you know, just I was just getting a bunch of compliments and I was like, What the fuck? Like this entire time? Like I had my head down after the show. I was like, Fuck! Like embarrassed when in reality everybody loved it, you know, So sometimes your biggest enemy is yourself, you know, self doubt.

spk_1:   0:16
What's up? Everybody hope everybody's safe. Thank you for being back with us for another episode of Open to Evolve. Today we bring you guessed that has traveled the world. He's had the opportunity to see some of the craziest concerts happen all over the place. He's had the opportunity to D. J. Has been the tour manager, and more than anything, I think when you hear this story, you're going to see that this individual's just the type of person that jumps in and it's just ready to go. You know, he's excited for the opportunity, and he wants to make the most of it. Funny story about how we actually met was a couple years back. I went with a friend that was getting a haircut, and while I was waiting there, a gentleman came up to me and asked me here you one of the model boys. And once I said yes, we talked for a little bit. And even back then you really saw the passion that this individual had, you know? So I know that has to do with a lot of what he's done. And it's gonna be cool for you guys to hear a story of a no pass away and really accomplishing what he has. So you want to go ahead and introduce yourself? Johnny,

spk_0:   1:08
They have a sub. Guys, my name's Johnny or Jonathan, which everyone you want to call me. But Yemen. It's crazy to be on this little part cast of yours. We go way back. We as he said, man, I used to see these guys open up all the time. You know, like for all the shows, I used to go to a lot of rage. Was it like where the venues was book on us? I always see these guys point man. So just I looked up. I looked up to him to man, they were If you were great, they're great. So this is kind of cool. Health care is just the lines, even people

spk_1:   1:39
that really is man I did. You meet certain people for a reason, you know, and I think like it's been cool. We I know we talked here and there throughout the past couple of years, man, but, I mean, the respect I'll pay for, you know, like everything you've done, man. And it's been cool to see because, um, you're gonna dive into your story right now, but literally from one day to another From when we talked earlier, you told in your life changed, man. So I really incitement start off their man. So tell everybody what you do is you don't explain kind of what your background

spk_0:   2:07
is. Uh, my background. What I do like like, job wise. They're just like, like, anything like, everything

spk_1:   2:16
Be interesting. Far so I like hockey center for everybody listening. When I asked him, I'm like, man, what you doing this? He ran through every possibility he could be doing with his career currently right now. So how would you sum it up, man? Like, what would you say you provide to this team that you're a part of?

spk_0:   2:32
Uh, what would I provide with this team I provide? May I just team? I just love the teamwork. What I provide is I give back that energy that's given, you know? So when it's all love, I'm gonna give love back this all work. Can I get work back? You know, like it's a nonstop grind. So you just got a kind of, like, just kind of like your yourself in there. You know, you gotta be ready at all times Pretty much so. That's because I'm pretty much the only every job there is in the music industry. I mean, there's so many jobs, but I've done a good a good handful of it, you know, from being tour manager, stage manager, keyboard tag, fucking based tech, drum, tech, guitar tech, like all those things like and keep in mind, I didn't know how to do any of this beforehand cracking the music initially. So it just kind of like just learned it from watching people like I told the other time, like trial and error. Just just preparing men's is preparing yourself, just being ready and not being afraid of family. You know, like I keep saying, trying There's biggest teacher man England's. Once you learn some, you're gonna yeah, it is, gets like repetitive, you know? So I kind of like it's stuck in your head. You get better. Did you move? That's next thing. We'll just keep watching. Watch patterns, just work. Like how pretty much.

spk_1:   3:57
I mean for the people listening. Jonathan's down from this a lot, quite a bit, and the reason I'm gonna say that is, I think a lot. A lot of times in our lives, we're so scared to jump and there's opportunities that are presented to us. There's opportunities that might come up, and we really don't act on your second guess, and I have got a single with him to kind of get a little bit more of how everything played out. And at 19 years old, he was presented with an opportunity that put him in the spotlight, where he was going to be traveling, being a tour manager and handling and doing. And he said it. One thing is like I'm brand new to the industry and I'm meeting with all these people that are professionals, and I've been around for a while, you know, but set out once again and I want him to explain is that he never shied away from it and dove in and was like, Hey, whatever happens, happens. But I'm gonna learn through it. So you're doing this for one of the megastar, um, artists in the world by the name of Khalid Man. And for me to think of that at 19 years old, stepping into the spotlight like that man, how do you not shy away to take on the type of responsibility?

spk_0:   5:00
Have you not shy away? I mean, I for me, The reason why don't shy away is I give it a lot, Teoh, my parents man. Um because I've I've noticed, like, I've always been this very ambitious striven like, dedicated person, you know, like when I want something like, I'll work to it, you know? And I've always loved music too, But yeah, I give a lot to my parents because growing up, man, they were always grinding, always, always working. So I feel like, psychologically as a kid, seeing that go up, it just It just stuck to me, you know? And they Yeah, they worked ass off. Man and discipline. The discipline equals freedom, you know? So these guys were enjoying the rewards from discipline. You give me Yeah, So it's like without discipline. You, you lose a lot. Oh, I feel like that's That's a big part, too. But yeah, my family just seeing the discipline they had and teaching that to me, growing up as a kid into the guy I am right now and doing what I'm doing, I definitely would not be able to do that. I would definitely shy away if they weren't there telling you that you are just seeing and do what they do is teaching now. So it's like when you see an opportunity like that, man, you have to take it. You got to be ready and just not be scared because you'll definitely regret it in the future. Opportunities like that, it's like you like them. I should have done this. You know, it's like you want to be like cold. I don't want to be on my deathbed and be like Crocker did this. I could have been there. Whatever you give me, like

spk_1:   6:41
that's cool. Yeah, I said it before, like you don't want to look back and have regret. I think that's the worst thing that can happen in life. Is looking back and knowing that there's really not much you can do about it, cause that's I passed, you know? Yeah. So you're saying the discipline of your family showed your men, and I think a lot of the time when you're when you're ambitious or for the people that are listening whether you're our age and it was you that was ambitious or your apparent Now it's a very dangerous because you're saying I've seen some people be ambitious and kind of the family will shadow shrinking their ambition by saying, Hey, you know what? Maybe shouldn't think that because you might get disappointed. It sounds like in your century money

