Jonathan
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Jonathan doesn’t wait for the perfect setup, the bigger army, or the safer moment. He moves with faith, climbs into conflict with his armor bearer, and says what so many of us forget: God can save by many or by few. That one choice opens a conversation about courage, obedience, and what it looks like to trust God when the people “in charge” are sitting under a tree.
Then we shift to one of the most powerful friendship stories in the Bible: Jonathan and David. We talk through 1 Samuel 18 and the covenant that forms when their souls are knit together, plus the wild moment Jonathan hands over royal garments and weapons. We connect the dots to spiritual purpose, humility, and why real friendship doesn’t compete with God’s plan, it protects it. We also address the modern push to mislabel their bond, and why the text and the culture point to covenant loyalty, not romance.
From Saul’s jealousy to Jonathan’s sacrifice, we keep bringing it back home: who is your Jonathan, who is your Saul, and who are you called to cover? We challenge isolation, “no contact” culture, and the temptation to dodge accountability, and we talk about the way of escape God provides through His Word, His warnings, and His people. If you’re hungry for a Bible study podcast on Christian community, biblical friendship, and faith that actually moves, press play, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review if this encouraged you.

Welcome And Bible Excitement
SPEAKER_01I just had a long way, all we know a couple of ways to fix my voice my days, then I'm talking in the second days, I just had a long way. First I'm gonna hit my days. Then I'm talking in the Sunday days.
SPEAKER_03What's up, everybody, and welcome back to your favorite podcast, something like Sunday school. I am purpose Williams. And you know, I'm always excited, always very excited to be studying the word of God, to be in the word of God, to be conversing about it. But I'm excited for several reasons. Y'all may not have known this, but I was missing the Bible, which uh led me to buy another study Bible. But I found my my purple Bible before the Lord last night. And I'm excited about that. I know that's probably some frivolous offending to some of y'all, but I was excited about that because I found my Bible. Because I had I had notes and things in this Bible from my my Bible that's that's full of notes. So I was trying to transfer it over because my other Bible is falling apart. So I'm excited today. I'm excited to have my brother and my sister with me. He's not been here for a while. Where have you been, brother Myron?
SPEAKER_00Before the face of God.
SPEAKER_03He better be at the feet of Jesus. Amen. Casting your cares upon him.
SPEAKER_00For he cares.
SPEAKER_03Praise God. Praise God for the word of the living God. I have with me my sister, Ari.
SPEAKER_04Hey, good people.
SPEAKER_03Do you have a scripture on your heart today?
SPEAKER_04Uh, not at the moment.
SPEAKER_03Not at the moment. There's so many scriptures that be so delicious. Yeah, they just be rumbling around to somebody asks you about it for a real. But y'all, y'all know
Why Jonathan Matters In Scripture
SPEAKER_03how it goes. Today we are going to be discussing and looking into the life of Jonathan, who um who is a very, very interesting person. He is the son of Saul, the first earthly king of the children of Israel. They was begging for a king that they could look at and see. And the Lord um grants them permission to get one. He was anointed by Samuel to be the first earthly king. He's tall, taller than everybody. He's good looking. So we've we come across his son, Jonathan. Uh Jonathan plays a very important role uh in the word of God. And I started seeing him, Aaron and I were talking about this uh one day at church, um, trying to see what he was a type and shadow of. And um the more we'll we'll get because I'm I'm leaping ahead of myself now. We'll get there. Uh we are reading today out of 1 Samuel, which is the ninth book of the Bible in the Old Testament, right at the roof, who sets us up anyway to uh get into the life of David. And you'll see why we mentioned David's name if you don't know. Uh if you do know, this is just a reintroduction to something that's very delicious, very profound. And uh I think we usually just take one angle from Jonathan. But as we were studying, we started seeing a lot of things that were beautiful. Of course, because the word is inexhaustible. You heard me say that before. It never never runs out, never runs dry. It's delicious, calorie-free. Just taste and see that the word is good. Uh we're gonna be reading it. I know I love the KJV. Um, what's your what's your favorite version?
SPEAKER_00Uh, I would go with the message Bible.
SPEAKER_03You like the message? I like the message. Okay. What's your what's your favorite version, Eric?
SPEAKER_04I don't really have a favorite. It's just it depends on how I'm understanding. But it's usually gonna be KJV and NLT and Message and MC. So just kind of a mix.
SPEAKER_03I like KJV, it's definitely my favorite. I'm starting to to get with um Amplified Classic. Yeah. And uh um, I was reading in NLT too. It was a little a little tasty in it. I like NLT, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But uh we'll be reading out of KJV. We're gonna start. We first come across Jonathan in 1 Samuel, the 14th chapter. And uh as I was looking at this, I was like, yo, this, this is uh, is it almost has a parallel feel to somebody else. So we're gonna see. We're gonna see what y'all think about it. Y'all want me to read, or one of y'all want to read?
SPEAKER_04Go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
Jonathan Attacks With Unshaken Faith
SPEAKER_031 Samuel, 14th chapter, first verse. Now it came to pass upon a day that Jonathan, the son of Saul, said unto the young man that bare his armor, come, let us go over to the Philistine's garrison that is on the other side. But he told not his father. Right away we see Jonathan at war. He's in the middle of war, and he has uh an armor bearer with him, and he's keeping something from his father, Saul. Verse 2, and Saul tarried in the othermost part of the of Gilbea under a pomegranate tree, which is in Megrin, and the people that were with him were about 600 men. Immediately we see two different people, even though this is his son. Saul is chilling under the tree.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_03While Jonathan is out, he's out at the wall in the middle of it, sound like, and it seems like he's about to about to do something. Well, we got Saul chilling, and he got 600 people with him. He's under the tree, surely. All them people can't get under the tree with him and chill, but he's under the tree. Yeah. Verse 3 and Ahiah, the son of Ahitap, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phineas, the son of Eli, and the Lord's priest in Shadow, wearing an ephi. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone. So why you don't know where your son is, first of all? Right. Why did you not realize he wasn't in the camp with y'all? Surely he's important to you, right? And between the passages by which Jonathan sought to go over into the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side and the sharp rock on the other side. And the name of the one was Bozes, and the name of the other one Sanah. The forefront of was one situate northward, over against Mishmash, and the other one southward against Gaba. And Jon then said to the young man that bare his armor, come, let us go over into the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that what? That the Lord will work for us. For there's no restraint to the Lord to save by many. Or by who? Few, my Lord. I love that. Listen to this man. The confidence. Yeah. Listen to him. And I don't believe he's asking a question or making an assumption, like maybe or maybe not. When he's like, it may be that the Lord, he believes that the Lord can do. Yeah, he's fully convinced. He's fully convinced. Persuaded.
SPEAKER_04The Lord will do it either way. Either way.
SPEAKER_03By many or by what? Few. By few. There's some strong faith right there. By many or by few. And his armor bearer is saying unto him, do all that is in thy heart. Turn thee. Behold, I am with thee according to thy heart. That's interesting too to me.
SPEAKER_04Because of his character, he had somebody who supported him and trusted him. Absolutely. He was a friend and had a friend.
