Next up, next up, Matt, we got a quiet. I mean, we're we're hitting royalty here on the podcast royalty at this point.
SPEAKER_01Can't believe all these people still listening.
SPEAKER_05I mean, this is a guy who wrote a Pink Floyd book in the 90s.
SPEAKER_01Bruno Someone with a reputation.
SPEAKER_05Bruno McDonald.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_05Um so many bonkers verdicts on Pink Floyd in a single show. And even a deepish dive into Roy Harper. Great fun with Crazy Jay. But alas, no mention of the link between gun smoke and is there anybody out there? Because he talked about gun smoke a bunch, didn't he? Yeah, he did. I remember, I remember um Jeff mentioned it. Jeff is gonna mention it. If and then he and then he then he threw me the line where I just thought, oh, if I do a Pink Floyd deep dive show, I don't know who to have on. If only you had a friend who'd written a book about the band. And then he wrote And you know, you know, Bruno is such a huge Ace Fraley fan, too, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And he ended his uh thing here with Hey Pink Floyd.
SPEAKER_01I mean does Ace to wish you were here. Oh God.
SPEAKER_05I'm not gonna do it right now. I'll tell you what.
SPEAKER_01Patreon. No, no, I'm not going to. Never mind. I've moved on.
SPEAKER_05You listen to it this week, and you you come back next week, I'll sing it on this episode.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I think you're gonna say something else. Yeah, I'll listen to that.
SPEAKER_05Okay. The whole album.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'll tell you I'll listen to that.
SPEAKER_05Okay, here we go. The next one, man. Listen to we're getting we're getting people out of the woodwork here. Next up is our friend from uh Ireland, one of our friends from Ireland. Yeah. Who who spent the night with me one night in Ireland, and I spent the night with him one night in Ireland. Ballad. Okay. Um I was waiting. Yeah, I gave it a little pause. Maybe maybe you'll remember this because I don't maybe because I was on in involved in the conversation, I don't remember this. But you tell me what you remember about what what this man is gonna say to us here. He says, trigger warning. Someone says, Come on, repeatedly. Do you recall that? Did Jay say come on repeatedly?
SPEAKER_01Not that I recall.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't and then he said, but redemption with some refreshing opinions on senjutsu. He doesn't like senjutsu ballads.
SPEAKER_01I can tell.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So uh Lord Andrew of Sussex, the most English of English gentleman, says, absolute joy to have Jay as a guest waffler, and that man can waffle. He waffles around you. Yeah, he waffles so hard, Steve's horn gets a damn good bashing. Um I will be honest.
SPEAKER_01Um You had to be very horny with him on the last morning. I was like you on overtime.
SPEAKER_05I gotta admit, there were a few times where we were going on and where where he was talking, and I just thought, I gotta wake up early in the morning. It's a little horns. Next up, we got one from uh Metal Kevin, Bill. I never skip in the waffle until this week. I couldn't listen to half an hour of talking about Pink Floyd.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's interesting.
SPEAKER_05They are very average. Did you and and when I hear as soon as I heard that, I was like, I think of some of the albums I've heard him review and gloat on. And I'm like, do you did you ever listen to the one he did where he was reviewing an album by the drummer of Pink of uh not Pink Floyd, the drummer of um Queen?
SPEAKER_01Correct the correct answer here is of course.
SPEAKER_05Of course you have. It is just absolute garbage. And I I'm like, you're calling them average, and and that I've heard him r uh just go on and on about some how great some things are, and I'm just like, okay.
SPEAKER_01But you know look what the cat dragged in.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But again, you know, it there is that that old phrase that I used to say at the very beginning of my podcast that I somehow I lose track of it sometimes. But music is art, and art is subjective, you know, and you know what a painting that might bring one person to tears might someone else might not even get it.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, you need more than just vanilla in your life.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Lots of flavors, absolutely, yeah. So um, so he said uh they're very average. Great to hear Jay up and about, and the endless enthusiasm of both he and Steve make this a fun listen, except for the Pink Floyd.
SPEAKER_01He kept you. Yeah, I was gonna say he kept you on your toes. But that's I don't think I've ever heard anyone. That's a pretty bold comment to say that they're just average. I'm not saying I haven't listened to it enough, but I've never heard anyone like downplay them before.
