Hi there. This is salty E. And the broadcast you're about to hear is something that Spice and I recorded in the car and something bad happened. Technically, we're not exactly sure what, So the sound quality is really a little sketchy, So apologize about that. I just wanna let you know it's nothing wrong with your equipment. It's the sound of the audio is because we had to amplify way up and we didn't. We don't have time to read you the podcast, so we're just gonna present it as it is. You can understand. It's just the quality isn't what we're used to. So sorry about that. Open your podcast anyway. And thanks. Hello, everybody.
spk_1: 0:42
Hello, everybody. Welcome to show a big show. The three d white hot cast, the biggest. Most listened to your podcast that his community in our automobile. So the show we get, we get an exciting one for you
spk_0: 0:56
today. It's a subject that we have
spk_1: 0:57
actually previously covered on three b Y. Back in our
spk_0: 1:02
infancy was a bouncing baby little site.
spk_1: 1:06
Yeah, the bouncing baby years. Nobody was reading it at the time, So we're going back and we're pulling because we've got. We've got several of these stories I think are really worth people hearing it now that we have a legitimate bunch of people website as opposed to, you know, when we first started many readers to readers basically well,
spk_0: 1:31
back in the
spk_1: 1:32
day, I want to explain this right now, but something back in the day in February marks in people May this last year in 2017 we started review project advantages. We started the project two do the propping thing that you know that we d'oh. But rather than going out advertising website, that had pretty much nothing on it. We decided to build Lick first on the series. Since we're not very far from the field of dreams, police were actually not at all. We decided to use the bill. He will things. We built the website first, we put a lot of currency and frankly, a lot
spk_0: 2:24
of the older content has
spk_1: 2:26
never really picked up the readership that we were hoping it would. So we're gonna we're basically going back and picking the ones that we liked. Hey, this
spk_0: 2:37
has this has
spk_1: 2:37
a little bit of gravitas, is has a little bit of light that we could
spk_0: 2:41
potentially forcing. And also nobody has not. Many have yet
spk_1: 2:45
to be. There were also better doing what we do now that we're back. So we're rewriting some of this stuff, too. Making it a little more a little more polished, if you will. So we're actually going back. Were actually killed off old sarin spice red rope. 29. 30.
spk_0: 3:05
Yeah. Listen, 30 less than
spk_1: 3:07
30 views. I mean, nobody has read, so it's not like you're gonna be.
spk_0: 3:12
Oh, Nash. I already read that one of those 29 people. Thank you. I hope you enjoyed it. Yes.
spk_1: 3:17
And you're getting a different version.
spk_0: 3:19
Is a re pressure much. You're
spk_1: 3:20
also getting the hot cast which is being done. Unlike some of the podcast we work. It had a time on some poor part jazz. We got the whole bus ship. I suggest that kind of backlog. So you're gonna be getting a lot of protests over the next couple weeks. Probably to get kind of caught up. We try to do six hours a month of podcasting and that
spk_0: 3:44
doesn't
spk_1: 3:44
I like that much. But when your project for 2030 minutes that really is a lot of it's a lot more. So bottom line is gonna be hearing more protests over a month or so than you probably have in the past from us. So you you're like our podcast. Please subscribe. Please go into stitcher or iTunes or however it is you subscribe and leave us a rating higher it writer of u leave us a rating. It really helps arpa jest Climb up the list of people. If
spk_0: 4:25
you think it's worth listening to, then hope people listen to it. Okay, Today we're
spk_1: 4:28
gonna talk about a subject that is near and you drive. We are on our way. Interestingly
spk_0: 4:35
to work on this project, working again. This is we're walking the lock today just
spk_1: 4:39
sort of move one of the reasons we dovetail. Now, before we go into anything, I must say that any brand names we'd list here we're not sponsored by anybody. These air tools that we like or don't like these are old. We're not We're not sponsored by any we're gonna Mitch, if you store names, maybe certainly going to get you one, and, uh, we're gonna talk about it, but we're not in any way the universe by anybody. The money that we spend on this project, our pockets are hard earned money. So we're actually on our way to harbor. Great. Now, seriously. Caveat Harbor Freight is a store where you could buy
spk_0: 5:22
lots and lots and
spk_1: 5:23
lots of tools for really cheap. And frankly, some of them are just absolutely sure We're just Chinese made. I don't actually buy a lot of tools and hardware break, but we're going to about to harbor rates to buy. We're gonna pick up one of the few things that I like that they had there. That is actually really good. The that is in this case, it's a storage box. They're basically the same thing as an escapee case. Our pelican case were soaring equipment. I actually keep my cameras in these cases and I need one more case, so we're gonna go far, but it's very green. Very well made. Not everything is. And even still, this camera case that I'm picking up is part of our philosophy of taking care of
spk_0: 6:22
the good things
spk_1: 6:23
that you have. We're just part of what we're going to be talking about that. So I'm gonna let her fill you in on the thesis of the article because she wrote it. We'll talk a little bit about specific and why, For example, when we buy the products that we need to buy for our place of string to get on with our project, we're not buying Harbour Great stuff. We're buying the good stuff.