SPEAKER_03He was a friend and had a friend. He was a friend and had a friend. It's gonna be real delicious, yeah. Yeah. He told them, man, I got your back. Whatever you decide to do.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it's just the two of them, and we're gonna begin Philistines. These are the same Philistines that housed Goliath. These the same ones.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Even Jonathan's speech so far, um, you can tell that he had a connection with God. Yes. You can tell that he was, they didn't, they didn't have Holy Spirit living within them at that point yet. But you can tell it was something mighty about them, something mighty in them.
SPEAKER_03That they communed with God and they still had relationships with him, like you said. Like, and just the stark difference is so um astounding to me. So uh I think iron against the strong uh strong word or the wrong word, but it's just interesting. The difference between him and his dad. Yeah. Then Jonathan said, what? We on verse 8. Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we shall discover ourselves unto them. If they saw thus unto us, tarry until we come to you. Then we will stand still in our place and will not go up until then. But if they say thus, come upon us, then we will go. For what? For the Lord have delivered them into our hand. They already won the battle right here. Oh my God. They already won it, and this shall be a sign unto us. And both of them discovered themselves into the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, Behold the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan, his armor bearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armor bearer, Come up after me, for the Lord have delivered them into the hand of Israel. And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armor bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer did what? Slew after him. This is two people. And the first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made was about 20 men within, as it were, a half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

Jonathan Sounds Like David
SPEAKER_03These two men have taken out 20 men. It sounds like a movie, like martial arts or something like. Who else you think he sounds like, Mary?
SPEAKER_00Who I think Jonathan sounds like in this moment? Yeah. That's the same question. I got the same thought when you asked her about the scripture. There's so many different ones that come to mind. Let's see. I'm trying to think who the words that said this this is the confidence we have in you.
SPEAKER_03You want me to tell you who I think he reminds me of? Who you think? He sounds a lot like David. Yeah. Oh. He sounds a lot like David when he when he ran up on uh Goliath. Yeah, you're right. You're right. He sounds a lot like David. So we can already see a connection and they haven't even met each other yet. Right. Isn't that something?
SPEAKER_04Just not fearful.
SPEAKER_03Not fearful.
SPEAKER_04And really already representing whether two or three are gathered together or not.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I be in the midst.
SPEAKER_03I be in the midst. So when David comes up on Goliath, he's like, you coming to me with a spear and a sword, but I'm coming to you in the name of the Lord. Who's gonna help the armies of Israel? Yeah. They are not, they are not some scary people. They are boastful in the Lord and champions in the Lord.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that could be uh a reason why Jonathan is taken with David.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Could be a reason why. They really was the same person in those moments.
SPEAKER_04I was just thinking they see themselves and one another.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. All right, this we're gonna skip on over. You you should definitely go ahead and read the rest of that chapter. Uh all the way up. This whole, I mean, of course, the whole book. But read the rest of that chapter. We're gonna skip on over to 1 Samuel, the 18th chapter, where Jonathan uh hears David talking to his dad, and we're gonna see, we're gonna see what happens
Covenant Love And Royal Surrender
SPEAKER_03in that moment. You wanna read for us, Brother Marian?
SPEAKER_001 Samuel chapter 18. And it came to pass when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David. And Jonathan loved him as his own soul, and Saul took him that day and would let him go no more to his father's home. When Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul, and Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, and his garment, even his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle, and David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely, and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servant. And it came to pass as they came when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistines, that the women came out of the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with timbreds, with joy, and with instruments of music.
SPEAKER_03Let's go back. Let's go back to 18 and 1, where it says Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And that they were knit at the soul together. It is it's like they were kindred spirits. Right. And they recognized that early on. But what I found fascinating about it was it kept saying how much Jonathan loved David. Not saying that David didn't love Jonathan because he did.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But we see we see that he says that, and then we see his love for him in action immediately.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_03Immediately.
SPEAKER_00Then as I was reading, when they say um Saul took him in and he couldn't go to his father's house anymore, I saw the spirit of adoption. I was like, wow, come on, types and shit. Oh yeah. Man.
SPEAKER_04But I think it um one thing that does take me is that Jonathan loved David. So Jonathan was raised basically in royalty. So he has the king as his father, he has his mother, the queen, he has his sisters, he has brothers, he has all these men around him, but the Bible never talks about his love for them. It talks about his love for David. So once he, even though, like, you know, a lot of times you'll have people around you, but they're your people, but they're not your people. And then when you find that friend who gets you, it's a godly connection. It's like um, it's just a different connection. It's almost indescribable. And then that's the same way that we kind of um, you know, like we represent Jesus. Like, even though we have people around us and people who get us, don't nobody get us like Jesus. And so it's uh it's it's indescribable.
SPEAKER_03It is very indescribable, and it's beautiful to come across. And uh, I like that point that you made about him growing up in royalty, and and which is very important to the to the account. Him growing up in royalty, and then of course, if his father is the king, who's gonna be the next king?
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_03Right. It should be Jonathan, right? If we're going according to he's supposed to be Jordan Jonathan, going uh going according to um, you know, royalty, going according to the monarchy and succession and all these things like this. Um but that that doesn't take place. It doesn't take place, and we see right away that Jonathan has he has accepted that that's not gonna be.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He took off his what? He made a covenant with him and stripped himself of the robe that was upon him.
SPEAKER_00And then I think um a position of being a prince is like it's kind of hard to differentiate who's with you and who's for you. Oh, yeah. Because being royalty, like, they have to serve you. So it's like you're not sure who's really with you and who's just there because you go against the prince, you you got to face the wrath of the king.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. Yeah, but he he takes off his robe, he takes off everything.
SPEAKER_04That shows him laying down his crown before God for what's right. Because it's always a right versus a wrong.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So again, I was talking to Therese earlier this week about um Ruth.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04And like what Ruth stood out to me, it's about choices. So we know the Orpah, she chose the old way, but Ruth was choosing God's way. So here you have Jonathan here laying down his crown for the truth and the righteousness of God. Because where if God says that this needs to stick and stand, then this is the best way for everybody.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Because look, we talked about in the last one uh with Joseph, uh, all the things, all the pieces that had to take place for Jesus to come out of the line of David to fulfill prophecy. Yeah. And it trickles all the way down to us being able to be in right standing, right relationship, adopted into the beloved, accepted into the beloved. Uh Jonathan plays a major part too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He plays a major part. He gets out of the way. Yeah. He gets on out of the way. And like you say, he stripped himself of the robe. This is a royal robe. This is not just any robe. Right. It's not a robe that he hangs in the club, it's just the front. These are royal garments that he's stripping himself of. Yeah. Then that belonged to him. By blood. Yeah, right. By blood.
SPEAKER_00But I think that just shows that his submission and his reverence to God and not himself. So it's like he didn't make the mistake that his father made even before his father made it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He hadn't even made the mistake yet.
