Starting the morning off with God is the key to strength and success in your day. Good morning. Today is Monday, January twelfth, twenty twenty-six. Please join me in praying the morning offering prayer and prayers for our Holy Father. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of your sacred heart, in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the holy intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen. Prayers for the Holy Father Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon thy servant, Pope Leo XV, our supreme pontiff, and direct him according to thy loving kindness in the way of eternal salvation, that of thy gift he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto thee, and may accomplish it with all his might, through Christ our Lord, amen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Meditation of the Day an excerpt from the Confessions of Saint Augustine by Saint Augustine page one hundred ninety seven You judge me, O Lord, for although no one knows the things of a man but the spirit of a man which is in him, there is something further in man which not even that spirit of man which is in him knows, but you Lord, who made him, know all things that are in him. Proverbs chapter three verses five through six. Saint of the day. The saint of the day for january twelfth is Saint Marguerite Borgiosa. Saint Marguerite Borgiosa lived between sixteen twenty and seventeen hundred. She was born in France to a large middle class Christian family. After having a deep religious experience at the age of twenty, Marguerite dedicated her life to God through the Virgin Mary. She then joined an apostolate which served God by educating underprivileged children. When she was thirty two, the governor of Fort Vie Marie, now Montreal, Canada, visited Marguerite's town and invited her to be a missionary in the New World as a lay teacher, instructing the children of the colonists and the Native Americans. Marguerite agreed and made the long ocean journey. Realizing the importance of the family in establishing New France, Marguerite mentored young ladies and prepared them for marriage and family life as pioneer women. She signed as a witness on the marriage certificates of many early settlers. As a result of these activities, she was affectionately called the mother of the colony. She also worked to build the first church and the first school. She also founded the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal, which is an active religious order to this day. For her great apostolic and missionary activity, she is considered the co-foundress of Montreal. She is also the first woman saint of the Catholic Church in Canada. And today, January 12th, is the feast day of Saint Marguerite Borciosa. Devotion of the month, the month of January, is traditionally dedicated to the holy name of Jesus. After the Blessed Virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit, the angel Gabriel appeared to Saint Joseph and told him that the child's name should be called Jesus, meaning God saves. According to Jewish law, on the eighth day after his birth, a male child was to be circumcised, receive his name, and become a full member of God's covenant people. According to the old Roman liturgical calendar, the feast of the circumcision of Jesus was celebrated on January 1st, eight days after Christmas, the same day that he was given his sacred name. Currently we celebrate the Solemnity of the Mother of God on January 1st and honor the holy name of Jesus on January 3rd. For Catholics, Jesus' sacred name is the object of a special devotion symbolized by the monogram IHS, sometimes called a Christogram, which is the first three letters of the Greek spelling of his name. Readings for Holy Mass for Monday of the first week in ordinary time. A reading from the first book of Samuel, chapter one verses one through eight. There was a certain man from Ramathane, Elkanah by name, a Zufite from the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuf, an Ephraimite. He had two wives, one named Hannah, the other Panina. Paninnah had children, but Hannah was childless. This man regularly went on pilgrimage from his city to worship the Lord of hosts and to sacrifice to him at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hoffni and Phineas, were ministering as priests of the Lord. When the day came for Elkanah to offer sacrifice, he used to give a portion each to his wife Penina and to all her sons and daughters, but a double portion to Hannah, because he loved her, though the Lord had made her barren. Her rival, to upset her, turned it into a constant reproach to her that the Lord had left her barren. This went on year after year. Each time they made their pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Lord, Penina would approach her, and Hannah would weep and refuse to eat. Her husband, Elkinaw, used to ask her, Hannah, why do you weep and why do you refuse to eat? Why do you grieve? Am I not more to you than ten sons? The Word of the Lord Responsorial Psalm Psalm one hundred sixteen To you, Lord, I will offer a sacrifice of praise. How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me? After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God. This is the time of fulfillment, the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel. As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea. They were fishermen. Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. The Gospel of the Lord Prayer of Spiritual Communion In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. Morning Glory Consecration Prayer. Mary, my mother, I give myself totally to you as your possession and property. Please make of me, of all that I am and have, whatever most pleases you. Let me be a fit instrument in your immaculate and merciful hands for bringing the greatest possible glory to God. Amen. Prayer to Saint Joseph. O glorious Saint Joseph, chosen by God to be the guardian of the Holy Family, whose protection is so great, so strong, in union with the Blessed Virgin Mary and our Savior Jesus Christ, send down from heaven a blessing from God to protect us from any harm, strengthen us in body, soul, and spirit. We ask this through thy powerful intercession. Holy Family, pray for us, amen. Guardian Angel Prayer O angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide, amen. Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls, amen. The three Hail Mary's Devotion The first Hail Mary in honor of God the Father. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother, to thee do I come before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them who can neither deceive nor be deceived. In this faith I intend to live and die. Amen. O my God, relying on your almighty power, infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins, the help of your grace, and the life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen. Act of love. O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen. Prayer for the poor souls in purgatory. O gentle heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in purgatory, have mercy on them. Be not severe in thy judgment, but let some drops of thy precious blood fall upon the devouring flames. Merciful Savior, send thy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light, and peace. O Lord my God, from this moment do I accept from thy hands with burning love and sincere contrition, with a calm and willing disposition, whatsoever death thou shalt choose to send me with its pains and griefs.
