RUN

NARRATOR

Season 3, episode 11. Previously on VOID, Nova continues to express an arrogant attitude towards Jonas and now even to ship captain Regina Rex. The Ching She docked with the Mars Galactic Fuel Depot only to find it strangely empty. Anko caught another stowaway trying to sneak on board. And the crew found themselves in serious trouble discovering they weren’t alone after all.

SOUND: FRANTIC RUNNING, EVERONE BREATHING HEAVY

INT. MARS GALACTIC FUELING DEPOT - CORRIDOR - NIGHT REGINA REX

(all dialog while running until stop)

Just keep running!! Gilban, try calling Anko again!

GILBAN TRICKEY

I did! I’m telling you none of the coms are working!

REGINA REX

How is that possible?

GILBAN TRICKEY

How should I know?!

URSULA NASH

(panicking) What about Aluna?!

GIDEON JUDGE

She’s gone! I saw them take her! There’s nothing we can do!

URSULA NASH

This sucks!!

GILBAN TRICKEY

Don’t stop! The hatch I broke is only going to keep them out for so long!

SOUND: RUNNING CONTINUED, TRANSITION SOUND, DRINKS AND FOOD BEING SERVED

INT. THE CHING SHE - MEAL HALL - NIGHT

ANKO LUMEN

Ok Zeven. We’re inside the ship, it’s sealed tight, our security is up and you have some food in your belly. Time to tell me your story. What happened here?

ZEVEN

(reluctant and scared, finishing eating something)

Like I told you, my family came here on our ship the Wellspring. We got here about 9 months ago to do a mineral delivery.

ANKO LUMEN

Who is here with you? Do you have brothers or sisters?

ZEVEN

It was just the four of us, my mom, dad and my big sister.

ANKO LUMEN

Where are they?

SOUND: ZEVEN STRUGGLING, UNTENCILS SETTLE ON PLATE, EATING STOPS

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Come on Zeven, don’t hold back on me now.

ZEVEN

I don’t know! Ok?

ANKO LUMEN

Are they still...

ZEVEN

(interrupting with outburst)

They took my mom! She’s one of them now! My dad and sister are dead!

They, they...They ate them!!

ANKO LUMEN

Cannibals?

ZEVEN

They eat the people who dock here!

ANKO LUMEN

What do you mean your mom is one of them?

ZEVEN

There’s something wrong with them. My dad said something about radiation leaks and mutations.

After they killed my dad and sister, my mom didn’t want them to take me. She gave herself up because she thought she could talk to them. But they just ended up making her one of them.

ANKO LUMEN

I’m so sorry. How do you know all this?

ZEVEN

I followed her when she surrendered and snuck in through the vents. I could see and hear everything. They stuck her in the fuel room where the plutonium is. That’s where the radiation leak came from my dad was talking about. They mutated her.

She’s not my mom anymore.

ANKO LUMEN

Who did this? Who are they?

ZEVEN

I don’t know. My dad thought they were wearing ripped up uniforms.

ANKO LUMEN

Security uniforms?

ZEVEN

Maybe. They have a leader, Commander Ulyx.

ANKO LUMEN

How have you survived this long?

ZEVEN

They never checked the vents and they gave up hunting me. They mainly stay at their base unless a ship docks.

ANKO LUMEN

Wait, what do you mean?

ZEVEN

They have a trap laid out for anyone that docks here.

ANKO LUMEN

A trap?! What kind of trap?

ZEVEN

They have the hatches locked down so when you walk into the depot it leads to a dead end where they lure everyone.

ANKO LUMEN

Oh shit!

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, RUNNING, HATCH CLOSING, CONTROLS BEING SMASHED, RUNNING FOOTSTEPS COMING TO A STOP, EVERYONE PANTING / OUT OF BREATH

INT. MARS GALACTIC FUELING DEPOT - MEDICAL BAY - NIGHT

URSULA NASH

(everyone talking out of breath and then settled)

I have to stop, I have to stop!

REGINA REX

Ok, ok, I think we all need a breather. Gilban, how are those hatches doing?

GILBAN TRICKEY

I think we’re good for awhile. I sealed the last 5 behind us.

They’re pretty damn heavy so it will take them awhile to get through.

SEREBELLA REON

Unless they know another way around.

GILBAN TRICKEY

Well, yeah, there’s that.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

There were a couple of junctions that split off back there, hopefully they don’t know which direction we went.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

So what the hell were those things?

GIDEON JUDGE

They “sort of” looked like people.

REGINA REX

But mutated. Remember those logs in the command center? I think this is the end result.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

They barely looked liked there were humans in there, except for the ripped clothing.

GIDEON JUDGE

Did you notice a lot of them were wearing the same colors? It looked like...

REGINA REX

(cutting him off)

The security force here, what’s left of them anyway.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Where is everyone else then?

REGINA REX

No idea. Right now our priority is to get back to the ship.

URSULA NASH

What about Aluna? We can’t leave her here!

REGINA REX

We have no idea where they took her! None! How do you propose we find her?