SPEAKER_03He hadn't done it yet.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03He's he's he's definitely in relationship with God. He definitely references God's way and God's decisions. But he uh he takes out the robe, he gives him his garments, even his sword, and his bow and his girdle. This is not even just him laying down clothes, this is him giving his protection to him. Surely this sword and this girdle has been made specifically for him. For Jonathan. But he gives it to David. And David accepts it. That was that was um that was something else too, because when when Saul get tried to give him his armor and all those things, he didn't accept it because he he said I don't need this.
SPEAKER_04He said it was too heavy. It's too heavy.
SPEAKER_03He couldn't move in it. Couldn't do nothing. And didn't need it. He didn't need it. But we don't we don't see in scripture where he turns um turns away the things that were given to him by Jonathan. And it came to pass 6 when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistines that the women came out of the city of Israel singing and dancing to meet King Saul with tablets with joy and with instruments of music. And
Saul’s Jealousy And Murder Plots
SPEAKER_03the women, this is where starts getting on track. The women answered one another as they played and said, Saul have slain his thousands and David his ten thousands. They didn't put music to this.
SPEAKER_04If this ain't 300, gladiator, gladiator. Right, gladiator.
SPEAKER_03And Saul was very what? Raw. And the saying displeased him. And he said that they have ascribed unto David ten thousands. And to me, they have ascribed but thousands. And what can he have more but the kingdom? He like they already got his heart. He already got their heart. So what's left? My kingdom, my throne. And so did what? Ah David. And forward. So he went from liking the dude to not, you know, being paranoid about him, not trusting him.
SPEAKER_00Now you see him as a threat.
SPEAKER_03Now he sees him as a threat. So did you really like him? You like me because I helped y'all get rid of this dude. Yeah. And now, and I'm taking you from your daddy's house because I'm going to use you as my pun. Right. And I want to keep you on my side because you you victorious. But now, now you're getting in the way.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Who was that saying that song? Getting in the way of the feeling. Was that Jill Scott? It was. David was getting in Saul's way. And this is Saul, you know, a person who loves music. Yeah. You don't like it too tough now.
SPEAKER_04You just go to show that Saul was just amusing everybody. Yeah, he was fickle.
SPEAKER_00Just they sung the wrong song and I just messed up with it. He was fickle.
SPEAKER_04He couldn't hide this one.
SPEAKER_03And even, okay, let's go back. This is why you should read 14 also. In 1 Samuel 14, uh Saul, they um something happened. It's escaping me now. But he was ready to, he was ready to uh sacrifice Jonathan. He was ready to sacrifice his own son. And the people was like, no, you know, Jonathan is the one that's been victorious. His blood ain't gonna be spilled today. So Saul don't care. Who you remind me of? Somebody orange. Be that as it may. Be that as it may. Verse 12, and Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him. We found out why he really didn't really care for him. The Lord was with him. And it was what? Departed from Saul. He was departed from Saul.
SPEAKER_04I could it really was like misdirected anger and fear. He should have been mad at himself. He should have been mad because he turned away from the Lord and Samuel prophesied that the Lord had left him. So you should have just got yourself on track. We didn't do that then.
SPEAKER_00All he had to do was repent.
SPEAKER_04And he had to be sincere. Right. Be sincere, yeah.
SPEAKER_00He had to be sincere.
SPEAKER_04And stop making himself God, trying to make himself God and let God be God.
SPEAKER_03When we go back to it, the Lord already told him this was gonna happen. And they was just begging and fiending for uh for an earthly, uh earthly king.
SPEAKER_00And that came from looking at other nations. From looking at other nations. Like who y'all who who held held y'all captive.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Y'all, the thing, all the things that y'all could have took, y'all took all the bad things.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. They could have just been focusing on the Lord, and they wanted somebody to look at in the physical.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03And then, you know, in following human nature, you understand that. But that's we know that that's our that's not our original nature. Right. But in the falling human nature, you compare yourself to other people and other things. And the grass be looking mad green on the other side. And it don't be You don't know what kind of fertilizer. It don't be even real grass.
SPEAKER_00Is it real? It's usually you had something in your eye.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, something in your eye. You had something into your eye in your eye. But as we as you keep reading, down into 18, down into 19, down into 20, Saul really starts losing his mind against David, and he keeps plotting to kill him, keep trying to kill him. He throwing spears at him. He was trying to set him up all kinds of ways. He had devised a plan to uh give him his daughters to distract him. Yeah. So that he could kill him. Yeah, that was crazy. It was insane. I mean, why can't we be giving your daughters away? For his own agenda. They don't care about giving up them daughters. What was y'all doing?
SPEAKER_04Women with nothing.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that was their purpose back in the day. They like that's how they forged relationships. In that day, yes. They tell you, like, if you if you were a daughter. Culture, right? I know that.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes, go ahead, yeah. Yeah, that was how they they would they kind of were used like as ponds for like business country. Yeah. I need to make a treaty with them, so the best way to make a treaty is to become family.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You got a good army, my army and all that. Yeah. I think I think my son and your daughter would be amazing together.
SPEAKER_03I want she and she and she.
SPEAKER_04But really, they still do that.
SPEAKER_00Like they have all they still do arranged marriage. For sure. For sure.
SPEAKER_04Business one.
SPEAKER_00It is.
SPEAKER_03It is a business deal. But that made me think about um Saddam and Gamora. When the people was coming and they wanted to do it. Absolutely. Offer his virgin daughters.
SPEAKER_00Never known a man. I offered them to you.
SPEAKER_03To these ravenous people. These ravenous crowd.
SPEAKER_00No, we want him.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, baby. I haven't gotten a revelation of that yet. Offering your daughters.
SPEAKER_03Neither have I. Neither have I. The Lord's gonna reveal it.
SPEAKER_04I haven't thought it yet either, but I'm just saying yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's you know, it's pretty crazy. Yeah. Pretty crazy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But um he was he was trying to do all kinds of things to get David, you know, whacking. But it just it wasn't gonna happen. The Lord had Jonathan in place for David, I believe. And uh Jonathan is going against his daddy. He's sacrificing his own um his own life, protecting David. Uh he didn't made treaties with people. If daddy do this, then don't go. If daddy do this, then go. All kinds of things. And it uh leads to him um honestly giving up his life, his actual life, yeah, so that um David is made king. That was,
Jonathan’s Sacrifice Protects The Throne
SPEAKER_03you know, that was part of that that journey in him protecting David. But um, which is this is this is what I was getting to. Ari and I were talking one Sunday in church, and I was like, I kind of feel like Jonathan is a type of shadow of Jesus. That was my original, my original thoughts, right? So it can't it kind of changed up, but my original thoughts was because him giving over his throne. We know that that uh God comes in the the body of Jesus and he gave up his throne to save us. He gives up his life to save us. So that's who I originally felt like um Jonathan was a type and shadow of, and then being the son of a king, you know, all the things.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And uh he gave up his seat, which he has back now. But uh that was that was why I was leading toward that that thought that Jonathan was a type and shadow of Jesus.
SPEAKER_04So do you still have that? Because you said originally.
SPEAKER_03I feel like he's more like uh a John the Baptist. Yeah. Like a John the Baptist type deal, like, you know, leading the way to I'm not Jesus, I'm not the king. This one is.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's good.
