Welcome back to coming clean with Indie Lee a podcast series about living with passion, acting with purpose and being fully present. I'm your host, Indie Lee. On today's podcast, I get to sit down virtually with Carla Oates, the founder and director of the Australian beauty and wellness brand, the beauty shaft. Now for those of you who follow me on Instagram know I'm obsessed with a number of her products. For those of you who don't know, Carla is a pioneer of the inner beauty industry. She's been educating and researching the connection between gut health, beauty and wellness for over a decade. She's a three time author, journalist, mother and basic badass. Let's take a listen. Okay, everybody, you know how excited I am. I've been a huge fan of beauty chef for so long and Carla and I had the pleasure

1:00
Speaking at an event at credo a couple of months back and at one of our favorite retailers love credo, and I am so excited to say, Carla, welcome to the podcast. Thank you so much Indian so excited when my manager said, You drink a podcast in the layout.

1:22
Here good after connecting with you at credo, which is so delightful, so I'm thrilled. Thank you for having me. Oh, my pleasure. You know, one of the things I loved about doing that event and so much, you know, I've obviously been reading about you and I have the beauty chef book. I just ordered the second book too, which is actually your third book, but because for me so much is about gut health. And so what fascinating is how much both of our commitments and what we believe in are so similar as founders as mothers as women, and I thought this would be just perfectly timed with everything that's going on right now, but I thought before we even dive

2:00
into what's going on with COVID, etc. I'd love for you to share how you got started in this journey to inner beauty and gut health because you've had a lot of incredible roles in your life in different industries, which I think is fascinating. And then where you are now just inspires me because I truly believe gut health is really the key to well, overall health and not just, you know, beauty too. Yeah. Thanks, India. So, I think my journey to discovering the power of looking after your fat and how profoundly important

2:34
to me at a very young age and so, when I was young as a child and a teenager, I stuck with some externalities. And I think you know, when people think back to me when I was a kid, I went to the trailer behind me, because I was always

2:50
always racking and noise fixing my skin and it wasn't, you know, I can laugh now, but Tom, it was not fun. It was painful, and it was embarrassing.

3:00
And all those sorts of things that you know, even wear a bikini my as a teenager and I had huge patches on my legs and my arms have eczema. And my mom sent me to say a naturopath when I was around 12 and the natural path to wholeness lab tests and allergy tests, and she said I had an allergy quasispecies and so we eliminated those foods out of my diet. Some of them were, you know, it's a hot subject for a lot of people and quite intensely like gluten and dairy. And I saw a real change in my allergies and my eczema and so from a very young age, I weakness, food as medicine and what we put into our body can just have such a big effect on our on asking house that I will bang. And so fast forward us like I was working as a journalist and a stylist to magazines, but I always maintain a keen interest in health because of my experience. And I had some of that to studying that prophecy in my opinion.

4:00
While I was working as a as a writer, for magazines, but it became too difficult balancing work, and also study and I had two young children in my 20s as well. So I didn't enjoy protecting interest in natural therapies and treatments. And I landed a job as a PDF attached to mainstream newspaper. And at first I was really, really excited thinking well, I'm going to get all the CDBG and friends that I hadn't been to use of frozen, I was really into more natural, natural beauty. And when I started reading the ingredients nice because saying if you're in the natural research, and of course really interested in ingredients and the health benefits, I was really concerned with the amount of questionable ingredients in mathematic skincare, I couldn't actually quite believe it. And

4:54
it was really yeah, it was really scary and and I felt so good.

