Speaker 1:

On this episode of the Powers Point Podcast, scott and I have a talk with someone who is an actress, a musician, a painter, an art historian and so much more. The lovely and talented Natalie Butari.

Speaker 2:

Hey, scott, drop the beat. Thank you.

Speaker 4:

Well, hello, hello. Welcome to the Powers Point Podcast, season 5, episode 14. I'm Scott Powers and with me, as always, is the one and the only Jim Banks. What's going on, man?

Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm pretty good.

Speaker 4:

Real good. You know, we got an interesting guest on today and I've been wanting to talk to her for about a year now, since I started doing the Pink is In cast member interviews and we got her here, so I'm super excited about this. She's so talented and for people that are like who you know I know Jim said Natalie Batari, but you can look her up under Farrowin P-H-E-R-O-I-N-E on all the listening apps she has some amazing sounds and I know you guys would like it. So let's uh, let's show some love and play some of her music at your house or in your car or, you know, at work.

Speaker 1:

Just give it a try, because it's really cool and, more importantly, uh, let her know about it too. You send an email or whatever with the device to let her know a response, to say, hey, I love this song, or tell her, you know if it was good in this stuff yeah, and you can look it up on instagram and that's uh feral and I already spelled it was good in this stuff.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, and you can look it up on Instagram and that's Farrowin, and I already spelled it out but in case you weren't listening P-H-E-R-O-I-N-E Farrowin. Well, now I'm at the spelling. Bee, jim.

Speaker 1:

Some people get confused at any words longer than five or any yeah, words that have longer than five letters. It's's like confusing.

Speaker 4:

I just had flashbacks of being in fifth grade and being told to go sit down because I misspelled it, or something like crazy.

Speaker 2:

Scott, it's two words. Come on, two letters.

Speaker 4:

Come on, let's go so yeah, we had her on and I knew she would be really awesome and she was just proves. Everybody on this TV show is amazing.

Speaker 1:

She's like and a lot of people don't know like when you discover somebody, what they do, it's like she is like totally a nowadays Renaissance person how they used to say Renaissance people back in the day that does so many hobbies and so many talents and this she is really a modern day one. She is like and she still wants to do more and try different things.

Speaker 4:

That's what is amazing about her it's going to be a really amazing show between you and I. We dropped the word amazing probably 20 times now sorry, I thought I heard something about that, hey no, don't. Don't be sorry, man, because she is amazing. So what have? You been up to this week, man.

Speaker 1:

The usual rigmarole. It's been an amazing week. I just amazed at the amazement of no, no, I got a company coming over, my brother and down from south the southern part of Milwaukee, and a little town coming down to visit for this Mother's Day weekend that we all show rep and props to mothers Right on. So that's, that's the torture of family and friends coming over and you all of a sudden realize you've got to clean the house and you're starting to get an exercise and just realizing you haven't cleaned in a while but it's all good, you've got a house.

Speaker 4:

should look lived in.

Speaker 1:

I mean as a kid, you realize that you're like people are saying don't be upset with how dirty the house is, and until you have company, when you have your own place, you're like God this place is trash, don't come over here without calling me first.

Speaker 4:

I know that's what's crazy. You know that's like rule number one at my aunt's house Call first, then go over there. The door ain't opening Unless you leave and go to the street and then call and give it about 10, 15 minutes, then show up, the door will magically open. We're going to hit a commercial real fast, jim, and when we come back we're going to jump on this interview and we hope you like it as much as we did and then we're going to talk about a couple more matches that are happening at backbreaker super slam next weekend. So stay tuned, we'll be back after these messages.

Speaker 2:

Ladies and gentlemen, you want good wrestling. You want wrestling that's family-friendly and fun to watch. Well, look no further than Backbreaker Wrestling. Go to Facebookcom, slash Backbreaker Wrestling and follow all the great action here in Northwest Indiana.

Speaker 4:

Joining us on the show now is a super talented musician. From rock to classical to pop, she does it all and on top of that she plays hottie on one of my favorite TV shows. Pink is In. Please welcome, natalie Batari. Welcome to the show.

Speaker 5:

Thank you for having me Very excited to be here.