SPEAKER_03So he's like, you know, I'm not worthy to untie this man's shoes. And the people, you know, the people had started hailing Jonathan. I mean, not Jonathan, John the Baptist in the way that he wasn't supposed to be hailed. Of course he's supposed to have been honored, but he has to tell them, you know, no, yeah, not me.
SPEAKER_04The one coming after me was much greater than the thing. Who's much greater? Yeah. Well, I was picking up that. Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead. No, go ahead, go ahead. Oh, I was picking up that he was um a type and shadow of Joseph. Because remember when we talked about Joseph, Joseph had to take on the assignment of um adopting Jesus, raising Jesus, training him. He protected him. Every time the Lord um spoke, Joseph was obedient immediately and got him out of there. So because he protected Jesus, um, Jesus was able to grow and do what he needed to do to save the world. So Jonathan kind of had that same thing with David. He pleaded David's case all the time. Um, he warned David of his father's anger and danger and everything. And so that was to make way. And then if you read on, Saul, Jonathan, and the other brothers even got killed.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which also opened up the door for David to eventually come on in and be king.
SPEAKER_03So absolutely. Absolutely. It's so like that that whole lineage of men, that line of men, uh, I just take note of their demeanor.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And note of their assurety in, you know, what God has said and what he has planned and what he's platted out. And they just rode with it. They were like men of action. Like there was not a lot of uh, there wasn't, we don't see hesitation in them accepting what God said. Right. And this is this man is giving up. Could I am I gonna give up my throne for you, man? God, I mean you cool.
SPEAKER_00Right. You my boy, but I feel like you the throne.
SPEAKER_03I like you, you know what I'm saying? But am I giving up my throne, my life? Am I going against my parents? Yeah because people be having you know familiar ties that are very strong. And we look at uh who is that? Lot. No, Abraham. Lot wasn't supposed to be with him. Nope. Oh yeah. The Lord had told him to leave all your family and go somewhere else. So he let a familiar tie get in the way. Yeah. Yeah. He let a familiar tie, you know, and then actually supposed to be in Abraham's dad, Tara. Yeah, who the who the Lord originally presented him to be. Yeah. But he you know he didn't do it, but Abraham does. And he does a lot of things, you know, along the way. That's that's kind of crazy. But uh, but that nanny's that particular group, like Jonathan and Joseph and them, and yeah, they are fascinating. They're fascinating to me.
SPEAKER_00Um just talking about this, another scripture just came to mind when it said, No greater love. No greater love. So than a man with lay down.
SPEAKER_03So that's why I was leaning toward the type of shadow of Jesus outside. And he says in the Bible that Jonathan loved David, and he said, uh, what was it? His love for him was greater than the love of a woman. Uh, in in that I'm paraphrasing. But people like to say that Jonathan and David had some type of um uh homosexual relationship and that Jonathan was in love with that. I don't think that's it. I mean I'm sure that's not it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I feel like this, right? Let's go back to Adam and the Lord telling him that he he recognized he needed a help meet. This is Jonathan to this man. Right. He's a helpmeet. He was the one that he needed in that position to be who he was to him, to take care of him, to keep him, you know, covered. He has Jonathan, he means he has David's blind side. That's what that's what we supposed to do as wives to our husband. He has the blind side. He he just, you know, he covered this man, right? But you know, people think what they what they want to think and really what they want to be.
SPEAKER_04I know it's one like people saying um how somebody would say that it's a homosexual relationship. I can see where they would try to twist that and pervert it or whatever, but because in one portion it does say like um when Jonathan fully accepted that his dad wanted to kill David, um, he gave him the hints or the cues and was telling David to get away or whatever, and they did kiss and they um they cried together, they kissed, and then they David left. But I never it's not like a it's not like a kiss of passion. It's not like a an intimate, sexually intimate kiss. It's more like like I don't know. Like I don't feel like men kissed on the lips and stuff, they probably kissed on the cheeks or something, like you said.
SPEAKER_00And that's common in that's common in cultures. In their culture, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's common in their culture with men's kiss. It's just it's an affection. It's not trying to be, it's not sexual, is what I'm trying to get at.
SPEAKER_03And if I'm not mistaken, I think Italians do that. You seen that I do soprano. Kissing on the cheeks. And I mean it's cultural. Look, that's how Judas was pointing out, yeah, you kissed the man on the cheeks. So we know that this is not uncommon.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So then I feel like Jonathan just really um he had the assignment to protect that blood line. He did, just as Joseph did. So that's why I was related to Joseph.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.
Clearing Up Misreadings Of Their Love
SPEAKER_03It also made me think of the scripture um in Proverbs uh 17, 17.
SPEAKER_04Um in that uh friendly at all times, and a brother is born for adverse adversity.
SPEAKER_03Surely David is experiencing adversity.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_00And that's even true for us today, like culturally. Like most of us in our culture, depending on what part of the city you're from, some of your best friends, you've had some conflict, some sort of conflict with some conflicts you were able to be uh handle amicably, and some in some instances became physical. Physical. But even after that, y'all were able, they saw you in a different light, because usually it's based off of a misunderstanding of someone.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It could be something you heard, not even something you experienced. But now that y'all have been down that path, now you can see each other in a better light, and then you know, hey, this is somebody that that I can rock with because I know if we can work through this, and they still got my back through this, then it's somebody I could, you know, potentially build a friendship with. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I definitely uh know that my brother and my brothers will protect me. I mean that at an early age. Amen. When I'm when my brother and I were little, I could not tell my brother that somebody had did something to me. He was finna, yeah, he was coming. He was finna do whatever he. And you know, he wasn't a person that went around, you know, starting things and you know, whatever. But when it came to protecting his sister, that was what he was gonna do. That's what he was gonna do.
SPEAKER_00So everybody in our circle. In the circle, absolutely. Yeah, you can't mess with him.
SPEAKER_03It's never a time where I felt like uh unprotected around, you know, the crew, around the the um the guys. You know, I always knew that I was gonna be taken care of some type of way or whatever way that needed to be taken care of, it was gonna be done. Now I wasn't going, we weren't going around putting ourselves in situations just for fun, you know, just doing stuff. But, you know, there was never a thought in my mind was like, oh, I feel like I got a blind side somewhere, or I I got a what they call it in um in boxing, when you you don't be protecting yourself in this certain space. What is it called? You know what I'm talking about?
SPEAKER_00A certain space that you don't protect yourself.
SPEAKER_03Like your body.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04I know what you talking about.
SPEAKER_03The word escapes me now.
SPEAKER_04When Arian did taekwondo, they would say protect your button. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Keep a mouth protected. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I never, you know, I never felt like when we were with them, there was gonna be a space or a part of me that wasn't protected. So I'm just saying that like that. But um all of that, all of that I just find it so fascinating. Like, and I felt like these are, like you were saying earlier, these are God connections, you know what I'm saying? These are godly, god divine things that just put in in your place and putting your life. And we like to say, um, well, I don't have nobody. Have you pushed those people away? Right. Have you pushed them away? Like people don't believe that they can push people away. You definitely can. You wasn't, you ain't my friend. Nah, you wasn't that nah. You was acting a fool. Yeah. You was being a donkey, and then I had to move. The Lord told me, well, don't worry about it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then people don't want accountability.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00Um, because if it's a true friend, they should be able to speak to you. They can say things to you that you need to hear, whether you like it or not. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04They can give you a uh-uh.
