NARRATOR

During the season 5 finale of VOID, Maddox Kane had escaped confinement but was caught by Serebella once again. Ursula received a message that her parents are alive but distressing news about the space station. Regina was crippled during an earlier conflict to find herself paralyzed from the waste down. The crew entered cryo-sleep for their journey to Jupiter’s moon Europa only to discover a base on the moon surface. Welcome to the 6th and final season of VOID.

INT. CHING SHE BRIDGE - DAY

REGINA REX

What do you mean a base?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Just what I said. I asked Astrid to identify the image and Astrid described it as a surface base.

REGINA REX

How did it get there?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

How the hell should I know?

REGINA REX

Astrid, scan surface base on Europa for life forms.

ASTRID

Scanning.

SOUND: SCANNING SOUND, DISTORTION FROM FAILED SCAN

ASTRID (CONT'D)

Unable to scan base due to surface interference.

REGINA REX

I was afraid of that. I guess we’re going to have to go down there.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

It looks like it. I can’t believe there’s already a base here.

REGINA REX

Who do you want on the surface team? I’m obviously out of commission. I can pilot the shuttle remotely from here but that’s about it.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yeah, sorry about that. Can you feel anything in your legs at all?

REGINA REX

Dead from the waste down.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’m so sorry Regina. Is there any chance you’ll get feeling back?

REGINA REX

After healing for 7 months in cryo and still nothing, it’s doubtful. (changing the subject)

So who is going with you to the surface?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Uh, Anko, Serebella and maybe Terry. What do you think?

REGINA REX

That sounds good.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I wonder if our new guest knows anything about that base. What was the name again? Madd something?

REGINA REX

Maddox Kane; who is in the confinement deck again for trying to escape.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Right. Can’t hurt to ask.

REGINA REX

I suppose not.

SOUND: TRANSITION

INT. CONFINEMENT DECK, DAY

MADDOX KANE

You don’t have to babysit me you know.

SEREBELLA REON

Since your breakout last time, I kinda do.

MADDOX KANE

It’s not like I’m going anywhere,

now.

SEREBELLA REON

No you’re not, but I’m keeping you under constant surveillance this time.

MADDOX KANE

I thought that you have cameras in here.

SEREBELLA REON

We do but because we missed your escape routine, I thought it better to be more hands on and see to you personally.

MADDOX KANE

Oh, I feel so special.

SEREBELLA REON

You’re special alright.

MADDOX KANE

What do you intend to do with me now that we’re... Where are we?

SEREBELLA REON

I’m not the one in charge of what’s going to happen to you. I’m only in charge of making sure you don’t escape again.

MADDOX KANE

(frustrated)

Just great, that helps.

SEREBELLA REON

(sarcastic)

Glad to be of service.

SOUND: HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

Hey Jonas.

SEREBELLA REON (CONT'D)

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Hey. I have some questions for our new friend here. I can take over for a bit if you want to pay Regina a visit.

SEREBELLA REON

Works for me. How did she seem?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Salty, but no more than usual. I think getting her on the bridge helped. How was she with you?

SEREBELLA REON

She’s adjusting but it’s difficult. Thanks for keeping an eye on her.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Happy to.

SEREBELLA REON

Keep an eye on this one too. She’s a tricky one.

MADDOX KANE

They. I identify as they.

SEREBELLA REON

Oh, well they are a tricky one.

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, HATCH

JONAS ALDRIDGE

We haven’t been formerly introduced; I’m Dr. Jonas Aldridge. Nice to meet you Maddox Kane.

MADDOX KANE

What can I do for you Dr. Aldridge?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Call me Jonas. I’m curious about where you come from.

MADDOX KANE

I’m from an outpost called Nepenthe located in the habitable zone of Alpha Centauri.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

All the way out there? How is that even possible?

MADDOX KANE

My ancestors began the journey from the station many years ago before I was born. It took 2 generations of time and effort to travel there and set up our base.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(excited)

How big of a community are we talking? Could the people from Earth...

MADDOX KANE

(cutting him off)

Don’t get too excited Jonas. It’s a very small community of 100 people. No more, no less. We don’t live on the planet surface but on a station in orbit. And as far as the people of Earth actually traveling over 4 light years to get there, not very realistic.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I guess not. So, the artifact is how you got here, when you and Gilban switched places.