SPEAKER_05It's I mean, I know some people don't like it. Like I I could understand it if someone just said boring. Because there's times where it's just like, or it takes a long like that one song that's there's a song called Echoes, the one I told you about. It's 23 minutes long.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05There's some magnificent parts of the song at the beginning and in the end, and the way the song kind of it goes into this big middle section, and and then it takes pieces from the very first song on the album and uses that as a building piece, like very lightly, if you listen and you hear it, and then it builds back into the song, and it's very cool. But I can understand it if someone just listened and goes, I just it's too mellow and just boring, or I can understand that.
SPEAKER_01Because Al Bat was a fan of it, wasn't he?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was just thinking like border war between the two. Yeah. I feel two people I respect greatly in their you know, what they listen to and what how they describe each band. What am I to do?
SPEAKER_05I think when he says average, I think he just means it bores him, is what he thinks.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05So here we go. The last queek trout of the episode, Matt. This is from one of the biggest uh Bon Jovi and Kiss fans that I know. Doomy McDoombutt.
SPEAKER_01Is he a Bon Jovi fan?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he was listening, uh he was in the gym. Uh listening, he he he posted on Twitter that he was listening to them in the gym the other day.
SPEAKER_01Probably giving love a bad name is what he was doing.
SPEAKER_05He says, was not expecting Jay on the pod. I've been doing a pod with Jay for three years, and I this is funny.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's cheating he's cheated on him.
SPEAKER_05I no no no that that's not what he's gonna say. What he's gonna say is almost funnier. I've been doing a pod with Jay for three years, and I would never have guessed how much he loved Deep Purple. Jay okay. Jay said pocket so many times that I never want to hear that word again. I don't recall him saying pocket either. Did he say pocket a lot?
SPEAKER_01I don't recall, but I just think it didn't do me take his ears off.
SPEAKER_05Well, I think so. But what I'm asking you, Matt, is did did he say pocket too many times?
SPEAKER_01Because I don't remember a lot of things.
SPEAKER_05I don't remember him saying pocket. Do you remember him saying pocket?
SPEAKER_01Not off the top of my head.
SPEAKER_05Can you give me an instance where he said pocket? I don't understand where he said pocket.
SPEAKER_01I had to put my keys in something, so I put them in the pocket.
SPEAKER_05Put them in your pocket. I I just don't know of anyone saying pocket so many times or even why he would have said maybe they played in the pocket, maybe why he said pocket? Maybe nobody. I just I don't know. Why would he even why would the word pocket offend somebody?
SPEAKER_01You guys are around talking about pockets all day.
SPEAKER_05I don't know. I guess it would have to be a guy that you know and then the thing is if you ripped the wit pocket. And then if you ripped your ears off because you didn't want to hear um uh Thor, where would you put him? You'd you wouldn't have a pocket to put him in.
SPEAKER_01In your pocket.
SPEAKER_05Okay. So he says, uh, continued, Steve. There's a thread. See, he because he knows one time I missed a thread he put in. I was out of the pocket that week, so.
SPEAKER_01One pocket?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. He says, uh, remember those hot pockets, those things you could heat with the microwave? Uh he says, proving Jay's point about him not knowing much, he said the first purple album was 72. I'm so disappointed that since I've been loving you is Jay's favorite song. Oh God, Pink Floyd. What the hell? You know what I gotta admit, there was a post by Doomy McDoombud a while back where he was talking about Pink Floyd to somebody, and he was he was talking bad about him to somebody who was talking good about him.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_05I honest to God, and I know he's gonna hate it when I say this, that's what kind of made me get into my thing. Because after I read that, it made me want to go listen to the wall, and I think I went and listened to the wall, and then I decided I wanted to kind of discover their catalog a little more, and so doomie, it's kind of your fault.
SPEAKER_01It's like double agent talk. I know he suckered you in on purpose by doing that, and he hates them.
SPEAKER_05Does he though? He needs to find a cave to climb into or maybe a pocket to crawl into. Uh Steve. Oh, this was funny to me. Okay. He says, Oh god, Pink Floyd, what the hell? Steve says, they did a movie soundtrack, Jay. Yeah, from a film. Wise words. From a film. What else would they do? From what? Oh, that made me laugh. Uh, from a film. Uh continued. I thought I was effing sweary. I was the effing sweary one. Damn it, Jay. Did not expect ten minutes of gun smoke talk. And then I wrote, I don't remember all the pocket talk. And then Jay wrote, The lock was in my pocket when Lucy met the rocket. She never knew the reason why. Knocking at your back door. Oh, it was from the song Knocking at Your Back Door, which is a deep purple song. And with that, Matthew. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Cheers, everybody.
