          I have fun facts, Ed, about a couple of very special chairs. I know it doesn&#39;t sound very interesting, but the first chair is called King Edward&#39;s chair. You might have seen it a few years ago when a man called Charles sat on it. Do you know what that chair might be?

          I think it is the traditional throne in Westminster Abbey, where kings and queens are made kings and queens.

          That&#39;s right, and that was the coronation of King Charles III. He was crowned on a chair that was made in 1296. That&#39;s 730 years ago. That is even older than your grandpa. It was made for King Edward I, although confusingly, it&#39;s named after King Edward the Confessor, who died in 1066. So that&#39;s nicely confusing. Hang on, Ed, you&#39;re Edward. Are you named after Edward the Confessor?

          I would love to say that I have a throne named after me, but to my knowledge, I don&#39;t have one. Why are you called Ed? Um, I don&#39;t actually know. I think my parents just quite like it. I I don&#39;t think there&#39;s a deep reason. My middle name is Kenneth, but don&#39;t get me started on where that comes from.

          Oh, I would like to, but we shouldn&#39;t. Anyway, a picture of the king, Edward the Confessor or Edward I, we can&#39;t tell which, with his feet on a lion, is actually painted on the back of this wooden throne. The chair is tall, about as tall as you, Ed, maybe slightly taller, and it&#39;s made out of oak. You&#39;re not made out of oak, are you?

          No, but it is my favourite wood, Jam.

          And it burns very nicely in the stove, doesn&#39;t it? Lovely smell. Lovely smell. The chair was originally covered in shiny gold and colourful glass pieces, but they&#39;ve basically fallen off by now. Nevertheless, it&#39;s been used for the coronation of almost every king and queen since 1296. The chair has only moved out of Westminster Abbey twice in its 800-year history, and some people listening might have furniture in their church that feels like it&#39;s not been moved for nearly a thousand years. But the first time was when Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of England because they&#39;d executed the king. Which king was that, Ed? Do you know? Well, I think I&#39;ve just read a book about him, King Charles the First. He was executed in 1649, that&#39;s right. And the second time they moved the chair was during World War II because they were worried it might be damaged by the German air raids from the Luftwaffe. So in 1939, the chair was moved to Gloucester Cathedral for safety because no one&#39;s going to drop bombs on Gloucester. Otherwise, it&#39;s been in Westminster Abbey. And in the 1700s, visitors could even sit on the chair for a small fee. And unfortunately, early tourists and choir boys carved their initials in the chair. And they&#39;re still there. So that&#39;s the first chair. Very briefly, the second chair, which looks far more impressive, is the coronation chair of the kings of Denmark that were used in the 1700s, which features tusks of the narwhal. Because Danish kings claimed ownership over Iceland and the Faroe Islands, where narwhals, which are kind of like big seals or sea lions or whales, with a massive long tusk coming out, like a unicorn, but of the sea, they are part of that throne for the kings of Denmark from the 1700s. It&#39;s not used anymore, unfortunately. But is there a cooler throne than that?

And at the birthday meal, everyone eats the food you love. And your birthday cake is your favourite kind of cake. And if no one else likes it, who cares? Even better. Everyone can have some, but really, it&#39;s just yours. The whole day is all about you. In today&#39;s Bible story, James and John told Jesus to make it all about them.           James and John wanted to sit either side of Jesus when he was on the throne of God&#39;s kingdom. They wanted the best seats in heaven. They wanted to be the centre of attention. Only Jesus had more of the attention than they wanted. They wanted it all and they wanted Jesus to sort it all out for them. This is not going to end well for them. But Jesus was gentle and patient. He didn&#39;t say yes or no. He told them that to share his glory, they would need to first share his pain and his sadness and his loneliness. Jesus wasn&#39;t like other rulers. He didn&#39;t use his power to get rich or to get powerful or to get people to serve him. No. Jesus said he had come to serve. Even though he is the king. Listen to Jesus explaining his mission as God&#39;s King, and he calls himself the Son of Man. Listen to this.

          Jesus came to serve. To serve us. By saving us. In fact, saving us was going to cost Jesus everything, even his life. But he loves you and I so much that he was willing to do it. Do you think James and John would be as keen to sit next to Jesus if they first had to give up their lives? Jesus&#39; way is like being the birthday child who gives their presents away before opening them, who hands out all the cake before they have tasted any themselves, and who chooses the food to make sure their friends get their favorites. If you&#39;re new to Jesus, this is such good news. Jesus left his throne in heaven to save you, knowing he&#39;d have to die to do it. He came to earth to save you, to serve you. If you&#39;re already following Jesus, see Jesus asking you to be like him, not always trying to be the greatest, not fighting for the best seat, not grabbing all you can, not making it all about you, but instead being like Jesus and serving others so they might come to know Jesus&#39; amazing love for themselves. If you want to know who is the greatest, look for the person who is clearing up, who is asking for another job, who is the last to stop helping, and who is being laughed at for trusting Jesus. They&#39;re the greatest. Let me pray. Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that even though you knew it would cost everything, you carried on serving and saving. Thank you for showing us the way. Amen.
