So, There I Am...
This is Travis Jay Vernon and Welcome! to the So There I Am... Podcast. I have been spending time in the outdoors since I could walk. I started out catching frogs and insects, and then hunting with everything from a BB gun and archery gear, to chasing big game with a rifle. I have been an avid fisherman everywhere I have lived and traveled. Cooking, foraging, fishing, and hunting have been a driving force for me. The only thing I am more passionate about than these things is sharing them with others and teaching those who want to learn. Along the way I have told, heard, and lived different stories.Stories told well allow a listener to live vicariously, reminisce of past experiences, or even dream of adventures to come. I will be sharing stories with you from my own experiences as a fly-fishing guide, retail manager, outdoor enthusiast, traveler, explorer and just everyday life. There will be stories from guests and stories from friends and others in different locales and varied walks of life. Every day is an opportunity for new adventures and expanding your own story. Let’s get to the stories! So, there I am…

Fall 2021 Big Game Guiding
Locations: Wyoming and Utah
I have always been fascinated by big game. Elk and mule deer are a magnificent animals and superb table fare. I love teaching others and enjoy guiding people who appreciate the wilderness and the beauty of nature. I struggle from time to time when I am guiding about the type of people that I am with. I have been doing it long enough that most of the people I fish and hunt with are repeat customers, but I also take out some new people each year. You never know what you are going to get until you are out there. I have seen best friends fall apart when the going gets tough and I have seen people that are complete opposites find a bond through hunting and fishing. This year I had a couple firsts that are worth telling the stories of. There are days when nothing comes together, or you do not make good decisions and mess up your chance. Always remember that the worst hunt can become the best in just 5 seconds. Keep at it, stay positive, and sometimes everything comes together. The pursuit is exciting, the pack out and butchering is pure work, and the meals and memories are exquisite.
Get out there and live your stories!!
