If you are coaching in the right niche, if you have a big why, if you believe in the power of coaching, you will not feel pushy, okay? So sales is not about convincing people. It's about connecting with people. Sales is about helping people, okay? If you truly believe in the transformation of your niche and you should be your niche, then you won't feel pushy. Welcome to the Life Coach Business Building School. I'm your host, Debbie Shadid, your business coach. Every week, I'll teach you how to attract clients and grow your coaching business without paid ads. If you're ready to get clients and grow with confidence, let's dive in. Welcome, welcome to today's podcast. This is part two of the 10 reasons why coaches fail or fail. They're not successful. You guys fill in the blank why they get stuck, why they're struggling in their coaching business, why they're not profitable, why they are not able to get clients. I want to start out first by covering the first five reasons that I talked about in last week's podcast. Number one is you don't treat your business like a business. You are a coach with a coaching company. You are a coach who's also an entrepreneur and you need to become a profitable entrepreneur. It is that simple. Number two, you're not showing up. Number three, you haven't chosen a niche or even a profitable niche. You haven't narrowed your niche down enough. You aren't gutsy enough to decide what it is. We literally have four simple questions that I could ask you and I could tell you if you have a niche that's profitable or not. This is a key... I don't know, like the cornerstone of your entire business. I don't know how to express to you guys how important niching properly is. All right, number four, you can't rely on social media alone and you can't rely on a couple of social media posts. People do not just come. You have to be actively out there marketing yourself on multiple platforms. All right, number five, you don't have a clear offer or any offer. If you are on a I don't know, a sales conversation or a consultation or if you've met somebody in a networking event and you're just making up your offer on the fly based on what somebody else is saying, My dear one, it will not work like that, okay? You've got to know what your offer is. Once you decide what it is, you stand firm to your offer. The next five reasons why coaches fail. I'm sorry that I'm focusing on the negative here, but I think this is super important for you to see the reasons why coaches fail so you won't do it. The idea of this is learn from the mistakes of others, And start doing what is working, right? Do the opposite of these mistakes and you can get your business going. All right, number six, avoiding sales conversations. Yeah, and maybe you're not even asking people to meet with you. Maybe you're not even making like the invitation to work with me. You think that when you post, you know, somebody's going to just reach out to you. Nobody just reaches out to you. It is your responsibility to create the call to action and to make Basically be the one to call them in. When you go to a networking event, it's not somebody else's responsibility to follow up with you just because you passed off your business card. It is your job to follow up with them. If you are coaching in the right niche, if you have a big why, if you believe in the power of coaching, you will not feel pushy, okay? So sales is not about convincing people. It's about connecting with people. Sales is about helping people. If you truly believe in the transformation of your niche and you should be your niche, then you won't feel pushy. Get comfortable with inviting people to have a conversation. Don't even sell them coaching. This is the practice round. Just start talking to people about your coaching without any intention of making a sale, and then you'll begin to get comfortable. Okay, wait for people to say, tell me more, and then that's your entry point to start telling them. All right, reason number seven. Y'all are wasting time on the wrong things. I see this all the time. Coaches are spending so much time on crazy things like one Canva template for one social media post. Like sometimes you spend three days, like I worked three days on this social media post. I'm like, you're kidding me, right? Because you need a social media post every day. So just check yourself. Just follow the templates. If you work with us, we actually provide you an entire collection of all of my advertising materials that you can customize and make your own. Yes, I want you to look like a professional, and that's important, but seriously, you don't need to spend hours trying to reinvent the wheel. Just change the colors, change the fonts, and get the thing up. And by the way, the faster way to get on social media is to just go live and talk without creating a graphic at all, okay? Now, if it's part of your certification and you have to have a certain number of hours to be able to get certified, that is one thing, but practicing your coaching No, don't do it. You don't need to. That's just wasting time. It's not getting you clients. Creating a course. If you are creating a course, for goodness sakes, stop. Please stop. You're not ready for a course. I did not introduce all of