spk_0:   7:20
that you say that actually, yeah, I'm sorry. Oh, what? It's funny you say that, actually, because my dad, like, I used to be a mover before all this, like I had on my fresh air like shitty jobs and, uh, usually like a dishwasher. Used to be a janitor at UPS witness that make a gym. I used to be a maintenance guy, so I was a mover. I was getting conflict steady money, you know. So when I told me I had this opportunity and ah, another thing, I didn't tell you was that I didn't get paid for a while, you know, I was pretty much like an entered, Like the way I was working like I was, I was gonna pay like I was. I was still getting said, you know, I was taking care of that hotel, everything. It wasn't what was it bad? It was a terrible was really great. But my dad was telling me that he didn't want me to go. He's like, Like what? If things don't work out like all that money you say, But it's gone. It's wasted like it's a big risk, You know, this and that I saw it is a big opportunity, despite the fact that it looks like a risk to your may feel like it. But like something my gut was telling me. You know, like my intuition. It's telling you like a man likes something new. You gotta try like I keep saying You wanna throw yourself new things now is it on fuck and do what you always say, You know? Well, you've been wanting to do. We've always dreamed up being around the people we've always wanted to be around. You know, it is like I I had to prove my dad wrong now. And he told me like a while a while later, you play. I just want to apologize. And I was like, a projects where he's like. But you were. I remember I told you that I don't want you to go out stopping you, But you just I forgot how that conversation went there. But it was just I felt crazy. Might that wrong? Because he was always My dad has always been very strict and like, you know, I kind of like, grew up. Not I'm not. My dad was in the military, but he, uh he always worked with law enforcement and got his own security company. So that was like a thing that I grew up. It was just very strict and very like, four more things have to go the way he wants you to go or the way he's been through, you know? So I didn't want to seem to go a different route, I guess. But I just I paid my road man play. That's just had a I was like, Fuck it. I want to do this like this is big. I've never traveled around the States like that way, being able to go to all these venues and should it like it's it's amazing that, but you got to work. That's meeting new people. But you have it. That was 1000 thing with my dad, him almost stopping me from succeeding in my life

spk_1:   10:04
having I'm sure looking now, you know it's and to give parents credit, cause there was a couple of things, the same thing. And I think that what they're trying to do is keep us safe at the end of the day, right? And their experiences only gonna go so far, right? So, like, if you present an idea, probably like what you did. I'm sure the conversation kind of one like I'm getting the opportunity to go across the States on this crazies concerts. And he's probably like, uh, what do you mean? You know, like it probably seems unreal to them, you know, and process all that. But I'm glad you got you took the opportunity in that man and glad that you proved them wrong in the sense that it all worked out for you. And I think for everybody a couple of things that you said was you took a risk on yourself by taking an internship. I mean, how many people wouldn't have done that, man like, how many people would hide away the moment that, like, you're not getting paid on? Ah, never mind. I don't even want

spk_0:   10:46
to listen it. But the other thing is to a man like this, that's more. Let's my brother, you know, like I was, I was still going to do with regard groups like I was doing. Asking for money like that alone was like Like I'm like, do thank you for even like asking you to do this like it was the biggest compliment of my life. Are big ups to my big bro man

spk_1:   11:05
now for sure,

spk_0:   11:06
even though I'm older than hand. But I love a man, that's that's my brother. You know,

spk_1:   11:13
I agree. And I think like you're saying he believed in you just to kind of clarify. A little bit of what I was trying to say is that when there's an opportunity that's presented to you, it's not always gonna make sense. And in your situation I think a lot of people would have shied away from it. But the fact that you actually dove into it, you know, and you took the opportunity. You took the chance on yourself. It really paid off for you. And it benefited you in the long run. And look, look where you're at now, you know. But as mentioned when we go back to him believing you, I think when you give me the back story of how all this happened, you told me you weren't the best friend. You weren't the closest friend. But you were still picked them, presented with this opportunity. And I got a feeling that that has to be because of the passion you show from music. So how do you think that comes along, man? Like, why do you think people see the passion that you have for the music,

spk_0:   11:59
Don't you? Just because I know the person who I know who I am, you know, the type of person I am with music and the way I talk about it, you know, like when I talk about it like I know I saw him passion, you know? And you could tell when you talk to anybody and you tell him what they love or what they do, and they start going into it and they just start talking, You're off. That's because you're passionate. Yes, you know. So when I first when we first met up, we click immediate, because because of music because of music, so he talked about is the way I talk about it, And that's how it is a music industry to like all other people. I meet the band members on me, all the guitars, Weber seniors like artists like Passion. It's the creativity like it just brings out, like so much, so much. Love the people. Now it's It's while it's so strong

spk_1:   12:47
and I mean to kind of day back a little bit, cause I mean, we talk about it once again. It's really important who you surround yourself within the vibe you're getting and, you know, like, were you devoted your time? Because if I'm not mistaken, man, like he blew up, you had the opportunity to grow your career. But it seems like a group of you kind of came out of that timeframe when everything was happening. Everybody was kind of. I saw some photographers come out. Some models come out there was a couple of like singers and rappers, like not everybody getting huge exposure. But it seemed like that group really pushed each other. That was kind of around back then in that whole passel time. I don't know if everybody kind of knew each other, but it seems like when the rise started happening, you started seeing a lot of attention come so passing a lot of people who started spreading.

spk_0:   13:30
Yeah, man, I mean, it's just I feel like once people saw the way his drive was, you know, you kind of like even with me, like people. Once I started doing what I was doing, like people asking, How do I do this like, how did you learn this? You know, it's just I got said You just gotta throw yourself out there. That's why he did. That's what have you are are the Arctic. Excuse me. That's what every artist, every other artists does as well throw themselves out there. You got to be confident in yourself. You have to believe in yourself. That's the main thing. I mean, yes, it's kind of like it. I just got really believing yourself. You gotta be confident with what you do. So seeing so for them to see him do that. You know, I kind of, like, motivated them, which is good, like I'm all for it, man again. Like I said, I'm off. I'm all for growth. I love to see people go.

spk_1:   14:21
So tell me, let's let's go through the timeline, then then, um, you're getting this opportunity. You say yes. Um, and you kicks off right so well on your first tour. And how's everything going for you, man? Like, Are you adjusting like houses there, Moments where you're stressing out may because it's a lot to take in or like how it's going for you.

