A Visit from an Old Foe

NARRATOR

Season 3, episode 6. Previously on VOID, Ursula continued to process her twin brother’s death as well as get closer to Jonas. Nova began settling in to her new lifestyle in space while learning more about Gilban. The crew started performing their duties and getting to know each other. And at the end of the last episode the Ching She suffered a power loss.

SOUND: BRIDGE INTERIOR, STRANGE “QUIET”

INT. THE CHING SHE - BRIDGE - DAY

REGINA REX

Gilban? Gilban! Dammit! Anyone have their personal comm with them?

NOVA BAYFLOWER

I have mine but it’s dead.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Mine too.

REGINA REX

The ship is completely dark, no electronics of any kind so it was an EMP.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

What does that mean?

REGINA REX

It means we’ve been attacked! That bitch, this is so her!

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, BRIDGE INTERIOR, BUTTONS BEING PRESSED, LAUGHING

INT. DELIVA’S DESTROYER - BRIDGE - DAY

DELIVA FLUR

(still laughing)

Perfect shot! She never saw it coming! She must be furious! Ok, let’s move in and take what’s ours. Prepare the boarding party boys, we’re about to own a dreadnought!

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, RUNNING FOOTSTEPS, HATCH MANUALLY CRANKED OPEN

INT. THE CHING SHE - BRIDGE - DAY

GILBAN TRICKEY

(out of breath) It’s an EMP attack!

REGINA REX

No shit. Way to catch up, it would’ve been much more helpful to know that beforethe attack! Since you know the problem Gilban how about offering something constructive like a solution?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Who is attacking us?

REGINA REX

Deliva Flur.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Who?

REGINA REX

She’s a rival, no time to discuss details now. She’s here for the ship and my damn contract.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Contract?

REGINA REX

Later. We need to move fast before they can board us.

SOUND: MULTIPLE FOOTSTEPS

GIDEON JUDGE

What do you need us to do?

REGINA REX

I need you and Serebella to get to the guns, they’ll have to be operated manually since the computer systems are down. Where the hell is Anko and Ursula?

GIDEON JUDGE

Haven’t seen them. Which side of the ship?

REGINA REX

Hang on a sec, everyone look out a window, tell me if you get a visual.

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS AROUND THE BRIDGE

GIDEON JUDGE

Over here, I think I see their ship over here.

REGINA REX

Starboard side. Serebella, take Captain Aldridge with you and show him how to operate a cannon. I have a plan to give us a burst of power. As soon as the power is up, target her ship and start blasting.

SEREBELLA REON

On it. Come on Captain Aldridge, let’s get moving.

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS SCRAMBLING

REGINA REX

Gilban, if we raise the solar sails will that give us enough energy for the guns?

GILBAN TRICKEY

That should work, we’ll need to start moving immediately though, you know they rely on momentum to build power.

REGINA REX

Good, can you raise them?

GILBAN TRICKEY

I’ll need a hand.

REGINA REX

Nova, go with Gilban to raise the solar sails. Once they’re up Gilban, funnel as much power as you can to the guns first and then the engine. Shields after that if there’s anything left. I want to give Deliva a face full of plasma cannon before we get out of here.

GILBAN TRICKEY

You got it captain.

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR, EQUIPMENT BEING PREPARED

INT. DELIVA'S DESTROYER - BOARDING DECK - DAY

DELIVA FLUR

Alright knuckle up you bad asses! Regina Rex is not going to go down without a fight! By now she probably knows I’m the reason they’re sitting in the dark. That doesn’t mean this will be easy.

Even without electrical weapons they will have some defenses when we board.

SOUND: GUNS BEING COCKED AND READY, LAUGHING, GRUNTS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

DELIVA FLUR (CONT'D)

The laser cutter for their hatch is up first, that’s you Markus. Once we’ve breached, concussion grenades and gas to take out their first line of defense. We move in after that. Larkin, I want your crew to go straight to engineering. Kill anyone who gets in the way and get control of that engine. The rest of us take the bridge. No-one kills Regina, she’s mine and The Ching She will be ours!

SOUND: HOOTING AND SHOUTING, TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR

INT. THE CHING SHE - STARBOBARD DEFENSES - DAY

SEREBELLA REON

Ok Captain, take a seat.

SOUND: SETTLING INTO A SEAT, STRAPS BEING PUT ON

SEREBELLA REON (CONT'D)

Put these straps on. Ok, shit’s going to get real very quickly. As soon as the power is up, press this button; it gives you manual control over the guns. Next, you’ll hit this switch to turn on targeting.

After that, grab this handle, use the crosshairs on the scope to aim and start firing with the trigger right here. Just like a video game.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’ve heard of those but I’ve never actually played one.

SEREBELLA REON

You’ve lived a sheltered life Captain, you have no idea what you’re missing.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Hey, about earlier. I’m not sure what I said but I never meant to offend you.

SEREBELLA REON

Forget it. It’s not important. If we get through this you can make it up to me by letting me kick your ass at a video game.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

You’re on. Maybe that will be good practice the next time we have to do this.