5:00
responsibility I had women from all over Sunday because I had this call and serve you know a newspaper and so every Sunday you know, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people were tapping in you know my column and rating it and getting cooking a Christmas What do you recommend to my psoriasis to my x month for my acne Marvin cools and I was looking at these ingredients in a product so I'm thinking these are not going to help you and you know and when I started doing you know,

5:31
diving seeing gradients, you know the popsicle passagens potential we were toxins. And I thought oh, this is just, you know, I was I was quite amazed by that today. And so I decided I really wanted to help change the paradigm in the beauty industry and make that my mission and help educate people on on how to pass your skin in a much more holistic way. And so I decided to make newspaper and it was interesting at the time I had so many of the other videos because he was friends had

6:00
What are you doing? to fish up ever we get to wine and dine and post up these products? I'm not gonna know there is that really great fun element, but I was gonna ask you that, like, Did people think you were crazy going from one job I would have known as I was knowing very endearingly, like I was kind about it, they were like telling you other sterile videos. And you've gone feral on us. And I'm like, I just, you know, I've done the research. And Nikki didn't understand what I was talking about at the time. And it's really interesting for a lot of those videos just to maintain friendships with and now they have their own health logs that used to be a lot around healthy skincare and got pills. And, and I said, you know, skin. So you know, you've seen so

6:42
many years later this big turn around. I had the same thing people when I left I you know, and I was in finance primarily. And people were like, doing what it's like, yeah. And they're like, oh, indeed, nobody's gonna go for clean beauty. I'm like, okay, you watch and so and look here.

7:00
We are talking but keep guys

7:03
coming you know and see you as well a lot of courage and conviction but also I guess it I mean I've always been someone who has to be truthful and and that for me is is very important and please my 30s and and so I couldn't write about these products and these ingredients anymore like I just can't do it it's just not the right thing and it's not helpful and they're expensive and I wanted to show people and patients about my experience and how foods and looking after my skin and more holistic manner really helped me and so I bought a part five penguin publishing and radicals stating your schema check it in 2002 and that was full of all natural ingredients and formulas and pop by for the skin and I became the video editor, the well being magazine and I came to call them in the Sunday Telegraph code, do it yourself etc. for about six years and different you know thousands of articles on natural health and beauty and during that

8:00
Time was raising you know my kids as well and my daughter when she had any bad experiences a baby and then I noticed that in her mind about breastfeeding for my diet and acute up but then it came back quite significantly and to allergies very prominently when she was probably around the pennies so he's not sitting through so wait

8:24
a year old. I do and a 19 year old as well. They're

8:32
eating I want what you're having because

8:35
you can see it on the picture. She's gorgeous and does not look like she has a 10 year old let alone a 22 year old but keep going because now I'm in shock You're

8:46
so lovely. But I'm 60 has her extra time back happens and really bad allergies as well. So obviously we haven't done it. You know there's a strong genetic predisposition in my family but also my husband has allergies and eczema and so she kind of got a double

9:00
I mean, and so interestingly, I stumbled across some races that on you know, I'm looking at the nerd in big love Google Scholar, and I love

9:15
the pot here.

9:18
I was like, okay, after the podcast, we might just need to set up a just a talk date.

9:25
So funny, and I'm envious. I look at some of the research that looked at the connection between certain types of bacteria in the gut, and allergies. And I'd like to think further I became really intrigued by the possible connection between you know, I got pills and allergies and x minutes close up, look back nursing, always very Nexus testing perspective, that that salsals or, you know, it's a second brain and I you know, I think goes back to its properties or counties. That's the game philosopher from years ago.

10:00
Since that, you know, all health begins in, in a diet, you know in about at least food heals, I always have Yeah. And so I became quite intrigued by it and I started to submit food for lacto fermented foods like your old, traditional,

10:19
you know, experiments like sauerkraut, texia and kazusa and it was hilarious Varroa told us you know, days bacteria bragi my kids and everyone thought it was so weird. And my daughter You know, he put my family on a God fearing protocol so eliminated certain foods like gluten, dairy, we didn't really have much anyway, but my daughter possibly going to friends houses and it's full weighting things you know that we're also not particularly healthy and that we're really explaining her her condition. And so anyway, we went on this kind of backfilling protocol in the back cooking and food and I noticed such a huge difference not only in allergies and things