MADDOX KANE

I think you mean the crystal, yes. They’re portals. In fact, if you can get me the crystal, I can perhaps show you...

JONAS ALDRIDGE

It’s gone.

MADDOX KANE

Wait, what? What do you mean gone?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Captain Rex had it sent out the airlock.

MADDOX KANE

(surprised and angry)

She what?? You idiots!! I can’t believe you did that!!

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Well, I’m not sure...

MADDOX KANE

You do realize that we can’t get your friend back and I’m stuck here! You do understand that, right?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I, uh, wasn’t aware, that...

MADDOX KANE

(to themselves, pacing)

Oh, I can’t believe this! And now I’m emotional! I NEVER get emotional. This is completely unacceptable! How can you all be so ignorant!

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Ok, that’s enough. You’ll have to excuse...

MADDOX KANE

(cutting him off)

Excuse the fact that I was raised purely by scientists in a science- based community and none of you were? Do I have to excuse the fact that my intelligence isn’t even measurable on the same charts as yours? Do you have any idea how frustrating that is?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’m sorry you’re frustrated. I really am. Unfortunately, until the captain makes a decision, this is where we are. The artif..., crystal is gone and there’s nothing we can do about it.

MADDOX KANE

(calming down)

I suppose you’re right. About that at least.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Look, the reason I came to talk to you is that we found a base on Europa.

MADDOX KANE

Jupiter? We’re all the way back to Jupiter?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yes. And when we woke from cryo, we scanned the surface and found a base.

MADDOX KANE

Oh, you found the 5’s secret little terra forming project.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

What?? This came from the station?

MADDOX KANE

It was a failed project. Went dark years ago. The powers of the station trying to expand their territory. They wanted the resources on Europa but couldn’t get the technology right to make it work so it was abandoned.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

And people don’t know?

MADDOX KANE

Not sure, we don’t keep up with base politics since we don’t get many visitors. You didn’t know?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’m from Earth.

MADDOX KANE

(suddenly fascinated)

Are you really? I’m never met anyone from Earth before. I have so many questions.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

So do I. Maybe we can help each other. You see, I’m trying to help save the people of Earth.

MADDOX KANE

Oh. Well, that’s nice of you but it’s kind of a futile effort.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I know, everyone says that.

MADDOX KANE

No, I mean, Earth won’t be around much longer.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

What are you talking about?

MADDOX KANE

Before I give you anything, I’m not comfortable being stuck in a cell. Do something about that and maybe we can help each other.

SOUND: TRANSITION, MOVING THINGS AROUND, UNPACKING

INT. MENDLESON’S QUARTERS - DAY

PAT MENDELSON

It’s about damn time we get our own cabin.

TERRY MENDELSON

Yeah, this is way less crammed than the guest quarters.

PAT MENDELSON

It’s time we talk about our next move.

TERRY MENDELSON

Don’t you think it’s a little soon? We just got out of cryo.

PAT MENDELSON

No, that’s why now is the time. Everyone is still confused and getting their shit together. Not to mention their new prisoner is a distraction.

TERRY MENDELSON

Good point. They’re wrapped up in dealing with Regina’s new condition too.

PAT MENDELSON

Exactly. We need to start with you taking over Gilban’s job as engineer.

TERRY MENDELSON

Are you serious? I can’t work at the same level he was! I mean, I’m fair with machinery but I don’t know anything about a ship like this.

PAT MENDELSON

I guess it’s going to be fake-it- until-you-make-it then, isn’t it?

TERRY MENDELSON

That’s all well and good but if I screw something up it gets us killed too if the ship blows up.

PAT MENDELSON

Ok, then just avoid the things you don’t know until you figure it out.

TERRY MENDELSON

That’s like 90% of this ship!

PAT MENDELSON

Look, just volunteer and tell Regina you’re willing to do what it takes to learn whatever the bare essentials are.

TERRY MENDELSON

I don’t think it’s going to be that simple.

PAT MENDELSON

I do, what other option does she have? No-one besides you has any kind of machinery experience.

