Cyber attacks are happening more frequently than ever before. Ransomware attacks have increased by 100% since 2018. One reason for this is that for the perpetrators, it has been extremely successful. For the hackers, it is, on average, a $25 million a year business.

50% of 582 cybersecurity professionals do not believe their organization is properly protected from these malicious attacks. 

More often than not, the ransom is paid, albeit at a negotiated lower rate. But for the most part, criminals find it profitable and with low risk. Just as this description was being written, Lakewood Community College was hit by a ransomware attack. Last year, organizations fell victim to ransomware every 14 seconds. It is estimated that will compress down to one attack every 11 seconds by 2021. Ransomware phishing attacks compromised half of the U.S. organizations last year.