Speaker 4:

I'm watching videos of you. Your piano playing is so amazing. How long have you been playing?

Speaker 4:

since it was seven I was like jim, you gotta check these videos out. It sounds like some big concert pianist that you would see in like the orchestras or or some big concert show. It's amazing, amazing piano playing and then on top of that, your amazing singing. They're all so good. It's got like that pop sound, that kind of like it's so mixed. You know, you got your rock sounds that are on SoundCloud and I really enjoy them too. And then you got your new stuff that I love it.

Speaker 5:

Thank you so much. I love that you appreciate it. How did?

Speaker 4:

you transition from the singer music to being on. Pink is In.

Speaker 5:

Well, I actually, since I was in junior high, I've always loved being on stage, like acting, like in theater productions. I've been doing theater productions since high school and even when I came to Canada and university I did a performance at the Hart House University of Toronto and I didn't do theater studies, but I've always loved acting and actually I did my first short film in around 2009. But, thankfully, when I got in the union later on, which is 2018 ish that's when I met Lisa Crawford the producer of Pink is In. We met on set and it was actually a prison show. And then later on, I hear in 2020, no in, was it 2020? 2019.

Speaker 5:

2019 is when Lisa said, hey, want to be in the show. And then, in fact, it was a day before my flight. I had a flight to visit my family. If that day was just a a day, if it was on the day of my flight, I wouldn't be here right now wow, we wouldn't have a hottie I mean, maybe somehow I'll still be enough, but I'm so thankful that I took that day to just do the pilot.

Speaker 5:

And then, um, and then I still had to, I still had to audition. When we got picked up by bell five, I still, uh, I sent a self tape and everything. So you know awesome yeah, so yeah, and actually another cool thing is that the news we got, that we got picked up, that we got funded, was on my birthday 2020.

Speaker 4:

Wow, yeah and now I'm waiting for season four to start filming sometime because, uh, I got, I got invited by lisa to come up on the set when you guys are filming this show. I can't say enough about it. It's refreshing, it's different, you know, like everybody's like, oh, it's just a copy of Orange is Black, but it's not. You got some crazy names like Granny BJ, guard Fluffer, I mean, who named the Guard Fluffers? A lot of good, it's very. It's like a breath of fresh air. I agree, yeah, even if I have to, I forgot to say congratulations also on the show being nominated again for the actra. That's a big deal thank you.

Speaker 4:

We didn't win, but still it's an honor to be nominated again so, trish, I want to recount because, uh, they got it wrong again. You know, this year it's got to be your guys' time soon.

Speaker 5:

Oh, fingers crossed, I believe so as well. I think that there's still big things coming up for us. I feel like this is still just the beginning. That's my feeling.

Speaker 4:

I agree with that. You've had a lot of memorable scenes in the show. What is one scene that you absolutely loved when you made what is one scene?

Speaker 5:

that you absolutely loved when you made. When Pip Barnett who I have as funny affair with as you watch the show, you know what I'm talking about the scene where he's wearing the teddy bear outfit and I'm it's the bad boy session, you know and and then he offers me it was actual oysters, and I actually did have an oyster too at the end of it. That was so much fun. I think I laughed so hard that my jaws were hurting. I was laughing so hard that day. Just, the whole thing was just. I didn't even expect it. I came on set. I'm like what? No, wait, I didn't expect it. I read the script. What I came on set? I'm like what? No, wait, I did express it. I read the script. What am I talking about? But I just like, when you see it in person, it's like whoa, I did not imagine it like this, like so funny I was just mentioning that to him before he came on.

Speaker 4:

I'm like man, it's like one of my favorite scenes when, like Granny BJ walks by the room and then you see Pip just like lean forward and and I think you asked what do we have a session, or it was funny. The bear was creepy, but it was funny.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, gard Festersen, he is. This actor is incredible. Like his facial expressions were on point, like no, I did not sign up for a bad boy session, Like it was just. The whole scene went so well and I think that was my favorite, but I did enjoy every time, of course. Every time I was on set, I always had a great time.

Speaker 1:

I was wondering what other comedy movies or TV shows do you like to get you laughing when you're stressed out or something? Do you like comedies in that?

