Teach Us to Pray | Week 2 | Matthew 6:9 | October 19th, 2025
This week, we continued our series on the Lord’s prayer, focusing on the opening lines: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name". This familiar phrase is a profound theological declaration that re-orients our entire relationship with God. The word "Our" immediately lifts prayer beyond an individualistic act, placing us within a global, historical family adopted by God, and it carries a powerful call to reconciliation with our brothers and sisters. Jesus’ invitation to call God "Abba" offers radical intimacy, yet the phrase "in heaven" balances this closeness with a majestic sense of awe for His sovereignty. To pray "hallowed be your name" is not to make God holy, but to ask that His supreme worth and perfect character would be made visible and honored in every aspect of our own lives.