spk_0: 6:51
The heart of this knees is that there is an inherent balance between you've only got so much resource is you need to buy some things for perhaps, But you don't want to spend so much on your preps that you don't have the opportunity to live your life in a valuable way right now because sometime or other emergencies they're gonna hit. They always do. But you're living your life right now to, and neither one of those is worth neglecting, not something you want to go. So the best way to serve both thes masters is to serve both these masters at once. So this is basically about ways that you could enrich your life today and still have useful props by using the same pool of resource is
spk_1: 7:41
one of the keys of that ends to what
spk_0: 7:44
my quality tools
spk_1: 7:46
back. Wallace, you're
spk_0: 7:48
gonna have people need tools. They vitals anyway. And, yeah, you can go to some place like Harbour great and by something that's not gonna last very long. And if it's something that's not very important to your life and you could live without it, sometimes that's a good choice. But if it's something you want to be ableto have around long term, then it is a prep. A swell is being a viper today, so it's worth buying quality.
spk_1: 8:15
For example, here's an example of where buying quality really didn't substitute. I needed to get a a tool that I could take the back off of a device that had the special little You got these little two holes that you got to stick something in the crank it a little. It's a specialized little watchmakers types. I do not need a good quality one of those because I am not doing this very often
spk_0: 8:45
twice a year, inch at the dive computer batteries.
spk_1: 8:49
And it was this should critical, you know, it wasn't something that I can't live without, so I priced it online. The to order was like party box ready. I could get a tool for five bucks Harbor freak that will do the same job.
spk_0: 9:05
So we did put. It
spk_1: 9:06
is, it is gonna kill now.
spk_0: 9:08
You work here? No.
spk_1: 9:09
Do we care? No. This is not mission. And you know, we put it up. I got that. We put it in the drawers. I know where he is. Next time I need it, I won't need it to get her here and again if I don't have it. There are other ways of getting stuff. So this basically need says we get to cancels, We buy good stuff. We buy American,
spk_0: 9:33
and it's usually in water two ways. If they are a lot of things, we buy our manual tools, muscle powered, and those just got to keep in good condition by good quality and keep in good condition and you're good to go. I use a lot of manual tools out of place. It's quiet and convenient, and frankly, bodies were meant to be used anyway. And that's part of my, perhaps, is keep my body working the way it's supposed to be working by getting some exercise, and that's a lot more fun than the gym.
spk_1: 10:06
And by clean. We need keep the rest off of him. Keep him stored separately. Store part so that they don't fall over. And Nick and Masses Keepem organized and she rushed off. Oil limit. You need thio, whatever it takes. Yeah, I can't. There are several different plans of tools that are American made. People say you can't buy American. That is not true. There's several companies that they good quality in tools. And yes, they are market. What? They're better. They have a lifetime guarantee from a company that's been in business in America for 100 years.
spk_0: 10:44
That means your lifetime, not tools like done.
spk_1: 10:47
It's gonna outlast you. Take care of. You know, people who have nasty, horrible problem tools rusty, And that's because you're leaving it out. Not
spk_0: 10:57
the hand will fall off. You know, there's all kinds of stuff that goes on with the cheat gardening tools, at any rate, because I tried that route before I went to this plan. That's one of the reasons I'm sure it enhances your quality of life right now is it's a lot less annoying to use the tools what you're doing work all right. The other approach is when we use power tools. We went with a AA battery operated power tools, whatever possible. And we get them all with interchangeable batteries there, all of a set that could all use the same batteries. So we have a the I got a big old bucket of charged up batteries of the right sort that will run spending of the power tools I regularly use.
spk_1: 11:43
Okay, Way. Have to throw out a cab. Yeah, caviar. We actually have two sets of power tools against Superbad. One of them is Black and Decker. They're heavier duty there. 18 and it's It's relatively good, but it za consumer level. It's not professional level.
spk_0: 12:11
It's what we started by purse before really having to think about.