my mini courses. Y'all know I have an entire library full of mini courses. Yeah, I do. So if you're wanting to get started with me and try it for a small bite, you can do my niche course. You can do my offer course. I mean, many different things. Shoot me a DM over on Instagram and I'll send you. all the information about my courses, but I have a lot of people on my email list. I have a big audience to sell my course to. And do you know what? The stats say that you sell one to 2% of the people that are on your list. One to 2%, so maybe you don't even have an email list, but if you have an email list of 50, what does that mean? One to 2%, okay? It is not going to work. A course is something that you do later, and the same with memberships. You guys that want to do memberships, you're doing it because you think it's cheap, like somebody will join and it's cheap. No, you have to have a lot of people to have a membership. So just sell one-to-one coaching. And then when you get full self-group coaching, you'll make far more money. It'll be far easier to sell. Business systems. Stop wasting time on fancy business systems. You are a coach right now who has zero or very few clients. You don't need a fancy business system. And guess what? Your business is not going to just quadrant overnight you're not going to have a hundred clients tomorrow and here's the reason why because you would not be prepared to handle them and I'm not talking about the business system and I know you're saying you could but can you imagine coaching a hundred clients after not having built up to it I can coach a hundred clients do you know why Because I built up to it. It's not any big deal. It doesn't make me nervous. I have no problem with it. I could coach 200 people at this point. That is not a problem. But that's because I have coached a lot of people, right? I started with one. I went up to 10. I went up to 20. You guys, you got to build up from there. So you don't need a fancy business system. I don't need a fancy business system still. So what grows your business? Conversations, making offers, following up with people, putting yourself out there. Stop hiding behind the busy work and take the action. Those income producing actions, revenue producing actions. All right, number eight, letting fear hold you back. Is that you? You are so worried about making a about being judged about failing about hearing no no no no no is two letters an N and an O that go together for a word somebody says it you receive it in your ears and you turn it into something in your mind it's simply a word okay and here's the thing with me no is not no never I never think that when somebody's like, no, I can't do it. I'm like, hmm, you know what? It's almost a challenge. I'm like, let's just keep that person around, especially if it's somebody I want to work with. I'll bet they'll be back in a year. That's kind of what I think. And it does happen that way. So to me, no, it's just no, not right now. It doesn't even hurt me. When you start thinking of it that way, it won't hurt you. So yeah, The only way that you will ever get good on social media is by doing it. Now, I have never shared this publicly. I don't think. I know I've shared it with our clients, but I know what it's like to be scared in your business. I remember when I did my first Zoom call in 2017 where I wasn't attending a Zoom call. I was doing a Zoom call that I was going to share with people. I recorded myself in my office and I remember being quiet as I was recording it because I was afraid that my husband, who was in a different part of the house was going to hear me as if he knew what I was doing, as if he could even hear me. His hearing's not great, so kind of stupid that I was worried about that. And then when I went to watch myself back, I had the volume down so low I couldn't even hear myself because I was so worried that somebody else would hear me. Literally, he's the only person in the house. He's my own husband. Why would I be worried about that? That is how scared I was. When I started recording it, that first zoom my heart was pounding so hard my throat was tight I was breathing really weird I know what it's like to be scared and today I'm on zoom all day long I can talk to as many people as you want I could walk onto a stage it's no big deal but you only get that way by starting okay you're never going to feel ready you get ready by doing right if you don't know the answer you do it and then you find the answer by doing it okay you're gonna mess up I've been on presentations where I've had a 185 slides. Yeah, you guys, wait till you get to the point where you do that. And in the middle of the presentation, I accidentally X'd out of the slides. I X'd out of the slides. And you know what happened? I had to start the presentation over with like 25 people there and go all the way back through like 112 slides to get back to where I was. Can you imagine that? Yeah, you make mistakes. And it's like, well, at least you can see this is real that I'm actually live. You know, so nobody cares. And actually, every time I make a mistake or something happens, most of the time people are like, oh, it's so good to know you're human. Okay, so number nine, reason number nine, you undercharging, you