Speaker 1:

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day, so grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax and let me help you start your day right. Okay, this may seem like a bit of an odd question for you this morning, but when was the last time you sat down and you examined what you believe is your abilities and your potential? That is still within you. Most of us rarely even think about that. Particularly as we get older, we start thinking about our routine, just where we need to go and what we need to do today, but we don't realize how much God has placed within us and how much potential there is really deep inside of us. One of the things that I've come across, that I'm seeing in more and more studies, is just how incredible and intricate each one of us is. As God has created us, we are made up of trillions of cells in our body and inside each of those trillion cells there are 3 billion DNA base pairs. Can you imagine that, apparently, if you took your DNA and wrapped it around the world from one person, it would go around the world 30 times. That's the length of the DNA with inside each of our bodies. It's absolutely amazing the way we are created and, along with that, every second, our body is producing 25 million new cells that all have the same DNA in them. Again, that means that every 15 seconds we've produced more cells than there are people in the United States. It's absolutely amazing the way God has made us.

Speaker 1:

Many of the books and studies I've read through recently have talked about human potential, about what we are capable of doing and capable of becoming. The general consensus from many of those studies tells us that the majority of individuals only use 10 to 30 percent of their potential. I'm not talking about brain power. It used to be said we only use 10% of our brains and that's been disproven many, many times. Our brain is far more active than just 10% of it, so that really is not even in the equation here. But when it comes to our human potential, our ability to do and accomplish, we're only at 10 to 30% of that level of what we could and should be, and there are a number of studies that have now shown this. I've got thinking about that in terms of us as our walk with God. What does it mean for us to only be using about 30% of our potential? That means that there's 70% more that we could be doing. That would impact our families, that would impact our God, that would impact our nation.

Speaker 1:

We have so many opportunities for what we can do and what we should do. Ephesians, chapter 5, verses 15 and 16, it tells us to be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise and make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. I wanted to share with you three concepts this morning, morning that if you grasp these and begin to use them, they will help you to use more of the potential that is within you. That is potential to grow you, to help your families, to serve your God and to serve church.

Speaker 1:

Here are three things. Real quick Step. Number one is a phrase that my wife often used with our kids when they were growing up. Number one is figure it out.

Speaker 1:

We need to stop questioning ourselves and asking can I? And need to look at what is there and say how can I? We need our answers to be yes. Someone comes to you and gives you an opportunity for a business or for a ministry, or for an opportunity to stretch yourself in a new way. Instead of coming up with all the reasons why you can't, our first response needs to move to how can I get that? I can do that. What do I need to do to get to the yes?

Speaker 1:

Number two is stop thinking there's only one way and realize there are many ways to do almost everything. There are lots of opportunities and answers for us, and each one of them just requires a step for us to say yes. And then now I need to find a way to do this, and along that way you will work out bits and pieces and solve it. But get to the answer. Don't get bogged down in the process. Get to the answer and realize that there's more than one way to get there. And number three really is the key to it all.

Speaker 1:

If you have goals and accomplishments that you want to see in your life and you've got them written down or you've thought about them a number of times throughout your life, stop putting those things off and thinking that someday I will get to that, someday I will take this course, someday I will go and see my kids, someday I will have my own business. Someday my schedule will be such that I can spend a half hour with God every morning. Someday, someday, let's move beyond the someday and recognize that we need to do important things every day. I may not be able to teach a course every day, but I can be learning and growing in that course every day. I may not be able to spend an hour with God in prayer every morning, but I can spend time with God in prayer every morning.

Speaker 1:

Don't throw out the small steps towards your goal and start doing the important things every day, and always remember that you have been created in the image of God himself. You are the most intricate, precise, incredibly powerful thing that God has ever created. Don't ever doubt what he did when he made you, because he made you the perfect. You have a great day, my friends. We will talk again tomorrow. Thank you for listening today and I invite you to join me Monday to Friday, right here on, starting Right with Danny Mac.