spk_0:   14:40
Uh, you know, has its ups and downs. You know, it's life, though, you know everything. Everything comes a struggle. But if there wasn't struggle, you know that there wasn't really the reward. Want to be a satisfying because it be too easy, you know, so sometimes when things get hard, the reward is is so worth it. Like you, it's almost relieving, and it takes like a big weight off your shoulders most of the time. But it was a big adrenaline rush moon. It's a big adrenaline rush when you first start because it's it's It's a whole new world that you just step in, you know, shit, you know? So you're just kind of like, oblivious to everything. Like with the foot. I'm not oblivious for just, like clueless. It's a lot, but it's beautiful at the same time. Because I never went through all those shows. I definitely would not be who I am or no, I again. I know that sounds cliche, but it's Fox Mandel. Pressure makes diamonds like you. When you go to this year, you become the ship literally.

spk_1:   15:38
It's true. You

spk_0:   15:40
have to, man, you have toe. It's like like the same thing was fitness. I love to incorporate sinister life because it's like if you don't take care and solve liquor, your body's gonna go down, you know? So you got to make sure you're giving yourself love as well. So if you keep working out what you love, there's there's no doubt that it's gonna grow Has to give you water plant you give. You know, sunshine every day is gonna grow. It has to you know, you don't give it that sunshine You don't give me no water. It's not gonna grow. You don't give yourself any challenges. You're not gonna grow. You got You gotta put yourself to shipment. And I'm not saying go stress yourself out and give yourself all these things I do. You know, like I'm just telling you, like, learn toe, challenge yourself to a certain extent, no one to stop and know how to apply pressure and winds or by pressure, you know?

spk_1:   16:32
And I think the way I see that is step out of your comfort zone. Yeah. Yeah,

spk_0:   16:37
that's that's the big thing. Step out of your comfort zone. Definitely get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

spk_1:   16:45
You're not gonna grow If you're staying in the situations that you're comfortable that you're familiar with because that becomes habit, it becomes repetition. And you, you know, you just anything with emotions. You know, before you filled out, your are gone and you think

spk_0:   16:58
it easier. You just you just get smarter. You know what to avoid. You know what to do. Want to do you know?

spk_1:   17:04
So talking about the fitness man, we talk about discipline that you mentioned that a couple of times. Did that play a factor into like you building that muscle of, like, I'm gonna be disciplining whatever I say I'm gonna commit

spk_0:   17:15
to. Yeah. Uh, definitely. But I like once. Like once I committed to fitness, you know, like it was like I was on it. Like no one told me like, Oh, hey, you got a week up. You gotta go Where guy we gotta eat. You got to take your your vitamins or whatever, but And with fitness, like, I just taught me a lot with life too. Like Teoh always plan. You know, like you plan your workouts for the week, right? Find your meals. You measure everything. You're measuring your way. Whatever it is your goals is it's the same thing with life. You know, like like when you're going to school that you're studying, you're getting ready for a test. Same thing with working knowledge. You're figuring out your week skin your nails, done family. This is just like like with work too. Like me. Like when I'm working like I get my suitcase ready the day before. I'm not gonna lie, though. There are times where I packed last minute actually, do it a lot very often, but I do. I do Get ready like one Someone tour, Make sure all my ships packed, You know, because if you don't have it packed, then you miss the flight. You're fucked. No. Like you miss a show. Now, I've definitely I've definitely missed the flight. Yeah, it's being ready. So working out definitely caught me being ready because it learned Mito Squeeze the time in throughout my days? No. So I had a when people would be all the squat sometimes, like, now I haven't worked out or having done this, you know? So I had to make sure I did what had to do first, you know? So priorities.

spk_1:   18:46
All right, so for everybody. Listen, I would like for you to kind of give an example a bunch of day in a second, but hope after he talks about this I hope you don't make the excuse anymore that I don't have the time cause you see a lot of people. Maybe that do have. Maybe you're just working a traditional 40 and I'm not saying that's bad, but that does open up a lot more time into a week, right? I think right now, when you explain what your day looks like it's a lot more traveling going from here to place to this place, getting toe hotel. Having voted that, then you your days consumed in a lot of the logistics of how you're gonna get to the Vineyard House, gonna get set up. But you still find a way to work out. So for everybody else, that's as an excuse. Like how for someone that's on the road, the majority of their life and dealing with everything that you're doing, like, how do you still find a way to state bit and make time

