This episode features an insightful and candid interview with long-time WOW supporter and speaker Jordan Stephens, a writer and one half of music duo Rizzle Kicks. Speaking to Jude Kelly just before lockdown, they discuss the idea of toxic masculinity, race, and men's responsibility to check in on each other's behaviour.
First up though, we look back to WOW London in March 2020 to ask 'Are we giving boys the tools they need to contribute to a gender-equal world?' in a discussion on Bringing up Boys. This fascinating conversation features Ellen Bird of Mums Like Us (a network for disabled mums), writer and Black Ballard Editor Jendella Benson, Koen Dedoncker, from Belgium's Men Engage Network, and Aceil Haddad from Pregnant Then Screwed.
Plus, hear from Mishcon de Reya's Elliot Moss about how they support women at their firm and a performance by Hope Masike, a singer, songwriter, Mbira-player and author from Zimbabwe. Her desire is to push the traditional mbira, an instrument labelled 'demonic' during Zimbabwe's colonial era, into new and contemporary spaces. She recently started a fibroid awareness and support campaign inspired by how (contrary to the handling they are given) they are affecting a lot of Black women's livelihoods in her country, including herself.
