In this episode of the Entertain This! Podcast, the hosts venture beyond the ordinary into four wildly divergent realms of entertainment that somehow converge on a single, irresistible question: what does it take to build—or hilariously dismantle—a perfect world?

They begin with the acclaimed television series Paradise, examining how its meticulously crafted utopia conceals fractures that feel eerily familiar. The conversation then shifts to the uproarious slapstick British comedy Fackham Hall, where stately corridors and whispered secrets erupt into pratfalls, pandemonium, and chaos worthy of the finest farce. From there, the discussion enters the sweeping dunes of the open-world game Crimson Desert, dissecting its breathtaking visuals, unforgiving combat, and narrative ambition that redefines what a desert odyssey can achieve. Finally, they launch into orbit with the cinematic adaptation of Project Hail Mary, praising its ingenious blend of hard science, human frailty, and high-stakes ingenuity that transforms a cosmic Hail Mary into an unforgettable ode to resilience.

With sharp analysis, unexpected parallels, and the signature wit that defines the podcast, this episode delivers entertainment that is equal parts thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable. Tune in—your next favorite obsession may be hiding in the most unexpected place. #CrimsonDesert #Paradise #ProjectHailMary #FackhamHall #review

You kids would have a cup of hot water.

SPEAKER_00

We'll wait. Look, there's no laughing this episode. I told you my my face hurts from laughing. Dumb and dumber.

SPEAKER_04

What did I say we're gonna talk about the next episode? Oh whatever. The one guy that's like I forgot. Sounded painful.

SPEAKER_00

Can you not do that? Can you stop? I just want to dislocate my job line football.

SPEAKER_04

Well, hello. Had to punch it back. Welcome to Entertain This, a podcast about movies, TV shows, video games, and weird mouth noises. And weird medical ailments. Alright, stop it.

SPEAKER_03

People are gonna turn the turn off the show.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. My name is Hayden. With me I have Mitch. Hello. And Tam. Hello. Today we're discussing stuff that we've seen and or played.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Very robotic sounding. Yep. We're not played.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna scouts on the mobile school club. Lots of things. But before we begin, social media Mitch.

SPEAKER_00

Go Tom!

SPEAKER_04

Hayden. Mitch.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you go to entertainthispodcast.com, which will take you to our Facebook group and page. Will it? You can also go to at entertainthis underscore, which will take you to our Instagram, TikTok, or X. But you can listen to all the podcasts there or has a link to our podcast.

SPEAKER_04

We can listen from anywhere that you would listen to podcasts. We're there.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

We have a presence. Huge. Huge.

SPEAKER_01

Huge, tremendous. My people tell me it's the biggest podcast.

SPEAKER_04

Alright, let's get the worst review out of the way, Tom. Go first. Why did I know you were gonna just choose me?

SPEAKER_00

Because we don't know. I don't know what you're reviewing.

SPEAKER_03

I watched a movie.

SPEAKER_04

Was it from this decade?

SPEAKER_03

It was from last year. Ah uh when was this release? December 12th, 2025. Was it the Gorge? No, uh Fackham Hall.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Go ahead. Directed by Jim O'Hanlon. Written by Jimmy Carr, who, if you know who that is, it's an English comedian who pretty much specializes in writing the most offensive things humanly possible.

SPEAKER_04

He's a very deadpan, straight lace British comedian.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny when he starts to like lose it. Yeah. His dealing of hecklers. Just watch that because that's pure gold. Because those people are not prepared for that guy. No. Nope. I think people heckle just to get him to do it. It's like we don't care what your real written set was.

SPEAKER_04

He's really like. I wish I was talented enough to have a coherent thought process without sounding stupid on the fly like some of these people can, where somebody can insult him or say something and start. In half a second, he's already generated destroyed their their generations of family, you know, with a retort.

SPEAKER_03

And I can't even like order something on McDonald's without like you have your order ready and you get to the window, and it's like Oh hey, welcome to Saxby's.

SPEAKER_02

Can I take your order? You're like, oh I'm at Saxby's chicken. I want chicken. Do you guys you guys have that here?

SPEAKER_04

You guys, you guys have the Burger King whopper? This is a McDonald's.

SPEAKER_01

Leave.

SPEAKER_03

But this movie is I don't, it's comedy and satire, and just making fun of Downton Abbey and like Bridgerton, like relentlessly. Because it's stuffy British people, and like, you know, the turn of such. But this this movie, it's hard to describe it because you have the dialogue, which is beyond bizarre and hilarious. You have what the your like foreground people are doing, which is funny, and then there's jokes happening in the background. It's Monty Python stuff, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It's not even Monty Python, like like it this is three jokes going on.

SPEAKER_03

Really? Because Monty Python would have like a joke at the beginning, and then two episodes later you'd get the punchline to that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Like that's how long that they could drag it out.

SPEAKER_04

That's a good idea. What if we made a joke today that didn't have a punchline for like a year from now? Just to keep diehard listeners off. Or what if we gave the punchline now? You do know we are the diehard listeners. Yeah. What if we gave the joke the what if we gave the punchline now and then did the joke a year from now and then call back to it to get our like you know what older episodes spike? Genius.

SPEAKER_03

It's a joke time capsule.

SPEAKER_00

Remember that joke I told back on episode 302? Yeah. Planypus is wearing hats.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that was totally worth it, guys. That's like in how I met your mother. It's like, wait for it. And then like the season ended. Yeah. Just for it to come around in the next episode or the next season. But like, because they're lampooning the crap out. And like Damian Lewis is like the Lord Davenport guy. Where like at the beginning he's talking to his wife. Is he British? Yes, he is. Okay. Which is funny because he played Winners. He played Winners in Vander Brothers. Yeah. So he is British. He is British. I couldn't tell. Because like sometimes I A lot of the actors in Vander Brothers are all British.

SPEAKER_04

A lot of them weren't.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, like a vast majority of them are English.

SPEAKER_00

No, I was like, I was. Yeah, Banner Brothers, right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

He wasn't American. No, he's not in New York. No, he's not. That's the Pacific.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, the Pacific. Never mind. That's that's right.

SPEAKER_03

But like Nick. David Schwimmer. And David Schwimmer. Yeah, they were American.

SPEAKER_04

Anyways, moving on.

SPEAKER_03

Anyway. So one of my favorite bits is or the jokes is with the husband and wife are sitting there talking about their daughter. And she's like 23. She's barren, destitute, shriveled up, husk of a woman, and she's sitting right behind him, but you don't know that that's her until she turns and addresses her. And you're like, oh. Because it's like they say, or the narrator's like, they never even have to like lift a finger, and they show David Lewis, and he's sitting there drinking tea, and he takes a sip, and his arm goes out from behind him to reveal that it's a butler who was giving him the sip and walks away. And he just goes, It's just so dumb at points, but it's so funny how like stupid they do it, but layer it with other dumb stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like she goes to the party and she like grabs like the waiters come by and they got like the drinks on trays, and she grabs a champagne and just slams it, and then another one comes by and it's flowers in a vase, and she grabs it, rips out the flowers, and chugs the water, and you're just like, but what?

SPEAKER_04

It's just like the wild shenanigans that everybody just straight laces it.

SPEAKER_03

And the pickpocket, who's so good, he was pickpocketing people's pants. Yeah, but it happens a lot in that movie.

SPEAKER_04

I I it's not my cup of tea as far as humor goes, just like you know, everybody's socially unaware of the goofiness that's going on in front of you.

SPEAKER_03

Inspector, what?

SPEAKER_04

What I did like the part where the Jimmy Carr was like talking with the priest, and he's like, But he doesn't know where how commas work. Yeah, he just kept reading.