undervalue your coaching. Free coaching is not for you guys. It's not. You have to get somebody to give you an hour. You have to get somebody to pour out their heart to you. Nobody wants free coaching. Okay, now I did a lot of free coaching and I teach my clients to do free coaching, but I'm not just talking about like, hey, five free coaching sessions this weekend no they don't want a coaching session with you okay your girlfriends don't want to share their you know life with you they're your friends they're not your clients okay so the free coaching that I did so much of was a business assessment so think about this for yourself I did a business assessment I said come find out what's happening with your business and I'm going to give you you know the three steps to do once we get off the call and by the way I didn't sell coaching on the free coaching the free coaching was free coaching where I was going to be so good that people would want to schedule a consultation with me outside of the free coaching session, right? I kept it clean. If I was offering free coaching, it really was coaching. So your price doesn't really matter. Honestly, your price does not matter. Now hear me on this. I know a coach who does exactly what I do. In fact, I might say not conceitedly, but I think I might do what she does. Maybe I'm better than what she does. Okay. She charges $30,000 for what she does for six months. And I work with clients for six months. That's multiple times what I charge. Okay. She sells it. And do you know why? Because she thinks she's that good. She thinks it's worth that much money. She's like, Like somebody gives me 30 grand, I help them set up their business. They know how to get clients. They'll know how to make money forever. It's worth every penny, right? There's another coach potentially sells the exact same thing I do for $1,000. Why? Because she thinks it's worth that much money. Only you decide what the value of your product is and what the offer is. And then it's up to you to sell it, okay? So you're in charge of that. You come to the session. You decide how much it's going to be. And by the way, don't come to the session and decide on the session. You decide before the coaching session. You set your price and you get good at selling that price. It takes practice. You got to Believe you're worth it. You've got to be able to present it confidently without hesitation. Your goal is to decide on your price, to decide where you have integrity with pricing, and then to start practicing being a person who sells their coaching for that much. All right, the final reason, number 10, you quit too soon. You guys, there is no overnight success. I am so sorry for the people online, I'm going to keep talking about this, who are misleading you, who have given you the impression that they make a million dollars in a month which there are coaches who make a million in a month but like they just like did this one thing and they got to that point no they did not even if it was somebody who was fortunate enough and blessed enough to do it in the last five years and now they've made a million dollars a month there are people like that but for the most part you guys it takes work and what I really want to tell you is you're not ready for overnight success you're really not okay so you need to learn the skill of being in business the skill of having a business the skill of having clients all of that it your success will not come overnight it's going to take you I think a year in fact I tell people it could take 18 months coaches work with us for six months and if they've never had clients and if they come in and do the work they will have clients before they're done working with us in six months so that's a starting point and typically by year they're in good shape by 18 months, it's like everything is working so well in their business. If I had a crystal ball and I could foresee the future of your business and I said look all you have to do is follow the path we have a framework actually that our clients follow follow the framework do what we tell you to do put yourself out there stay after it don't quit stay committed make offers if I said do all that and I said I know what's going to happen to you in 12 months and I can see the future you're going to have 25 clients yeah that literally could be your case but the thing is most people quit most people quit before they ever even try yeah do not quit I'm telling you what I get in awe over what has happened in my own business it's not because I'm a business coach you could have the same results as me the only reason why I win is I don't quit but I'm in awe at how my business has compounded and how fast yeah it grows slow in the beginning you start with one client then you got 10 clients and 20 clients yeah and then all of a sudden one day you're like wow I'm I have a business bigger than I ever even planned on having, like I ever even thought I was going to have. And now I'm on my way to multiple times more. So don't quit, okay? You should be in business for life. This is your life's work. I mean, I turned 60. I don't have any plan of retiring. We don't quit anytime soon, okay? You keep going. This is a long, long game. I mean, this is your life's work.