11:00
Not at

11:02
all so I saw the mental benefits for her as well. Yeah. And then for me, I had my friends and family going oh my boss, what are you doing differently your skin is glowing it looks amazing and I see I'm doing just amazing all of the Plexus mental foods. And so I see literally become like the proto thirty's bacterial seven

11:21
friends second you make some today and people notice not only it wasn't just that they're seeing this HMI felt better they have more energy their overall well being improved. And so I really knew I was onto something and I you know that was really my inspiration for creating glow in a beauty powder. we possess the product and the reins and it contains 24 five superfoods, prebiotics and probiotics and also post biotics which is a really interesting new kind of fun to the frontier of biotic the moment which I'm working with on am metasystem center to the University, Dr. Andrew Holmes on the

12:00
biotics benefits of fermented foods, which basically more and more research have shown that they have an inflammatory and immune modulating properties. And it's not just about the live bugs in there. It's also about these compounds that alive bugs produce mentation process that have also all these Amazing Health Benefits. So that's really very exciting that, you know, I started in my kitchen, and we just kind of, you know, traditional sort of Ah, and now I'm working we've you know, leading microbiologist in Australia on you know, really excited the art and cutting edge to race it. We see the ramped mentioned food, interestingly, and they are he's, you know, he's really intrigued by the benefits because not only does it deliver, it delivers multiple strains of bacteria, not just one or two strains that you might find in a capsule. So you're getting broad spectrum, bacteria, you're getting bioavailable nutrition classes in these things called post biotics, which is really, really sort of interesting. So again,

13:00
Fasten on foot the full stack and it was so funny and be like you people like, you know how that so we

13:07
had What do you mean got pills? biotic, certain bacteria you're

13:13
doing? It's so weird let's dispense it will never, you'll never take off. But I knew I found this real solution to skin issues and not just the bad but I felt so passionate about it. And yeah, I just hit you know, it was really it's been a process of education and passion and I love it now that I think that's Yeah, I like it when you're passionate and you you know, I mean pardon the pun to this conversation but you know, in your gut, you're on the right path here because you're doing what's right for other people and you feel good, like, I'm going to provide something that you might not know that's going to have tremendous benefit to your life not just to your skin but like you said mental clarity overall health. It's really incredible. Yeah, it is so profound and I

14:00
loves that, you know, science has finally caught up with knightstone, you've got so many medical practitioners now, who are really acknowledging the power that health is so much research going into it in the scientific community knowing that, you know, it is where, you know, 70% of our immune system lies, it's where we make them digest nutrients is where we regulate our hormones at defying enzymes, so we need to live pathogens, and it's also going to influence memories the second brain like while there's a really strong skin, I think that skin access is also really really strong. That's right access like an information highway between you got any brain that influences your moods and how you feel so your 95% of your fuel good woman serotonin is actually made in your gut. So if you didn't know that, yeah, it's, it's just so amazing and, and that's why especially during this time of, you know, carbon cycling, you know, at home and just intense

15:00
Listening after you've gotten your microbiome it's so important to healthy 80s exercise and also meditation and all of these things we know and sleep can really impact the microbiome the gut health and because they regulate your metabolic health your brain counts your immune health it's so important right now that we first got here I listened I that's why I could not wait for you to be on the podcast and I can't wait I for those of you Well, you probably don't know yet but I mean, there's gonna be a blog post all about Carlin what she's doing because I truly find you to be so cutting edge but so passionate and so inspiring and approachable. Kind of viewing be. Thank you that I just I found inspiring to hear your story ultimately read next. I think there's nothing like creating something from your own experience, because I think the passion is, is data. Yep. I agree. I just I just it's so

16:00
I don't know. I think it's so cool. I think it's so cool and I think what you're doing is giving people another way to look at their gut health and for those who might not be chefs like myself

16:14
you know, you're making it accessible to have those type of benefits from your elements you know, and I mean, I happen to love absolutely love putting them in my waters because I don't like to drink water Personally, I just don't find it tasty, but then you've made them really good so I don't mind it's like, oh, I'm having like, like a tea almost, but make a warm or cold and they're delicious. How

