NARRATOR

In our last episode of VOID, the struggles of Regina’s handicap has begun to catch up with her. Ursula and Jonas have started to rekindle their relationship. And an explosion rocked the Europa base leaving an uncertain future about Terry.

SOUND: EXPLOSION IN THE BACKGROUND, ALERTS

INT. EUROPA BASE - CORRIDOR - NIGHT

JONAS ALDRIDGE

What the hell?

URSULA NASH

Was that an explosion?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Sure felt like it.

SEREBELLA REON

(over comms) What was that?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

We don’t know Serebella, checking in with Anko now. Anko, any idea what that explosion was?

ANKO LUMEN

(over comms)

Terry was fixing a hydrogen clog in engineering.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Is he ok?

ANKO LUMEN

I don’t know, he’s not responding to comms.

URSULA NASH

Should we go to engineering?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

What about the extent of the damage? Do we know what we’re walking into?

URSULA NASH

Maybe we should meet with Anko first and devise a plan.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Good idea. Serebella and Anko, we’re coming to the command center. We’ll figure it out there.

SOUND: TRANSITION, KEYBOARD, SHUFFLING

INT. CHING SHE BRIDGE - NIGHT

REGINA REX

This isn’t good...

PAT MENDELSON

What’s wrong?

REGINA REX

Something happened on the base. I’m getting some crazy readings here.

Astrid, run analysis of Europa base structure.

ASTRID

Affirmative, running analysis of Europa base.

SOUND: COMPUTER PROCESSING, FOOTSTEPS

MADDOX KANE

It looks like there was an energy spike.

SOUND: COMPUTER PROCESSING FINISHING

ASTRID

Analysis complete. The Europa base has been compromised. Detecting hydrogen leaks and structural damage. The rupture originated in the engineering area.

PAT MENDELSON

Terry! SOUND: KEYBOARD

REGINA REX

Jonas! Talk to me! What’s going on down there?

PAUSE A BEAT

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(over comms)

We’re trying to figure that out now Captain Rex. There was a hydrogen clog and then the explosion.

REGINA REX

Is everyone ok?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Um, we’re not sure yet. We’re on our way to the command center, I’ll get back to you when we know more. Jonas out.

PAT MENDELSON

(panicking)

What about Terry? Why didn’t he mention Terry?

REGINA REX

I understand you’re upset. Let’s give them time.

MADDOX KANE

This is why we don’t allow love to cloud our relationships. Look how upset you are.

PAT MENDELSON

Shut up Maddox.

SOUND: TRANSITION, HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

INT. EUROPA BASE - COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(as he’s walking in) What’s going on Anko?

ANKO LUMEN

(a bit upset)

There was a hydrogen clog, Terry went to check it out. The levels spiked and then it went sideways. I should’ve gone instead!

URSULA NASH

Have you heard from him?

ANKO LUMEN

(ignoring Ursula)

It should’ve been me! I know hydrogen ducts! I used to work on them...

URSULA NASH

Hey! Anko! Have you heard from him yet?

ANKO LUMEN

(snapping out of it) Not yet.

SOUND: HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

SEREBELLA REON

(walking in) What’s going on?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Stay here with Anko, he’ll explain. Ursula and I are going to investigate.

URSULA NASH

I have my med-kit ready to go.

ANKO LUMEN

(a little frantic)

I, I, I’m sorry, I didn’t know what to do.

URSULA NASH

It’s ok Anko. We’ll handle it.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yeah, just take it easy and monitor everything from here.

ANKO LUMEN

Ok.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Maybe don’t tell them anything yet on the Ching She. I feel like Pat would really freak out.

ANKO LUMEN

Sure, I’ll wait to hear back from you.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(trying to comfort him)

Sounds good. Anko, he’s probably ok. He might’ve just gotten knocked around.

SEREBELLA REON

I’m sure he’s fine. His comms might be down.

ANKO LUMEN

Yeah, maybe.

SOUND: TRANSITION, FOOTSTEPS, HATCH, “VACUUM” OF SPACE

INT. EUROPA BASE - ENGINEERING DECK - NIGHT

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Wow, that’s a really big hole.

URSULA NASH

I don’t know how he could’ve survived this.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Let’s not give up hope just yet.

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, RUBBLE BEING MOVED AROUND

URSULA NASH

(as she’s searching)

Do you think he could’ve been blasted into space?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I suppose that’s possible. Europa’s gravity is similar to Earth’s moon.

URSULA NASH

Oh boy.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(while searching)

Yeah, this doesn’t look good.

URSULA NASH

Poor Pat.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I didn’t think you liked her very much.

URSULA NASH

I don’t. But I feel bad for her if he’s gone. They seem pretty co- dependent.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I guess that’s what happens when you’re trapped in a ship with the same person for a long period of time.

URSULA NASH

To have your partner ripped away from you so suddenly would be pretty devastating.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Yeah. That kind of loss is life- changing.

URSULA NASH

Your whole world would is instantly re-defined. It’s pretty shocking.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

That would be...Hey! I think I found him! Come help me!