SPEAKER_03

Like it would just be these bizarre sentences that are like horrible. It's like it's like you may now kiss all the choir boys, and then he stops and goes, he's like, You may now kiss all the choir boys will now sing this song. But he's like supposed to be Hitler. What? At the end where they show you didn't see the and they finish it, where they show so the plot basically it doesn't really make any sense, but you have Lord and Lady Davenport, yeah, and their daughter's supposed to marry Draco Malfoy.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's right, yeah, yeah. Poppy.

SPEAKER_03

But he she runs away, she runs away to be with the manure salesman.

SPEAKER_04

That's right, because there's true love. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

True love to blame. And they have their spinster daughter Rose, who's 23, and wants to read and like will work for money. She wants to read. That's too much to ask for. But all the male Davenports are dead, and they he's like, Damien Luce is flipping through the scrapbook of all these horrible incidents. It's just like, it's like like his son, like it's like, you know, Davenport gets ticket on Titanic.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And he flips over. It's like Davenport, you know, one of the first to be able to ride the Hindenburg flips over. And like the last one is like it's like Davenport found dead in strangulation wanking incident. Yeah, he's like, they all died doing what they loved, and it cuts to that one.

SPEAKER_04

But it's also that it's not so much that like she can't find an eligible bachelor, she can't find an eligible cousin.

SPEAKER_03

Because they have to do it. Because one of them, like at the end, like they show like and Poppy, it's like caused a major scandal because she married her second cousin. Yeah, yeah. It's too far out of the family. It was too far out of the family, but they're gonna lose Fakham Hall when Lord Davenport dies because there's no male heirs, so they want one of the daughters to marry Archibald, who's Draco Malfoy's character. And Poppy runs off, so they try to get her to marry Rose, the other daughter, but she's fallen in love with Eric, no one, which is noon, just N O O N-E.

SPEAKER_04

I've met a guy with a name like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's like, it's pronounced no one.

SPEAKER_04

No, he said Noon, the guy that I knew, but uh, we would all call him no one for funds, but yeah, what a twist. Got really pissed about that.

SPEAKER_03

And he's like an orphan pickpocket, and they give him like this letter, and like they said it's like, oh, go deliver this to the Davenports. And he walks in and they're just like, Oh, are you here for the position of Hallboy? And he's like, Yeah. And they're like, All right, you're hired. And like they take him, and like it's like it's like you'll be sleeping in this room with Terry, Jerry, Gary, Richard, Michael, and Arthur. Yeah, and then the guy like looks up and he's like ironing and he goes, They put you in the big room right off the bat. It's like a closet with just like a stack of beds going up.

SPEAKER_04

So he him and Rose are attracted to each other, but they go off on like their little thing when it turns out to be fair, like you describing this, because I've watched an episode or two of Bridgerton and I watched a couple seasons of Downton Abbey. I actually kind of like Downton Abbey. But, anyways, I I'm having a hard time remembering if it's from the movie that you're describing or from the uh the shows, because it's like that's exactly how the shows are.

SPEAKER_03

Like they line it up, like it is so on the on the nose, it is brutally like Mitch. You like probably like this movie, it's on HBO. Free to watch it. Okay, you're not going Fakum Hall. Very careful with the pronunciation because he's like, he's like, I need you to go to this place, and he says Femal, and the guy goes, Yeah, that's it. And it's just a big map, and it just says F Hall. It's just like, really? But the layered puns. Anyway, they end up they can be together because it turns out he was actually like the long-lost brother because they're great Aunt Napoleon or great aunt Bonaparte, and like they're meeting with this dude, and J.R. Tolkien's in the movie as a character. Yeah, he hasn't written any of the books yet, but he's just working on it. He's like, I developed a whole language for orcs, and they're like, Cool, man. He's like cool, and he's like, And they're like, uh-huh. And what was I even talking about?

SPEAKER_04

Get lost. The dude, the pickpocket, gets the big room.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it turns out he's like at Davenport, so he can marry Rose because they're technically now first cousins. Uh-huh. And then Malfoy goes to try to kill him, but can't. He's like, he's like this close, Mitch. Pulls the trigger and shoots the glass, and they're like, You really are terrible shot. And the inspector grabs me, he's like, You're nicked. And he's like, What? And goes, It's inspector what to you, and leads him out. It's just so stupid. Did you see the part though with the with the wedding? Yeah, she's like getting pulled back because her dress is like 500 yards long and it's still in the car. Yeah, and they take off.

SPEAKER_04

They shut it in the car door. Like elaborate British wedding.

SPEAKER_03

He gives her the wedding box, there's nothing in it. Or the necklace box.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so like it has all like the uh the beauty and overdone splendor and like clasp of all those like girl shows at Bridgerton and whatnot. And it'll cut to like the the the maid, the the wedding lady runs off to go be with the manure guy.

SPEAKER_03

He's and he's like he has a cart full of poop. Yeah, and she runs up and like she's gonna like carry the cart and she just takes off, and it's like this hulking lunatic looking guy.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it looks like a I don't know, like a beaver skin.

SPEAKER_03

The funniest part is where Damian Lewis gets killed in the movie, like on purpose accident.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Because he's like, him and the maid are having an affair, and he's like, they're like opening a letter. She's like, those like all their manservants are their bastard children. And he like falls onto his desk and stabs himself in the chest with a letter opener. And he's she's like, Oh my gosh, like, I'll call it down. He's like, There's no time. He's like, You gotta shoot the knife out, and he like gives her a gun and she's just blasting him in the chest, and she's like, It didn't work, and he's like, There's still time. He's like, get the acid. He goes, Well, get the bullets out with the acid, and she's just dousting him in, and he's like, ah, ah, and he's like, Quit, you gotta save all the blood that's in my brain from leaving.

SPEAKER_02

Strangle me with this belt.

SPEAKER_03

And they didn't, they they have his funeral, and she's like, We did his best wishes, like he wasn't buried. They had him stuffed, and he's in a safari outfit with a shotgun. The rest of the movie, it's just him just like this. It's so stupid. And then he meets like his Indian buddy, and like, oh, you were dad's friend who saved him in the war. And he's like, Yeah, your dad saved my life, and like they show them like running and stuff's exploding, they dive into a trench, and he just leans over and looks and goes, You should get that mole checked out. And like it's like then he cuts them later, he's like rubbing the side of his neck like where it was. It's it's a very fast-paced movie when the jokes are so detailed and layered out, but it's it's worth a watch. I'd give this an eight out of ten if I could recommend it to you, Mitch. You'd you'd British. It's not that it's British, it's just that it's funny. Because I didn't know it was British. Rachel was watching it, and I had to go back and restart it because I was just sitting there giggling the entire time.

SPEAKER_04

I like how they have like the impromptu American character that's in every show or whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, she wants to just buy the place.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's the most American person ever.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they roll up on the cottage or the this lavish mansion. It's huge. And she's like, Oh, what a nice, quaint little cottage. Yeah. And she's like, I want to buy your house. He goes, and she's like, and he's like, and what are you gonna do with it? He's like, Well, I'm gonna knock some stuff down, but I'm also gonna build like up to a 13th floor. She's basically gonna turn into a skyscraper in the middle of the country. That's what Americans do.

SPEAKER_04

Eight out of ten. Huh. I didn't finish it.

SPEAKER_03

The end of it where they show like what happens to people, where their great aunt Bonaparte, who knew Napoleon, she's like, Yeah, it was my nephew. So she shows like her date of birth and death, and it's like 1725, date of death 2025.

SPEAKER_04

Because they're always old forever. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it's like Archibald tried to kill himself, but he missed. Yeah. And it's like, and it's like Lord Davenport was still dead. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It's worth it. You'd like it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I'll I'll I'll look and see. I'll try.

SPEAKER_04

Well, cool. There's a movie somebody watched.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Mitch, what did you do?

SPEAKER_00

I went I played a game. What was the game? Crimson Desert. Crimson Desert. It's a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_04

I've seen a lot of stuff about it. I I've heard it described as the best video game that AI has ever made.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I don't know why the people call it AI, but.