16:40
do you How did you go through this process? I mean, you do all of your manufacturing you have your own facility. I can only imagine what your lab is like, but how did you decide on how to to like really start to create the the flavors and everything so that people wanted this because just like with any skincare brand, it could be effective, but if people don't know

17:00
The experience they're not going to, they're not going to repurchase it. So it goes through. So I mean, I, you know, I can take lots of different things and I'm quite disappointed that this thing but I know a lot of people can't and so you know, when you have those kind of fetuses that was funny to or really unsexy green powders you know, people have the best of intentions to use them regularly, but too often they are relegated to the best of foods because they're just unpalatable. So to me, it's like how do I pardon the pun be able to you know, present you know, give a fuel in a digestible form that is palatable and they going to enjoy and such as may flavor is really really important to know even their latest product and legal elixir and although I can see you on that formula, and six months ago, it was purely on paper and getting it right so I get to play the formula right and you know, making shirts therapeutic but sold right now.

18:00
And then you know, I'd be pushy doing some products like keymaker lixin. Australia it's unlisted medicine. It's got no all natural ingredients that stops many high levels of therapeutic ingredients. So like the sample it's got high levels of gamma linoleic acid from evening creamers, which right serenading dry and irritated skin. And so, it's also got an oil 50. It's got high levels of rosemary, which is a potent antioxidant to help keep the oil fresh and also great for protecting our bodies. Nothing from oxidative stress. And so I'm going okay, great. It's taking quite interesting now.

18:37
So am I gonna do so? We try like we just see so much testing on flavor. And so we arrived at yuzu, which we definitely fit, which is delicious. It's sort of paste somewhere between lemon orange and grapefruit and mixing that with vanilla but we went through so many different iterations of flavor. Oh, sure, man. One, one little drop per million can have such a different range.

19:00
You're going back and forth and making sure that people don't realize the amount of testing that needs to go into. And then the duplication and then going to mass testing is very different than kitchen testing. So yeah, that's crazy. And I could see my poor team, it's like, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and that is just not right. And and now it's really good because I think they the payment really on board now and I'm very much like not caught up by grade yet. Not Not, not right, not right. And, you know, to see through this level of expectation that the standard of the formulas just really, really high and that they paid him because they want it to be a beautiful experience for everybody. We want them to enjoy everyone engaged in self care and making that a really sociable and enjoyable thing. Well, I mean, just take everything that you do, I think has that essence to it. I mean, I just even just the book, like I don't, I'll admit I'm not a chef by any stretch of the imagination. Although I will tell you, I am now making my own kombucha and

20:00
My own almond and coconut milks and ah at home

20:05
empowering

20:07
this

20:09
person. Oh my gosh, I'm really taking this time you know they're now calling it the great pause and I'm taking this moment where I do have some extra time at home to to do things like this and my next thing I want to do is like I make I'm growing so many different vegetables in the greenhouse right now but I can't wait to start pickling and fermenting. I want to

20:32
see like I'd really want to get this because I do know how important it is to my gut health and I do know how important gut health is to my arthritis and all my autoimmune issues. So I'm really excited but the book itself like I bought it because I thought it was well before I knew you because it was beautiful. Oh, it's just I mean everything you do, it just has this gorgeous touch to it that invites you in to want to be a part

21:00
What you're creating, so you see what I just said about what you do? Thank you. No Listen up. Well, we can we can go into a love fest here I have a question. Yo,

21:13
you do you are having this new product launch the Omega lyxor inner beauty boost. When is that launching? Can you say yes or no, it's actually now available. It's available in the US and on our website. And it's

21:30
exciting. You're indie. As I said, I've been working really hard on this product for around three years. And I down 70 levels if you stuff you know, it's such a beautiful formula we've used, we haven't used fish oil, and I guess I'm becoming more and more concerned with call seeking practices and completion in our orders. And so we've used an algo oil which thing five semantics, you know, 55 mentation. So, this Mentos now it makes all the new kit for a baby

