Mercy Me's Powerful Rendition of "Nothing But the Blood"

DannyMac Season 1 Episode 1311

Music has a way of reaching our souls like nothing else, and today we're diving into Mercy Me's powerful new rendition of "Nothing but the Blood of Jesus" from their recently released Cabin Sessions. The veteran Christian band recorded this timeless hymn in their newly purchased log cabin outside Nashville—a sacred space they've dedicated to prayer, study, and creating music that speaks to the heart of faith.
What makes this recording particularly special is Mercy Me's inclusion of two often-omitted verses from the original hymn that speak to overcoming life's challenges and reaching our eternal home through Christ's sacrifice. These forgotten lyrics add deeper dimensions to an already profound song. Whether you're familiar with this hymn or hearing it for the first time, their cabin session performance breathes new life into these sacred words, creating five minutes of music that will center your Monday and remind you of the foundation of Christian faith. Listen now, and let their harmonies wash over you like the very grace they're singing about.

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. Good morning everybody, Welcome to Monday, and today I have a song for you that Mercy Me just released within this last week. Now it's not a new song, but it's their version of the song Nothing but the Blood.

Speaker 1:

Bart Millard and the rest of Mercy Me have been around for quite a while now, and although they may have gotten a little bit older and their looks may have changed, the power of the music and their message has only gotten stronger over the years. The band had just purchased a log cabin just outside of Nashville where they were able to go and meet and pray and read and study and write music together, and that place has become very important to them, and just recently they released what they called the Cabin Sessions. One of those songs was Nothing but the Blood. When we think about Jesus shedding his blood on that cross, it can make us feel uncomfortable, and it probably should. Here was an innocent man, guilty of absolutely nothing wrong, who allowed himself to go to that cross to die in the most horrible of fashion, but he did it for all of us. He did it so that you and I would not have to be punished for our sin, for our separation from God, for the things that we do wrong and the ways that we fall short. He did it because of his love for us, so that we might be able to have this relationship with God and to be able to reside with him for eternity. Relationship with God and to be able to reside with him for eternity. That's why Jesus did it. It was all based upon his love for us, his willingness to give of himself completely and fully so that you and I could have life. And today's song is just a reminder of some of the things that were accomplished because of what Christ did on that cross.

Speaker 1:

Hebrews 9.22 says Under the law, almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Over in Ephesians, chapter 1 and verse 7,. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to In Matthew 26,. Jesus was having the Last Supper with the disciples and he broke the bread and gave them the cup and he said this Christ's blood paid the price for our sin. He did it for us, and the hymn takes those concepts, wraps them up and presents them so that we can speak them clearly and thank God for what he's done. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that washes white as snow. No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Speaker 1:

I came across two verses from the original version of Nothing but the Blood that are often excluded from our hymnals. They go like this Now, by this I'll overcome. Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Now, by this I'll reach my home. Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Glory, glory, this I sing. Nothing but the blood of Jesus. All my praise for this. I bring. Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