spk_1: 12:15
We had to get started. We had projects we had to do. We could afford it at the time. Spit a lot of money. We needed several drills. String cutters. We needed a true treats tools. We need a battery powered chains off. You know, all this stuff. It was the only set up that hat. It was the best rated of any of the setups that had all the tools. You need it
spk_0: 12:42
and could afford a ton.
spk_1: 12:45
That rater on I've bought a corporal. Good drill. I've got a regular droll humor. You will use a hammer girl very much right now, but we're going to in future, and I got him a set are really good. Deal. Got walking. 18 gold fuel, which is there? Better set. Syria and the fuel system has over 100 different kinds of tools in their professional levels. Was kind of cool. Tools of contract. The batteries are huge. They're long lasting. Dan. So this is what we did. Now, keep in mind, we are are place does not have electric And who knows if it ever will? We haven't run it in yet, and we're gonna be It's all. So we're stopped. Then we're gonna see how we get along. We built it so that the cabin is we actually put in a bunch of extra windows in the cabin to increase the air. Well, to keep the cooling possible. And, you know, we're gonna give it to me. Oh, I will get right. I'm probably gonna run the electrical wires before we eat walls. It's up. The mother will actually bring in the electricity. Is yet to be
spk_0: 14:00
seen. We, at any rate, we're gonna run it with TOBEL. So Weaken brought it off sources,
spk_1: 14:06
right? We're gonna put it. We're working. But all of this stuff requires us to be able to do things.
spk_0: 14:13
It's not over yet.
spk_1: 14:15
Our carpentry still skills are basically
spk_0: 14:20
pretty close.
spk_1: 14:21
Yeah, I mean, we could be together, guard
spk_0: 14:26
build garden boxes and potato bins. And that's that's
spk_1: 14:30
about the cancer. I mean,
spk_0: 14:34
that wasn't even carpentry. And that was fencing fire. Palin's it walk in its together.
spk_1: 14:38
It's carpentry,
spk_0: 14:39
right? Still together, years later. So against its carpentry. And I built some
spk_1: 14:43
of those pewter task type things. And, Kemel, you know, you just cannot screw together. I got good. Mostly Bill over, but yeah, so we don't have good carpenters. We have got to figure this out. So we're gonna be collecting up a good set of power tools collecting up. We're going to start building. We're building for the the infrastructure at the place that we need to actually hurt. We gotta build a work. We're gonna buy a work which we're gonna build a out of good quality. I have a work lice on that puppy. We're gonna have it ready to go. We could do it. We're gonna get We were gonna go battery powered off for you know, many reasons, not least of which is the battery power is just much more convenient to use on a job site.
spk_0: 15:39
But also from a prepping situation. It's a lot quieter to use battery operated than use gasoline powered
spk_1: 15:46
that we don't want. We don't want to, depending on generator.
spk_0: 15:52
And as long as you have the means to keep the batteries charged, it's the battery operated stuff doesn't get fouled, get bad gas, get all the kinds of problems to which a lot of liquid fuel burning types of power tools
spk_1: 16:12
Now they're still expense. I mean, Jack should buy. Bye. Get for gas. You still have to keep purchasing batteries because they will give out Caesar lithium batteries. They're very good with 3 to 5 years gone that way. And so we're gonna have we have a battery turn up. So you know as what we're buying. So all of our batteries are on the same agent who provide. Let's say we go by a circuit better part circular saw. We'll buy it with the battery. And so we'll have. This matter will be in your newer than our well we got with our drill.
spk_0: 16:50
We don't bother labeling the age of the batteries because it's not hard to tell us if you start using one. Yeah, I started aging out some of the oldest batteries last year because they just okay, I got five minutes out of that when it's going.
spk_1: 17:05
Yeah, lungs. You know, you had that thing charge and you said five minutes because there's no sense in investing. So yeah,
spk_0: 17:16
battery operated tools that are high quality or manual tools that are high quality. That's one aspect another and probably the simplest and easiest place to start prepping. And it also it's a snow, and it's usually a doesn't annoy. The significant other in the household who is not on the prepping wagon approach as well is just playing by in spares of stuff. You're getting things anyway, or prescription meds. We both talked our positions into providing us a little bit ahead of time. We don't use, you know, schedule a drugs like for being derivative pain killers, stuff like at his condition. Abusive. Yeah, they're not drugs and views. They're no fun. Says
spk_1: 18:09
be some of the marked No, I take it I read it. This is not a fun drag, not something. Oh, man, I really want take five of
spk_0: 18:19
those. So we've talked our positions into giving us a little bit a few months, so quiet at a time. And so when we were run out of about we get a new bottle just like everybody else. But the new bottle goes in the refrigerator and the oldest of the old bottles in the refrigerator gets taken out and used. We've got it time so that we know we're not gonna run past the expiration dates of any of those drugs. And it is enriches your life today because it reduces a lot of those hassles of Oh, I meant to pick up the drugs today, but life intervene or the computer system was down at the pharmacy or yada, yada, yada. You know how it goes. Sometimes you just need to get things done. You don't. This is not an emergency or a hassle in our world, because we know we need to pick up the new one to replace the old one. But we just pull it out of stocks and we're good to go until we can get done. And as long you're disciplined about getting it done, it's not probable. Same deal with food as long as you got a rotation system, you first prepped the easily sword, easily prepared foods that you eat anyway. And you just keep extra of, um and do you get a system so you can put the old ones in the back and take for a Put the new ones in the back and take the old ones out of the front so you're constantly rotating through buildup as much as you could eat. Report. It's old and there you go, get a backup.