SEREBELLA REON

If there is a next time, get ready.

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, “MECHANICAL” SILENCE, FOOTSTEPS INT. THE CHING SHE - STERN MAINSAIL STATION - DAY

GILBAN TRICKEY

Alright, we’re at the mainsail station. Everyone should be in place. I’ll have to work the computer once it’s up as quickly as I can so I’ll need you to work the levers to raise the sails. There are 3 of them total, the stern sail, along with the starboard and port side sails.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Where do you want me to start?

GILBAN TRICKEY

You’re going to start with the stern sail. That’s the big one that will supply the main power. We need it up first. You’ll do port second and starboard third.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Got it.

GILBAN TRICKEY

You’re going to have to move quickly Nova, as soon as Deliva spots the sail going up, she’s going to realize what we’re up to. They’re still pretty far away but we don’t have all the time in the universe for this.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Won’t they just open fire if they see the sails going up?

GILBAN TRICKEY

Not likely, she’s wanted this ship for herself for a long time. I doubt she’d risk damaging it.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

That’s good.

GILBAN TRICKEY

What they’ll do most likely is board us and kill everyone instead of harming the ship.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Oh.

SOUND: MOVING THINGS AROUND

GILBAN TRICKEY

Start pumping that center lever Nova and once you start, don’t stop until the lever stops. Once it does get on the port lever.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Alright, here we go.

SOUND: LEVER PUMPING (CONTINUOUS)

GILBAN TRICKEY

Keep going, faster!

SOUND: PUMPING CONTINUED

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Well damn, I need to work out my arms more!

GILBAN TRICKEY

Don’t waste your breath, you’re going to need it.

INT. DELIVA'S DESTROYER - BOARDING DECK - DAY

DESTROYER PILOT

(over speaker) Uh Captain Flur?

SOUND: BUTTON BEING PRESSED

DELIVA FLUR

What?

DESTROYER PILOT

It looks like the Ching She is trying to raise her sails.

DELIVA FLUR

Dammit! That might restore their power!

DESTROYER PILOT

Should we fire?

DELIVA FLUR

No you dumb-ass! Do you know how hard those sails are to repair? I want that ship intact! Move in on her!

DESTROYER PILOT

Uh, captain, I really think we’re taking a risk. We should at least take out the first sail, that would give us time to...

DELIVA FLUR

I didn’t ask for your opinion, I gave you an order you peon! Know your role!

DESTROYER PILOT

Yes Captain.

DELIVA FLUR

Now, speed the hell up and close the gap before they can start moving.

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR, PUMPING SOUND, NOVA BREATHING HEAVY, LOW ELECTRICAL POWER BUZZ AND HUM

INT. THE CHING SHE - STERN MAINSAIL STATION - DAY

GILBAN TRICKEY

Keep it up Nova, it’s almost there!

NOVA BAYFLOWER

(breathing hard)

When?! I swear this is never going to...

SOUND: LOUD METALLIC CLUNK, LEVER STOPS PUMPING

NOVA BAYFLOWER (CONT'D)

SOUND: COMPUTER BOOTING UP, KEYBOARD BEING USED

GILBAN TRICKEY

1 down! 2 to go!

NOVA BAYFLOWER

(still panting)

I really want to punch you right now but my arms are too sore.

GILBAN TRICKEY

(while working on a computer)

They’re going to be a lot more sore when you’re done with those other sails. Tell you what, when we’re done with this little skirmish I’ll give you a full body massage.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

I bet you’d love that.

GILBAN TRICKEY

I bet you would too, get pumping!

SOUND: NEXT LEVER PUMPING, TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR, BOARDING CREW GETTING EQUIPMENT READY

DESTROYER PILOT

(over speaker) Captain Flur?

DELIVA FLUR

What now?

DESTROYER PILOT

They’re not moving.

DELIVA FLUR

Good, that dumb bitch didn’t get enough power going yet to get that big ass boat moving. How close are we?

DESTROYER PILOT

We’ll be in docking range in about

4 minutes.

DELIVA FLUR

Fabulous! This is it everyone. Helmets on, laser cutter up front!

SEREBELLA REON

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(from down the corridor) What?

SEREBELLA REON

Deliva’s destroyer is so close I can see the name on the front of her ship.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yeah, I’ve been watching. What does that mean?

SEREBELLA REON

It means that she’s close enough that we’re going have a much easier target to hit.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

What kind of guns are these?

SEREBELLA REON

High energy plasma based ion cannons. It takes a little while to charge them which makes it look like we’re not doing anything.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Ohhh, wow, so it looks like we can’t get moving when we’re actually...

SEREBELLA REON

Luring them in much closer before we...

GILBAN TRICKEY

(over speaker)

Captain Rex, we’ve got coms back.

REGINA REX

(over speaker) And weapons?

GILBAN TRICKEY

Blast away.

REGINA REX

You heard him. Starboard guns, fire at will! Gilban, get power routed to the shields and the engines as fast as you can.

SEREBELLA REON

Woohoo! Light ‘em up!!