URSULA NASH

I, I don’t know.

REGINA REX

Exactly. If we go after her blindly we risk killing all of us.

URSULA NASH

It’s not fair!

REGINA REX

I know it’s not but we have no choice.

SEREBELLA REON

We could grab some serious fire power and our body armor back at the ship and take a shot at getting her back from these bastards.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

You saw how many of them there are didn’t you? It would be suicide!

I’m not going back there for the sake of some girl we found on the moon!

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(to himself) Selfish bitch.

NOVA BAYFLOWER

What did you say?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

You heard me! The Nova I know, the one from Earth wouldn’t be so quick just to leave an innocent girl behind to save her own ass!

NOVA BAYFLOWER

Then I guess you don’t know me so well, do you?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I guess not!

NOVA BAYFLOWER

I wised up Jonas and learned we’re all on our own out here! I suggest you do the same.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

All on our own? Look around you! Our crew is here, you’re not on your own so stop acting like you’re some lone wolf! Aluna is part of the crew like all of us! If it was you that was taken, you damn well know I would try like hell to get you back.

GILBAN TRICKEY

So would I.

REGINA REX

Enough! You two fighting isn’t going to solve anything.

SEREBELLA REON

They weren’t carrying any weapons other then some knives, axes, hammers, stuff like that. I didn’t see any guns.

REGINA REX

Maybe Serebella’s right. We have enough fire power to level those pricks. Let’s get back to the ship. We’re going to arm ourselves to the teeth. Looks like I’m siding with you on this one Jonas.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Great, of all the times to agree with me, this is the one you pick.

SOUND: TRANSITION SOUND, KEYPAD, PROCESSING SOUNDS

INT. THE CHING SHE - BRIDGE - NIGHT

ANKO LUMEN

Here it is.

ZEVEN

What’s that?

ANKO LUMEN

It’s the digital blueprints for the depot along with a detailed report. Now be quiet and let me think.

SOUND: KEYPAD, PROCESSING CONTINUED

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Rotating staff of about 200 throughout most of the departments. Except this one, security staff at 100, all permanent. So, just the depot there would be roughly 300.

How many people were on your ship? Were there crew beside your family?

ZEVEN

Yeah, we had 4 others that were on the ship.

ANKO LUMEN

(thinking out loud, working on the computer)

So 8 total on your ship. Hmmm, ship manifests for...

SOUND: KEYPAD, PROCESSING

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Now we’re talking. There are 9 other ships out there besides yours Zeven. Did you see other people from those ships before everything happened?

ZEVEN

Yeah, for a short time. We arrived here on the day they took over.

There were people just walking around, everything was normal and then they attacked from all sides about 2 hours after we got here.

ANKO LUMEN

They killed everyone then?

ZEVEN

No, some they kept like my mom.

ANKO LUMEN

Great, so that means maybe even more.

SOUND: KEYPAD, ETC. CONT.

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Shit.

ZEVEN

What’s wrong?

ANKO LUMEN

A couple of these ships had small crews like yours. But these 2; one of them had 70 on their crew and the other had 93. That’s not good. Do they ever get out to the docks?

ZEVEN

Not usually.

ANKO LUMEN

Makes sense, there are guns mounted on most ships after all. They sound like they’re really strategic for being a bunch of mutants. How much do you know about Commander Ulyx?

ZEVEN

Not much. I’ve heard him talk and yell a bit, he seems to be the only one that talks. The rest of them are always grunting and screaming. He sounds like he’s crazy.

ANKO LUMEN

Hang on, I want to try the communicator again.

SOUND: BUTTONS PRESSED

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Captain Rex, this is Anko, can you hear me? Over.

SOUND: STATIC

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

Captain Rex, this is Anko, please respond, over.

SOUND: STATIC

ZEVEN

You really care about your crew, I know what that’s like.

ANKO LUMEN

No I don’t. But we’re not going anywhere without them since I don’t know how to fly this thing.

SOUND: KEYPAD SOUNDS

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

They have to be jamming our signal somehow. Hmmm, I wonder...

SOUND: KEYPAD CONTINUES BEING USED, TRANSITION SOUND, WALKING QUIETLY, HATCH OPENING / CLOSING, WALKING COMING TO A STOP

INT. MARS GALACTIC FUELING DEPOT - PARTS CENTER - NIGHT

GILBAN TRICKEY

I know this room.

REGINA REX

You do?

GILBAN TRICKEY

Yeah, we’re in the parts center!

REGINA REX

Great! So you know how to get back to the ship?

GILBAN TRICKEY

Hell yes I do! We’re not too far away but we’re not super close either. If we head out that hatch it’s pretty much a straight line from there.

SEREBELLA REON

I don’t like being in this room, there are way too many hatches to get in here.

REGINA REX

Ok, let’s keep...

SOUND: STATIC SOUND OVER COMMUNICATOR, VOICE CUTTING IN CLEARLY

ANKO LUMEN

(over communicator)

‘tain Rex? Are you there? Over.