SPEAKER_04

It's there's some things that are obvious.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, let's see. What was it on here?

SPEAKER_04

It's a no-name Korean producer developer company.

SPEAKER_00

And it's like it's developed by Pearl Abyss.

SPEAKER_04

Never heard of it. It's a massive, ginormous game, and the the quests are like they make zero sense, from what I understand. I haven't had that problem.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, the quests are to me, it's a lot like GTA, where you'll run into people that'll have like a quest, like, hey, I need timber to, you know.

SPEAKER_03

How many times have you been playing Grand Theft Auto? So it's like, I need wood. I mean, this is like a Go to Home Depot and get it for me, come back.

SPEAKER_00

Well, here, just anyway, it it's a this is basically like Grand or more like Red Dead Redemption meets Assassin's Creed. What else did I write? I wrote down somewhere. Oh no, I I forgot, I text y'all. But it I mean it's like it's like technically you did write it down. Red Red Dead meets GTA meets Assassin's Creed because there's a little bit of future stuff.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like where there's strange, like I don't know if they're aliens or what, because I haven't gotten far enough.

SPEAKER_05

Aliens.

SPEAKER_00

But there's like this almost like was it Breath of the Wild, where there's these like cloud things, cities above where you have these strange puzzles.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm I'm not saying this bad game. I'm just saying that it shamelessly rips off of a whole bunch of other games. It does a good job com combining it all, but it was it's almost like they walked into a game, you know, market store and was just like, we'll take that, and we're gonna take a little bit of that, sprinkle in some of that, you know, and uh we'll that for dessert.

SPEAKER_00

Well, basically you start off as this character named Cliff, which I don't know if he's like Scottish or what, because he has like the blue face paint.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he kind of has like a uh Nordic or Scotlandish kind of Scotland. Scott Scotland. Scotlandish Scottish. He's got an he's got an accent. But uh Does he sound like William Wallace? Yeah, kind of. But basically his their clan or whatever get beaten, he gets thrown off a cliff after you fight the boss that evidently you can't.

SPEAKER_03

Cliff went off a cliff.

SPEAKER_00

He did. He did actually make that joke in here.

SPEAKER_03

Good. AI knows when knows a good pun when we see it.

SPEAKER_00

But basically, you're you're going through this town, you're trying to regather the people that were left, you know, that were survivors from the attack, rebuild that, make your own camp, and then this magic or alien beings, you run into them and then they they kind of give you hints at stuff. I mean, there's just so much to the game that I I don't really get lost.

SPEAKER_04

Like there's so many mechanics like from because I was just watching like how do you get started, and then I was considering buying the game because it's 70 bucks, right? Yeah, yeah. And the the dude left for the YouTube video was like, uh, well, 15 hour tutorial. And I was like, there's no 15 hour tutorial.

SPEAKER_03

This guy was just stupid, he just couldn't get past it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Are you do you have access to every place in the in the map right now? Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm only on chapter four out of like I think 12 or 13. All right.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know how it works.

SPEAKER_00

You you can when you come in, you can go anywhere from right from the start.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but you can't do everything right from the start.

SPEAKER_00

You just got can, yeah. I mean, like, I I've I've already gotten I haven't done but two or three actual like of the main missions, but I've already got a sword that's like level because it starts off, I think it started off at seven. I have mine up like 27 now.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So like the the main, like just you know, what do you call it? Like the fodder kind of guys that come out there, I can like one hit half of those.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, uh I heard there's a lot of grinding that you gotta do at some points.

SPEAKER_00

Well, because in this, you don't just level up by getting XP. You you kill people and do things, and it'll raise up the uh the meter where you can apply this token towards stuff. But I mean it's not just like hey, do this mission, get XP, level up. Because I mean, like I went and I beat up a bunch of guys, and I just got stuff from beating them, and then I could go and level up. Your character doesn't just get stronger, like you it you give more stamina or a bigger health bar, but like to improve, you actually gotta upgrade your armor, you gotta upgrade your weapons.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

For the weapons, if you like this sword, say it has a special ability, you can actually have go and pay this witch that she'll take the ability out of that sword and you can put it into any other weapon.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

And so, like, I have like a two-handed katana. Well, I took this sword that basically shoots out these orbs that will track like whenever you do a heavy attack, so it'll shoot out like two or three orbs, they'll attack the the guys that are around. Well, I pulled that out of that sword, put it in the katana, because the katana also has an ability where when I hit people with it, it takes some of their stamina away, so it makes them slower, plus it's a lot faster swinging than the other sword.

SPEAKER_04

So now I've got a sword that's so you it's uh you know, sandbox like character builder game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean there's there's near unlimited exploration. I mean, there's boundaries to the map, yes, but you can go anywhere from the start. Like I'll run into people that I definitely don't need to be fighting.

SPEAKER_04

You guys remember Black Desert? Yeah, that that's from the same people, and it was an MMO, right? Well, I think we played it for like one day. Yeah, and so this is the sequel to that. And it Crimson Desert was originally planned to be an MMO, and they they scrapped that idea to do a single player game.

SPEAKER_03

Wasn't is this the game that like what two years ago they started putting out teasers and stuff, and it was like hyper realistic looking?

SPEAKER_04

It's it's a beautiful game. I mean, the water physics are amazing, like I mean, it looks like real water, it's but like I said, uh the some of the quests were designed for anybody to stumble across them, and they're not really like they're kind of shoehorned. And you know, so because they're MMO quests, they just didn't rewrite it. And they also have alternate characters that you can play as, correct?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's three different characters, so but you have to unlock them as you go along to where you have access to them.

SPEAKER_04

Because the developers didn't know what character you're going to be talking with when you interact with random NPCs. They just don't have you dialogue with them. It's just the NPCs that dialogue with you. That's what I that's what I was giving the impression as.

SPEAKER_00

What do you mean?

SPEAKER_04

If you go to the guy that says, I need you to fetch me 12 lumber, your dude doesn't talk. You're just No, Michael talks to him. Yeah, he no, he I mean he's got full voice like for the main plot or for like all the random NPCs. Like you can't I heard you walk into a town, all you can do is like greet people.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, like just the random NPCs. Now there's certain people that you need to talk to, like the shop owners and stuff like that. Yeah. I mean you have conversations with them. Okay. But yeah, just the random people, it'll be just like kind of generic talking.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because there's I mean, really, I mean, you'll go into a town and there'll be like hundreds of people just walking around doing different things. But they actually pay attention. Like, if you start fighting somebody, they're not just going to go about their business, they'll stop and see what's going on. Really? And like you'll have dogs or whatever that'll bark. You can go up and pet the dogs, and you can actually get pets if you've seen that. If you pet the same dog enough or feed it, and once it gets to like a hundred points, which you get five points for petting it, and you get like I think 25 points for feeding it. But once it gets to a certain part, you can actually make it your pet and it'll follow you along if you want it to. And like if you shoot iron ore off the side of the mountain, because you you can go and use the pickaxe, but or you can use the big like arrow shot that's like powered up and it'll break it. The dog will actually run up and get it and bring it back to you.

SPEAKER_04

Or you can dress your animals and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_00

You can. I saw I don't have a dog or a horse with anything on it yet, but I saw where like you can get armor and put it on the dog because they'll actually help you fight against other people as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, but like, yeah, you can put armor on the horse, you can put armor on the dog. You can actually, I found out from another streamer that while you have these other characters that you can be, you can also summon them to fight alongside you as well. It's kind of cool, and they'll fight for a certain amount of time, and then it kind of has like a cooldown if they get either knocked out or you get too far from it, and then you have to wait till you can call them again.