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, LIFTING A HEAVY OBJECT AND MOVING OTHER DEBRIS OFF TO THE SIDE

URSULA NASH

Terry!

SOUND: CHECKING TERRY

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Is he alive?

URSULA NASH

He is, although his breathing seems labored. I need to check his vitals.

SOUND: MED-KIT, SCANNING DEVICE, PROCESSING AND SOLVING

URSULA NASH (CONT'D)

His heart rate is erratic. He’s been crushed under all this debris, he may have lysis or another vascular compromise. We need to get him back to the ship immediately.

SOUND: COMMS

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Captain Rex, we need you to send Maddox with the gurney right away.

SOUND: TRANSITION, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, VARIOUS ACTIVITY

INT. CHING SHE MEDICAL OFFICE - NIGHT

URSULA NASH

Out of the way! I need everyone back right now. In fact, everyone but Pat needs to leave. There are way too many people in here.

SOUND: FEET SHUFFLING, HATCH

PAT MENDELSON

(panicking)

Is he going to be alright?

URSULA NASH

I don’t know yet.

SOUND: SITTING DOWN ON CHAIR, KEYBOARD, COMPUTER SCANNING

URSULA NASH (CONT'D)

I’m just finding out the extent of the damage now.

SOUND: SCANNING COMPLETE

URSULA NASH (CONT'D)

It looks like he’s got muscle damage to his left arm. Some cracked ribs. His left leg also has some muscle damage but no breaks.

There’s a contusion on his head but not too severe.

PAT MENDELSON

What can I do? How can I help?

URSULA NASH

Just assist me, ok? I’ll tell you if I need...oh shit.

PAT MENDELSON

What? What’s wrong?!

URSULA NASH

He’s bleeding internally. I need to do emergency surgery on him, now.

SOUND: TRANSITION, HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

INT. CHING SHE BRIDGE - NIGHT

REGINA REX

How is he?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(as he’s walking in)

Unsure. He was still unconscious when we brought him in. Ursula is working on him now.

ANKO LUMEN

(still a little shaken) It’s my fault. I never should’ve let him handle that leak alone.

REGINA REX

It’s not your fault Anko. Hydrogen leaks are tricky no matter who is dealing with them.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

You need to stop blaming yourself Anko.

REGINA REX

How bad is the damage to the base?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Not too terrible. Engineering has a big hole in it but that’s the only area that we know of that’s been compromised.

REGINA REX

Well, that’s something anyway. Is it fixable?

ANKO LUMEN

Probably. The rest of the base seems intact, we could definitely start staging after some basic repairs.

REGINA REX

What about the bacteria thing?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

We’re running another round of the air filtration purifiers. This is the fifth cycle so far, Ursula is confident the air will be safe after this round.

REGINA REX

Did you discover anything during your sweep Serebella?

SEREBELLA REON

Nothing out of the ordinary. No other bodies.

REGINA REX

Bottom line, do we move forward at this place or not.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I say yes. Me too.

ANKO LUMEN REGINA REX

Ok then, we’ll move forward tomorrow after everyone’s had some rest.

SOUND: TRANSITION, BED SHEETS STIRRING

INT. CHING SHE MEDICAL OFFICE - MORNING

TERRY MENDELSON

(waking up in pain) Ooooo, damn.

PAT MENDELSON

Terry! You’re awake!

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, HUGGING

TERRY MENDELSON

Ow, ow, ow...Take it easy honey.

PAT MENDELSON

Sorry.

URSULA NASH

Yeah, let’s not crush him any more than he’s already been. How are you feeling Terry?

TERRY MENDELSON

It’s hard to breathe, my chest is sore and my left side feels like I was trapped under an asteroid.

URSULA NASH

That sounds about right given your injuries.

PAT MENDELSON

Dr. Nash tells me that you’ll be just fine after some rest and recuperation.

TERRY MENDELSON

How bad is it doc?

URSULA NASH

Considering the damage the explosion did, it’s a miracle you’re alive. Cracked ribs and some muscle damage is all you have really. That piece of wall we found you under seems to have shielded you.

TERRY MENDELSON

I saw the build up and dived behind and a dividing wall at the last moment.

URSULA NASH

Good reflexes, they saved you.

PAT MENDELSON

My Terry has always been athletic!

TERRY MENDELSON

Thanks honey.

URSULA NASH

I want to keep you here for observation, you’ll be back in your cabin tomorrow. You can finish resting there.

TERRY MENDELSON

How long before I’m good to go?

URSULA NASH

You should be able to do some light work after 3 or 4 days. Nothing heavy duty until your ribs finish healing. They won’t take too long. I have nanites mending your ribs now.

PAUSE A BEAT

TERRY MENDELSON

(frustrated)

I’m such an idiot. I guess I’m not as prepared to work on hydrogen leaks as I thought.

URSULA NASH

I don’t think the explosion was your fault Terry.

PAT MENDELSON

(surprised) It wasn’t?

TERRY MENDELSON

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

URSULA NASH

Anko said something about an energy spike when you got back there.

PAT MENDELSON

Oh that’s good.

TERRY MENDELSON

(frustrated with Pat)

That’s good? You mean because I’m not to blame after all?

