When life backs you into a corner, prayer can start to feel like the hardest thing to keep doing. The tears run dry, the breakthrough doesn’t come, and you catch yourself thinking, Why should I even keep believing? Today’s Music Monday on Starting Right with Danny Mack meets that moment head-on with Matthew West’s powerful song “Don’t Stop Praying” and a short, practical reminder of what persistent prayer is really for.
We walk through lyrics that ask the questions many of us are afraid to say out loud: What’s your impossible? What feels hopeless? What has you barely hanging on? Then we turn to Scripture for clarity and comfort. The Bible never guarantees instant answers, even when we’re praying for good things. But it does call us to stay connected. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to never stop praying, and that isn’t a command to perform, it’s an invitation to remain in relationship with Jesus when timing doesn’t make sense.
We also talk about the difference between treating prayer like a transaction and living it as a relationship. Yes, God tells us to bring our needs. Matthew 7:7-8 says to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. At the same time, God’s goal is deeper than quick fixes. He wants our trust, our attention, and our willingness to listen as much as we speak. If you’re carrying sickness, family stress, financial pressure, or work anxiety, this is a five-minute reset toward hope and steady faith.

Music Monday And The Song Pick
SPEAKER_00morning everyone and welcome to Music Monday, where today we're going to take a look at a song from Matthew West called Don't Stop Praying. I really like this song because it talks about some of the very real emotions and questions that we go through when we're struggling and we're praying and we're believing God for something, and we've not seen the answer come. Here,
Lyrics That Name Our Doubts
SPEAKER_00I I want to share the opening lyrics of the song with you. They go like this. What's your impossible? Your I need a miracle? What's got you barely hanging on by a single thread? What looks so hopeless now? What weighs down your heart with doubt? You beg for a breakthrough but no sign of a breakthrough yet. When you've cried and you've cried till your tears run dry, the answer won't come and you don't know why. And you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time. Does any of that sound familiar to you? I know that most of us have been in that same place and have asked those same questions. Where are you, God? I'm still dealing with the sickness. My child is still not well. I'm still going through all of those problems with my finances and at work, and I've been praying and praying and believing, and I've not seen anything happen. Why should I even keep on believing and keep on praying?
What The Bible Says About Persistence
SPEAKER_00The Bible talks extensively about prayer, but let's just take a few minutes and look at a couple verses this morning about it. First of all, here's something that it doesn't tell us. God's word never tells us that we will receive instantaneous or even quick answers to our prayers. Sometimes God works quickly, other times, even when our prayers are in line with God's will, it can take time for them to be answered. But in First Thessalonians 5.17, Paul said, never stop praying. You see, we get confused sometimes. We think that prayer is to get God to do things for us, to meet needs for us, to work in our lives, and it is about all of those things. But it's more fundamental than that. Prayer is about building a relationship with Jesus Christ. It's us talking to Him, but real prayer also involves us listening to what He has to say. God wants to work in us and God wants to do things for us, and He wants to answer our prayers, but more than that, He wants to have a relationship with us. One where we're just not going to Him for quick answers and quick deliverance or quick supply or quick healings. That's not about what the relationship with Jesus Christ should be about. Our relationship with God should not be about the quick answers. It's about building a relationship with him so that we can live with him for eternity. That's what the relationship is for. Now, the answers to prayer are the benefits that come with the relationship. So we must build that relationship with him to be able to receive the benefits of our prayer. I'm not saying that we cannot or should not take our request to God. We should absolutely do that. In Matthew chapter 7, verses 7 and 8, it says, Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking and you will find. Keep on knocking and the door will be open to you. For every one who asks receives, and everyone who seeks finds. And to everyone who knocks the door will be opened. God wants to and will answer our prayers. But he rarely does it in the time frame that we impose upon him.
Don’t Stop Praying, Don’t Stop Believing
SPEAKER_00Let's go back and look at some more of the lyrics from today's song. Don't stop praying. The Alpha and Omega knows how your story ends. When you've cried and you've cried till your tears run dry, the answer won't come and you don't know why, and you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time. Do it one more time and don't stop praying. Don't stop calling on Jesus' name. Keep on pounding on heaven's door, and let your knees wear out the floor. Don't stop believing. This is a wonderful and powerful song written and performed by Matthew West.
