Shoot Podcast. I'm Jeff Dowd, and I've been a licensed firearm dealer for the last 19 years, and this podcast will talk about all things related to the Second Amendment, anything else going the world, a sports story, or anything else that I might find interesting. So welcome, welcome, welcome. So today I wanna talk about a story that honestly is one of those stories that we wish, uh, got more attention in the mainstream media, and you, you probably know why it doesn't. Because it goes against the narrative. It goes against the idea that armed citizens are the problem. The story out of Idaho proves that exact opposite. So here's what's happened. If you haven't heard, there was a mass shooting incident in, in Idaho Where an armed citizen, a regular person, not law enforcement, not military, uh, stepped up, engaged the shooter, and by doing so, he saved lives, period. It's no speculation, it's no spin. That's what happened. So here's the detail that we know. It was at an In-N-Out Burger uh, that was brand new, opened only a couple weeks, Saturday, busy, crowded, and there was a shooter that had a rifle, and he started firing at vehicles. Witnesses described him as looking unusually comfortable aiming the rifle at those cars. He seemed practiced, he seemed deliberate, and he wasn't panicked in erratic situ-- in this erratic situation. This was a guy who appeared to know what he was doing, and he was putting rounds into vehicles where people were sitting. And the end result was we had three people lost their lives, and I think there's seven people currently injured, but it could have been much worse. And why could it have been much worse? Because something changed, something that wasn't in the shooter's plan. An armed citizen started returning fire. Um, and according to witness accounts, as soon as his, those rounds started coming back at the shooter, his demeanor changed, his comfort disappeared. He went from being the aggressor in total control to suddenly having to deal with incoming fire, and that disruption, that moment where the dynamic shift that saved lives, it, it, it saved seconds that allow more response time and distrac-- and more people the opportunity to get away. So think about it. Think about what would have happened if that armed citizen had not been there. Think about how many more rounds that shooter would have put into those vehicles. How many more families would be destroyed right now? How many more people would be in the hospital, worse? The armed citizen changed the outcome of that event, and he did it because he was armed, because he was willing to act, and because in that moment, he was the only thing standing between the killer and more victim. Now, here's what frustrates me, and I think it frustrates a lot of you. This story will get a fraction of the coverage that it deserves. When there's a mass shooting, and the only response is law enforcement arriving minutes later, it's wall-to-wall coverage. It's calls for more gun control. Politicians standing on podiums telling us that the answer is fewer guns in the hands of citizens. But then an armed citizen stops the killing, and when a good guy with a gun does exactly what always s-- we always say a good guy with a gun can do, it's crickets, or it's buried on page twelve. And I'm not saying this to be cynical. I'm saying it because it matters. These stories will tell shape the policies we accept. If the American public only ever hears about firearms being used to harm people, of course, they're going to lean more restrictions. But if they hear the full picture, that firearms are used defensively hundreds of thousands of times a year, that armed citizens regularly stop violent crime, that situation like this in-- one in Idaho happens more often than the media wants to admit, then the conversation changes. So what does it mean for you? One, it means we need to share this to people. Talk about it. Don't let it disappear, because every time one of these stories gets buried, it makes it a little easier for the other side to pretend it didn't happen. Now, let me also say this. What that guy did, it took a lot of courage, a ton of courage. Engaging an active shooter with a rifle is something that most people are not prepared to do, and it highlights something we talk about all the time. Carrying a firearm is a responsibility. It's not just about having a gun. It's about having the training, the mindset, and the willingness to act when the out moment comes. This citizen clearly had all three. And this is why the Second Amendment matters. It's not about hunting like the left so much want you to believe. It's not about sport shooting. All those are great things. It's a fundamental right of being a human being to defend ourselves. Think about our fathers. Put your-- forefathers, forefathers, put yourself in their shoes. In the 1770s the only thing that we had, we did not have an army. We didn't have the, the Marines and the Navy when we went up against the biggest empire that existed at that time, Britain, England. We had armed citizens And, and the guns that they brought were the ones that they had on, in their homes. And those militia is what would form the initial re- re- uh, revolution and soldiers that we eventually went up against this big uh, armed military that was the greatest of its time. And really what was one of the powder-- things that lit the powder keg? It was when the king sent his regulars, the Redcoats, to Concord and Lexington, and what were they doing? They were going there to get the weapons that the colonists had been storing up. They'd heard that the colonists were storing up weapons, and they were gonna go confiscate those. Hmm, sounds familiar. What would people wanna do today? Confiscate these weapons. And the farmers said, and the shopkeepers said, "Well, we weren't having any of it," and they pushed back, and they sent a message. They weren't gonna stand for it. And that was the basis for the Second Amendment. Our forefathers knew that this ability had to be protected. But, we know law enforcement does great, great, great work. This is not a defund the uh, law enforcement podcast by any means. But we have nothing but respect for them, but we're-- they can't be everywhere all the time. Response times are measured in minutes, and active shooter situation, seconds matter. And that armed citizen in Ohio-- Idaho didn't have minutes to wait. He had seconds, and he acted. So here's the bottom line. This isn't just about one incident in Idaho. It's about the principle that an armed so- society has the capacity to protect itself. It's about the reality that gun control laws would not have stopped that shooter but might have prevented the citizen from being armed. It's about the fact the Second Amendment isn't some outdated relic. It's about a living, breathing right that saves lives in the real world in real time in situations just like this one. So the next time somebody tells you that civilians don't need firearms, that nobody needs to carry a gun, you tell them about Idaho. Tell them about a man who heard gunfire, saw a shooter putting rounds into cars full of people, and instead of running, he drew his weapon and he fought back. And because he did, people are alive today who wouldn't be otherwise. That's the story, that's the truth, and that's what we need people to know that that is the purpose of the Second Amendment.