spk_0:   19:28
towards again? This is where discipline comes in, you know? So how do how do I squeeze it into my days? You know, while I'm on tour while I'm working, Um, so I plan ahead. You know, like sometimes we get a day sheet or ahead of the week, I'll be like like Okay, let's say I'm going on a week tour like let's say I'm going Australia. So, in fact, my show, you know, it's like a two day trip there, so I got my suitcase getting plain, super entire flag, get drunker whenever watch movies. When there gets a little toe compress You know, that's a travel day. So as soon as you get there, sooner they get to the hotel. Man, I take all my shit out of my suitcase. I organized my stuff in my bathroom. I put like you don't like my little toiletry bag. I put my JB ah, wireless speaker Fucking blast my music. I travel with my supplements to So I put him the little bags all the other night. Most big trucking containers. So what I dio So they get a little I take all my supplements. I take a dry scoop pre workout. It depends how tired of him. I'm really tired. I'll drive. I'm like, OK, else mixed with water. Sip it, Look at Instagram or your music before I go work out like, you know, before the pre kicks in. And if the whole tell Jim is good, it's decent. I'll go in there it is not. Ah, I look for a nearby hotel gym and I will literally make time and go to hotels in for at least an hour. I'll even buy the day passed, but most of the time, like I'll just go to the front and tell him like I'm traveling and we're here for a day. And sometimes I let me work out for free. Sometimes they don't. But I just got a sweet talking, you know? Well, yeah. I mean, like, a soon as I get so tell like when I get that chance, I just I work out. No. Once I'm done, I go he or hang out And the next day is a show. After I'm done with show I mean, after I'm done strong once after. Ah, I'm done with my day. Wake up. I do my morning fasted cardio, which is 10 minutes. So it's like a soon as I wake up men, I just I either drink black coffee that's in my room. Or just drink the pre workout right away. 10 15 minutes. Body weight. Work out in my room, take a cold shower. I take cold showers. I don't think Koch hours reason why there's a lot of benefits for cold showers. It wakes you up, man. It's like a natural coffee for me because it just it literally wake you the fuck up. It seems you're gonna call shar. You're like your blood's running and you know you It's like a little quick adrenaline rush, and it also helps close your pores to. So the house, with your skin so forever, is having acting problems, all that it helps with your skin as well. And it will help reduce after me on your back or wherever it is on your body. But that's it's a good That's a good way to get a day started, especially after work out, you know. So after that, I get ready. I get my bag. I have a tech bag. Have my laptop. Us bees like tools, you know, like my radio, all that stuff. And then I go to the venue and start setting stuff up. I'm not gonna get into that because we'll sit here for hours, but yeah, I set up that way, all set up the whole show. You do the show soon. Their shows Don't we load out as soon as we're loaded out, you go to the next city. Go fly there. We re blessed there for however, you know, but like, that's more or less kind of like, but I squeeze it as little as I can possible. It's actually a lot more, but that's kind of like how my days go, and that's how we squeeze it in with fitness. But again, like we have dynamic schedules. So sometimes I work out at midnight. Sometimes I work out at 6 a.m. and sometimes work out at noon like whenever I get the chance. Really, I just squeeze it in. But it's like here's one thing for everybody that's listening that says they don't have time to work out or schools bothering them or whatever. If you don't have at least 10 minutes to yourself, and I know damn well everybody know has at least 10 minutes because people sit on their phones or watch Netflix or do some other shit, you know, use that time to work out 10 minutes. That's all it is like. And even that, like all you need to work out is what, 45 minutes, That's really all your body needs, but at least 10 minutes a day each day. And if I could do that, you can do that because sometimes I don't even have that. The opportunities even get 10 minutes movie times where I don't have that option. But you know, if I can do it travel world, Get on planes Make shows happen every night and day constantly, like while on jet lag. I think you guys can do it too. So no excuses, man. Please have that discipline, you know, But it's up to you. I'm not gonna force you to do it. You gotta tell yourself.

spk_1:   24:23
I mean, one thing that I take from that is, um, the purple preparation. Right. So it's like that saying, if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. You're doing it in a Spence. I mean, how easy would it be for someone on a Sunday? I'm kind of look out there day, you know? Hey, I'm gonna be doing this and this. I'll probably have some time to work out here and there, but they really don't. And by year, and then by the end of it, it's like, Oh, I'm gonna make time for it. And this isn't that so what you're saying it's not a priority in most situations for them, But in your situation, you're figuring out a way and making sure that you're preparing because it seems like that's something. It's a huge priority for you, but more than anything, I feel like Is that an escape for you? Is that a way for you to kind of, like, maybe everything kind of do your thing?

spk_0:   25:04
They keep me sane, man. And that's another thing I want to add into. It is like, That's my escape. So wake up early. You know, like six AM I know it sounds terrible. You mean you don't think you could wake up at 45678? Whatever however your schedule looks, wake up the earliest when no one is bothering, you know, because I spent your time. So that's why I like to work out early on tour in the morning because no one's bothering me. Instagram's dead. There's nothing going on, you know? So it's just you get like tunnel vision, you know? So as soon as you start doing me to do, like, helps you so that helps me helps me clear my mind. I actually think more clear and just be more vigilant and everything that I do throughout my day kissing on my toes, you know, So working out in the early in the morning, Big Plus, do you want to get if you want to get a win. Wake up early. Early bird gets the worm, you know?

spk_1:   25:59
And I think if you're one of those people that are saying, you don't have time, like I use the future of the screen time app on the iPhone and that gives you a reality check sometimes on, like all on your phone, you know? So if you kind of adjust some things like that and you'll see that most every time might be on you just on instagram or social media, you know, and is trying to buy some time. So making those adjustments will probably buy you the 10 45 minutes that you might need

spk_0:   26:21
to work out. Yeah, man, it's procrastination. This is a big double. Trust me, I'm I'm a victim of it happens me all the time, But I just gotta learn how to control. You know, it took me a lot. Ah, long time toe teach myself not procrastinate. As much as I said Procrastinate. So much, man. Especially when I used to be in school big. I learned from it, you know, it was something I had a fixed. Not another bees. Perfect. So

spk_1:   26:53
and I think I think a big thing that plays into that would be your interest to. You know, not everybody is meant for the book style learning. I'm, I think for you was just may be that in Catterick interests as much, but this clearly country interesting. Also, you're giving your full force. That's something you're really devoting yourself to.

spk_0:   27:13
Yeah, it's, I feel like with, like with books for me. I've I've read books since I was like a kid. I've always read books like the baby books, even, like responds like And then going into actual marbles and just nonfiction fiction. I read all of them. You know, I was I was always like this. Like, curious kid. I was always like tinkering, which should, like, I don't know, I just like to see how things work. No. So I think that's why I was able to do what I do now. Like in the music industry, remember? Like going to shows to have you, like, how did they build that you don't like

spk_1:   27:45
Jacoby runs, you know? Yeah. Yeah, for sure, man. So let's and then to give guy to give everybody a little bit more of ah, picture of like what your life looks like man. And I've I've seen it at a smaller scale. It is difficult to stay disciplined when you're around the lifestyle that you're around in the sense that you're around these artists, your around concerts, you know, you're around time that people are out there having a good time trying to enjoy themselves. But when you're behind scenes and you're working for the music, you gotta be disciplined. But you're gonna make sure that show goes on. You know, you gotta make sure you don't get caught in a lot of what's happening around you to make sure that everything's working the way it should now understand. For me, it was at a small scale cause I've had experiences with some of the opacity shows, some city things like that and then being a DZ within that. But for you doing it at a world wide scale, men like how how do you not get caught up in everything, man like, How do you know? Cause I mean, you don't get I'm sure it's hard not to get star struck in on that, but it sounds like you were probably way past that. But you've been able to keep the discipline throughout your girls to make sure that you're focused on your job doing the best of your abilities. That