Speaker 5:

I do, I do. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of my favorite shows. I've completed it, of course, but I want to even watch it again. It's so good was one of my favorite, is one of my favorite shows. I I've completed it, of course, but I want to even watch it again. It's so good, just such a feel-good show, but it does get emotional, but I love it. And also, um, well, seinfeld is my one of my all-time favorites trailer park boys. I just absolutely always get a good laugh. Oh man, I could just keep going, um, but yeah, those are the three that come right to mind when it comes to like sitcoms. My boyfriend loves watching Married with Children, and so sometimes we watch it together and I still, I do like it. It does make me laugh, but it's just, it doesn't hit me like the ones that I mentioned. It's older too, right, it's, it's a different era, it's dated.

Speaker 1:

Dated.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, no-transcript country, you know. So then I'm like a son of a. You know there's like so much great stuff up there and that we can't watch down here, and I think it's wrong. I'd really love talking to the TV companies and be like, well, if I want to pay the money, I should be able to see the show. I mean, that's why people resort to pirating.

Speaker 1:

I had a question about a little off the wall question. What is your favorite classic sandwich, like a PB&J or a ham and cheese, or?

Speaker 5:

something Well. I love a good tuna melt.

Speaker 1:

Okay, do you have a weird sandwich, like a weird combination of like two things, like sardines and pickles or something weird I wouldn't say uh.

Speaker 5:

I guess the only weird thing I mean people may find weird is I love uh cheese with jam or honey. Used to have uh put like raw tofu on a buttered toast and then put like honey on it. I used to have that all the time but I stopped having tofu because I hear it's not good for you, but I used to just be obsessed with that. I guess that's weird. Other than that, I can't think of anything yeah, stage name farrowing.

Speaker 4:

Yes, how did you come up with that name, or is that like?

Speaker 5:

yep, I created it um 2012, when I just before I formed my rock band. At the time, I came up with farrowing because, I'm first of all, music is like addictive right, like heroin, but it also saves us in a way like a heroin would save you. And then, um, I'm egyptian, so pharaoh, so I kind of combine them together all right, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1:

It's different, it's unusual if you could have a superpower, what would?

Speaker 5:

it be thought of this before, so invisibility oh nice yeah, I could really do some.

Speaker 1:

I can do wild things, just turning invisible on, just even save my life, you know so or even if people are stressing you out or something, you just blink and just get away, or something yep so your latest song, another day is came out this year.

Speaker 4:

You got any other tracks that are like hiding or or ready to come out that it's taken a while to come?

Speaker 5:

out? Oh, yeah, so I have. I just posted something like a teaser, this track that I'm featured in, but I'm pretty much singing the main chorus, the hook. Look at my wrist, it's looking real icy. It's called Icy, and that's coming out in like a couple of weeks. Real icy, it's called icy and that's coming out in like a couple weeks.

Speaker 5:

But because I'm not the one that, like, I'm not the main artist it's, I'm waiting for him to drop it. To be honest, guys, I've been hoping he he would drop it, like last year, because we recorded it last year, but he has other stuff to do, like other tracks. Anyhow, my own songs I have some, uh, actually still cooking right now. I have a couple of things that are hiding because they're not completed yet, and then I have a new song that's with my friend Rob and he's playing guitar in it, and so, yeah, I do have some songs coming up. So I'm going to, you know, really get that going. I really got to start dropping more tracks. People are like come on, I want to hear more, more songs, and I'm like yeah, I know, I know You're giving us like one at a time and it's like come on, I want more.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, just just like with content creators, right, like I want, I like watching asmr. I don't know if you guys like that's yeah or not, but and if I, if I don't see any more new videos, I'm like I want more. Or like even our favorite artists, like drake, or whoever like drake's, one of my favorite artists, and like I always, we always, want to just hear more and more and more because, like you said good point it's like an addictive thing.

Speaker 1:

Probably because we consume so much media with the internet so fast and so much, that we just keep wanting more.