TERRY MENDELSON

Anko does.

PAT MENDELSON

Yes, but all he cares about are his own machines. He’s not about to get his hands dirty working on the ship.

TERRY MENDELSON

What makes you so sure?

PAT MENDELSON

I know Anko, don’t forget I’ve been working very closely with him.

TERRY MENDELSON

How close? Have you slept with him yet?

PAT MENDELSON

Not yet, I’m waiting for the right time to approach him.

TERRY MENDELSON

(playful)

Do you think he’ll be interested in a, you know, third party?

PAT MENDELSON

I don’t know if he’s bi or not yet Terry. Geez, keep it in your pants for the time being.

TERRY MENDELSON

Fine, whatever.

PAT MENDELSON

When you get into engineering you’ll need to figure out our...

TERRY MENDELSON

“Tactical advantages”, yes I know. What are you going to be doing?

PAT MENDELSON

I now have access to all the security so I’ll be getting to know that better. Between the 2 of us, we should be able to take significant control of the ship when the time is right.

SOUND: TRANSITION, MEDICAL DEVICE SCANNING

INT. MEDICAL OFFICES - DAY

URSULA NASH

(as scan is finishing)

And that should do it. Give it a moment to finish processing.

SOUND: PROCESSING AND FINISHING

URSULA NASH

(looking over results)

Done! Annnnd, everything is looking pretty good Anko. Vitals read fine, blood, oxygen levels, etc. You are in the clear.

ANKO LUMEN

Thank you for another thorough post- cryo exam doc.

URSULA NASH

My pleasure. What are your plans?

ANKO LUMEN

(unsure of himself)

To start prepping the equipment for the surface. Looks like we’re going to give it another go.

URSULA NASH

You sound uncharacteristically uncertain of yourself Anko. What gives?

BRIEF PAUSE

ANKO LUMEN

Titan was a hard lesson for me. I was so certain, my math was perfect and then...Nothing worked. I mean, nothing! And it dawned on me that the uncertainty of science is one of the things that drew me to it.

URSULA NASH

Sounds like you had an epiphany.

ANKO LUMEN

I did. But it also changed my, confidence? Ego? I don’t know. It sent me back to the drawing board.

URSULA NASH

Jonas must’ve loved that moment.

ANKO LUMEN

Ha! You’d think but he’s been surprisingly supportive. He’s the one pushing me to give it a go again on Europa. He seems much more confident about my equipment than I do.

URSULA NASH

Glad he’s been in your corner. I know it’s been tense between you two.

ANKO LUMEN

It’s gotten better. We still don’t like each other much but we aren’t at each other’s throats. He seems to have mellowed a bit. Maybe I have too.

URSULA NASH

(trailing off at the end of the statement thinking of her parents)

I noticed that. We’ve all had a lot of tense moments it would seem lately.

BRIEF PAUSE

ANKO LUMEN

Are you ok?

URSULA NASH

(uncomfortable) I’m fine.

ANKO LUMEN

Come on, what’s wrong?

URSULA NASH

(reluctant)

I haven’t told anyone yet. Before I went into cryo, I received a message from the station that my parents are alive.

ANKO LUMEN

That’s amazing! That’s great news!

BRIEF PAUSE

Isn’t it?

ANKO LUMEN (CONT'D)

URSULA NASH

Yes, and no. I mean yes, but it raises so many questions. Where are they? What are they doing? Why haven’t they contacted me all this time? Did they abandon me? Are they being held prisoner?

ANKO LUMEN

I see. Are you going to try to connect with them?

URSULA NASH

No, not yet. I was told there’s something happening at the station.

ANKO LUMEN

What?

URSULA NASH

I don’t know. Max said to not send any messages until I hear from him; that it’s not safe.

ANKO LUMEN

Not safe? What does that mean? Should I contact my people?

URSULA NASH

You might want to just send a general message to say hi. See what you can find out. We’re in the dark here.

ANKO LUMEN

We should warn the others.

URSULA NASH

No! Not everyone, I don’t trust the Mendlesons.

ANKO LUMEN

You really don’t like them do you?

URSULA NASH

He’s ok, kind of an idiot. But her, I really think she’s up to something.