SPEAKER_04

But you can do basically anything in this game. You can fly, you can have a dragon mount.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, uh, people were mad. They're like, oh, you can only call a dragon once an hour. I'm like, well, yeah, I mean It's a dragon. People are mad, they're like, oh, well, it should be something you can ride all the time. Yeah, but they showed the dragon's powerful enough when you run up to these bandit cities, he can just breathe fire and destroy the entire thing. You can't have that 24-7, or defeats the game.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So, but I I mean, I I've enjoyed everything from it. I mean, there's they're so detailed where you have to have a bandit mask or you can't steal anything.

SPEAKER_03

And if you're if you're not wearing it, you're not dressed for the occasion and you can't do it. Pretty much. Why are you dressed like a sailor pickpocketing that guy?

SPEAKER_00

They they have a lot of stuff like Fallout where like you'll come across random stuff. I I was going through these woods, it was a cabin. I walked in and everything looks normal. There's a trap door in the bottom. I went downstairs, it's like a bloodbath. There's just like murder on the walls and everything. And then all of a sudden, these three bandits jump out of nowhere and attack you, and you gotta fight them off. But it, I mean, it's not not difficult, but it's just weird little things set in throughout the uh the towns. You have that they have a banking system where you can invest a little, a medium, or a high risk thing. Well, if you make too much money, a tax collector will actually be like seeking you out.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I heard I heard there's like stocks, like you can uh you can like crash the commerce, the economy of the game and stuff like that. Yeah. So that's what you would do. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Inflation. It's pretty cool because the the gear, all of it can be changed, and then there's like shades of color, just like a like almost like a wheel's color. But you can change anything, any of your armor, like it individual like pieces of the armor you can change. You can even change the color of your weapons, all that stuff, which so like if you get a really cool armor set, you're like, oh, that'd look cool in like a metallic black, you can change it. All you gotta do is find the die in the uh the world and you unlock it basically.

SPEAKER_04

So, what is this the plot?

SPEAKER_00

I I I I haven't read it, but what do you mean you haven't read it? You played it. I didn't read the whole plot. I was like, I'm only at the level, I'm only at uh just started chapter four because I've just been exploring everything.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But it starts off where you gotta rebuild your uh group because they were attacked and you want to get revenge on the people that attacked you. That's your character, but then you run into this plot where the the guy from the main city, Hernand, is saying that like all these groups are gonna come to a head and to a conflict, but then you have these alien people that are doing something. I've only like I've only ran into them like twice so far, so I don't really know exactly what their point is.

SPEAKER_04

I've heard that it's a pretty weak main plot, and they're you know, you don't really play it for the story.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, I'll sit down and play, and I didn't realize six hours went by. Yeah, I was like, oh crap, my family's about to be home. I was supposed to pick up the kids. But like like you showed me that you sent a video, you can do wrestling moves, like but because like as you're playing, you'll run into bandits or whatever that can do these moves, and your character will just like, oh, that's something new, and then he'll he'll copy it. So I can like run up and RKO a bandit. You can like if you run up behind a bandit, you can grab him and like suplex him backwards. I found it like if you run, if you jump off of something, you can hit the button to like grab and elbow drop him. I I climbed up to a tower.

SPEAKER_03

You're having way too much fun playing though.

SPEAKER_00

I am I climbed up into a tower where this guy was doing the like shooting me with a bow. So I just climbed up there, RKO'd him, and brought the whole tower down. It's like going through a table. I just I RKO'd him at the top of the tower, and we just broke all the way through the box of it. Um but there's a lot, I mean it's kind of like Assassin's Creed, there's a lot of puzzles that you gotta figure out. And what the good and the bad part is I like that I can just go and explore and do anything, but the bad part is they they don't tell you anything. Like they you just have to figure it out. Because like some of these puzzles, like, there's there's no hints or nothing. You just gotta either look it up online from somebody else that's done it, or just try and figure out how to match this stuff up. Like there was one, I found this ring that basically you can when you put this ring on, it gives you the ability where if you hit L2 and R2, you just charge your body with electric electricity for like the next five seconds or something like that. So anybody you hit gets electrocuted. And but I found it by finding a puzzle where you just have to press, it's like a nine-digit, yeah, nine-digit uh box, and you just press the different light up boxes in the right order, and I just happened to get it running the first time. So I was like, oh okay, I'll take the right.

SPEAKER_03

I don't believe them.

SPEAKER_00

I did because like it was like a top left, bottom middle, and then middle uh right hand side, and it just I don't know, I just pushed what seemed like the push. Okay. I got lucky.

SPEAKER_03

He googled it.

SPEAKER_00

I got lucky. No, I Googled all the rest of them. I'll tell you that. Okay, but there's there's things like arm wrestling that you can go and do at the tavern.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there's like rocks, paper, scissors.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you do rock, paper, scissors, you can go play it. It's it's like a form of poker where they're playing like these sticks. Uh the weather is really cool. Let's see, what else do we have? Oh, they took a lot of inspiration from uh Lord of the Rings. There's a there's an it. They just call them a big old walking tree. Is what these the big old walking trees. The old walking trees. Because it's almost like these little hobbit like children like characters that I guess they live forever because they're they just disappear and they're magic and they live in the they live in the woods. They do. If you get close to their city before you unlock it, like before you do the quest or whatever, if you get close to it, they'll just like and shoot you with a blow dart and knock you out and drag you away. So you can't go into their town.

SPEAKER_03

No, you're not ready for that.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta get the thing on top of the little ant's head and bring it back to them to let you in.

SPEAKER_04

Kill the ant.

SPEAKER_00

Which then unlocks you talk to the the research girl that's little girl that's at the town, and she gives you infinite arrows. So I can just keep shooting regular arrows. Brandon, they don't do a whole lot of damage, but you still have infinite. You can you can do bounties where you go hunt down people, and then you actually have to bring them back alive or dead, depending on how much money you get.

SPEAKER_03

Dead or alive, you're coming with me.

SPEAKER_00

There's uh there's one part where I found in what's the in Norse mythology the big snake.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There's a snake on there that's like four feet or four stories tall, and it's just like sliding around. I didn't bother fighting that, I ran away. Nope, nope, nope. This health bar just stretched across. I was like, oh no, I'm going to health. I don't have nothing but like a regular sword at the time. Nope. And then uh they have uh a horse, basically it's shadow facts because it has near infinite stamina and speed. So you can run across, you know, infinite you know, spaces or whatever, and it and never get tired. They have, let's see, there was a character called the Devil in the Reeds. That was a cool mission. It's this guy that's wanting revenge on a bunch of people, and basically it's like the walking into the uh gladiator when he's walking into the the uh the the big uh wheat field. He's just walking with his hands out. Basically, you walk into a big field like that, and all of a sudden this guy pops out and he's ready to fight, and he's like super fast and he can disappear and then reappear behind you. That's a hard fight. It's pretty fun. But you build up city reputations, like it whether you do good deeds or bad deeds.

SPEAKER_04

Would you say this is game of the year?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it it's up to me, it'd be between this and Arc Raiders now, because that's the two best games I've played.

SPEAKER_04

Well, this is this came out this year, Arc Raiders came out last year.

SPEAKER_00

Then, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

A lot of people are debunking it to be game of the year because uh of how much AI intervention was made, was used during the development of this game. So I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I don't know if uh I I I think that no matter how advanced AI gets, you can tell when something has a human touch with story or with you know design or whatever. So obviously, like if something is legitimately better and it's human-made, I think it should go to that. But if if what's the purpose of a game? You play it to have fun. If the gameplay is worth it, the gameplay outshines everything else. Story's, in my opinion, a great thing to have, but maybe not the best. Obviously, the gameplay mechanics are what bring people back.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I know that like I will sit down on this game as long as she's not listening. I'll sit down in this game at like nine o'clock in the morning, and then I'm like, oh, it's only been like two or three hours. I look down at five o'clock in the afternoon. I'm like, oh crap. I haven't done anything. I've been sitting on the end of my bed for seven hours.

