Starting Right
A Five Minute Reset With Psalm 118
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Some mornings feel like a grind before your feet even hit the floor and that’s exactly why we start with one steady line of truth: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). We’re taking five minutes to reset your perspective, not by ignoring what’s hard, but by remembering what’s real about God’s goodness, God’s love, and God’s mercy that shows up new every morning.
We talk honestly about how easy it is to find reasons to be sad, angry, frustrated, or hopeless, and why the Bible still calls us to choose thankfulness, gladness, and joy. We lean into worship as a practical tool for your morning routine and highlight Cody Carnes’ song “Be Glad,” a scripture-soaked reminder to give thanks because God is good and his love endures forever (Psalm 107:1). If you’ve ever thought, “I know God loves me, I just don’t feel it today,” we speak directly to that gap between faith and feelings.

Welcome And Daily Rhythm
SPEAKER_00Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mack. I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day. So grab your cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and let me help you start your day right.
Psalm 118 Sets The Tone
SPEAKER_00This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. I can't think of a better way to start our brand new week than to be reminded of what those words from Psalm 118 and verse 24 tell us. God has given us so many wonderful and beautiful things, and sometimes we do need to be reminded of all of those good things God has done for us, and to get excited about that goodness, and to respond to God's goodness to us. He loves us beyond anything we can ask or imagine. So today let us rejoice and be glad in what God has done and is doing for us.
Why The Song Be Glad
SPEAKER_00That leads us right into our song this week by Cody Carnes called Be Glad, which is all about giving thanks to God, honoring Him for what He's done, getting excited for the good things that He's poured into our lives, and remembering His faithfulness to us again and again and again. It reminds us to give praise the Lord. Beside Him there is no other. Give thanks to the Lord. His love endures forever. He brought us from mourning to dancing, from glory to glory. This is the day the Lord has made. So what are we waiting for? Come on, praise the Lord.
Finding Joy When It’s Hard
SPEAKER_00Now I know that all of us have problems and challenges in our lives, and there can be a lot of reasons to choose anything other than being glad. It is easy to find a reason to be sad or angry or frustrated or hopeless. But the Bible tells us that we have a reason to be glad today, and it's all about Jesus, what he's done for us. He has saved us, he has redeemed us, and we are told that his mercies are brand new each and every morning. So what should we do each and every day? Choose thankfulness, gladness, and joy, and decide today that you're going to worship God and declare his goodness over every part of your life and every part of your family. Cody was interviewed about the song, and he said, I love this song. It's straight from scripture the whole way through. I pray it helps find the reasons to be glad when it can be so easy to find a reason to be sad, mad, frustrated, or anything else. And then he reminds us of some of the other scriptures that are so important. Psalm 107 verse one Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his love endures forever. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that as well. We may have felt and known that God loved us, but sometimes today you may not feel God's love. That doesn't mean that he doesn't love you. His love is never failing, it is never ending, and he loves you right now this morning, right where you
Mark 5 Freedom And Mercy
SPEAKER_00are. In Mark chapter five, we read the story of Jesus arriving at the other side of the lake when a man who had been living in the tombs came out to him. This man was possessed by many, many demons. Jesus spoke to the man and to the demons, casting them out of the man into two thousand pigs who ran down the hillside and drowned themselves in the lake. The man was now free, no longer tortured by these demons, but fully clothed, and it was sitting at Jesus' feet, learning what Jesus had to say. As Jesus was about to leave, the man wanted to go with Jesus. But in verse 19, Jesus said, No, go home to your family and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.
Tell Your Family What God Did
SPEAKER_00You see, when God is good to us, we not only receive that goodness for ourselves, but we are to tell others about how good God is, and God is good and can be good to them and for them and in them as well. Let's share this great news about the goodness of God so that more and more people can know and experience his love in their lives. There are so many hurting people around us right now, and they need God's love more than anything else, and we can be part of that instrument to share it with them when we get excited about the goodness of God working inside of us.
