As always, I am excited to bring you this new episode. I am passionate about women in business and we are about to be schooled on how to protect our intellectual property.

Asia Marie Woods, Esq. is an attorney for entrepreneurs who encourages her clients to go big, never play small, and to make sure all of their legal ducks are in a row. She received her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law; and received her bachelor's degree from Georgia State University. Asia Marie Woods is passionate about educating entrepreneurs on owning their trademarks and leveraging their intellectual property to scale their businesses. She has also dedicated her legal career to providing pro-bono representation for low-income individuals seeking bankruptcy relief.

As a new entrepreneur, it's pretty overwhelming and very daunting when you're getting started. Especially when you're a solopreneur – you're doing everything.

Asia shares with us how she lost a six-figure investment deal because of missing just ONE step when she was starting one of her businesses. Squad, it is PAINFUL to watch what you have built be taken from you.

Therefore, it is important that you protect your blood, sweat, and tears from the beginning or take on the risk that someone out there in another state is going to come for you for using their trademark.

In this episode we talk about:

  • What is a Trademark?
  • What is Copyright?
  • Intellectual property as assets.
  • Contracts as protection policies for employers.

My take-outs:

  • Having your business house in order.
  • Every client is not for you. And it's really okay.
