Morning Mantra: "Taking care of myself is how I best take care of others."

Much along the lines of “self-care isn’t selfish”, I tell myself often that taking care of myself is how I best take care of my people.  

It’s so easy to feel guilty when you take time for yourself or prioritize your needs, so this mantra reinforces the simple truth that you cannot care for your others if you’re not caring for yourself first and foremost.

One way I take care of myself is through self-connection. Being connected to yourself means that you’re attuned to your inner workings and have a solid understanding of your thoughts, wants, desires, and body.  

In other words, it means you’re in touch with your own emotional, spiritual, and physical needs, and also honor them in your daily actions.  It’s knowing what makes you you.  

This sounds simple, but it’s something many of us don’t spend much time on it can be challenging and uncomfortable for some of us.  So how do you get over this and start a better relationship with yourself?

1.) Embrace alone time
2.)  Start each day by checking in with yourself
3.) Practice Mindfulness
4.)  Pay attention to your feelings
5.) Practice journaling
6.) Engage in self-reflection

Like any relationship, the one you have with yourself takes time to build. It needs to be lovingly and patiently cultivated and it takes work to strengthen and maintain it.  But having a deep connection to your inner self and voice will give you confidence in your decisions, awareness of your feelings, and strength to deal with life's demands.