22:00
nickel. And even though it's not fish oil, it's got high levels of BHA and you're making trades in there as well. And what's really interesting is when you think we've been set for thought, because if they did make it great, some really important and sanitary influences, you know, overall health and well being and skin health, but say that you'll definitely see good fish because fish feed on on phytoplankton that feed on algae. So we've just been spectroscopies with some sexy algae. Oh, brilliant advice makes it makes it more bioavailable. And then we've also added system names. You know, I really want to create something that was a healthy mix of your omegas 367 and nine, because fish of course just keep your omegas make us crave something like eating too much just to be your fixes. And so I work to combine them and make a beautiful formula. We also know that when you new oils in me

23:00
have other oils that become more bioavailable than just having one a megabyte. So, the fact that we've mixed you know the oil with evening primrose oil safebox on berry oil, black cumin oil, linseed oil, THC oil mains, all those oils are actually more bioavailable to your body and utilize and so thankfully it is really helping to release dry and irritated skin. It's great for digestive health because more and more stores still have to make it sprays asked for saving also increasing microbial digest is diversity and supporting bacteria in the gut. And also it's

23:38
in the evening primrose oil which tiny Vla which is great information and dryness EPA I help supporting Nervous System health as well. And just that because that cumin oil which is a bit near make is nine and seatback so I'm very near omega sevens and they're overly anxious climate change for important for our go well bang. So you

24:00
deft at how half folding. And I'm so excited to have as part of the, you know, the overall retained because while some of our products have some of the effects of fatty acids in them, there's not a huge amount. So this is a really great booster to arang. Wow, I can't wait. Okay, well, I know what I'm getting next. So let me tell you, this has been the most chaotic time unprecedented. We're in so many ways. I mean, if somebody had told me two months ago that I wasn't allowed out of the house, period. And then when I was allowed, I'd have to wear a mask and gloves. I mean, we would be laughing at them. How are you maintaining wellness? And what is that practice? Like for you and your team? How's it going over? And for those who can't tell? Carla is in Australia, so I think it's like seven third well now probably eight o'clock in the morning there. So thank you for caring

24:55
but how

24:57
how are you guys doing? How are you maintaining

25:00
wellness for your team and yourself? Yeah, that's a great question. So I think it's saying, Yeah, I mean, it seems such a discombobulating time because we've transitioned off staff we've had 34 people who are full time to be sick in Australia and so we you know, a while back now we transition over a couple months now transitions everybody to work from home. And so to me, I've been incredibly focused on their well being and making sure that you know, some people eat by themselves and so how do we you know, self isolate without sitting isolated. So I think, you know, connection is so important for constantly connecting on like your phone or zoom. I think the visual connection is really important as well.

25:44
We baselitz allottees twice a week.

25:48
Yeah, we do it. Expert class. We've asked me who used to teach us in person and we have wellness day that the beauty fair. And so we're still maintaining that twice a week.

26:00
We have weekly catch up where, you know, with something might have a glass of wine as an evening on the Friday night or a cup of pain, and we just connect for like 30 to 45 minutes, and I'll talk about the weekend at Forbes First we'll catch up. So making sure that we've got the wellness, you know, infused into our weight, as well as the special tech staff and all the leaders in our business have really First of all, making sure the team is checking them twice a day, making sure that they are also delineating I think really important I think Elizabeth Gilbert is the author. She's the reason I said you know, make your bed and get dressed every morning. I haven't got to set up the retain immunity in any time between, you know, home time and work time because I get very easy to get up for sex computer, extends your work hours to just feel at home. So make sure that you're sitting up here and that I was in my pain at that time that you would have traveled to work, don't be working. It's so important to get out and

27:00
Make a beautiful healthy breakfast have a meet tool do submitted patience and breathing exercises go for a walk because here in Tennessee we're allowed to borrow when allowed to kind of sit in a path or a baby to the close to the moment but you know you can go for a walk and even if it's gone by dates and every morning I think you know I've got my walk longer plumbing I've been