spk_0:   28:49
what you do? I mean, you know, like, I'm there for a reason. You know, like, because other people like you're saying, Like like there's all this shit, Like how my not star struck all these people founds and party. Party. Um, I'm like I said, I'm there for a reason. You know, like my job. I have a job there. I'm not. I'm not on leisure. You get me? It's a lot of people, like we'll see my should and will be there. Wow, You must be living knives. And this is on vacation. And like, like no man like, I'm working, workout, sweating this. Yeah, we have people. People yelling at me now is I love them, but yeah, is, uh, it is just you just got a lot. I kind of live in the moment and keep telling yourself, like wire there and what you do, and it's like for me, like Like what you do is a representation of yourself, you know? So if you work or certain way, people are going to see the way you work, you know? So if you're showing this shitty workouts, Nick, like, no one's gonna want to work with you, you know, or like, I was gonna take you serious. So, like, that's that. That's how I keep my shit together. I'm, like, I actually care about, uh, about not it's not Is that you go things like Eucharistic thing. It's like I care about how how I do things like this is how I want people to see my work. You know, I was on big on, like impressions like every person impressions are very big. So it's like people come to the show. They want to see a nice set up. They don't want to see Cheryl fucked up like wires everywhere. No, I want to be like I like I everybody that worked with, like, we all triple check everything. No, when it comes to, like, sound set like set on stage cables like loose like, you know, like making sure it was a cable around. So people don't trip on cables just just being vigilant of your surroundings. But just yeah, like for me, like the way out, like I would tell their people like I like to me, like colleagues like my president know, unlike the Secret Service. So I've had to make sure everything's safe for him before he goes up on stage, because I want him to get her trick on someone or something. Look up, people look at it in the like what happening? Something is not working, you know? And I think any other person in he's gonna shake in second. When I'm saying, you know, like everybody cares about the job, that's why they're there. Like that's why I'm halfway across the world because I'm here for this job. I wouldn't be here in Tokyo Are Spain or Barcelona wherever you are, you know, of areas of Paris what it's like, you're there for a reason. So you got you got to take life. So here's to you know, not everything's finding games. So for me, like when I'm when I'm on tour like I'm working most of time like, yeah, I'll have a couple drinks here and now, but it's like I don't know, I'm too tired, like go to the club. Sometimes we're to the bar like I just want to sleep because I gotta wake up early and then, you know, it's like I like I like people who say it's early mornings and late nights like that's really have to this for us. Early mornings and late nights, Sometimes you even sleep way sleep on the plane. But it's again. It's it's all worth it. No, that would happen if it wasn't for the struggle, you know? So

spk_1:   32:02
it's nice that you talk about them and I have another guest. Joe sore and he talked about the behind the scenes. And I don't think people give enough credit to everything that you just said, You know, like you said, there's a lot of stress happening, like a the mites gotta go up. This is moving and let it. It's strange that, like there's so much happening in the back of that you guys are dealing with that people don't see. You know, everybody just kind of sees the final product what happened. They really don't know the work that's being put in by the crew that is behind the scenes making come together. So I think that's so that you kind of get to see that perspective and that you're sharing that right now, for people have a little bit more appreciation on what happens in the back. You know, once again on the passion everybody always wants to do what you're doing. But not everybody is willing to do what you do. So for some people, that might have got an opportunity that you did, they might not have the discipline to state committed, you know, the discipline to stay doing their job and not going out for the late nights, cause, I mean, how is it could have you for you to go out one of the club nights, you know? And then the next day, be tired, and then your schedule's gonna drag. And that kind of just pushes everything down. You know, for a snow while effect for making your day horrible, You know, But having the discipline, I think you know what? I got to get up early. I'm gonna be there. I gotta make sure I'm 100% and do what I needed for my team. I think that's what sets you apart from a lot

spk_0:   33:11
of people. Yeah, man is like you need You do what you need to do first and do what you want to do later. Does that make sense?

spk_1:   33:18
Not does.

spk_0:   33:20
Yeah, It's like like you need to have your priorities straight, you know, because I get it, man. Like like when I first started to like, I was, like, for a flick Comb like I would see like people. But close on. Fuck one of the club wild service, like this cool man, like, you know, like, it's it's a cool little thing to go to, like it's fun, like I have gone sometimes, but most the time, Like I have to say no, like, I can't like I'd rather have sleep and meanwhile rested for the next day because it's like, imagine me showing up hungover and like, I mean, I've definitely showed up hung over sometimes. But I'm a trooper, you know? So I make sure shit still happens, And coffee is a big help, but, uh uh, yeah, like this is you got you got like I said you got You gotta be passionate, because if you don't care about it, it's gonna fuck up. So it's like, Imagine showing up and not knowing what the fuck you're doing. Something fucks up like we're gonna who were there gonna look at you? Look at me then They wise this fucking up, you know? So it's like you gotta You gotta make sure shits on point.

spk_1:   34:19
It's fine. Because I wanted I always said, I say that's a lot of the fun, because, like, I don't want people to get it Confuses. I like to enjoy myself to, you know, But I think the big thing is knowing when to say yes. I want to say no. And if you are going to say yes being responsibly no to Yeah, that s exactly what I don't

spk_0:   34:35
like. I don't again. I know your limits. Find out where you can and can't do like, but if you know damn well something tell you like I'm not gonna make it. But I want to go and then, you know, wake up. You use it. A lot of you calling some shit. Yeah. Don't dio e all these missed calls there. It was like, Hey, what the fuck is going on? Where you are? You next? You know someone's knocking your hotel bar. I have been through the failure many times. Man is it hasn't always been perfect. Not always peachy. It's there's been some fuck ups. I'm not perfect. But again, try on air. It's That's that's why I'm able do what I can do because I just learned from it, and it sucks. But you learn. I've been embarrassed. I've embarrassed myself a long time.

spk_1:   35:26
We live in, you learn, right? He living you learned about making sure that you do learn from that mistake. Caught me

spk_0:   35:31
slipping one. So what, bro?