SPEAKER_03

Just kicking his feet like I'm playing a game, playing a game. Pretty much. Richie's world.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't come into any lag or glitches on the game so far. I haven't, I mean, I haven't had any problems. The only thing I would say is there's not enough direction. There needs to be a little more, just so you know what to do in some instances. Because I got stuck on this most like the last chapter that I was on, because you have to go into a tab to send your guys on missions, but it doesn't tell you how to do that, and it doesn't tell you that you have to do that. It just says send them on the expedition mission. Well, you actually have to pull up the map, and then you have to inspect your camp, and then you can tab over to the missions and send them on a mission. But nothing tells you you have to do that, and this is the first time you've had to do it, so you wouldn't know.

SPEAKER_04

That's dumb.

SPEAKER_00

So there needs to be a little more direction on what's going on.

SPEAKER_04

There's so many mechanics for like so many different things that like they get like mechanics that you have to do. Like, you want to do a certain attack, you have to do a button combination that you've never done before.

SPEAKER_00

And to me, it I mean, yeah, there's a lot, it's a complex controls, but it's no different than like when we grew up doing uh a special move for Mortal Kombat or something.

SPEAKER_04

You just yeah, but there's a there's a combo list somewhere. There's something that you can pull up and look at it and like memorize it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, now it doesn't tell you like you can't just pull it up, but when you learn these abilities, it tells you what you have to press to do it, it's just whether you remember.

SPEAKER_04

So you just have to discover it, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because like to do like a backslash or something like that, you have to hit R1 and then X and he'll do a certain move. Or you hit R1 in circle, he'll do a certain move. But a lot of people don't realize that you can hold down the R1 button or the R2 button. If you as long as you hold it down, he'll keep doing the light attack until you run out of stamina. Or if you hold down the R2, he'll keep doing the heavy attack until he runs out of stamina. And then you can hit whatever other buttons as you go.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I'm interested. I'm not $70 interested.

SPEAKER_00

I I just saw a bunch of stuff about it, and I was like, you know what? It really looks cool. It I mean, granted, yes, it has its own story, and the story seems interesting, but I've had it's just as much fun just going and exploring all my own.

SPEAKER_04

How much memory is the game?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I don't have to look at back.

SPEAKER_03

I heard it was big. It sounds like it drive beat a lot.

SPEAKER_04

Big old game.

SPEAKER_00

Big old game show this beat a video game.

SPEAKER_04

You beat one?

SPEAKER_03

I beat a campaign. What? Space Marines.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah. I beat that a while back. Didn't we play didn't we beat it together?

SPEAKER_03

No, we didn't play the campaign together.

SPEAKER_04

Oh we did the So you're playing a multiplayer game, not single player.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the campaign. Yeah. One player.

SPEAKER_04

But not with the but not with us.

SPEAKER_01

That's fine.

SPEAKER_04

Well, what's what's the deal, Tom? You just don't want to hang out with us anymore? I just don't have time to play at night anymore. Because I have to get up at five o'clock in the morning. When do you play? When are you playing Space Marines?

SPEAKER_03

I played the other day because Rachel was gonna go pick up the baby and go run some errands. So I was like, oh cool.

SPEAKER_04

Hey, I'm gonna play games. Does anybody want to be honest?

SPEAKER_03

I only think any of you guys want to play Space Marines, you guys probably just wanted to play Arc Raiders.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. You you barely played Arc Raiders. How much memory, Mitch?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, it doesn't sell me for PS5, but for Steam, it's 150 gigabytes. Well, between 130 and 150. Yeah. But like I said, it's the map is so big, I haven't even explored all of it. And I mean, it doesn't stop you from going anywhere. I ventured, I just kept riding and I ventured into an area where it's like steampunk where they have like these mechanized suits that they're walking around in. So it's it's very layered between I'm running in running from people like you know, barely using stone tools on one side of the map to steampunk mech machines on the other. I know at one point you run into like a mechanized dragon as one of the bosses.

SPEAKER_04

That's weird. Yeah, that's wild cool.

SPEAKER_00

But supposedly, it's I mean, supposedly, as you do the main story, you unlock artifacts from the alien people that make it easier to fight those. But it's it's like I said, it's a lot of fun. I've enjoyed it. Supposedly, there is a multiplayer coming that's been talk talked about. Yeah, I heard about that. To me, this game feels a lot like Elden Ring, but on a simpler scale. It's like it's simpler but bigger. It's same thing, but different. Well, because it it's it's not as complex and as hard as Elden Ring, but there's just a lot more than what Elden Ring offers. As my little brother was playability.

SPEAKER_03

It's the same, but different.

SPEAKER_00

I like the fact that you can make any weapon the OP weapon instead of just finding one thing or one armor that all looks the same that everybody has.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Because you can mix and match the armor sets and all sorts of stuff. Well, if it comes down to price, I might consider it much I beat a campaign.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah? Space Marines?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you told me. Just like two seconds ago.

SPEAKER_03

I know you were still like talking and looking stuff up, so I'm just making sure you knew what I said because you probably zoned out. Good job, Tom. We're proud of you. I will say it was awesome. The ending was I I stood up to play when uh you rally around the standard and he like plants the ultramarines flag and he's just like one hand in a bolter, just like gunning down cultists and chaos marines, and like the whole like all of them, and it goes into like a cinematic, and Kalgar shows up with the gauntlets with Ultramar blasting him. Weren't they gonna continue the? Yeah, there's a third one coming. Okay. But they did do a campaign change for dialogue.

SPEAKER_04

Really?

SPEAKER_03

Where the artifact where Titus spins it and reverses it and like snaps it in half and banishes all the chaos people back to the warp, and you hear the voice say it, like Rise son of Gilliman. It was originally it was supposed to be Gilliman actually saying it. Oh, yeah. The Primark of the Ultramarines. Now it's changed, it's actually the voice of the Emperor.

SPEAKER_04

Really?

SPEAKER_03

Who says it to him?

SPEAKER_04

Interesting.

SPEAKER_03

So they did a lot of lore change like that.

SPEAKER_04

I wonder if they're gonna do something huge with the third game that's gonna change the 40 years of lore.

SPEAKER_03

I did play the camp, some multiplayer. They added a lot of stuff.

SPEAKER_04

The co-op stuff was fun.

SPEAKER_03

The co-op stuff they've added a lot. There's like the Hellbroot challenges now, there's like horde mode. There's like because what there's only six of the co-op missions where you could go and do. Yeah. Now there's like 12 or like 14 or something like that.

SPEAKER_00

I knew they said they were gonna add horde mode when we first got it. I wasn't sure.

SPEAKER_03

Which it looks really fun to go do it. And the well, I would do it if you have it, Mitch, or get it, the Blood Angels Champion pack. The Blood Angels Champion armor is like all plated gold with red, and it has like the angelic face helmet with like the hair and stuff, too. It's uh it has like spikes coming up like he has a crown on. And I was like, Mitch would wear that, but then also I know you guys should just get the black Templar armor.

SPEAKER_00

For Crimson Desert, there's there's an armor that looks like Sauron. He's got like the spiky helmet. Nice wearing all black with a like his whole face mask is covered and looks like almost like eye sockets and stuff. And there's also one that's called like the I don't know if it's called the Black Crow, but it basically he's wearing like a a uh a cloak that's all feathers, and he has like a helmet that's got like a beak and stuff on it.

SPEAKER_04

Ah, that's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_00

He's got a sword where it when you hit with the sword, these crows shoot out and then they home in and attack people.

SPEAKER_03

That's pretty sweet. It's Hayden's weapon.

SPEAKER_00

Once I get that, I'm gonna pair it with the uh that little orb, halo orb things. Yeah. Because you can put both of them on the same weapon.