27:24
going to be

27:27
the beautiful fish and the negatives on this day What do we notice so beneficial for you know overall well being mental health for the tivities I've gone embraced in the service area, get out to sunlight really important. That's something I said to my pain every single morning. Get out into somebody who can go for a walk because that stimulates the feel good hormone serotonin and and it helps to regulate your melatonin later. So the sleep cycle, so it's really important to get up, make your bed, get dressed, get out

28:00
So I'd be tempted to get to your computer and you know, sometimes I do do that. So I need to hit by only by, well, I You and I are simpatico, I do the same thing and I'm like, okay, but I just woke up and I went right to my computer. I know and I

28:17
don't see that but I find myself sometimes. You know, when you have fans in the car sometimes you have to do you don't get the computer in the morning. Yep. And I cry. I love what I do, I'm sure just like you like I it's not like I have to, or I'm like, Yes,

28:34
I get so excited. I'm exactly the same and so I love my work often doesn't feel like work. And no, you know, some tips sometimes said, Okay, I need to really take that break and find more that balance, but I love what I do. And so I think not even being pensive. It's just really being connected. I think being connected press though but also connected to the people around us and send me I'm really focused on it.

29:00
Hoping to build publish with the aim of doing some money with my family but also my team to be safe and being way connected and the other thing is you know Casnocha because it's way you to regulate you know your metabolic health and your immune health as well as your you know, you know your skin health as well so you know, making sure we're eating your whole foods is really important and I actually just writing a blog at the moment on healthy snacking because I I'm the same I'm a foodie so I often have my notes in the food and making sure that we're making healthy choices while we're at home with what we're eating. Also remember, sometimes the clipboard and it's really or sometimes we eat when we're thirsty and having some water is really important just to keep Hi I'm in hydration so important to notice this is a cognitive system to make sure you're in order to help prepare nutrients and oxygen to cells in your body recovery function metabolic function. Taking Clyde's red is really important and choosing the right foods to feed our gut. We

30:00
Know that

30:01
micro biome, which is basically a mini ecosystem of 10s of trillions of microorganisms that live in Africa that were host to that, you know, regulate for much of our our well being and regulate our gut health as well. And we know that for example, they love Whole Foods. I love the diet and fiber. And so eating lots of your leafy greens you save enough your legumes are really important. Because what they do, they cement the fiber and they create these really anti inflammatory compounds called short chain fatty acids. They're it's really important to mental health and your immune healthy metabolically healthy fat cells. We also know that plant pigments called poly phenol, the antioxidants found not only in fruits and vegetables, but in rose marine preferred in green tea also helps to boost beneficial bacteria in the gut to support microbial diversity. So by eating well with supporting our company supporting the way that we feel, the way that we move, the way, you know,

31:00
Everything and not just about diet itself that lifestyle, we know how important it is the stress or the compromise that that preclinical study so that interruptions the sleep cycle disrupt our body's ability to maintain a healthy microbiome. Now, you know again, hold on I have to plug for anybody who ever had an issue with sleep. I need to say that Kala Carla's sleep powder, so the beauty chef's sleep has changed my life. I and I will I will tell you I used to be someone who at times had to take Ambien, because of exactly what Carla's saying, if you don't sleep, you know, over extended period of time as your immune system is significantly compromised. And there I mean, we can go on and on about the importance of sleep. But for me as somebody who has a compromised immune system, that's really a big issue for me, and I noted I just couldn't fall asleep. It was such an issue and someone as a tree introduced me

32:00
To sleep that night, they gave me a little bit I took it that night, and I fell asleep within 15 minutes and now I can never not have any. I put in with my, my almond milk and I make like a warm latte with a little bit of cinnamon cinnamon on it. And I just like peaceful sleep. So I just need to put a plug. Because I think it's not as clear and we get that right back and you know, I think the other 90 I put

32:29
I put me so white and so in the next episode, we'll get into my site with coconut milk and you'll see so and submitted honey and it was delicious. So to be so glad we got to try. Oh boy. I gotta try that.