spk_1:   35:32
Yeah. What happened? Yeah, I think it's It's about enjoying life or you got enjoyed. My got to get just you got You gotta have that bounds when I think just sometimes life takes you too much store. You're enjoying it. Use side of basing. But if you find that natural balance, I think that's your honor. It is? Yeah. I feel some people, sometimes in two disciplines of the point with and I'm enjoying anything and you know, something can happen. I'm

spk_0:   35:58
not like that, you know, like you said, balance. It's all about balance. Like fucking damn! I lost my train. Thousands stay. So I like backing you, man. I like talking. I'm, like, all over the place. So for what other people that. Listen, I just got a lot of say I've been cooped up in quarantine, but yeah,

spk_1:   36:20
for a man, they're there for you guys to express your opinions, man. So it's definitely We've covered quite a bit, man. So I want to know, man, I'm curious because I've had a couple of moments, like, for example, being on stage and playing for people. That was, like, an old shit moment. Like, I'm really doing the street, you know, like after a lot of people told me it wasn't gonna happen. So I'm curious, man, What was your Oh, shit like this is really happening. I'm here. You know, when you've experienced throughout this crazy trip that you got so far,

spk_0:   36:46
there's but there's been a lot of oh, shit moments a lot. There's, like so many likes. I'd probably won't even remember half a bowl unless, like, it's just unless I run into it while I'm talking about something else. But, um oh, fuck moments and see of you. Oh, fuck. Moment for me was there's a lot of me going to Asia was in a moment, almost getting kidnapped in Bali was out front moment. Okay. I mean, I felt like I was being kid. I'll say it's, um somebody Time, um, at deejaying was in Oh, fuck moment to like, opening up. That was definitely crazy. Doesn't does a big experience of my life, and I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I wasn't scared cause I was another big thing. That definitely gave me a lot of anxiety before actually doing it, you know, because I've I've never played for that many people in my life, So that was a big oh fuck moment for me to that I never thought would happen so soon.

spk_1:   37:48
Let's talk about a little bit on that. I mean, I can share some feedback there also, but it's stressful. You must say no knowing that everybody's looking at you all attentions on you, your lives for everybody you know, like you gotta be on point.

spk_0:   38:02
It's another adrenaline rush to, you know, another thing that really like made my hair stand up. That just it was kind of like Crazy explained, because my heartbeat was like right before the set, like my heart was pounding like pounding, and I was talking. There's a lot of people out there was that meteor, you know? So, like, 1400 people or $1500 a cap? Yeah. 1500 people. Fucking. I had had a let down a couple shots of Jameson to calm me down a bit. It Well, there are cool. I'm like, I'm waving now. Like I feel good. I'm, like, loose. I'm on stage. The first time teasing was in San Antonio, that was 1000. I'd started jumping on opening for the rest of the tour, but yeah, Do you like just walking up there? And then as soon as you walk up on stage because people are just angry, you know, like, you know how, like before the show starts before the opener goes on, people are just waiting there by the people were walking in. So there's already a full time people when I walked on stage, and they're they're just standing there, you know? So when they see someone walk on a T, states are like, Oh, fuck, like what's gonna happen? You know, if you black legion, because I'm just they're like, all right, uh, like, I just started playing my music and it was just like All right, cool. I forgot what I started off with, but I was like, so nervous, man, like, I just I did the entire set, right? I think there's a couple of fuck ups. I think I fucked over two or three times. Like they were like, huge fuck ups. But they're, like, most black. After the set, I was like, you know, like all right, cool. Like I did my side like there was, like, some choose and Khalid went on and then after that, you know, I was also stage managing while I was deejaying, So I was doing other. I was also ah, drum tech and the guitar tech and the keyboard touch. So I was doing all these jobs while I was teaching as well. Keep in mind. So a rat submission was done. I'm loading out and the meat angry. Ah, line is being formed in the barricade, you know, so they can see is breaking down all the equipment And then, like someone's like young thing like, yo d j like d j. I don't have a name. You know, I was just on stage like blue lights off playing on my S. Evans. Yeah, these guys are like young d J and like the stagehands removing stuff next to me and then a man, I think they're calling you. But didn't you open up? And I was like, I was like, Yeah, he's like, yeah, all the kids in front of calling you And, like, you know, come here. What's that? Like? We get a picture. So next. You know, all these people in the liner asked me for a picture. I'm just like, Wow, that's crazy. Like, I've never had that experience. So it was kind of, like, weird to like Have people ask you for a picture, You know, everybody's like, Yo, dude, your site was amazing. Like I loved it like you definitely like. Hype is up for Cruz. You know, just I was just getting a bunch of compliments and I was like, What the fuck? Like this entire time? Like I had my head down after the show us. It's like fuck, Like embarrassed when your reality everybody loved it, you know? So sometimes your biggest enemy is yourself, you know, self doubt, and that's what fucking up, you know. But I didn't realize I was like, Fuck, Do you like I'm actually like people fucking this. You know, like people like it. So I just I kept doing it, and little by little, man, I got more and more confident His next unalis like dancing and should look and using the my but yeah, people fuck with that. You know, you get used to it, it becomes a habit. You know, the more more you keep doing, so if you get repetitive, you get better. So I got it, and I was getting a lot of people coming up to me telling me that they're impressed by myself. Tell me they enjoyed it like it was definitely wild, but terminal when I played in terminal five in New York, That was crazy feeling too.

spk_1:   41:39
You haven't given how some crazy venues underneath because I remember

spk_0:   41:42
Terminal five days. A lot of DJs. I remember when I was a kid, I used to like like, on YouTube. I would see DJs like Life's at Terminal five years, suction like, Oh fuck. And I'm like they're on stage playing, huh?

spk_1:   41:54
Have a suspense, a real man like it, and then

spk_0:   41:57
lose the real that knows it's like holy should I was that was a really stressful to work for me to, though, because there's some nights right. I want a deejay because I was just tired from, like, actual work and d j You have

spk_1:   42:12
to have energy up there. You can just be like eso something for my

spk_0:   42:17
before my side on this. Let's take it up like a just

spk_1:   42:24
that energy takes out a lot. Yeah,

spk_0:   42:28
Like I said, keep in mind like I'm up earliest foot and on the last one week and I slipped out, I like I would party for an hour or whatever having longer my set time was that,

spk_1:   42:41
Yeah, a lot goes into a man and I because, like what you said, Andi, think it's another one of those balance things like I was my own hardest credit there, you know, like when you put a lot of pressure on yourself. But I hear that a lot from the people that are normally like high performers, cause I think you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself, so that kind of makes you perform at a higher rate than you normally would. But at the same time, sometimes you don't give yourself enough credit about what trash that accomplishing so kind of finding that balance, you know? Okay, I put in the work, but also letting yourself enjoy those moments when you you do what you're supposed

spk_0:   43:11
to do. Yeah. No, definitely. I definitely did. Ah, live. Live in the moment. You know, I definitely did put myself and I was, like, just there, you know, not worrying too much about Like, uh, because then there's there's some time maybe I'll be fucking forth. I'll be like, I like my oboe accidentally hits the fucking vinyl because they're They're motorized finals. It will hit the ocean. And I was no people right off book those lit up like like, unintentional scratch E.