Speaker 4:

Exactly. You know I said I told somebody cause they're like well, what kind of music does she play? Cause I'm trying to get everybody to listen, more people to listen to you, cause you're so super talented. My favorite song is like Nothing to Say. It's got like that Drake sound to it. You know it has like a Drake vibe to it. The video's good. You're dancing around with snakes on your wrist.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, my pet snake Bella.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's your snake.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, she's my pet.

Speaker 4:

Oh, that's cool, that's very cool. The one girl she's like how can she be bad? She's got snakes on her wrist and I'm like exactly.

Speaker 1:

Did you have any famous pianist growing up Like that you, when you started learning how to play the piano? Did you have any famous ones that you listened to that you really liked?

Speaker 5:

That's a great, great question but, to be honest with you, there wasn't any specific pianists I was very into, like mainstream, like artists. Really, actually, wait a second, wait a second. I don't know it depends on, like how old I was, but at some point I really admired like artists, like Tori.

Speaker 1:

Amos yes.

Speaker 5:

I really liked her a lot. She inspired me a lot. Alanis Morissette I know she doesn't play the piano but like artists like that really inspired me so much. But there was no other like famous pianist, specifically that.

Speaker 1:

I was influenced by. I gave a link to Scott and I'll have him send it to you. It's old actor from the 20s and 30s, Chico Marx from the Marx Brothers.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

And he played piano like real goofy, but it was so beautiful and he would like when he'd play the piano he'd shoot the keys with his hand like a gun and there's a couple of like. There's a bunch of movies that show him playing and I, scott, will send you the link and it's real fun. It made me kind of want to learn how to play piano when I was a kid, but I never really did. But it's just so fun watching Chico Marx playing piano back in the day.

Speaker 5:

Oh wow, you know what, now that you're bringing this up, I actually am starting to realize like Ray Charles was definitely a big inspiration as well. As far as piano stuff. I like that you mentioned the Marx Brothers as well. There's just so much talent and everyone can bring something unique to the table. You know something that's a breath of fresh air.

Speaker 1:

Like Harpo, playing the harp and stuff.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, the beauty of it, yeah yeah, it's always good to see something like that's original in some way. It the beauty of it. Yeah, yeah, it's always good to see something like that's original in some way. It doesn't have to be completely original. Something can be taken and then repurposed, or like Amy Lee from Evanescence, I think she once said that she took something that already exists but then just did her own spin on it, just kind of like Pink is in.

Speaker 4:

What inspires you when it comes to making music?

Speaker 5:

It's just a feeling in me. I just feel like always, when I was a kid, I've always envisioned being a musician. I even did like logos. I had a band name. I remember like when I was only 10, I started writing songs already.

Speaker 4:

And.

Speaker 5:

I was 9 or 10. And I even have, I still have those notebooks and I've always just loved, just loved music. And even my dad plays piano and I've learned piano since I was seven. So it's just always been like just a big part of my soul, like my. I know that sounds corny, but it just feels like it's just I can't help it. Almost, in fact, I kind of wish, I feel like it's a gift, that's a curse, I kind of wish I wasn't a musician, because I you know why Cause I'm. If I wasn't a musician, I feel like maybe I'd be more focused on other things that I like and they're probably making more money, cause I feel like music has taken a lot from me, like. But then at the same time though don't get me wrong I feel like the reward is that it's I'm giving a part of me, I'm sharing a part of me. That's what art is. It's sharing a part of you.

Speaker 5:

I'm an artist too. I paint. I've painted my whole life too. I feel like I'm a true Renaissance artist in that sense, because I write poetry. I have a poem that's published, I've written a story. I love writing too, but music, I think, is the one that's the most. I don't know how to say it.

Speaker 4:

I have to check out your art sometimes.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I kind of have a couple posts with my art, but I'm planning on doing a whole other page with and then one day I'm planning to focus more on that, but for now I'm going to focus more on music.

Speaker 4:

Do you have any upcoming projects that you could talk about music or acting?

Speaker 5:

I just have that track that I talked to you about and then the other ones that need to be finished, but I have a show of live performance coming up this month. Unfortunately, no, no TV show stuff yet or movie stuff. Oh, wait a second. I have a script, my own, my own film Right now. It's about 18 pages, so it is a short film right now. However, I want to make it a feature film and it's actually a sci-fi piece co-written by me and Joe Monaccino. He's won awards, so, yeah, so I have that that. We just are going to be looking for funding for it. So I guess that's another thing that's on the pipeline right now, and hopefully season four Pink is in, so yeah, we're going to be featured in Comic-Con this year as guests.