SOUND: BUTTONS BEING PRESSSED, GUN MOVING INTO POSITION, TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR

DESTROYER PILOT

Captain Flur?

DELIVA FLUR

Little busy, will you please stop bothering me with trivial crap?

We’re getting ready to...

DESTROYER PILOT

(interrupting)

Captain Flur! It looks like their guns are tracking us!

DELIVA FLUR

Impossible! Their defense computers wouldn’t have booted in time!

DESTROYER PILOT

What if they’re not using the computers?!

DELIVA FLUR

DESTROYER PILOT

Yes! You dumb shit!!

DELIVA FLUR

Evasive action! Shields!! Battle stations!

INT. THE CHING SHE - STERN MAINSAIL STATION - DAY

GILBAN TRICKEY

The third sail is almost there Nova! This will give us the engines!

SOUND: LOUD CLUNK, LEVER STOPPING

NOVA BAYFLOWER

(completely out of breath) No...more pumping.

SOUND: NOVA SLUMPING TO THE FLOOR, FEVERISH KEYBOARD TYPING, MACHINERY WHIRRING TO LIFE, BUTTONS BEING PRESSED

GILBAN TRICKEY

Captain! We have power routed to the starboard shields and the engines!

REGINA REX

(over speaker)

Great work! Get back to engineering, I want the rest of those shields raised. I’ll be firing up main engines in a minute, Nova, get back to the bridge.

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR WITH DAMAGE, STEAM SOUNDS, ELECTRICAL STATIC, METAL RATTLIING, CONCUSSION SOUNDS FROM LASER CANNONS, VARIOUS ALERTS SOUNDING

INT. DELIVA'S DESTROYER - BRIDGE - DAY

DELIVA FLUR

(sounding stressed)

Damage report! Hurry up we haven’t got all day!

DESTROYER PILOT

Main engines are damaged, we’re at 44% power. Shields are at 30%.

DELIVA FLUR

Guns!! What about our guns?!

DESTROYER PILOT

Guns and guidance also damaged, the guns aren’t functioning.

DELIVA FLUR

Are you really telling me that we don’t have a singlegun we can fire at them?

DESTROYER PILOT

Yes, captain, that’s what I’m telling you.

DELIVA FLUR

You incompetent, stupid...!

DESTROYER PILOT

We’re being hailed.

DELIVA FLUR

DESTROYER PILOT

The Ching She, she’s hailing us.

DELIVA FLUR

Put her on speaker.

SOUND: SPEAKER CRACKLING

REGINA REX

(over speaker) Can you hear me now?

DELIVA FLUR

You bitch! You’ll pay for this!

REGINA REX

Pay for what? Defending ourselves? You started this mess.

DELIVA FLUR

I’m going to hunt you down again Regina, and when I do...

REGINA REX

You’ll do what? Fail again?

DELIVA FLUR

This isn’t over...

REGINA REX

Oh yes it is. And here’s why, if I ever detect your ship within a hundred thousand miles of mine, I’ll steer right in your direction and obliterate you into the cosmos the second you’re in range. You can’t match me in a fair fight and you know it.

DELIVA FLUR

Your ship and the Cambridge contract are mine.

REGINA REX

Really? Then you should turn around and claim both here and now. Come on! Come get ‘em!

DELIVA FLUR

Turn the ship and put us on an attack approach.

DESTROYER PILOT

Are you out of your damn mind?! They’ll kill us!

DELIVA FLUR

REGINA REX

Hey, if you’re on Deliva’s crew you might want to ask yourself if she’s worth dying for like her last crew. I would suggest looking for a better captain to crew with.

DELIVA FLUR

Shut the hell up!! Shut off coms; turn back around and face them!!

SOUND: ENGINES CRANKING UP MORE

DELIVA FLUR (CONT'D)

What are you doing? I said turn around, not speed up!

DESTROYER PILOT

I think it’s time for you to shut the hell up. I’m not dying for your dumb, egomaniacal ass.

DELIVA FLUR

This is mutiny! I’ll have you executed for this!

DESTROYER PILOT

No, you won’t. Security officer! I’m declaring Captain Flur unfit and am assuming control of this ship. Does anyone have a problem with that?

SOUND: MURMURS OF APPROVAL

DESTROYER PILOT (CONT'D)

Good, take her to the brig.

DELIVA FLUR

What? No!! You can’t!

SOUND: STRUGGLING, DELIVA BEING DRAGGED AWAY BY HER CREW, TRANSITION SOUND, SHIP INTERIOR

NOVA BAYFLOWER

They’re still flying away from us. They haven’t turned at all.

REGINA REX

Her little destroyer is no match for the Ching She in a proper battle. She at least knows that much, she won’t be back anytime soon.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Whew. At least we can get everything repaired now.

REGINA REX

I’m not really worried much about the repairs.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

No? What’s wrong then?

REGINA REX

I’m worried about why we couldn’t see her on the scopes to begin with.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Do you think the scopes are damaged?

REGINA REX

No, the scopes have never given me problems before. My feelings are that they’re fine. I’m concerned about sabotage.