spk_1: 19:53
I've said You're not like a fool what she's talking about. You can't hear me, not yeah, way. We're actually just we're We've got to J. Norma's use boxes sitting in
spk_0: 20:09
that place in her house
spk_1: 20:10
that needs to get cleaned out so we can put them up.
spk_0: 20:15
You have been working on getting it cleaned out, and they just enough space with these two giant boxes,
spk_1: 20:21
but they're kind of one of those deals We brought a couple of the big shelf reliance. You go to shelf Reliance Ike again, we have No,
spk_0: 20:31
they're not painted.
spk_1: 20:33
You're not paying us? No.
spk_0: 20:35
Like,
spk_1: 20:36
we just like. And we want a rack for our number for our free stride. Ooh, it's a big long term storage. Yeah, Big for long term. And then we got a rack for our pantry home. Did you
spk_0: 20:57
that there's no long
spk_1: 20:57
term storage? Yes. And we don't want to take them out of the blacks without assembling them, because parts everywhere You have proof. I'm not really sure how we're gonna get this worked out, But actually, I do know I've got this area that needs to be totally cleaned out. I've got a plan for that. You don't need to talk about that on the podcast. Is that
spk_0: 21:27
not exciting?
spk_1: 21:28
That's house there. So we got a place to put up in. We're gonna actually start our rotation system even. And we have not really done this with our 30 years. 40 years, taking your 100 years.
spk_0: 21:47
We're not lasting
spk_1: 21:48
along. We're not last long in these. These things were last. Why? Because we store do that. We do have a few things in our can rack that. We just don't. Yeah, we've actually been times we just said, Oh, are not me just never getting We're going in. I'm just not They're horrible. I don't think we ever You can't.
spk_0: 22:25
Um, sorry to tell you that you may have eaten some of those mashed potatoes. I didn't tell you. I told you had some mashed potatoes and you could eat him up with your lunch. Yeah,
spk_1: 22:39
you know, they probably good pregnant. I don't normally do that. We don't leave very little. No,
spk_0: 22:48
but yeah, we did get rid of all, so
spk_1: 22:50
Okay, so we did. There will, actually, but
spk_0: 22:54
there are things
spk_1: 22:54
like peer reviews are keep some up, but I don't really like he and drinking that much. So, William, but they're usually has bean, but usually five years old. But Indians, that really doesn't matter. They're perfectly good. They haven't lost any of the flavor they started out with which a
spk_0: 23:16
few a few foods do like peaches. It's only you don't do that. Teaches. Doesn't have a pineapple.
spk_1: 23:23
Yeah, really notorious like and peanut butter. You know, we can't rule that, Peter, but I get a couple of years. You don't even really want peanut butter out of date very much because he does start to really degrade is really high that it just doesn't last all that well.
spk_0: 23:42
Fortunately, we eat a lot of it, so we buy as much of it as we can eat before it gets through the expiration date. And that still leaves us with a pretty good supply of peanut butter
spk_1: 23:53
on hand. Right, So I've got a bunch of it, but I've been picking up more and more of you. Tim, gather to number 10 Chan. Oh, great. Tryingto get that as a storage way. I really like that. That type of product that we use several brands and this time I will do so. So, uh, reviews of the stuff.
spk_0: 24:19
I've already got a couple on the website.