Speaker 4:

I'm waiting for Sucks to BS to come out with you and Sabine and Trish.

Speaker 5:

Oh, my goodness, you know she went through some stuff. I won't get into it, obviously, but basically she was supposed to already have that out, but she is thankfully back on it and she's. I've seen a bit of the edit. So yeah, that's coming out. I just don't know when, to be honest. I have to get her on the show and ask hopefully this year I mean, but again I'm not sure.

Speaker 4:

yeah, she would love, I'm sure she'd love to be on your show yeah, because she's one of the other cast members that I haven't talked to yet. Yeah, definitely, uh, get her on. But hey, natalie, I really appreciate your time and I know you got things to do and, uh, it's been an honor for you joining us and, uh, you can catch natalie on. Pink is in on to be here in the States. You guys really check it out. If you're in the UK, you can check it out on Tubi as well. Australia, mexico. It's going to be a big show. You can listen to our music on all listening apps and when you're done with that, go check out SoundCloud and listen to the other music covers, because it's amazing. Again, I really appreciate your time, thank you for being with us.

Speaker 5:

Same here. Thank you so much for having me and I love the questions. I just loved interacting with you guys. It's been amazing.

Speaker 4:

All right, you have a good day and we'll talk to you later and I'll let you know when this is all edited and put up. That's great. Can't wait to share it. All right, thank you. You too, take care, guys.

Speaker 2:

All right, bye. Hey, this is fred awanek from corner gas and you're listening to the powers point podcast. Welcome back again.

Speaker 4:

I really enjoyed that interview and the doors open to natalie anytime she wants to come on she can.

Speaker 4:

she could be on. Um. Now moving on, jim, yeah, may 18thlam Backbreaker Wrestling Griffith, indiana, at Hildebrand Hall, st Mary's. I'm the only one that says that backwards. My interview is St Mary's, hildebrand Hall. I like to be different. It'll make people realize it. So the match we announced last week was Matt DeWaar versus Johnny Motley. That is going to be a great match, an amazing match. This is going to be the amazing episode, because that's our favorite word today the amazing interviewer. Who do you got in that match, man?

Speaker 1:

Johnny Motley versus.

Speaker 4:

Matt Duar. We knew that there was a lot of variables in that match. That can happen.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to say I got to go with the anarchy again. And Johnny Motley All right, because I think he's he's going to like go back to go back and get some evil and do some evil things to Matt Duar to win.

Speaker 4:

And then we have another match. Announced is Dick Davis versus Richie Rothschild. Whoever wins that match is the number one contender for the heavyweight.

Speaker 1:

And I told you I got Richie on that one because he's going to go all out with the shenanigans and while the rough ain't looking, he's going to get that match victory for the championship opportunity.

Speaker 4:

And then announced last night we have Trog versus Tully. Berta Tully, trog's a fan favorite. Tully came in. He debuted last show, or last show yeah. And tough guy.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and I mean even though Tully has King Bishop with him. I don't know if you can control a caveman when the when the caveman starts getting angry the power of the bone or scott?

Speaker 2:

oh no, not because he carries a bone. Oh, that prehistoric dino bone, or whatever it is yeah, yeah, yeah, geez.

Speaker 4:

And then the other match that was announced jeremy hadley versus me. It won't even show it. It won't even show it on the screen. That's the way I'm going to be after the show. Dude and I all blurred in the face I'm going to come to the ring looking like that.

Speaker 1:

Uh, I got jeremy hadley you heard it here first, folks place your bets. No, you know, you're not throwing the match for you, it's's actually just not being able to.

Speaker 4:

This is truly a test for me, as a first singles match in eight years.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

You know. So, man, the last time that I went against Hadley was a three-way in like 2014. You called the action Yep To say in a three-way. This time it's me. It's going to test me and my cardio, and you know the only suggest why go ahead. No, it's just it's. You know, it's not just cardio, because when you get slammed on the ground, you get the air knocked out of you, like what happened to me last last year under the lights.