SPEAKER_00Be like, yeah, you doing, you're doing too much, bro. Like, chill out.
SPEAKER_04Girl, go take a nap. You're not yourself when you're hungry.
SPEAKER_00We'll try again tomorrow. We're gonna chill out tonight.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That's me. I'm like, sis, you must be tired.
SPEAKER_03A little.
SPEAKER_04You need me to come over.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, a little. Like, that would give you those people too see about you. But you know, we in a culture now where you got you feel like it's best to do things on your own. Yeah. You know, I okay, earlier, let's go here. I was talking about the way of escape. I was on there all week, last week. And uh sometimes the way of escape is is not uh a big thing, it's not a hard thing. It's listening to somebody tell you, you being stupid, you're dumb right now. And you just saying, okay, I appreciate that. You know, not so it ain't always this big, this grand jest that you gotta make. The no be in somebody's mouth. The Lord done told you no some kind of way. Some kind of way. He didn't told you no in his word, don't do that. He didn't told you no in your heart, and and when your parents was raising you up, he didn't told you no. Your friend be like, uh-uh. But no, you didn't push everybody away. Then you won't say, ain't nobody came to see it about me. You didn't push it, you don't got no circle because you want your circle small, right? Yeah. My circle is big. It's big.
SPEAKER_00People give that that uh that title away too easily. What? Friend?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_00I looked up, I looked up the definition of friend. It said, a friend is a trusted, loyal companion who provides emotional support and shares mutual affection. Good friends offer steadfast support during difficult times, acting as a behavioral vaccine that boosts physical and mental health.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00I said, boy, boy, boy.
SPEAKER_03So that means that your friend's not always gonna agree with what you got going on. So let's look at this. So the Lord has given David Jonathan. Whether David was fool enough not to believe, or not to take the advice, or not to take the way of escape. That has been so beautifully planted for him. Yeah. What are y'all doing? You gotta ask yourself, am I a fool? You know, am I tripping? Am I losing it? Like everybody that you meet, you get into it with them. Every friend group, you you gotta get rid of some. Every year you gotta get rid of some old friends. What y'all don't talk to Jesus? He don't tell you no, that's not your friend. He don't tell you yes, that's your friend. I don't think y'all not gonna agree with everything. He don't tell you, but yeah, that's still your friend.
SPEAKER_00But I don't think people actually put that matter before him.
SPEAKER_03You got to.
SPEAKER_00We don't. Uh uh it's a lot of things that people should do that they really don't do. Oh, for sure. But and then they want to blame God. I'm like, where where was God? Like, did you consult him? Or did you just do what you want to do and now that the situation didn't work out the way you thought it should? Now you're looking for blame instead of taking accountability of your actions.
SPEAKER_03I'm telling you,
Way Of Escape And Accountability
SPEAKER_03like, once you again going back to the way of escape, I was telling uh 1890 earlier that I was in a relationship that I shouldn't have been in. I heard the original no. And the Lord provided I heard the original no. That was the way that was the escape right there. Don't even get in the involved with it. Just no, don't do it. I still did it. Then he gave he was gracious enough to give me another way of escape. Clear. Clear. It wouldn't mean no bad blood, no nothing. And I still still didn't take it. And he caused me years of my life.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Years And here I done built up walls that ain't even had to be there because I didn't follow the original note. Because I didn't follow the original note. Can I be and then now my heart is being ravaged by emotions that shouldn't have even been there? Right. That didn't have to be there. That was a time he had to redeem. If I would have had just listened. But no, you know, we don't draw away by my own lusts. And we already talked about listening on this area of me, sexual all the time. But just drawn by uh something I felt like I wanted in my life at the time, needed in my life at the time. Foolish. And I heard the no. I heard it, kept going. Gave me a way of escape. I tossed it to the side, kept going. Foolish. But can I blame those other people? No. Can I even blame the other person? No. Can't even do that. Now the feelings I had was real. And now air quotes, because they shouldn't have been there.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_03Because of the note. Yeah. Because of the note. And the emotions I experienced after everything was was broken up, they was real too, but they didn't have to be there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So we have be having all these scars and bruises that we don't necessarily have to have.
SPEAKER_04Unnecessary scars and bruises.
SPEAKER_03Unnecessary. Because I mean, honestly, once we stop looking at Jesus or God as a dictator, and we could look at him as our friend, we'll hear him, man, when he tells us no.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Because really, God is He's the father and the mother and the friend and the brother and the sister that you wish you had on earth. He's all those things wrapped into one. He is.
SPEAKER_03He everything. And then he's that, and then he gives us those people. Yeah. But no, you, you know, you driving them away, telling people you don't need nobody. That's the case you wouldn't be on social media. And now we do all these counterfeit things. Yeah. To fill them them voids. And all it takes is community. And people, you know, the people that God gave you. He can give you everything you need. And some of us have pushed away out of Jonathan. Mm-hmm. We didn't dig it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the thing is, if you really if you realize that you pushed them away, are you mature enough to go back and make that relationship right? Make that friendship right.
SPEAKER_04You need to.
SPEAKER_00You need to repent.
SPEAKER_04But don't just repent to God, repent to your Jonathan and reconcile. And you also got to handle the fact that your Jonathan may forgive you, but they may not let you have that access for it.
SPEAKER_03They may not want to reconnect.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But you can't be saying out your mouth, they never loved you because that's a lie. It is a lot too good. It's a lot to it. But we can't, uh, you know, you just can't be fools. It's time for us to stop being stupid.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03At the end of the day.
SPEAKER_00It just is what it is. I mean, just be honest with yourself.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like a lot of times, like people tell me I'm too honest about some situation. I said, that could be. I said, but that's only because I refuse a lie to myself. I mean, in order for a lie to be believable, you have to believe it when you're telling it. So I'm like, I'm I'm okay with admitting my shortcomings and my faults and things like that.
SPEAKER_03So and then, like, like you said, okay, like, I like to take this example right here. It's about fixing things, right? It's about making it right. It's about changing things. Um, I say this is a lot because I work with children, right? So, like, say you talked a lot when you was in school, and then now your kid talks a lot while they in school. So it's okay to be like, yeah, I did that. I talked a lot when I was in school. But somebody got fix the junk. Right. What y'all gonna do? Right. Just keep on doing it and keep on letting that go down the bloodline. I'm not saying that, you know, make the child be quiet all the time because that's impossible.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And that could be their purpose where they're gonna do a lot of talking, but you still gotta guide it or whatever. But you know, just just saying, oh, that's me, that's just who I am, that ain't working
When Ignoring No Costs Years
SPEAKER_03for you. It's not working for anybody.
