Show Notes

This episode has a lovely chat with Edwina, & how the birth of her Son & her own Rebirth, inspired the creation of a photographic movement called A Body Of Art Project.

Edwina Masson is a visionary artist, educator, and more recently postpartum body visibility activist. Up until falling pregnant Edwina was an independent musician pioneering a new path for women in the industry and beyond, via ethereal vocal compilations that weave a melodic modern-day village around life’s sacred transitions.

However, after giving birth to her son via Emergency C-Section and being absolutely consumed by motherhood Edwina’s identity and focus shifted. Edwina was desperate to have something creative that existed for her outside of mothering that still recognized her mothering.

Seeing a lack of representation and celebration of the diversity of postpartum bodies Edwina started photographing her own body in the hopes of unpacking her own self-image issues, shedding the shame she felt and challenging the narrative around birthing bodies having to “bounce back”.

From this “A Body of Art” project was born. ABOA is a week-long photographic journey where you (postpartum body) are the muse and photographer. Its mission is to give birthing people the opportunity to celebrate their body as it is right now in this moment.

Next round of openings is in June date TBA
