Starting Right

I Thank God

DannyMac Season 1 Episode 1871

Today is Thanksgiving Day, here in Canada so I bring you this very fitting song for our Music Monday.  "I Thank God" has been recorded by many artists since its 2021 release by Maverick City Music but this is my favourite version.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right. Good morning everybody. Welcome to Monday and another Music Monday episode here on Starting Right. As I've spent some time over the last while trying to pick out some music for our Monday episodes, I realized that there are some very powerful songs that I haven't talked about yet. Just a couple weeks ago, I shared with you my theme song for the year, which is Waymaker. I listen to it every day. It reminds me of God's goodness. Well, today's song is one that comes very close to that. It was written and released a while ago by Maverick City Music called I Thank God. This song has a powerful message of hope, of redemption, and of gratitude. It starts with a very vivid portrayal of a weary soul wandering, feeling overwhelmed in search for meaning and purpose. And they realize that no matter how much they try or how much they hope to find a way of release from their problems, there's actually no place to hide. The lyrics capture that essence of our human struggles, the battles we face, and the exhaustion that comes with trying to navigate our lives on our own. The turning point in the song comes when the person encounters a man he didn't know. That man we know is Jesus. This mysterious encounter becomes a very pivotal moment, representing the divine intervention that often takes place in the lives of believers. God will meet us where we are, and even in our darkest moments, we are not alone. Jesus will meet us, and he will accept us. And then the heart of the song lies in the chorus. I love the chorus, where the transformational power of God's grace is beautifully expressed. It gives us the imagery of being picked up, turned around, and having our feet placed on solid ground. It paints this beautiful picture of redemption, of liberation, and a new beginning. God does meet us wherever we are, and in whatever we're going through, but he loves us too much to just leave us there. The song then declares a thanks to the Master and Savior for healing their hearts and changing their identity. The second verse is all about the choice that we make to believe. The getting rid of our doubts and burdens and bitterness is likened to ashes in the wind. The lyrics say farewell to those old companions of burden and bitterness, and it symbolizes this break that we have from the chains that have held us in the past. I love the portion of the song where it talks about this lifelong journey of gratitude. There's the wayward son, once lost, has found his way back home. And in this portion it explores the ongoing narrative of a transformed life and the commitment to sing of the Savior's saving grace until we get to walk on those streets of gold. But the real impact of the song is truly back in the chorus. It is wonderful and powerful. Through the chorus we acknowledge that we have been forever changed. We're no longer the same. And the gratitude expressed is not just for the moment, but it extends to a lifelong acknowledgement and thanks to God for his goodness and his grace. I thank God by Maverick City Music. It's more than just a song, it's it's a testimony. It talks about our Christian journey of encountering the unknown and experiencing redemption and living a life forever change by the grace of God. Maverick City Music wrote this song and originally performed it, but today's version is from House Fires and Jaywalker's Worship. I think you'll enjoy it. It's just a little bit different than Maverick City, but still very, very powerful. I hope you have a wonderful day, my friends. We will talk tomorrow, and here's a clip of I Thank God.