SPEAKER_03

Setting crows and orbs to get people. Korbs. Korbs or orbs. Well, alright, I'll do a show. What'd you watch, Hayden? Paradise.

SPEAKER_00

Somebody told me I should watch it. I hadn't seen it.

SPEAKER_04

It's alright. It's from the people that made This Is Us. And my wife, I I watched like a season of This Is Us, and it's a show about where everybody understands what's going on except for the audience, and I hate that crap.

SPEAKER_00

So I saw the first episode and I was confused.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. So Paradise is not that as much. There's a mystery that only a few people understand. But essentially the the first season takes place where you see the Secret Service agent for the president go to the work, he and he goes to check in on the president who's played by Cyclops. Marsden. Yeah. And the Secret Service guy, he's the black dude from This Is Us. I don't remember his name. I should probably look it up. But uh, he is the main character. He's a good dude, great, great actor. It definitely carries the show. But anyways, he goes to check in on the president. The president's been murdered. Dun dun dun. And that's like in the first 10 minutes. And then like what he's trying to do, his name is Sterling K. Brown. What he what he does in the first episode is try to like get time to understand the murder before like outside people come in and take over and stuff like that. And the very end of the first episode, they're having these cutaways to when the president's alive throughout the episode, where he's they're discussing like the apocalypse is coming and all this other stuff, and we need to have a contingency plan. So they make this world in a a Colorado mountain called Paradise. And you know, once you find out that that's what they're planning on doing, it it go it go goes back to uh the secret agent guy like leaving the murder scene of the president, and he walks outside and it zooms out, and you realize that they're inside the city, uh-huh, you know, underground. And uh part. Yeah. So like you it's a kind of like a flashback, you know, what happened in the past that led him up to this point, and then what the politics and chaos that's going on while they're underground, kind of thing. So it's like a mixture between silo and lost a little bit.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And so the first season's like, how did it get to this? And you know, you're there's a lot of what have we done? Where's what was the apocalyptic event? Well, it's complicated. And they they do the thing where like it's either an asteroid or nukes. They'll they'll do a thing where like they'll give you just enough information to leave a mystery to be solved for later. But essentially it was nukes, but it wasn't because the nukes were stopped last minute, but everybody kind of jumped the gun and went underground anyways, and a lot of people still survive, and there was a giant MP that stopped the nukes, so everybody's like sent back to the before the industrial revolution.

SPEAKER_03

Everybody's stuck in the Stone Age now, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And the second season, which is where we're at now, is a lot of goings on outside of there, and then you find out that there's kind of like some supernatural thing going on that they just came up with out of nowhere. There you could argue that it's been there the whole time, but it's eh, eh. I just feel like the This Is Us company that came from you know writing really emotional character-driven dramas that were set in a plausible, believable world into whatever this post-apocalyptic craziness is, does not quite compute. And a lot of the the way that they kind of fish you and lead you along with drama is really dumb because it's character-based stuff that would work in like a soap opera kind of esque this is us world, not in this the world is ending, dire straits mentality. You know, yes, I understand the world's ending, but I need to figure out why my son's so upset with his teenage girlfriend kind of stuff. Like that kind of thing that really pisses me off. But I'm still captivated, I'm still watching it, still coming out. I want to know what the answers to the mysteries are and see where it goes. I'm sure it'll be disappointing like all these other world ending shows that leads you string you along to give you a not so you know believable or you know, answer. But anyway, yeah, I give it like a seven. I do like the the action, the drama. I I I feel like the uh the some of the the plot points and the character decisions are bananas, but it is what it is. So there you go. Wrote it. Uh it's good for pretty much just about all audiences. So yeah, I think you it could be a family watch. I don't remember there being anything too graphic. Maybe I'm just so like inundated with the stuff I don't have to see it anymore. When we watched Dumb and Dumber, I totally forgot about a lot of that stuff. You know, with my son. But anyways. Yeah, so there's a show. I played a game too. Let's play. Sekiro. Shadows Die Twice. Is that a new game or is it older? It came out right before Elden Ring.

SPEAKER_03

It was the last playing that when I was playing Warhammer.

SPEAKER_04

Was I?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I saw you were online. I was like, oh hey he's playing Sekiro and I was like he's busy one you could have texted me. He wasn't going to he probably would have been shocked he saw it if he was online.

SPEAKER_04

He was like it's been 84 years. Anyways a Dark Souls game that came out before Elden Ring and you know I wanted to kind of like Dark Souls challenge and I I played it's also a game that intentionally doesn't tell you stuff because it wants you to suffer. It's a Dark Souls game. I found like a secret mini boss and I I probably died a hundred times. And then when you die, you die twice that's the title of the game Shadows Die Twice. So you die and then you resurrect on the spot and then if you die again you're dead and there's no like go back and collect your souls. It's just takes a chunk of your stuff that you got and then you know you keep going until you have nothing. When you have nothing and you keep dying over and over again it puts out these curses on NPCs that directly impact side quests that give you good stuff. So you don't want to die over and over again unless you won't but you're inevitably going to hit that you know brick wall when you fight bosses and you're going to die over and over again. And there is a way to lift those curses but it's a very complicated process. Anyways I had finally beaten the stupid mini boss I I Googled it afterwards and come to find out it's advised to not fight that guy until you get a little bit more powerful. And I was like well why put him there they want you to go like go do stuff and come back kind of thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But you forget to come back and do all the things yeah well I'm afraid of that too because I don't play video games like you know I play play them like once or twice a week and I just don't have the memory to what am I doing?

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah. It's like when we played Elden Ring and we just went boss hunting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's when we re we were doing new game plus yeah and we're just like oh there's that guy over there and we're like let's go get him that's what you can do on this other game on Crimson Desert too.

SPEAKER_04

But I uh I beat the mini boss and then I got my first real boss encounter like the big boss with the you know the bar and the operatic music and all that stuff. Chanting in Latin. So before I had beat I had I'd I'd gotten to that boss she's in like an it's hard to explain another world. So I was in the main world doing stuff. I found another secret there this is giant bell you ring it and then it says you've been cursed I'm like what is that and what did it do and you know I got a million things I'm worried about or whatever.

SPEAKER_00

But who's your daddy and what does he do?

SPEAKER_04

And he's like oh no takes a step in his ankle snaps like a breast I was like what what yeah why it's like putting a big old red button don't punch it they didn't even say that it just said press whatever to ring the bell and I was like okay and I rang it and it's like you've been cursed and I was like well damn it thanks for that and then I go back to the world where the boss is and I fight my way up to the boss and I'm noticing like I'm doing a lot worse now. And I get to this boss and she's kicking my butt for like 30 times in a row and if it if you played the game it's her name's Lady Butterfly and if you've played it everybody'll be like oh I I totally understand. But um yeah I I find out that I I Google it because I'm so frustrated I'm like why am I dying to this and the first thing was like do you have this curse and I was like Bass yes I do and apparently it makes all the enemies way stronger and has their movesets be different.

SPEAKER_01

Huh?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. So I had to get the curse lifted and then I got her dead and there's a phase two so I died like 10 times at phase two and I was like you know what I'm gonna play this. I don't need this kind of stress in my life right now. So I'm taking a break.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah I kind of miss Dark Souls esque like when we were going through Elden Ring and then Shadow of the Earth.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah it's fun with friends when you're doing it by yourself you're just beating your head against a brick wall I just I want to play video games to stress relief not stress err and add to it you know I mean there was stress when we all played together when we were doing boss fights in the game.

SPEAKER_03

But it was commiserating but it was a team stress effort. Yeah watching Hayden run up stabby stab me swinging bonk swords Mitch in the background just rolling lightning at stuff.