32:46
I think that's just what this is, though. You are helping people. Yes, it's good health, but you're showing people a different lifestyle to slow down to enjoy to be more mindful about what they're putting in their body.

33:00
And on their body just through the blogs through the books, you're really introducing them to be more comfortable, to take care of themselves in a very approachable, beautiful way. I think that's what beauty chef is really about. It's not just about a few products, again, very similar to why I started this for me beauty chef is about this beautiful, mindful lifestyle. And I really am so inspired by you, Carla, truly, truly. Oh, that's so lovely. Thank you so much. And I do

want to talk about slowing down and looking after so I think it's close. This is terrible what's happening and and very difficult for a lot of people and and it's affecting so many people, you know, people's health. And so that's not great, but I always be trying to focus on the positive 90 seeing 80 of the time, like wearing situations. So what can we do? That's going to be beneficial and I've got to say I'm so inspired at the moment.

34:00
By the human spirit and people's abilities come together and be really positive and inspire each other and connect when things are difficult. So yeah, I'm really inspired by that at the moment. And, and I think it is a time you know of itself kind of reflection. Self nourishment. Yeah. So, exploration, self care and self development. So I think it takes time to really, you know, do some listening because you were saying, like, men can keep playing and, and also it's important to set goals for ourselves and I think it's important to so to set realistic goals. Yes, it could. Really because oh, my God, I'm gonna I'm gonna make sure I can I do this no, you don't learn to become a yoga teacher in three days. And you know, it's not realistic and then it's disappointing. And, and you don't see it Oh, and you feel kind of chaotic. You've tried to do too many things you haven't, you know, keep them because the goal was unrealistic and it doesn't make you feel great. And I think

35:00
Even if it's tiny little changes that you make at any study so that if you can make it small, kind of more digestible goals, as far more capable and also you're far more likely to make a habit, it gets smaller and bite size. Yeah and so and also the other great thing about setting small goals and saving them is that we have a reward system in our brain and it releases dopamine when we attain the goal. So even going okay, today I'm going to learn have you know, I'm going to take make a diary soundtrack or today I'm going to always wanted to,

35:39
you know, do parties, I'm going to just do one online zoom, you know,

35:45
and, you know, when you would see something, you do something, you get to, you know, release of dopamine, which is a feel good hormones. But it's really great. You know, not only is a great ubiquity, typically the thing to do when a new focus but it also has to be a luxury

36:00
They actually help sell mental health. I love it. Oh my god, okay.

36:05
I honestly can talk for hours. I love First of all, I just, I love the wealth of knowledge that you bring to the table for people to be able to understand. And it's not intimidating. So thank you. Okay, so I know I try to make these these somewhat short the podcast but I have three questions that I love to ask the guests. Yeah, and it has to do with obviously the what I call the three P's. So I'm curious as what is your current passion?

36:38
I think my current passion is the human spirit and how we can be creative inspiring each other in the toughest of times. So to me, that is such a you know, I feel very passionate about that at the moment and and very inspired and everything I'm doing and also always next time so next time you

37:00
All at home and from the microbiome and the bacteria in our gut, the way that sounds learn to watch seeing trays when I go on my walks and it seems to birds and so, you know, going walking, you know, along the baits and looking at the waves and breathing in the air and interconnectedness of, you know, humans with nature, always so much passion and love. Okay, so what is giving you purpose?

