Starting the morning off with God is the key to strength and success in your day. Good morning. Today is Thursday, january twenty second, twenty twenty six. Please join me in praying the morning offering prayer and prayers for our Holy Father. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of your sacred heart, in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the holy intentions of the Holy Father this month, amen. Prayers for the Holy Father Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon thy servant, Pope Leo XV, our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him according to thy loving kindness in the way of eternal salvation, that of thy gift he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto thee, and may accomplish it with all his might, through Christ our Lord, amen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen. Meditation of the Day an excerpt from Attaining Salvation Devout Reflections and Meditations by Saint Alphonsus Lagori, pages twenty and twenty one. Saint John Chrysostom advises us to go to the tombs of the dead in order to learn the science of salvation. Oh what admirable schools of truth are the sepulchres to make us know the vanity of the world. Let us go to the tombs, there, said the saint, there I see nothing but corruption, bones and worms. Among all these skeletons which I see, I cannot tell which belong to the ignorant and which to the learned. I only see that, with death, all the glories of the world were ended for them. What has remained of a Cicero, a Demosthenes, an Ulpian? They have slept their sleep, and have found nothing in their hands. Psalm seventy five six Blessed is he who has received from God the science of the saints. The science of the saints is to know how to love God. How many in the world are well versed in literature, in mathematics, in foreign and ancient languages? But what will all this profit them if they know not how to love God? Blessed is he, said Saint Augustine, who knows God, even if he knows nothing else. He that knows God and loves him, though he be ignorant of what others know, is more learned than all the learned who know not how to love God. The unlearned arise and seize upon heaven, cried out the same saint. How learned were a Saint Francis of Assisi, a Saint Paschal, a Saint John of God, ignorant in worldly science, but well skilled in that which is divine. Thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones. Matthew chapter eleven verse twenty five. By the wise we are here to understand the worldly wise, who labor for the possessions and glories of the world and make little account of eternal goods, and by little ones we are to understand simple souls, like children, who know little of worldly wisdom, but devote all their care to pleasing God. Oh, let us not then envy those who know many things, let us only envy those who know how to love Jesus Christ, and let us imitate Saint Paul, who desired to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified, for he says, I judged not myself to know anything among you but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Happy are we if we attain to the knowledge of the love which Jesus crucified has borne us, and from this book of divine love learn to love him. Scripture verse of the day I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, that I know very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. Psalm 139 verses fourteen through sixteen. Saint of the day. The saint of the day for January 22nd is Saint Anastasius the Persian. Saint Anastasius the Persian lived in the seventh century. He was the son of a Persian sorcerer. He became a Zoroastrian soldier in the army of Cosrel II, the Persian monarch who absconded the true cross of Christ from Jerusalem and took it to Persia in six hundred fourteen. Saint Anastasius inquired about the mysterious cross and the Christian religion, and as a result, soon converted to the true faith, left the army, received baptism, and became a monk at a monastery in Jerusalem. He lived there seven years until he was called by God to martyrdom among his people. He went to Caesarea to preach, which was then under Persian rule. He was captured and subject to cruel tortures. He was promised freedom and a high position in the kingdom if he would simply denounce his faith, which he refused. Saint Anastasius was strangled and beheaded. Saint Anastasius the Persian, pray for us. Readings for Holy Mass for Thursday of the second week in ordinary time. A reading from the first book of Samuel, chapter eighteen verses six through nine, and chapter nineteen verses one through seven. When David and Saul approached on David's return after slaying the Philistine, women came out from each of the cities of Israel to meet King Saul, singing and dancing with tambourines, joyful songs, and sistrums. The women played and sang, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. Saul was very angry and resentful of the song, for he thought, They give David ten thousands, but only thousands to me. All that remains for him is the kingship. And from that day on Saul was jealous of David. Saul discussed his intention of killing David with his son Jonathan and with all his servants, but Saul's son Jonathan, who was very fond of David, told him, My father Saul is trying to kill you, therefore, please be on your guard tomorrow morning, get out of sight and remain in hiding. I, however, will go out and stand beside my father in the countryside where you are, and will speak to him about you. If I learn anything, I will let you know. Jonathan then spoke well of David to his father Saul, saying to him, Let not your Majesty sin against his servant David, for he has committed no offense against you, but has helped you very much by his deeds. When he took his life in his hands and slew the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel through him, you were glad to see it. Why then should you become guilty of shedding innocent blood by killing David without cause? Saul heeded Jonathan's plea and swore, As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed. So Jonathan summoned David and repeated the whole conversation to him. Jonathan then brought David to Saul, and David served him as before. The Word of the Lord Responsorial Psalm Psalm fifty six In God I trust, I shall not fear. Have mercy on me, O God, for men trample upon me. All the day they press their attack against me, my adversaries trample upon me all the day, yes, many fight against me. In God I trust, I shall not fear. My wanderings you have counted, my tears are stored in your flask. Are they not recorded in your book? Then do my enemies turn back when I call upon you. In God I trust, I shall not fear. Now I know that God is with me, in God in whose promise I glory, in God I trust without fear. What can flesh do against me? In God I trust I shall not fear. I am bound, O God, by vows to you, your thank offerings I will fulfill, for you have rescued me from death, my feet too from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living. In God I trust, I shall not fear. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark, chapter three verses seven through twelve. Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples, a large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many, and as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him, they would fall down before him and shout, You are the Son of God. He warned them sternly not to make him known. The Gospel of the Lord Prayer of Spiritual Communion In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. Morning Glory Consecration Prayer Mary, my mother, I give myself totally to you as your possession and property. Please make of me, of all that I am and have, whatever most pleases you. Let me be a fit instrument in your immaculate and merciful hands for bringing the greatest possible glory to God. Amen. Prayer to Saint Joseph. O glorious Saint Joseph, chosen by God to be the guardian of the Holy Family, whose protection is so great, so strong, in union with the Blessed Virgin Mary and our Savior Jesus Christ, send down from heaven a blessing from God to protect us from any harm, strengthen us in body, soul, and spirit. We ask this through thy powerful intercession. Holy Family, pray for us, amen. Guardian Angel Prayer O angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide, amen. Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls, amen. The three Hail Mary's Devotion The first Hail Mary, in honor of God the Father. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen. The third Hail Mary, in honor of God, the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. O my mother, preserve my soul from mortal sin during this day. Amen. Memori to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. Act of Faith. O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man, died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them who can neither deceive nor be deceived. In this faith I intend to live and die. Amen. Act of hope. O my God, relying on your almighty power, infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins, the help of your grace, and the life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen. Act of love. O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen. Prayer for the poor souls in purgatory. O gentle heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in purgatory, have mercy on them. Be not severe in thy judgment, but let some drops of thy precious blood fall upon the devouring flames. Merciful Savior, send thy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light, and peace. Amen. Act of resignation to the divine will. O Lord my God, from this moment do I accept from thy hands with burning love and sincere contrition, with a calm and willing disposition, whatsoever death thou shalt choose to send me with its pains and griefs.