SPEAKER_04

I'll tell you what though Sakuro really got me good at parrying I I uh I've gotten phenomenal at parrying I gave up with trying to parry I just tanked the hit and hope for the best I got really good because that the game is parrying the game like every you know like in in Elden Ring you could have your own kind of offense strategy so the Sekrow you there's no just going in and being aggressive you have to learn how to parry the uh enemies attacks and then break their stance and then kill them.

SPEAKER_03

So is uh Kingdom come deliverance too the combat system with swords in that game is really because it's not you know press X and just hit them.

SPEAKER_04

I almost got it it's on game pass now.

SPEAKER_03

You I think you'd like it because I I want to go back and replay that game.

SPEAKER_04

Well I'm beating Hades the game is so long I've already reviewed it and talked about it. But Hades 2 is coming out on game pass in like a week so I want to try and beat it before it comes out.

SPEAKER_03

Because everything you do in Kingdom come affects the entire game. Yeah every person you talk to how you talk to people but the sword combat is like you go to swing but like the button layout is like you press certain buttons and hit like a direction to swing that way with like a certain attack. Did you beat it? I played like I'm in the first town still because I just didn't have time to keep going. Because you and like I got killed by these bandits in the woods and I got so mad I kept running back in there to go kill them.

SPEAKER_00

And I almost got like I spent like two hours trying to kill these dudes I did on Crimson Desert I did it on there was a quarry where basically the bandits had taken over this quarry and I went in the first time and I killed like 20 of them I was like yeah and then I looked and there's like a bar it says like how much percentage that you've beaten this area because you got to beat it all the way down to the zero. One I was down to 98% I was like I still have 98% of the area to clear I was like oh my god oh no I died to them once so then I went and upgraded all my stuff I came back and I wiped them out wiped them out because like as you fight dudes like if you get like if they have like chinks in their armor like the game counts that as like they're not defended there.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh so you can go to swing but also if you swing and deflect the sword like you're parrying at the same time so it's kind of like you gotta like like two tap somebody and be like hit the sword bonk them in the head but you don't kill them because they have a helmet on but you still do damage because it's a blunt force hit. Yeah. And then you're basically trying to beat them down with a sword unless they don't have like great armor in which case you could actually like stab them through.

SPEAKER_04

I might do it. The reason the reason to get games nowadays is so it's so stupid like you're like ah it's free but do I have time how much memory is it what do I got to get rid of and you'll get all these like giant games that you've played five seconds of and you're like I don't want to get rid of that I might finish that game one day because Kingdom come like they hook you in the first because you're like well into the game it's like those like cutscenes like you're like dudes just a juggernaut already.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And then you're doing cool stuff like you got a crossbow you're defending a castle you're shooting dudes in the face with bolts and they're just as they're taking these hits you get a cool sword you got armor on you're chopping dudes down you're like yeah and then it's like and then you get like knocked out or something and it's like beginning of the game. Nice. And you're like damn it.

unknown

Nice.

SPEAKER_03

But the tutorial is so long. Yeah games so much like interesting like nuances like to crafting to fighting how to do stuff learning how to actually talk to people in the game.

SPEAKER_04

I like games that have blended blended tutorials. Like Dark Soul games are pretty good at this you don't really know that you're still learning stuff halfway through the game they just do a good job of trickling in stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Oh then the first grace first steps yeah it's like this is you learning good for you good luck guy you're starting out your first boss fight soldier of Godric yeah and there are people who thought it was really hard like they kept dying and it's just like every time we we would do new game plus or like we'd come back to it's just like how many times I gotta teach you this lesson old man.

SPEAKER_04

They give you a false sense of security the first time you're playing because you kill that you're like my first boss I one timed him I'm amazing and you're like ah you see like four or five slots you're like I can take them and it's like 32 seconds later 32 seconds later you step outside the the cave and there's that dude on horseback you're like I want to kill that guy. No you're not no all right I should also mention that I watched a movie oh yeah Project Hail Mary. Oh yeah I have read the book twice because what's it about the book is amazing. Essentially there's this dude named Rylan Grace. He's a history I'm sorry a science middle school teacher a middle school science teacher that's the right way to say that science middle school science school science school big old science and he is recruited by this international government agency to stop the world from dying and the reason why the world is dying is there's these alien life forms that's slowly consuming the sun's energy that are surrounding the sun and Venus and it's a very hard science fiction driven story narrative. And the book you you when you're reading through it the character main character Ryland Grace he conducts like theoretical physics like light speed you know stuff that try to figure things out and you're like yeah I absolutely get that you know you're like you feel like a genius understanding these these plot lines in the movie they just kind of breeze over that because he he can't really keep up with it. But anyways it starts off with Ryland Grace make waking up on a spaceship and he he slowly comes out of a like a coma coma toast stupor from having been in like a what do they call it hyper sleep or something like that. And you know as he starts to remember why he's there that's where it flashes back to give you like the setup of why the world is ending and things like that. And then the movie kind of spoils a lot of things from the book which is really niche mystery stuff that is really well done and developed as the story comes out but the movie they throw into the trailer he his job is to go to another star that is not affected by this alien entity these microscopic specks that steal sunlight and when he gets there he gets an encounter from another alien which is intelligent and it's this like pentagonal looking rock thing and they can't see they don't have eyes it's just a rock with legs and he he names it Rocky and they they it communicates like kind of like through whale speak like just harmonic moaning yeah and he develops his own like language translator computer program and they develop a language together and they solve this sunlight eating entity thing problem you know together. And the ending is an amazing ending and all the the crazy science fiction stuff that I'm trying to explain to you guys in three minutes sounds ridiculous but it's really well produced and how it comes out and the movie does surprisingly a really good job. It does it like a movie though it does it where all the cool book nuances and the plot devices that are used to generate the stakes and make you feel like this is really intelligent world ending stuff that breezes over because it's a two and a half hour long movie which is long for a movie but barely scrapes scraps scratches the surface of the book. So you know and but Ryan Gosling who's a huge fan of this book I think he read the manuscript before it came out even on the when the book was published was sold to be this character and got the rights to it immediately and has been working this movie for six years getting it made a certain way. And now that he got it his way you tapped uh Phil Lord and Chris Miller which are the guys that did end of the Spider-Verse I think okay and which is a very interesting detachment from their normal animated movie kind of style to live action but they did a really good job. I mean as far as movies go this is the best space opera science fiction movie since Interstellar and I would totally give it a nine out of ten maybe even a little bit higher I I really enjoyed it. I would totally see it again and I think everybody should see it. It's a great like family movie there's no profanity you know no unnecessary sex stuff or there is no sex stuff and the stakes feel legitimate and real and it's not over the top the intensity and you know scary situations have good payout and yeah it's it's an intelligent movie and I think there needs to be more stuff like that. So would recommend okay yeah do you have any news or anything yeah there's a Lord of the Rings movie coming out yeah what's it called Tom is it the Search for Gollum or something. That is what they're currently developing right now Peter Jackson, Andy Circus and whoever Frodo. Elijah Woodjawood But they've just announced that they're doing another movie after that one. They don't have a name for it but it's based off the six chapters in the fellowship that I guess they skip over when before they go on their adventure. Before they go on their adventure.

SPEAKER_03

What with Tom Bombadil Tom Bombadil yeah and it's Peter Jackson developing it with Stephen Colbert Stephen Colbert oh no I I didn't think he liked that well I know he's a huge Lord of the rings fan yeah so in that aspect maybe it's good because I know that they will not want to do anything that's against the book.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah I do feel like they're milking I mean I guess these were six meaty chapters. I haven't read these books in 20 years so I I couldn't tell you but I guess these were meaty chapters that felt like they should have their own storyline with Tom Bombadil.

SPEAKER_03

Well from from what you sent Tom Bombadil I think is only one chapter.