spk_1:   43:37
Sorry on hard. I was a little worse because we're using these at the time when it was happening. So he just gets absolutely no, and they would stop. And then you would hear the 11 or kind of cool it, uh, next time, you know? Definitely. Nope. Experiences, man. Like it was all worth it. And I'm sure, like everything you've done has been some crazy stuff, man. But I think that's just another one of your stories were Hey, you dove. It's with men The experience running up in there, the preparation running up in where you wanted it, but hate gov and you live with what? The results. But you kept growing and make sure that you that you were doing it for a reason, you know? And I was for the best, and it was for you to grow. And the next steps that you were gonna be taken. Yeah, no, man. So let's say you've clearly had a bunch of experiences, Manu. You've gone through allow you've been all over the world. So let me ask you, man, going back to 19. So where you're at now? Like I'll have you changed as a person. Like when all this started when you got this opportunity to what you see now, how do you feel? You developed yourself as a

spk_0:   44:37
person. I mean, every time I look back, because there's especially during this time that we're living right now. I definitely have times, like reflect on everything I've done and been through, but I've I've come in like I've grown so much like I surprised myself sometimes causes this. I put myself in situations that I like don't need to, but I still end up doing it and succeeded. I'm like, Wow, you know, So sometimes I feel like I get addicted to just learning the things, but I think that's why I've, like, been able to grow so much, you know? But I'm I mean, if you I'm proud. I'm proud of myself. My parents told me they're proud. You know, my friends don't proud, you know? So I'm on. I'm gonna keep working. On what? Keep growing because, honestly, man, like, I'll be honest with everybody else listening. You, um I'm still finding, like, out myself. You know, I'm still learning a lot new things about myself. A lot, a lot of new things, you know, Like my life isn't perfect, you know? So, like, I'm still finding out better ways to do things my life, fixing certain situations, you know? So it's like I feel like everybody has their own path. So you shouldn't let what happens outside of you make who you really are. You know, like you, you still gotta be your true south. Because, um, one thing that I was actually talking to my friend before I was talking you, and he told me that I'm like I've changed a lot, but I'm still the same person in a good way. You know, I'm still the person that he told me that I was, like, still humble. You know that I still care about people around me, Like I still talk to a lot of my friends from all possible. You know, I still keep in contact with them and they and it's always mad love when we link up like, yeah, we don't talk as much every day What it's like. We're adults now, you know. So where we all live busy lifestyles. So it's like this. This is just the meat. It's just like a what you call it. What's the fucking word? It's like a connection, you know, like a little you know, that that painting really touch like two fingers like that. That's how I am with my friends, like we just have a connection like we're not touching. But the lightning in the middle is what connects us. Even though we're so far away, we're connected. It's always and I love, you know, but like, yeah, like I'm a keep growing. I'm so the same person. But there's a lot of things that did change me and how how I I do things, you know, I was just I mean, I really don't know. It's kind of hard to explain. I can't see myself. I wish I could see myself in third personal. I

spk_1:   47:17
think he did a pretty good job about it and a couple of things that I want to touch on the table. The first thing man is you've accomplished a lot more than a lot of people will. But what you say is like a I'm not done yet. I'm still developing myself, like there still room for me to grow. You know, there's still things I want to try it like And I think that's one thing that I try to tell people is Don't set a ceiling like I ran into like, for example, and one of the people that I interviewed is, ah, physical therapist. One of the things that she went through was that her only goal in life was to be that a physical purpose. When that happened, there was a void because the goal wasn't bigger enough in that, you know, and she had to regroup and find like what's next for me. But that was her advice is like I focus so much on that one thing that once I hit it, there was really nothing more, you know? So I think for you, what's dope is that you haven't gotten complacent and you continue to evolve yourself. You continue to look for the new thing, to stay hungry and stay disciplined. So I think that's dope, man. And then the second I heard you say it was the ego. That's a huge thing in life, man. I think no matter how good you are at things like being humble and being respectful where you came from and I'm never feeling like you're above anybody else is something that's really gonna take you far in life. You said perfectly on that man. I see you interact with everybody. It hasn't got into your head. You want to get back, you know, And I think those are the people that really stand out and those with people you kind of want to succeed. You want to see succeed in life?

spk_0:   48:37
Oh, yeah. And so are the things I want a real quick, um, that I just thought about it was ambition and being open minded. Those were 20 things that definitely change me being open minded. You know, you just got it, like, especially in this industry, man like, you gotta have an open mind with people like you gotta be open and new challenges. You gotta be willing to throw yourself out there. You know, like I said, I don't know if you don't put in the effort. Nothing's gonna change with yourself. Like nothing like you have to throw yourself out there. You have to be open minded. It doesn't work out. Keep going, going. Stay open minded. Open to new challenges and just grow yourself. You know, gotta keep involving and that. And that's being ambitious to man. You got. You got to combine those two. You combine those two. That's ah, you don't get almost become unstoppable. You know,

spk_1:   49:26
man, And I think it's one of those things that you don't fail to. You decide to stop, right? So as long as you keep going, I mean there's gonna be a way that you're gonna figure out that solution. So I think what you're saying is when when you're open minded, don't be scared of things. aren't the way that you normally doing be open to trying different things. And I think sometimes it leads you to a path that was better than the fact that you currently on. So I think that's great advice, man. And like you say, being in the industry, man, what was What's catch you off guard? As far as that may be what you expected to happen to what your actual experiences have been,

spk_0:   49:57
Uh, what was caught me off guard? Uh, honestly, this is the first thing that comes to mind every time I hear that. Just his music industry is such a small world like you see a lot of the same people everywhere you go, like all over the world internationally, especially during festival season. You'll see this. You run into the same damn people that sometimes like, even like during Lola, produces season like during that festival season. Like, you know, a lot. There's a lot of big acts on there, and every time we go like you know, they're following the tour. Is the festival tour as well? So it's like you're like in Mexico and then go down so South America and you go up, you know, just to see the same people. Hey, what's up? What you do today is I'll cool is like you're in Australia. Like I said, What's up to him, like two days ago and and fucking in New York or something? You know, I was weird, but yeah, that was something that threw me off Z Such a small world. But it's cool, You know that There's still a lot like there's a lot of people don't get me wrong, but it's just I don't know. I like tripping out from the When I first started.