spk_1: 24:20
Yeah, I like I like it and I find that very little difference in the tea and stuff. Three grands. So it's almost commodity. I actually think that a lot of morning I haven't checked the lot numbers, but I know
spk_0: 24:37
back in the day, they
spk_1: 24:38
used to be worse about this Not in the survival food industry, really. Just the regular industry of just read labeling stuff with store brand. And I remember back in today I was picked up a bigot. A discount store, save a lot store you remember, save a lot, save a lot. They
spk_0: 25:02
had a
spk_1: 25:03
huge store branch in Eric's action. I picked this up. Wow, that's interesting. And you could see the store brand label was right over. I mean, he slapped it on top of the Hormel label. They didn't even bother taking the old way of it, and it came off the same. It's overrun, and you could just you pick up the Hormel product, you pick up this. This other product, which was 35% cheaper, is
spk_0: 25:30
the head of
spk_1: 25:30
the lot number on it. These came right off saying simply one at the same time. So I don't see that as much as you say that I've never in the last 20 years. Team you're seeing way will take over
spk_0: 25:44
the
spk_1: 25:45
label. But a lot of the time store brands are all there packing plant y Z. So we're on a big believer in in certain off brands. Big believer
spk_0: 26:00
is the birth, you know,
spk_1: 26:02
buy one if you like it. I've also a huge, huge fan of stores. Make commitments to get rid of trans fats like I would. It's just call out all these good Brawley's. They got rid of transplant
spk_0: 26:19
that on the whole store
spk_1: 26:20
just got rid of
spk_0: 26:21
those things were physiological point of you are just not your brand.
spk_1: 26:25
No one got a hell
spk_0: 26:27
of
spk_1: 26:27
a heart attack Shit he loved. It's Matt
spk_0: 26:32
while you sit on the couch Artax
spk_1: 26:37
hanging out. So all right, a little bit of smoking Dhoni transfats and get up off the couch and you're probably likely live Walk.
spk_0: 26:46
It's a great breath Can tell you
spk_1: 26:48
Yeah, Not dying of a heart attack.
spk_0: 26:50
Most of the stuff that we that proper medicine really can't see a thing one about is the chronic diseases that require high level and ongoing medical intervention. And most, most of those are lifestyle in foods. So, yeah,
spk_1: 27:08
um, do you think my
spk_0: 27:10
chest Yeah. Good quality outdoor wear. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Nobody has ever been sad when they needed a raincoat that wearing the raincoat did not feel like wearing a trash bag. So you're not gonna be said you got a good quality One of those or that your boots are actually waterproof. First time you have to walk
spk_1: 27:30
through water with him. Especially because you know the first time you walked, the water's got 42 degrees. What? She almost nasty, buddy, I just don't want that in your shoes. Really? Because the water you're walking will always be called. Well, I mean, water sucks. The life sucks the heat out of
spk_0: 27:54
that and it walking in which socks softens your skin. And you can lose callouses that you've built up over months in a day. As
spk_1: 28:05
we know,
spk_0: 28:05
as as I know, some of my sports snake unusual callouses and one day of walking on the beach get get your mind out of the gutter there on her one day, walking on the beach. Get rid of him. So I've started rebuilding. There we are. So yeah, I just wanted to bring that one up. Because food quality outdoor wear is both something that is enriching to have today and is a highly useful rub.
spk_1: 28:34
Absolutely. I think with that I think we're gonna let it go for this podcast. Hope you dwell into the article. Read the article. If you're just listening to you're not angry enough recognition going to the website every now and looking on because we got a lot of stuff that we're trying to be day vers. We haven't done as much gun stuff lately as I would like to have simply because it
spk_0: 29:07
has been did shooting. Let's just
spk_1: 29:08
have a good shooting, Whether we're not we're not really we're trying out personally, sat with our stuff, so there's no I'm not really doing any reviews. He's not trying anything new. Frankly, I reviewed a lot of There's a ton of Dunder news on the cycle. It's a lot of what we did early on, and that was part of the information I want to share our link 30 or 40 job. Let me buy. You know that we got on a gun, drinks up
spk_0: 29:40
the website, gets new post most days, and the podcast want surprises
spk_1: 29:46
we don't guarantee and every day, but we try and they're stays that we can't get it.
spk_0: 29:53
Yeah, we've got real drops. Just once it passes. If
spk_1: 29:59
more than one real job, I personally have three real job. So it's not like actually four. No yeah, work
spk_0: 30:13
go town. It's depressing No, this is The thing
spk_1: 30:16
is, we're not counting maybe why
spk_0: 30:21
we put money into it. Not this is
spk_1: 30:23
just work. It's not a job like the old joke. Everybody wants a job. Nobody wants work. Yeah. Yeah. Have you ever won of one more thing for this other? If you ever think Hey, I got some good ideas. I think I'd like to submit a couple ideas may be aghast offer or, you know, I think I maybe be interested in helping them out. Company line. It's Sophia beans, bullets, Sophie at means full advantages. And you that probably like No, no. Maybe