SPEAKER_00

From from what you sent the video was talking about he Colbert was talking with Peter Jackson about he really wanted to make sure that it fit and kept true to the books but also fit in and kept true to the movies that they've already made.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah so they're talking about how it's like an anthology kind of it's gonna be after Frodo has left to Valinor and after his has he left on the quest? No to Valinor. Okay. So Sam and Mary and Pippen like get back together to talk about it or go on a quest to re lo walk their steps or something like that. I don't know. And so there will be a little bit of like we're making up stuff that Tolkien hasn't done before.

SPEAKER_03

Well they do travel afterwards okay so because I think they go back to Gondor they go to Rohan and I think Mary is buried next to Thaedin. Oh yeah or you know near it. But there is like like some after that's going on the after the war becomes like the mayor of the Shire because at the end of Lord of the Rings they'd gloss over completely Saurumon had gone to the Shire taken over the Shire basically like a hellhole. No that's not a yeah well they show like what could happen and that's the only glimpse you get of it. Oh okay. Because they have the whole battle of bywater like Warner's there too he doesn't get shot with an arrow on the top of Warthank by Legolas because Gimli tapped his bow.

SPEAKER_04

Right. So something that happens after the war after the the the the trilogy and like everybody's fine and there's I from what I understood from the video that Jackson and Colbert put out they're not gonna like that I don't I don't get the sense that there's stakes as they reminisce about what the stakes were back then. And that's where we're gonna get some story that we haven't heard of or seen in the movies yet.

SPEAKER_03

There's the big things that happen it's like Wouglis and Gimli go questing together to go see stuff and be bros. Aragorn leads the armies of the reunited Gondor and Arnor into Harad and basically just wipes out the Easterlings and forces them back into submission. Yeah and reclaims literally everything that was once theirs.

SPEAKER_04

Well if they they've confirmed the O Mortensen for the the Gollum movie I think okay I heard he wasn't doing it anymore.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know. Because he he's in his 60s. Yeah but like saying they wanted Ian McKellen to play Gandalf and he's in his 80s he's doing it until he's 90.

SPEAKER_04

He's doing it. But he's an old wizard he can get away with that and I'm uh you know he's supposed to Air Gorn's supposed to be 80 something in the books anyways yeah but he's supposed to look like he's in his prime I I'm sure they could figure it out and I think all these people just want to keep the the fun ride going whether or not it's good yet yet to be determined it is nice that Peter Jackson's coming back to work on Lord of the Rings stuff at least for two new movies the question is will he do better than the Hobbit?

SPEAKER_03

That is another concern.

SPEAKER_04

Because they went CGI they went CGI like crazy they went CGI heavy and they the frame rate and the frame rate was out of control. 80 frames per second was way too much especially for how CGI conducive that movie was like I almost got motion sick watching it and they're just walking and I'm like and also they made up a lot of stuff that yeah the love triangle that wasn't a love triangle that never existed they just made that crap up.

SPEAKER_00

So I I hope they do better with that kind of concept but that's pretty much all the interesting I think catch all news I there's a couple of games coming out they have the there's a game called Blight Survival. I saw a trailer for that yeah it's basically like a open world zombie extraction thing but it's based in the medieval times so there's just like guys running around with swords and axes and armor yeah fighting all zombies. Which I mean it seemed interesting. Kind of had like the uh the four honor kind of graphics as far as like the fights and stuff uh there's a game called Terminator Survivors that they're working on where it's an open world and you're being hunted by the T-800s and they said they wanted to make it more horror so like the what I read the character the T800s will be kind of like a a a Nemesis light from Resident Evil where you can actually beat them but they're they're just stalking you yeah throughout the throughout the land.

SPEAKER_04

It's more conducive to runaway.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Then they're gonna have Star Wars Jedi 3 which Calcestus will return as the main character.

SPEAKER_04

I I haven't beaten in one of them games.

SPEAKER_00

I beat the first one and I've played the second one but I haven't finished it. But then they have the quadruple A third person Lord of the Rings game.

SPEAKER_04

So it's gonna be open world they want they wanted to challenge Harry Potter's legacy as far as like style Hardware's legacy these quadruple A games I need to go back and play that too all these quadruple A games have been cancelled because they it's such a money suck. They put like a billion dollars into a game.

SPEAKER_00

Well they said this one already has a hundred million into it at the moment and it hasn't even been developed yet.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah so like because they were gonna do a Xbox was going to do a perfect dark it was going to be the first quadruple A game where it was going to be a massive amount of money and then like it was just a money suck and they couldn't they couldn't get it to get off the ground and I I wonder if too much money it becomes a problem eventually.

SPEAKER_00

So I mean I imagine a lot of money would go into making sure the lore fits the game as well because this one has so much they don't give a crap about the lore. I think they would because of rings of power I think for the game they would especially if they want to make a big open world I don't think that I think a lot of people are learning from the rings of power. Yeah so I think they would want to put a bunch of Easter eggs from the lore into the game to to explore in a big open world I mean it would be cool.

SPEAKER_04

It would be cool to like go through Moria to to see what Minas Tirith looks like they would have to do like the scale of it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah absolutely because when they first enter the mines of Moria and Ganel's like you know we have to cross through and it's like it's a four day journey to the other side.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's like it took you four days to go from the west to the east side it's like those obnoxiously massive yeah to bring it back to Crimson Desert it you can ride the horse from one corner of the map to the other and if you rode the horse it would take six hours if you just straight rode. Wow now now if you tap like the sprint and stuff it speeds it up a little bit but if you just rode five yeah if you just rode the horse from one point to the other it would take six hours. That's a lot and it big old maps. They actually developed their own game engine for the game as opposed to using Unreal Engine 5. So that's that's why it's it's more tailored specifically for this game. And that's why I don't think I've run into any lags and glitches for it but at least so far.

SPEAKER_04

What's the last one you got there Mitch there was a well that's what I'll I'd written there there was one called the blood of Dawnwalker but I never get to I didn't get to look it anymore into it but it's it's some kind of like open world vampire like you're a vampire kind of game oh yeah that works so well the last time I did a vampire game yeah I I didn't really get to look into it much so I'm not sure what all that is but that was I mean there's a lot of interesting stuff coming out I s I think that we're kind of getting through this like weird renaissance Of people have amazing technology, but they don't know how to use it yet. And they put out mediocre pretty games. Yeah. And hopefully everybody has the skill now to use their tools to make good original games. That are pretty. That are pretty. I hope that's kind of like the new stride this this coming decade.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I know Arc Raiders has like the Flashpoint event that's happen starts on March 31st, which will be out by the time you listen to this. But they're supposed to be adding a new map in April, which ties into the Flashpoint event.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, big arc.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Legal arcs. It's supposed to be like the volcano area or something like that. Oh yeah. I sent I sent Hayden a picture or like a little video where it reveals that the shredders from Stella Montes have made it onto Bluegate. Yeah, they've escaped.

SPEAKER_04

So I don't know if Tom's ever seen those things.

SPEAKER_00

No, probably not.

SPEAKER_04

Yay.

SPEAKER_00

They look like big tra black trash cans that just explode. Shrapnels. But then yeah, they don't die. They just explode shrapnel when they get close. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then you die.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty much. Yeah. But then they've escaped Stella Montis because they were only on the one map.

unknown

So yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They've learned. They have.

SPEAKER_00

So the AI on that game learns. I swear. It does.

SPEAKER_04

It does. Well, we could go on forever talking about cool stuff that we've seen done or is coming out, but the boys. Yeah, we'll save it for another episode. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. If you have anything that you think we should talk about, hit us up on our social media and movie, game, TV show to review. Tell Tom that he needs to play video games with us. Yeah. Blow him up. I'll give you his phone number. 555. No, that was your old number. All right, that's it for me, Hayden. And goodbye for Mitch. Bye. And time.

SPEAKER_01

Goodbye.

SPEAKER_04

See you later. Your Honor, I object!

SPEAKER_00

I was like, I'll take it on a little market.