ANKO LUMEN

(joking around)

Maybe you’re jealous because Pat works so closely with me.

URSULA NASH

Don’t go there you jerk! That was a one time thing and you know it.

ANKO LUMEN

I know. I also know you still have feelings for Jonas.

URSULA NASH

I do. But now doesn’t seem like the right time.

ANKO LUMEN

With all that’s happened to us, maybe don’t keep waiting for the “right” time. You might miss out on something important.

SOUND: TRANSITION, EMBRACING

INT. CHING SHE BRIDGE - DAY

REGINA REX

I can’t feel my legs. I don’t know if I ever will again.

SEREBELLA REON

I know.

REGINA REX

I don’t know if I’ll ever walk again. What am I going to do?

SEREBELLA REON

We’re going to take it day by day is what we’regoing to do. I’m in this with you, together.

REGINA REX

Oh come on. You’re not going to want to stay with me. Why would you? I’ll just be a burden.

SEREBELLA REON

Are you serious? Do you honestly believe I would abandon you?

REGINA REX

(frustrated, angry) It’s what I would do.

SEREBELLA REON

Bullshit and you know it.

REGINA REX

And what if my condition is permanent? What then?

SEREBELLA REON

What if it is? I’m not going anywhere.

REGINA REX

You seriously want to do this? Stay with me?

SEREBELLA REON

(getting closer)

Yes, of course. That’s not even a question.

REGINA REX

You have no idea what you’re signing on for. Neither do I.

SEREBELLA REON

Whatever it is, we’ll face it as a team, a family. You’re not alone anymore Regina.

REGINA REX

I know, it’s something I have to get used to. I’m usually the one who bails when things go south.

SEREBELLA REON

No more bailing.

REGINA REX

No more bailing.

SOUND: EMBRACE, TRANSITION, EXERCISE EQUIPMENT, HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

INT. CHING SHE GYM - LATE AFTERNOON

URSULA NASH

(walking in, awkward)

Oh! Jonas! Didn’t know you were here working out.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(while working out) It’s all good!

URSULA NASH

(hesitant)

You sure you don’t want the place to yourself?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Not at all. It would be nice to have company after sleeping for 7 months, 13 days, 8 hours and how ever many seconds.

Ok.

URSULA NASH

(chuckling)

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, TREADMILL

URSULA NASH (CONT'D)

(while on treadmill) How are you feeling?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Pretty good. My muscles are...

URSULA NASH

No, I meant, how are youfeeling?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Oh. Better. I was pretty out of my head there for awhile as you know.

URSULA NASH

Yeah, we were all pretty aware of that.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Well, I’m sorry I put you all through my emotional turmoil. I’m afraid that was new ground for me to navigate.

URSULA NASH

You seem much better, more like the “old” you.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I don’t think the “old” me is ever coming back but I’m trying to become a better version of that guy.

BRIEF PAUSE

URSULA NASH

(reluctant)

I uh, found out that my parents are alive.

SOUND: EXERCISE BIKE STOPPING

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Really? Wow! That’s incredible! I’m so happy for you!

Thanks.

URSULA NASH

JONAS ALDRIDGE

You seem less enthused than I thought you’d be.

URSULA NASH

I’m more concerned than elated. Why haven’t they contacted me all this time Jonas?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I didn’t think of it like that. Have you tried to contact them?

URSULA NASH

Not yet, there’s something happening at the station but I don’t know what yet.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Is there any way I can help? I’m afraid I don’t really have anyone at the station I contact so...

URSULA NASH

It’s ok. I appreciate you just listening. It’s nice to be able to talk to you again like this.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Sure. I wish I could do more.

URSULA NASH

It’s a lot to process. I can’t do much else but wait to hear from Max at this point.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

You could talk to Regina and Serebella to see if they can contact their people on the station to find out what’s going on.

URSULA NASH

I already have Anko on the case but yes, I should talk to Regina and Serebella too.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Anko’s helping?

URSULA NASH

Believe it or not, yes.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Wow. So, are you two, you know...A thing?

URSULA NASH

No, we’re not “a thing”. That was a one and done event, nothing more.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Oh. Not that it’s any of my business.

