Horse Hippie’s Morning Mantras

Mindfully Peaceful

Horse Hippie Season 70 Episode 4

Morning Mantra: "Anger and resentment are like embers held in the hand; they also burn the one who holds them."

Maybe you think that it’s OK to hold onto resentment when life feels unfair. Or maybe like a vine growing slowly over time, these negative reactions become a habit that you don’t even realize you are doing.

There can be a flickering comfort in anger or resentment. It can feel like a shield, a way to stay in control when things feel chaotic. But that warmth is fleeting. Before you know it, you are carrying a heavy burden in your mind.

You’ll find yourself at odds with everything, including traffic, the weather, your circumstances, or maybe even the reflection in the mirror. When your heart is full of these heavy shadows, the light of peace and love cannot find a place to rest.

Anger and hatred can gently fade your joy and quiet your laughter. But if you realize this, a beautiful shift happens. You will see that you have a choice. You can choose the path of letting go.

It begins by noticing these feelings as they arise and greeting them mindfully, then choosing peace and letting them go. You can choose to be kind to yourself and let go of this heavy darkness, and you will unlearn these old ways of reacting. And take control over your responses to life.