SOUND: FUMBLING

REGINA REX

Anko! Can you hear me?

ANKO LUMEN

Loud and clear captain, finally. Stop wherever you are, it’s a trap!

REGINA REX

Yeah, we kind of figured that out already.

ANKO LUMEN

Oh. Sorry. Is everyone still alive?

SEREBELLA REON

Captain, I really think we should keep moving.

REGINA REX

We lost Aluna, we’re not sure if she’s still alive. The rest of us are here, we’ve been running like hell. Wait, how did you know it was a trap?

ANKO LUMEN

Found another stowaway, I’ll tell you about it later. Get back to the ship so we can get out of here.

REGINA REX

First, I don’t take orders from you Anko, know your role! Secondly, we’re not leaving right away. I need you to prep body armor and weapons for us.

ANKO LUMEN

Why?

REGINA REX

Because we’re going back after Aluna.

ANKO LUMEN

Are you mad? For her?

URSULA NASH

(walking towards Regina) That son of a bitch!

REGINA REX

Stop questioning me and do as you’re ordered!

ANKO LUMEN

(beaten down) Yes Captain Rex.

REGINA REX

We’re on our way back now Anko. Get to work. Rex out.

SOUND: COMMUNICATOR CLICKING

URSULA NASH

I’m going to punch him right in the face next time I see him.

REGINA REX

You’ll get your chance. Let’s get...

SOUND: HATCH OPENING, MULTIPLE FOOTSTEPS RUNNING, SCREAMING AND GRUNTING, SONIC COCUSSION SHOTS BEING FIRED, SOUNDS OF CHAOS, TRANSITION SOUND, WEAPONS BEING PREPPED

INT. THE CHING SHE - WEAPON STORAGE - NIGHT

ANKO LUMEN

(working and talking)

I can’t believe we’re staying for a rescue attempt! And now I’m stuck on weapons duty. Hand me those straps over there.

SOUND: SOMETHING BEING GATHERED

ZEVEN

You mean these?

ANKO LUMEN

Yes. And who does she think she is? I have more important work to do that I should be focusing on!

ZEVEN

More important than rescuing someone?

ANKO LUMEN

She’s not even part of the crew! We picked her up on the moon! It’s a long story.

ZEVEN

Well, what if it was you? Would they come for you?

ANKO LUMEN

Ha! I doubt it! That would be one less contract that Aldridge would have to honor. Rex hates me too so I’m sure she wouldn’t care. There’s no-one that likes me come to think of it.

(pauses to consider for a moment)

Except for Aluna.

ZEVEN

Who’s Aluna?

ANKO LUMEN

She’s the young girl they took. They’re not sure if she’s still alive.

ZEVEN

She’s alive, they don’t kill them right away. They wait awhile.

ANKO LUMEN

That’s good, I guess.

ZEVEN

They’ll torture her first to see what she knows. They’ll eat her afterwards. They never let the younger ones live.

ANKO LUMEN

Damn. I really wish I wasn’t aware of that.

ZEVEN

Sorry, I just thought you should know.

ANKO LUMEN

She really is a sweet girl. Really helpful too. Not overly bright but has a great disposition all the same. Aluna’s been through so much already, she doesn’t deserve this.

ZEVEN

Maybe the rescue is a good idea, huh?

ANKO LUMEN

Don’t try to school me, I got there on my own. Finish giving me a hand with these helmets.

SOUND: EQUIPMENT BEING PREPARED, HATCH OPENING / CLOSING, FOOTSTEPS, ANKO BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

(talking through a bloody nose)

What was that for?!

URSULA NASH

For being an asshole!

ANKO LUMEN

(holding his bloody nose)

I came around! Everything’s ready! Wait, where is everyone?

REGINA REX

They took Gilban and Jonas.

ANKO LUMEN

How did those 2 morons get captured?

SOUND: GUN WINDING UP, QUICK MOVEMENT

SEREBELLA REON

Go ahead and say one more shitty thing. Go ahead, I’ll kill you myself.

ANKO LUMEN

(With a gun pressed into his face)

Ow! Sorry! Sorry!

REGINA REX

Serebella, stand down! Anko, you need to shut up and not say anything unless it’s constructive. Fight your instinct to talk unless it’s absolutely necessary or not only will I allow Serebella to blast your head off, I’ll order her to. Are we clear?

ANKO LUMEN

(mmmm-hmmm agreeing sound) Completely.

REGINA REX

Who’s this?

ZEVEN

I’m Zeven.

REGINA REX

Ok, I guess this is the long story you’re going to tell me all about along with anything else you know.

SOUND: CLICKING OVER MARS DEPOT PA SYSTEM, FEEDBACK, MORE CLICKING AND FUMBLING WITH A MIC

COMMANDER ULYX

(over speaker in a distorted, menacing voice)

Abandon all hope, for you have none. You are lost and you are going nowhere. There is no escape. Better to accept your fate, you will suffer less. Give yourself over to us and be free of your life. There is nothing in the void, only your death. The end is no longer coming for you, it is here.