Speaker 1:

You're done, done. The only advice I'd have for you would be not that you need any, but is to like hug the ropes whenever you can, or or try to take the headlocks or the action to the rope so you can get a catch a breath, or something like I don't see hadley picking me up too much.

Speaker 4:

You know, that's one one thing I have in my favor. But I'm doing this, jim, because he threatened us he did.

Speaker 3:

I was scared.

Speaker 4:

He threatened to throw us to a table. I had the audio, I played it on here. I was touching cloth when he threatened me and he said that we would have all different commentators by the time he was done with us. Oh, man Of Spanish nature, I got to go in there, jim, and take care of business and defend our honor.

Speaker 1:

Maybe bribe the referee. If it's Carl Morris, yeah, if it's Carl Morris, just bring a snack or something and bribe him. Drop some ketchup on him.

Speaker 4:

No, then he'll go crazy, I know, I know, and then I'll move out of the way. He'll hit Hadley and we'll call it a day. But you know, there's a lot of variables for me too. You know, I got some crazy mask guy running around.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't even joke about that. That's not funny, because that could happen.

Speaker 4:

You know, like last time we were together, I thought he was coming through the ceiling because the ceiling tile was moving, not to mention.

Speaker 1:

Isn't Godzilla on the outside or something, or what's his name? That fan that does a 40-yard dash in three seconds? Oh, we got Dragon Dragon. That's it, Not Godzilla.

Speaker 4:

Dragon Godzilla.

Speaker 1:

That's only us, Jim, when we go to BC Osaka's kaijus, if you get in trouble, just ask for dragon to tag you in.

Speaker 4:

tag me tag me, brother, you'd be like. I'm not even a wrestler, I'm like man just distract matter. I'm not either. I'm not either. So this episode we're keeping short man and uh, I'm happy with it honestly. I'm sitting here thinking about it and our conversation with Natalie and we don't really need to talk about much more. No, we talked Backbreaker, we talked what was happening in the world of us, and I'm good, pretty good, you know. But before we leave, jim, yes, we need that quote, that interview, that knowledge.

Speaker 1:

Dropping something here. Breathe, brother. All right, here's my line for the day here Don't limit your challenges. Challenge your limits.

Speaker 4:

All right, I'm going to have to challenge my limit next week. Next week at the Bad Breaker See it all ties in, yeah, yeah. So we are out of here and we are. We got another good show next week. So I'm not saying why, because things can fall through, but it's going to be a good show. Give it a listen, good show. Here's a song from Natalie you guys are going to like.

Speaker 3:

Here we go, guessing, guessing. The game is over. Listen, it's a real shame. We're older now, the night is young and I Wanna have some fun. I'm guessing you made a statement when we met. I tripped on the pavement, you looked at my plate, we joked all day. Then, next time, the stimulation let my brain dead. I feel you, feeling me. It's something sexy. I need you to believe You're special to me, so don't let me go. I dig your soul. This may sound crazy, but I love you till the end of time, so don't let me go, baby, just don't let go. Sucked in a spell now burnin' up in hell. I prayed to some curse faith and boy, I fell. Wow, pay attention, cause the story is real.

Speaker 4:

I freaky your deal, so I might get high and give you the spill.

Speaker 3:

The man in my dreams, turned to reality, pleads I'm too nice but I'm no pussy. He said I can't escape what he is from me. So tell me please if this is real, like it feels for me. I feel you feeling me. It's something sexy I need you to believe. So don't let me go. I dig your soul. This may sound crazy, but I love you till the end of time. So don't let me go, baby, just don't let go. Can't confess I'm obsessed. My mind's a mess. I'm really sorry that you went through the stress. We both face and taste it. We ace it. I may be strong, as you say, but I'm faithless. We both wanna die. We both fantasize that our music makes time fly and eyes wide. Save me from this feeling. Save me from this feeling. Save me From this feeling Honestly intoxicating. So don't let me go. I did your soul. This may sound crazy, but I'll love you till the end of time. So don't let me go, baby, just don't let go.