spk_1:   50:55
Everybody's been so far that you've mad, pretty accepting, giving advice and stuff like that are when you say it's going at the end of the street.

spk_0:   51:02
Oh, dude, yeah, um especially have, like, anybody that work with my tour family. Like I give so much credit to them two men that they've taught me almost everything I know as well because, like, I would always ask questions like I told you, really, like, I'm very curious, like tinkering with shit like, How does this work for? How do you do that? How do you do that? Like there's one night where I didn't lights for the opener and single poor And our lighting designer, Jonathan. He kind of looks like me. And his name is Jonathan too. So, like, we just call each other brothers and his last name Comma Rio. So it's like minds gusty and has come around, you know? So it's kind of like thing, but yeah, like he told me how to like you last one time like before we were setting up. He's like, you want to do it during the show. I'm like, Fuck, yeah, you know, like, people asked me and I'm just like, yes, Like like, what? Am I gonna get the opportunity to do that? You know, like, I might as well do it like I'm not gonna lie. It wasn't perfect, but like I was over here fucking doing lights and this big consulate was a grand and made to Consul all you're doing the lights, Ishan people in Cartagena like like you have so much control. It's crazy.

spk_1:   52:06
That's though once, then it raises. It's just crazy to me, man. Like, drop this Really? It's cool, cause you it's consistent, man. Your personality on the way you carry yourself the way you multi decisions, like it's all consist a minute. It clearly shows, like why you're at where you're at, You know, like it wasn't my fluke. It wasn't by, you know, like a mistake or anything like that. You've got an opportunity clearly, because of the way you see things in the way you try to go about things, man. So mad, respect on everything. And I'm happy where you're at, man. So we're getting paid to the end. So what's your last everybody, man? What? After everything that everything we've covered. What do you really want people to take away from this man? What do you long people walk away after they listen to this? Thinking about what Jonathan advised him

to do? I feel like advice I can give right now is I mean, I'm probably gonna say multiple things. I'm brainstorming a bunch of shit. I'm I had so much good shit. How about you? Um, one thing I will say right now that could probably help a lot of people, especially during this pandemic. Uh, is, you know, im pretty sure a lot of people were going through negative thoughts or drink over drinking. You know, doing drinking a lot or abusing something, you know, some kind of substance. Whatever it is, you know, like if you want to stop, all I can tell you right now is the person you are you can control. You know the only person you controllers you. So you really you have to focus on making yourself who you want to be. You know, whether it's stronger, faster, smarter, more humble, less. You go. You know, whatever it is, you have to discipline your body for your mind. Get up early. Just go. You know, you have to get after it like you like you make sure when you go to sleep you're thinking about whatever it is like. You have to. You have to just get it. Embody yourself. Whatever it is you want. No, Really want some? You have to go get it focused on it. You don't put no focus is gonna happen, you know, and you become You become that person for one small step. You know, one small decision at a time. Don't rush yourself. I'm not telling you like oh, go to start doing all this shape. But by that goal in this by these books. Wake up at four AM Get on this crazy fucking night. No one small step at a time, patients, you know, but just stay motivated. You know, you got to think positive and be around good people. That's another thing to be around. People you are who used her. I'm so you know. So make sure the people in your circle are helping. You know, they're not not behind your back, trying to stab you or some shit like that. That's why you have to keep your circle smart. You know, like like for me, that wilder I got the holder. I got, the more I noticed my circle got smaller, you know, because it's just you're you realize people like true intentions, you know? But, yeah, just be around Good people. Good positive energy. None, like stay healthy, drink a lot of water, listen to good music, like, just do what you need to do, man. Like, there's a lot of things I can say. But I'll just say that for now because I'm keep talking your ear off.

It's cool, man. I think What's a game? And you have given a lot of perspective. You the way you think it's hella dope and on what you're saying. If I could have one last question has we live in a world now that so many people want to tell? You know, there's so many people that want to provide feedback. There's so many people that want to happen but what you're doing in your life and something that you said that set out some music you have control. But you do. Which how could you or do you have any advice for someone? Maybe that's feeling like a lot of negativity or someone that's giving a lot of like You shouldn't do that or you shouldn't pursue that But they just internally they feel like this is something I

will, uh, my advice for people that are, you know, experiencing that right now is just focus on your own front yard. You know your own grass, don't focus on the neighbor's grass or what they're doing. You know, were you When you just focus on what you're doing, it gives you more time to get better at it. When you're giving your attention to that person, they're giving them energy. What are you doing? You're losing it. You know, you're giving your piece of way of yourself. So you need to just focus on your grass and tweak it. Cut it, making sure it's personal. However you want it, you know, even like those. Like people you have to put like on, like on a pedestal. You know, they're always gonna be faulted. Quick week. Ah, Eagle Mathematical or something like kind of sending. What's another word? I don't know. You give me, like like they're gonna be lazy, entitled Maybe, but it's like there they're not perfect. They're far from everybody is nobody's perfect, you know, like sometimes I could be a perfectionist myself, But don't again, like you just got it Like where you buy your own shit so don't like, don't put don't put some like Instagram model for the girls. Like all I want to be like her. Some guy, like, wants to be like this guy or once his music sound better than this. Other artists, you know, like don't worry about what people are doing, man. Like, just really just just know that if you put all the time into what you're doing is going to get good If not better. You know, it cannot things going to get better if you choose it to be. That's up to you. That's your choice. So if you're getting my energy to other people, the that you don't have to tell, you know this

man for sure. And I think it's, um the grass is never greener on the other side. The grass is very water, right? So I think that was a great way to end it, man. So I just want to say thank you.
