[009] How to Set Boundaries With Close Colleagues When You Get Promoted
Apr 13, 2020 Season 1 Episode 9
Kara Ronin

How do you set boundaries with coworkers and close colleagues after you get promoted? How do you manage former peers when you get promoted? Your relationship with them has changed. They’re used to the old boundaries. But now you have to re-educate them as to where the new boundaries are.

Establishing new boundaries can be challenging for emerging leaders. In this episode, I share with you five steps to setting boundaries with close colleagues when you get promoted.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • It’s your right to set boundaries and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it.
  • How to sit down with your new team to get them on-board with your new boundaries.
  • What to do if people don’t respect your boundaries.
  • How to word your requests assertively and confidently.
  • How to avoid being a “people pleaser” and say “no” to set boundaries.
