In today's edition of the 21 News podcast, Managing Editor for News Content J. Breen Mitchell speaks about efforts to expand coronavirus testing with Dr. Lena Esmail from Youngstown's QUICKmed Urgent Care, asking the question everyone wants to know, "what will it take to get to a point where we can test everyone?"
Late last week, Gov. Mike DeWine said more testing swabs and more reagent to analyze samples will allow for more virus testing in Ohio – 7,200 a day beginning this week, with the number expected to increase to 22,000 daily by late May.
The state is expected to be testing an average of 7,200 people each day starting this week and projects to increase to 22,000 daily by late May. With the population of Ohio just under 12 million people, testing 22,000 tests per day means it will take more than 545 days for everyone in Ohio to get tested once.
Dr. Esmail also discusses whether or not we will have enough testing in place by the fall to stay ahead of any future outbreaks.