SPEAKER_00And interesting that you that you mentioned that because I uh I dealt with that with my son. I was always, it wasn't that I was, I would have to find ways to entertain myself. Like I would get done with the work before everybody else, and I'm just sitting here like bored with nothing to do. So the same thing was going on with him, and the teacher was saying, like, he's a distraction. I said, Okay, so this is what I want you to do. I said, Become teacher's pet. Yeah, I said, and I told her, I said, ask her if you can have an extra assignment, or ask her, is there anything that you could do for her? See, now it's on her. You're not disturbing the other students and you're not talking, like now you're up there with her. Is there any? Now don't be, I said, because I know you. Don't go overboard like you're trying to prove a point. Yeah, be sincere, because hey, if you don't know how to behave yourself, being intelligent, that that means nothing if your behavior doesn't match. Nobody's still gonna want to have to deal with you or be around. It's the duality of what I heard that I said. Definitely a band.
SPEAKER_03My mom and then we used to say, yeah, you steal it. But yeah, I mean, that's usually what I do too, is the kids who uh kind of active. I'm saying, well, do this since you got so much energy. Do that, right? But I also tell them, now if I don't have nothing for you, do that don't mean you're up in here acting no fool either.
SPEAKER_00So you have self-control.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you gotta come to the conclusion that you just gonna have to, like you say, control yourself, do what you gotta do. But um I just think that Jonathan uh is a lot of people. He's a type of shadow of a lot of people. Absolutely. Uh friendship for sure. That's that's the strongest point I see in him. But again, we go back to God, Jesus, he's our friend. He says that. Yeah, he sees us as you know, he has his friends. And we when we were his enemies, he died so that we could become his friends. Yeah that's friendship.
SPEAKER_00Who am I? That you were mindful of me.
SPEAKER_03That you're mindful of me. What is man? Yes. He's always mindful of us, and he gives us Jonathan's. He gives us Joseph's. You just gotta be open up your eyes, open up your eyes and see and initiate who you have.
SPEAKER_04That scripture, um, the Proverbs 17 and 17, it has a dual blessing for some of us. Because you know, you have um the friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born of for the day of adversity. So, like Myron said, the friend is the connection, and usually a friend is not somebody who's bloodborne, but a brother is bloodborne normally. But like for a lot of us, you know, you have a sibling, I'll just say a brother for this case. So you have a brother who is also your friend. So, like for most uh many of us, that's a double blessing. If I had a brother who is also my friend, yeah. And I feel like um Jonathan had that with David. And really don't talk about that much. Well, I haven't let me say, I haven't seen where David talked about his father and his mother and his brothers. The only thing I remember is seeing that um his brothers fought with him when he was in the wilderness running from Saul. And then he asked um one of the kings for his mother and his dad to live in that country while they were running from Saul. So I don't know if David really had like um a strong connection with his friends other than like the I mean his family other than like the cultural connection.
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04Raising the sheep and Right.
SPEAKER_03Cause he was the brother that was um left out when uh Samuel came to anoint the new king. So his daddy served it. Yeah, he presented all the other brothers because they look like they look like a king. And he he was back in there doing kingly things.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So but I we only only time, like you said, that time, and the only time I hear him really just say who his dad is is when Saul asked him. Yeah. And he's like, I'm the son of your servant, Jesse.
SPEAKER_04And then when um they at the table and Saul was mad that he didn't come to the dinner, he was like, Well, it's a son of Jesse. Yeah. It's not some mental.
SPEAKER_00Pity, my God. Pity. But I have I have been fortunate enough that I do have a brother that I consider my friend. I love you, Gary.
SPEAKER_04We love you, Gary. Yeah, and I'm the same.
SPEAKER_03You don't laugh when you hear that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I know it. Then it's gonna look crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We're gonna live it at the same time.
SPEAKER_04What you finna say, Z? I was gonna say, I've been blessed the same. My sisters and brothers, like we are like really close friends, and we we're gonna get even closer as time goes on.
SPEAKER_03Because you get older and you you learn new things about them, you learn new things about yourself. And for sure, my brother and my sister are my friends. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh and it just be feeling like the three of us sometimes. And you know, we be talking and messing with each other, but those are definitely my uh my first friends, you know. Because it is a privilege now these days to say that, you know, my brother and my sister are my friends. Because you got people don't, first of all, they may not know their siblings, or if they do, they don't talk. Right. Like when I see videos of people like, haven't seen my brother in 25 years, I can't imagine that. Yeah, because it's not my reality. And I know that there are things that happen, but sometimes you really do have to separate yourself from people. But a lot of times, um when you see stuff like that, it just be something small or something petty. Because a lot of times, even we're okay, like with kids who have parents that were just, you know, weird, you know, might have been strung out or whatever, you still see them kids pining for their parents.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. You do.
SPEAKER_03It's usually people be what's this, what's the new culture now? They be um, what is it called when they stop talking to people? No contact. It sounds dumb, no contact. That sounds dumb. It does. Like again, you know, I'm not talking about the instances where that has to take place, but a lot of times the no contact is just because somebody told you something you didn't want to hear. Right, it don't be because there's really a real situation that's happening.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because people, like again, I said, people, you you have more grace in you than what you believe. Right. And a lot of times people just heard somebody say, Oh, I went no contact. Why are you telling us? Right. If it wasn't important to you, if it didn't bother to you, then what are you telling us for?
SPEAKER_04And Dr. Mike Moore said it's actually not healthy to um just go no contact and not let that person know why we're setting these boundaries. And isn't that Bible? Yeah, I said, Oh, isn't that Bible?
SPEAKER_00We're
Community Versus No Contact Culture
SPEAKER_00about to come to the body. If you got an art, go to that person.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, y'all just go some people for fun. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Go go online instead of even talking to that person.
SPEAKER_03When you tell them the world, they they laughing at you. Right. They might say they agree with you, but man, no contact sounds real stupid when I'm sorry if it sounds strong, but when when kids are born, first thing you gotta do is have contact. Full skin to skin contact. Yeah, skin to contact skin. Skin to skin tucked contact was actually saving the Nick you baby lies. Yeah. Just the contact. Mm-hmm. What y'all gonna do? You learn in the animal world that you don't be attacked if you in a group.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_00Like on single to one night.
SPEAKER_03And it's the weak one. Or the food is by itself. We caught y'all. You just silly for the most part. And that's not even the way we're supposed to be going. But some of y'all need to apologize to people. And apologize to yourself. Being silly. Or for being misled. And then we all had those moments. I did a lot of things, me and misled, me and silly, being a fool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But you gotta come to yourself, is what the Bible says. Come to yourself. And I can't imagine the things that I dealt with in my life. I can't imagine not having a group, not having a friend group, not having a Jonathan, not having my siblings, not having no contact would have killed me. Easy. Yeah. Because I would have gave up. Easy.
SPEAKER_00That's when the devil does his best work when you buy something.
SPEAKER_04When you isolate isolation, sometimes you need isolation, but you better be careful and discerning about when to isolate and how long to isolate.
SPEAKER_03You even see, you see in the Bible, the the one prophet, then man said he wanted to die. And the Lord get something to eat. Take a nap. Elijah?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Or Elisha.