URSULA NASH

Uh, he mentioned that it might have happened because the base was shut down for so long.

PAT MENDELSON

(ignoring Ursula, getting heated)

Yes Terry, because let’s face it you’re usually at the center of the problems.

URSULA NASH

(struggling to finish her sentences without interruption)

Most likely a backup in the ducts developed with all that time...

TERRY MENDELSON

(talking over Ursula)

Oh so I’m just the one to blame by default! Is thatwhat you’re saying Pat?

PAT MENDELSON

The shoe often fits doesn’t it?

URSULA NASH

Anyway, you should probably get some...

TERRY MENDELSON

Easy for you to say from the sidelines Pat! How often do your hands actually get dirty!?

PAT MENDELSON

How dare you! With all the work I do for both of us! Or did you forget why we left the station in the first place?!

URSULA NASH

(as she’s walking out)

Uh, I’m going to go to the bridge to check in...

TERRY MENDELSON

(talking over Pat)

You said you would never bring that up again! And here you are throwing it in my face...

PAT MENDELSON

(talking over Terry)

Ok, what about the mess on Venus? Do you remember all I had to do to get us out of that?

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, HATCH, TRANSITION, HATCH, FOOTSTEPS

INT. CHING SHE BRIDGE - MORNING

REGINA REX

Hey Ursula, how’s Terry doing?

URSULA NASH

(walking in)

He’ll be fine after a few days. Unless Pat kills him first.

REGINA REX

What do you mean?

URSULA NASH

They got into a crazy fight back in the med lab. I’ve never seen them like that.

SEREBELLA REON

A fight? Those two?

URSULA NASH

Yeah, it was kind of weird. Of course people fight but it was weird seeing them fight.

SEREBELLA REON

Maybe we don’t know them as well as we think.

URSULA NASH

How’s it going on the base?

REGINA REX

Anko and Jonas are working on setting up equipment now.

URSULA NASH

And those two are ok by themselves?

SEREBELLA REON

(laughing)

I know, right? I did a sweep of the whole base, there aren’t any threats there.

URSULA NASH

Well, other than to each other you mean.

SEREBELLA REON

I don’t know, those days might be over. Anko is getting a little bit of a man-crush on Jonas I think.

URSULA NASH

What are you talking about?

SEREBELLA REON

He’s changed; especially with his feelings about Jonas.

URSULA NASH

Wow, that’s kind of amazing.

REGINA REX

I didn’t know Anko had it in him. He’s hated Jonas since we left the station.

SEREBELLA REON

He even feels like he owes him something. He wants to prove himself.

REGINA REX

Anko wants to prove himself to Jonas? Wow, he really has changed.

URSULA NASH

Let’s hope it sticks.

SOUND: TRANSITION, FOOTSTEPS, EQUIPMENT BEING MOVED AROUND AND SET UP

INT. EUROPA BASE - CORRIDOR - DAY

ANKO LUMEN

If you don’t mind, please put those by that wall.

SOUND: FOOTSTEPS, DROPPING SOME THINGS

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(while dropping equipment) Dammit!! I’m so sorry Anko. I didn’t mean to do that.

ANKO LUMEN

Are you ok? Nothing landed on your foot did it?

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(confused) No, I’m fine.

PAUSE A BEAT

JONAS ALDRIDGE (CONT'D)

(hesitant) Are you ok?

ANKO LUMEN

(while working)

I’m fine, what makes you ask?

SOUND: PICKING UP EQUIPMENT, FOOTSTEPS, MOVING AROUND

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Because the old Anko would’ve freaked out and chastised me for about 30 minutes for what I just did.

ANKO LUMEN

Oh. Yeah, I guess I would’ve.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

(back to working) Well? What gives?

ANKO LUMEN

I don’t know, I’m just kind of...Tired.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

Tired?

ANKO LUMEN

Just tired of the crap, of being angry. Of being mad at you. Of being disappointed in myself. Of the frustration of Titan.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

That’s a lot.

ANKO LUMEN

It is. And you know what? I just want to get back to science. What I’m passionate about. What was truly at the heart of why I came aboard the Ching She in the first place. I forgot all about that.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

About what?

ANKO LUMEN

The inspiration of what drives me. I got caught up in my ego and ambitions and forgot about why I love the science of it all. I just recently re-discovered that in myself.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

That’s a really great thing Anko.

ANKO LUMEN

And part of what I realized was that we way I treated you was overshadowed by fear and insecurity. Instead of seeing you as a colleague, I saw you as a threat.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I’m sorry to hear that, I never felt that way about you.

ANKO LUMEN

I know and I’m sorry I wasted so much time being a rival when I should’ve embraced your skills.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

It means a lot to hear you say all this Anko.

ANKO LUMEN

I’d like to start over again if that’s ok with you. I think together we could really achieve something here.

JONAS ALDRIDGE

I feel the same way. I’m fine with a reset. Let’s do it.

ANKO LUMEN

That’s great to hear, I think between the two of us we can figure this out. I have a strong feeling about Europa. It feels like things are finally going to turn around.