37:28
So what's the purpose right now would be really inspiring resilience and positivity with my children and my team to be safe during these unprecedented times. So just really focusing on how we can all dictate to others and inspire each other and be helpful and make sure that people are okay, that's innovative, very important. And also giving back to asking your seat to babysit. We've inspiring content and education

38:00
And how, you know, they can really engage in self care at the moment. And of course, you know, still working on my product

38:07
that I'm so passionate about to really, you know, help support people in it their health and well being. And I guess probably also really connecting with family and friends and finding interesting new innovative ways to connect for example

38:23
I'm trying to do for my beautiful paints doing no lights, no lycra in Australia, that's a down at the bottom that beginning where I live there has a dance night, and it's safe to say people who love dancing but it's quite shy. They say Kendall the lights out and septime music and people just dance in the back and so it doesn't matter. Like they can just enjoy and you're dancing is a great way to get exercise and all those main levels. So be really the one dancing in the dark. I don't dance well. So well so I need to go to Bandai. Alright everybody, you heard this or you can come in, join on the line.

39:00
My life for dance class so I basically I've been making Spotify live music, some tests about music and for my pain for like wellness students at home and my next no like, Okay guys, I'm going to do a dance, dance Spotify fitness, I love and share it with me. Yeah, I will tell you I'll say I've sent him a link to our own stuff I'm saying I love FX racket and and then what we will do is we'll all kind of the same, but we'll turn out the cameras off. So you know, you don't want to proceed dancing. And with all that together and in my new time. Oh my gosh. Okay. And then my final question is, what are you currently practicing in order to be more present on a regular basis? Yeah, that's a great question. So I think for me being walking, I'm a big Walker. And I'm so thankful without were allowed to you know, be

40:00
Time is pregnant Can I really understand and is trying to set mykos and protect our community, but I'm very thankful that we get to go outside and walk around. And, you know, we're not completely confined to our houses and, and you know, Australia where I live is going on dates Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful baby. And you know, we've got lovely tree landscape and the path that I love to go to, it's about, you know, 10 minutes away from where I live. And so walking for me is like a filing system for my brain. It helps me solve problems that I think walking is amazing for everybody. It really helps you as well not to slow down. And I'm not actually going for a very light job as well. Sometimes I just want that kind of patio. But again, we you know, this is a time to slow down and actually walking helps you to walk out. Think through your problems. It's very meditative. It boosts cognitive function. It's a great exercise. It helps you get out in the sun and listen to nights and I think sound therapy is

41:00
Interesting and, you know, often I don't listen to music when I walk, because I think it's actually important to me, to me, it's about listening to my own kind of thoughts and processing them and listening to sounds of nature and really connecting with nature. So, and also, my girlfriend, just divine and she's such a mindful person. She was poking the other day and she said, You know, I think it's really important to ask yourself, What am I focused on right now? And so throughout the day, I just find myself and what am I, where's my attention focus right now and just doing that too, so stick around so in any negativity and maybe it's really important to feel emotions, even if they're negative, acknowledge them and feel them and relate to them but also try to get going Actually, I don't want to be focusing on that I need to be focusing on the most productive and positive Oh car so that is so dead on. I just before I called you I recorded my mindful Monday and today's more

42:00
Monday is where your thoughts and attention goes, your energy flows. And it's so important. It's to acknowledge that negativity or whatever chatter is going on, but then, okay, move on.

42:16
That's it. And I do think it's really important because when people are, at the moment, doing so many different things, I think it is really important not to feel like I should be positive I should be this. Like, yeah, it's understandable that you're feeling lonely, frustrated, you know, all of those things. I think it's very important that people connect around how to see anything and relate to and I think that you know, something is also really helpful and it has also scientifically been proven to help your overall health if keeping a gratitude journal. So I have been doing it I was actively thinking about it yesterday how I really must start doing it again because it has saved so into improved sleep, reduce stress, muscle tension, and

43:00
improve overall optimism, life satisfaction. So I think writing down three things every morning that was grateful for is also a really beautiful way to start the day and be really mindful. And you know, and also, I think breathing exercise in a meditative scenario, really important know that meditation can affect your microbiome, they're really, really positive way. And that just taking a moment during the day going, you know, I'm just going to sit with myself and really slow my breath and not, you know, just think about my breath, and it's just amazing, even to five minutes or 10 minutes throughout the day. It really recalibrates the whole parasympathetic nervous system calms you down, and makes you just feel more positive afterwards. I agree.