SPEAKER_03One of them. Get yourself together. You need community. Like even okay, we Moses, when he was in the wilderness with the children of Israel, he was trying to do everything by his still. You know his father, too. You need some help. Are you gonna kill yourself? Come on now. It's just a one man show ain't it's not necessary, and it's not Bible. If we look at creation, it's interdependent. Everything about it, the ecosystem is interdependent. Everything, the ocean, the moon, all of this stuff is is created and it's called what y'all call it, a cycle of life. It can't be no cycle if it's if it's one thing. You just don't, it don't go, people. It don't add up. It don't add up. Some of y'all need to go get y'all Jonathons and apologize.
SPEAKER_04I was just thinking that yeah. We need to sit down, just take some time and really look at who God has placed in our lives and see who the Jonathans are. And if you don't know, ask God. Ask him. God, who should I be reconnecting with? Who should who do I need to ask for forgiveness? And who do I need to forgive? Because you need Jonathans in your life. You need Davids in your life. You need people who are going to um be able to get you to the next point in your life. Not that not that you're using people, but it's gonna be a beneficial, a mutually beneficial um relationship to where you can bless them, they can bless you. But we still gonna walk in the way, the truth, and the life, and we're gonna tell each other the truth. We're gonna operate in the truth, and we're gonna continue to follow the road that God has placed us on.
SPEAKER_00And ask for the words to say. If you're not sure what to say, ask for the words to say. And like Brother said, say only what he tells you to say. Don't add no extra commentary. Say only what he tells you to say. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Not only do you need to ask God to show you your junkings, you need to ask him to show you your sauce. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05My God.
SPEAKER_03Who you need to get rid of. You be getting rid of the wrong people. Yeah. You be getting rid of the wrong ones. I shouldn't, if I'm your friend, I shouldn't want to see you drunk all the time. Right. Right. I shouldn't want to see that at a certain point. We should be growing up. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You don't need to.
SPEAKER_03And I should be asking you, why do you want to be inebriated all the time? What is it?
SPEAKER_04Are you okay? What are you hiding from? What do we need to tackle? What do we need to tackle?
SPEAKER_00What are you trying to escape? For this, for these few moments. Because guess what? If you really don't address it at the root, that same, once you sober up, once you once that high comes down, guess what? That same problem still there. Waiting on you.
SPEAKER_04It is.
SPEAKER_03We're not telling you not to have a good time, please. Come on. Common sense, guys. Come on, like honestly.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But all the time, you shouldn't be um sniffing something up your nose. Mm-mm. All the time, we shouldn't see that all the time. I shouldn't be satisfied with seeing that all the time. Right. As your friend. I'm not saying people don't go through things because they do. And if you don't know how to turn to the right way, that's what you'll do. But I mean, at the end of the day, still we gotta say, what's up? Yeah. What's up with that? What's going on?
SPEAKER_04And ask God who likes to show you you, show you yourself. So who am I supposed to be a Jonathan for? Or who am I supposed to be a David for? Really, if you think about it and you look at the creation, we all have something in us. We all have a um a David lineage in us to where we're supposed to be flowing with Christ and like building something up for the kingdom while we're in the earth realm. So ask God to show you what you're supposed to be doing with your hands and your mouth, your mind, your time, your family, your friends. Who you who are you supposed to be in Christ?
SPEAKER_05That's good.
SPEAKER_04There's more Jonathan's out there, there's more Davids out there.
SPEAKER_03And you let you, that was a beautiful point. Who you supposed to be a Jonathan too. Because we not only just on the receiving end. Yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We gotta we gotta give. And I saw a couple of videos about people not wanting to be inconvenienced, you know, and being a friend. Because sometimes you're not gonna feel like it. Right. But community in the community, and you gotta step up. And it also takes me back to the scripture with Jonathan. He might not have felt like taking off his that man, you know, I'm giving you my sword. He might not have wanted to feel like felt like doing that. But he inconvenienced himself and did it. And then also, when he did that, took me to the scripture that was talking about um uh when did you clothe me? When did you feed me? Yeah. And the Lord was like, when you did it, when did we feed you? When you did it to the least of them. When you did it to the least of them. Yeah. Sometimes we just we really got to break out of this thing uh not wanting to be inconvenienced, not wanting everything supposed to be peachy. That's crazy. That's bad. Crazy work.
SPEAKER_04Definitely been there.
SPEAKER_03Crazy work, but you want people to inconvenience themselves.
SPEAKER_04Correct, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's give and take, folks. Yeah. It's give and take. Yeah. Your body give and take all the time. You inhale and exhale oxygen. You take it in, you give it, you give back carbon dioxide. But if the trees ain't giving you oxygen and you're not giving them a carbon dioxide, everybody's gonna die.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_03Everything's gonna die. Right. We just told you you made us interdependent. The things we don't even think about.
Who You’re Called To Cover
SPEAKER_04Jonathan actually inconvenienced himself in another way because um he had to go against his father. His own father was a man. You know how hard and to go against royalty like that. So he knew that uh his dad was trying to kill David, but he still had to choose righteousness. He still chose it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he knew it. And he knew his dad was crazy, and it wasn't nothing to him because Jonathan to die.
SPEAKER_04Did we mention that the daddy tried to kill Jonathan? He threw a spear at Jonathan all that.
SPEAKER_03No, he didn't, but yeah. That man was crazy. He already was gonna give him up in 14. He wasn't up, yeah. Don't know if you're having that at his own son.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he said, I'm gonna maintain my throne.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00By any means necessary.
SPEAKER_04He said, let's cast lots and see if it's real Jonathan.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_03A real king, a real daddy from the sacrifice themselves. But that man didn't care. Nope. No worries. None. That man was tripping. But we just gotta be careful. We gotta be mindful. We gotta find the Jonathan. And then, like my sis said, find who you supposed to be a Jonathan to. Ask the Lord to show you. And if you ask him, he's gonna tell you. He's gonna show you, like, that man been showing me myself so strong. I'd be like, dog. But you can't, you know. Yeah, you have to be honest with yourself. You can't. Yeah. Some what somebody said you the victim the villain in somebody's story somewhere.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you told me that. I was like, oh.
SPEAKER_03But you're right, you're right. It is what it is. You the villain in somebody's story.
SPEAKER_04Somebody's story, yeah.
SPEAKER_03My God.
SPEAKER_04It got you too.
SPEAKER_03I felt that little uh the gut punch. Oh but it's the truth though. It's the truth.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Thank you, friend. You're welcome, friend.
SPEAKER_03But um I love uh I just love all the pieces. I just love seeing uh God put all the pieces together and I just think it's just so methodical and so perfect and so beautiful. But uh whenever whenever I look, of course when I was younger, it was Kind of hard for me to understand the story. The account because I was like, man, that couldn't have been me. I couldn't have did that job. But I felt like that with Jesus. It couldn't be. Y'all better thank God for Jesus. Because I'm on the cross dying for you. Y'all done beat me to a pup. I'm unrecognizable. You done stripped my clothes off. Y'all selling my stuff. My friends that betrayed me and told the people they don't know me. And then you trying to taunt me. If Jesus is the king of the Jews and the Son of God. Playing in my face. Playing in my face. Send legions around. Yeah. Bet.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03I'm out of here. Yeah. Bet. I'm out of here. But yeah, thank God for Jesus. Amen. Thank God for him.
