Show Notes

Today we have a guest on the show: Lindsay from @anchoredinelegance and www.anchoredinelegance.com. Lindsay is a news anchor turned content creator. Lindsay is going to be sharing a few tips on how to pitch and land media coverage for your brand and business.

So if you’re interested in gaining media exposure and what to learn what to include in your pitch, this podcast episode is for you.

Who is Lindsay?

Lindsay is as news anchor, turned content creator and higher education communicator. By day, she works for Purdue University – by night, she works on her blog (Anchoredinelegance.com) which is both her side hustle and passion project.

Lindsay was a news anchor and reporter for more than 10 years, working at TV stations across Wisconsin and in Michigan. She found her calling when she started anchoring morning shows.

We ask Lindsay:

What is the value in landing media coverage?
Lindsay shares with us:

1)      Increased exposure/brand awareness: The morning news, the radio, and other media opportunities are platforms to introduce yourself and your brand to new audiences. If you can offer them something of value, appear credible and friendly, you can easily convert these viewers/readers into loyal followers.

2)      You are building increased credibility as an expert: . If you can demonstrate an ability to speak with authority on a given topic (e.g. offer/link to examples of other successful media appearances), journalists are much more likely to accept your credentials and frame your comments as “expert”. Your audience will feel the same.

3)      It helps your SEO – Backlinks help build your SEO game! Earned media, like a TV guest spot, can be huge for bumping up your Google search ranking.

What do you pitch to media outlets like the news or radio?
Lindsay answers:

You need to teach the audience something, help them solve a problem, share insight on current trends, or come at a topic from a unique angle. It should be timely and relevant to the season. It should also be clear and brief.

We also ask and answer:

  • When should you pitch?
  • What do you need to include in your pitch?
  • Who do you address your pitch to?