URSULA NASH

(playful)

Not that it’s any of your business.

PREGNANT PAUSE

URSULA NASH (CONT'D)

Are you ok? You seem to get concerned about something all of a sudden.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yeah, I’m ok. It’s something that Maddox said. I don’t know if I can trust this person.

URSULA NASH

What did Maddox tell you?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

That Earth isn’t going to around for much longer.

URSULA NASH

Why?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I don’t know, that was the end of the conversation.

URSULA NASH

Do you think it’s worth investigating?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’m not sure. I know Maddox is frustrated to be stuck here and not super thrilled to help us. I’ve set up an all crew meeting with Regina to discuss everything.

SOUND: TRANSITION

INT. THE CHING SHE - BRIDGE - EVENING

REGINA REX

We’ve called you all to this meeting to discuss our next move as well as our guest and Gilban. Let’s start with me first and get this out of the way.

PAUSE A MOMENT

REGINA REX (CONT'D)

(reluctant, frustrated)

I’m paralyzed from the waste down. We have no idea if I’ll ever get the use of my legs back. What that means is I’ll probably need some extra help on the bridge from time to time. IfI require assistance, I will let you know. So from here on out, I don’t want a lot of stupid questions about my condition because you all know what I know.

That’s the end of that. Next, let’s discuss the plan for Europa. Jonas?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’ll be leading the away team which will consist of myself, Anko, Serebella and Terry. We’ll first make contact on the surface and then into the base. Uh, as for piloting the shuttle?

REGINA REX

I’ll handle that remotely from the bridge.

URSULA NASH

What about the surface radiation?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

After looking at Astrid’s scan of the base we discovered that it was built to handle the radiation.

Oxygen is one of the things we’re not sure about so we’ll be taking some replacement tanks for the breathers so we have time to explore.

PAT MENDELSON

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it super cold there? I thought the whole thing was one big ball of ice.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Basically, yes. The average temperature hovers around -142 celsius. Our suits will keep us protected long enough for us to get into the base.

TERRY MENDELSON

And if the base doors are sealed shut?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

That’s why you’ll be in charge of the laser cutter. We have Serebella overseeing security. Anko you’ll need to begin preliminary evaluations for your equipment and what you want to bring down to the surface.

ANKO LUMEN

Roger that.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Upon completion of our first trip, Captain Rex will pilot us back up from the surface to prep Anko’s equipment. Questions?

PAT MENDELSON

Where do I fit in?

REGINA REX

You’ll be assisting me here on the bridge.

PAT MENDELSON

Got it.

TERRY MENDELSON

And what if we encounter any hostile elements?

REGINA REX

Astrid’s scan found no life forms.

SEREBELLA REON

As for any conflicts, I’ll run point and you’ll do as I say.

TERRY MENDELSON

Works for me.

REGINA REX

You’ll receive the timetable from Jonas, we hit the surface tomorrow. Next order of business is Gilban and this damned artifact situation.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

After speaking with Maddox, I think Gilban’s gone. It sounds like that crystal was the only way to swap them back again.

REGINA REX

Do you think they were telling you the truth?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I have no reason to think they would lie. I’m not sure how that would benefit them.

SEREBELLA REON

Are you saying there’s no way to get Gilban back? Can’t we just fly there to wherever he ended up?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Sure, but it’s going to take about

4 light years to get there. That is, unless the warp drive is...

REGINA REX

Is extremely untested. We used it once and it nearly destroyed the ship. Not really the best option.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Then, I have no idea.

REGINA REX

For now we have to consider Gilban stranded wherever he is.

ANKO LUMEN

What about this Maddox person? I’m not sure a prisoner situation is ideal given our circumstances.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Maddox seemed to know something about the Earth being in danger but wasn’t very forthcoming with any details. We really need to find a way to work with this person and get some answers.

REGINA REX

Yeah. I think it’s about time we sit down with Maddox Kane and figure out if this person is our friend or our enemy.

SEREBELLA REON

And if they’re an enemy? Can we really afford to keep a smart, dangerous person around? They’ve already escaped once.

REGINA REX

No we can’t. But that’s what airlocks are for.