SPEAKER_04Really do.
SPEAKER_00Because Lord knows if it had to be me. The first slash. Probably before the first one came down. Hey, angel. In the garden.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. In the garden.
SPEAKER_00Get me up out of here.
SPEAKER_03What I'm saying, can I not drink this bitter cup? Yeah. And then I'm be like, you know what?
SPEAKER_05Pour it out.
SPEAKER_04Get it out of here. Y'all got to get somebody else to do it. Because I ain't the one.
SPEAKER_00Is there a plan C Jesus?
SPEAKER_03Man. Take one of them. Right. But thank God, Jesus. Thank God that He He did like Jonathan. Obedient unto death. Not your will. I mean, not my will, but yours. Your will. Your will. I'm sacrificing myself. Yeah. Man. But I hope you guys have enjoyed this episode as much as I have. Enjoyed the word of God as much as I do. Did y'all enjoy it?
SPEAKER_00I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
SPEAKER_03I feel I feel like we could keep going more and more and more. Yeah. You what you got? What point you got inside?
SPEAKER_04Another point.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. What point you got?
SPEAKER_04I don't know if I have another point, but I mean I would say just to just to for to make the world a better place. See who you need to be a Jonathan to. So, you know, and also y'all just um give your life to Christ if you have not given yourself to him. That's the first thing. So he can hear you and he can honor you and you honor him and learn of his ways. And you know, let him in to show you how to be better to somebody else. Because he gave to us freely, and by love and kindness, he's drawing us, and you're gonna repeat the process, and it's gonna make everything better and better down the line and along
Salvation And Final Challenges
SPEAKER_04the way.
SPEAKER_03So I agree with that. You definitely um have to have a relationship with the Lord to hear him. I mean, and honestly, I feel like okay, which I think. I feel like we hear God even when we're not uh we haven't given our lives to him. Yeah. I feel like we we like to call it out with instinct or I just feel it ain't my good. Yeah. But we hear him more for sure when you open up ourselves to him and we give him our lives. Um it's it's just like let's say if I have children, right, and then my children are at this party, and some other children are at a party, and something is happening, and I say everybody get down, my children for sure are gonna know that I'm telling them to get down. Now the other children are gonna hear me too. Some of them might get down, some of them might not, because we're not in relationship. They might be looking for their own mama or whatever. But my children, the ones I'm in a relationship with, they're gonna get down. Or they're gonna get gone, whatever I say. So it's it's like that.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03And it's easy to do. It's easy. Salvation is easy. You just receive the gift of God. He done already paid for everything. And I like to tell people, you believe in God already. Because you be mad at him when stuff goes wrong. What you say. Yeah. You don't never be like, God, Buddha. Yeah. God, Confucius, God dog, Hinduism.
SPEAKER_00Mohammed.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, son. What are you doing? Moon? Nobody don't say that. Mm-mm. You like, God dog, God, where you at? You asking where he be there. So you already believe in him. Just give him your life. It's just so, it's so easy. He didn't did all the hard part. You you just say, Lord, I'm nothing without you.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I need you. I receive you into my life. I believe that you died, you were buried, and you rose again. And you believe it already. Just confess it. And put that put that belief on there. Because when you get mad, you're gonna run to them. You're gonna run right to them in anger or in surrender. So just don't get on the surrender side while you got the time. You're gonna bow to his name. You don't you're gonna declare it anyway. You might as well do it ahead of time. That's it. What you got? Um, friend.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_03The wine. The wine is that's one of my jams.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_03I ain't heard that in a long time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, just when dealing with people, I heard I just heard two songs. You know, I heard friends. How many of us have them? On one side of the coin. Yeah. And on the other side of the coin, when you got a Jonathan, I hear the thing from the Golden Girls.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Thank you for being a friend. Have you ever just have you ever just listened to the words of that? Travel down the road and back again.
SPEAKER_04I love that song.
SPEAKER_00Your heart is true. You're a pal and a confidant. They wrote that. They did they big things? They did they big one on that one?
SPEAKER_03What you say. Yeah. They really did. They really did. And who was that? T S E?
SPEAKER_00Which one?
SPEAKER_03What about your friends? Oh, that's what about your friends.
SPEAKER_00I think mine was Houdini. Houdini.
SPEAKER_03What about your friends?
SPEAKER_00The ones you can depend on. But can your friends depend on you? My God.
SPEAKER_03Right. Are you a friend?
SPEAKER_00Bible says you gotta show yourself friendly now.
SPEAKER_03That would he say. The plan is in there. It's in there. You want friends to show yourself.
SPEAKER_00You gotta cut people off, maybe. I mean, if all these different people have a problem, and you know, who's the common denominator, my God? Common denominator. Common denominator. It's time to be honest with yourself.
SPEAKER_03It's time.
SPEAKER_00It can't be everybody else all the time and you not take a look at yourself.
SPEAKER_03Sometimes people, y'all are just jerks, and you don't want to admit it. And then you raise little baby jerks, and now the jerk lineage continues. Oh my god. Come on now, y'all. Honestly. It's really just a lineage of fear. Yeah, it's out of fear, it's out of all those things. But I mean, you gotta get to the root of it. And I'm not trying to be mean, you know. It's just when the Lord showed you all the cycles, it's insane. And he please, he showed me about me all the time. And it's things that I'm working on. Even now. And he showed me where they came from. If I ask him, I sit down and listen to him, he'll show me where it came from. He'll tell me where it came from. So it's not that I'm not working on myself too. Enter and outer, but come on. How many excuses I'm gonna make? I'm just putting it on me so everybody can feel good. How many excuses I'm gonna make. You know how long I'm gonna let that keep going on. Right. And at this point, there's nobody to blame other than the choices that we be making. Alright, y'all. Enjoy it. Being here with my friends, my people, my God connections.
Closing Words And Outro
SPEAKER_03I hope that you enjoyed this episode. I hope you learned something from it. I hope that it makes you intrigued and it makes you desire to read the word of God and to commune with him, to be intimate with the Lord. And um just share with your family, share with your friends, especially your enemies. Do it. It's Bible. We'll see y'all next time.
SPEAKER_01I just had a long way, know a couple of ways to fix my face, but I'm gonna hit my ease. Then I'm telling this, just had a long way.
SPEAKER_02No need to drive it on the empty tape. Reveal the truth to this walk. When the footprints in the scale, way more bitey than yours. No stamina holdin' on to his shoulders. When life get heavy as boulders, the vessel will be made available. Let's ready toad us. All glory to God while we go on this journey. Put all into your speeches. We decree that you have made us worthy. We still listen, so Lord, talk to me. And protect me from the ones who throwin' south to me. I'm never afraid of people finding little faults in me. Cause I'm tight with the Redeemer. Just take this walk with me. Or come talk with me. I'm here to shed his light and do my best to be reflection of him at all times. And even when I fall off his honesty in my eyes, I'm not a perfect person. I'm the first to admit it, buddy.
